Just got a new Tab from a carrier shop here in Kuwait with some, let's just say, undesirable applications preinstalled which I would like to get rid off. Read all (well most of the posts) but getting nowhere.
Upgraded to new firmware through KIES.
downloaded Z4ROOT and rooted succesfully (or at least that,s what the app is telling).
Tried to copy the nv_data.bin file to my sd card - cannot be done
Tried to open nv_data.bin in HEXEDITOR - no can do
Tried to delete application - nope
So some help is obviously needed here if anyone is kind.
Best regards
You did install busybox, did you?
Which firmware? Post what you are doing on the adb shell. Be specific or we can't help you.
You're right should be more specific.
Well I did not install busybox (no idea what it is for) and
Firmware version is 2.2
Baseband version P1000JXJK2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
Build No FROYO.JPJK2
Hope this clears it.

Busybox gives you most shell commands (including, but not limited to, cp).
Thanks.
Installed BUSYBOX and copied nv_data.bin file to sd card for modification as per How to carrier/SIM unlock the Galaxy Tab topic from 17/11 but the address 0x181469 could not be found.
Also tried to uninstall the preinstalled apps - no success
need z4 unroot it
busybox
root explorer
Z4 unroot, DONE
BUSYBOX installed DONE
ROOT EXPLORER installed DONE
So
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8942669&postcount=94
totaly worked for unlocking the SIM/carrier. Very easy and no problems encountered. Inserted a different SIM and made a call. Perfect. Thank you for all the work that made this possible.
However it still does not let me delete the APPs that came preinstalled with the Tab.
I am guessing this is something to do with the Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1. How can this be undone (another guess is flashing the ROM but i have no idea what it involves so back to the reading and learning)?
If somebody has a simple to follow guide and resolution to this please let me know the thread. Thanks
Have you mounted /system as r/w in Root Explorer?
Regards,
Dave
Dave, to advanced for me. How do i do that?
Just an update.
Managed to successfully flash the tab to the european version using guide from
[HOW-TO] Flash your at&t Tab to make calls + 1900+850 WCDMA - UPDATED
thank you it worked fine and i achieved what i was looking for: no more undesirable apps.
But, i lost the 3g and cannot get it back using the same guide as above.
With my limited knowledge of the whole thing I am guessing that this is to do with the modem.bin file. Will try to download an arabic version of firmware, extract it and try to use the modem file and see if it will work. will post an update just in case anybody is interested,
regards
I found it rather embarassing posting replys to my own thread all the time but I feel it might help somebody so what the hell!!
I finally got my 3G working on the Tab. A silly thing really: APN (Access Point Name) was deleted during flash and by adding and activating the APN i got my 3G restored.
Anyway, thank you guys for all the replies and help. Really good forum with a lot of useful stuff.

Hi,
I have downloaded the MIUI rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969661
[Mar 11 ]HD2 MIUI 1.3.11 SD/MAGLDR ROM (Kernel-AmeriCanAndroid r3.01)
Now I am facing the following issues......
Setup
I am booting this ROM from SD; so when starting it's booting to Win6.5, and I have to launch it from Win6.5.
Issue 1
okay, in Android
- marketplace
- searched for Angry Bird
- hit download, and I can see that Android passed the download link to the "download manager", and download manager quickly remove it from the download - no error message
was wondering if I need to create a folder for them to put the file?
Is it possible to download the "Angry Bird" application on my computer, USB sync it to the phone, and run the application from the phone?
Issue 2
- i registered for beta version of swype
- i download swype, and tried to install it using it's installer
- swype is unable to let me generate a license for it;
===> do I need to set up permission for applications to access my SD storage?
Issue 3
I just discovered that this ROM has links to MIUI Market Place! very similiar to Android marketplace
and this time when I choose to download software from it, it says failed to download (in chinese); I can surf internet and receive emails from gmail though.
Has this got something to do with my cluster size? It's currently at 8kb
PS: I couldn't get any response/support from the development forum, so I guess someone could help me if I were post in the right forum?
I don't know about the market issues, but u can definitely download apps and games from the network ,go to options>application and mark unknown sources so u can install non market apps-games, enable mass storage in android, transfer the files to the sd,access it with astro(any file manager) or any other program u have and just press the file u want and it will ask u if u want to install it.
about the market issues maybe switch to another rom.
after download some apk and installing them into the mobile, and after a few restart/reboot, I can download from market place now.......
I've already tried posting this in the official thread in the WP7 General board but I'm certain it's already been lost in the commotion. So here's the deal:
1) I initially downloaded the PBK file and couldn't run it due to having Adobe Software installed.
2) I managed to discover that rasphone.exe is the program that's supposed to run PBK files and made it the default program for it.
3) When I run the PBK file it tells me the "phonebook is empty."
This means I can't just go in and select the hungarian VPN and go. Would someone be so kind as to go into the properties for the network, and copy down all settings? I would truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
I'm in the same situation...
try right clicking the file and use open remote access or whatever the name is...that fixed it for me
Ahaha, you can manually set up a new vpn using ttu.2.usaip.eu as the server, and the update seems to be working

Hello.
As many of us know GingerDX and other ROMS has issues with Eduroam connections across the world. Fortunately ex-xda? user holgerg123 found the solution to this problem. Thanks mate!
You could read this here.
I've made Clockworkmod scripts to make installation easier.
There's 4 versions (for me works the 1st one)
Version 1
Version 2
Version 3
Version 4
and file for those, who screwed something
Original wpa_supplicant from GingerDX v022
Rapidshare mirror
Installation:
1. Disable wifi, open Root Explorer or similar app, go to system/bin and rename wpa_supplicant to eg. wpa_suplicant.old
2. Download file
3. Put it into sd-card
4. Reboot to CWM
5. Install downloaded update
6. Reboot!
And you should be able to connect to your University's network.
And remember that you could brick your phone as always. You have been warned.

i don't know what is wifi eduroam?what its benefit?
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
It's the type of network used in many universities and high schools across the world. It uses PEAP/MSCHAP2 security and unfortunately GingerDX was not able to connect properly. This fix gives you ability to have free wifi Internet on your university (of course if you are in eduroam's range )
Nice

Damn! I wrote system/app? You're 200% right, this should be system/bin. Thanks buddy!
Eduroam
Great Job! Eduroam now works on GingerDX.
I also used Version 1.
Thanks very much ...
Is it necessary to use CWM?
Not enough if I simple copy the wpasupplicant file to system/bin directory?

You can of course also manually replace the files instead of flashing through CWM!
Just don't forget that the phone has to be rooted, you need to use a File Manager capable of gaining root rights (Root Explorer, Root Browser) to write into /system, you need to adjust the permissions of the file you copied.
it works =)
and i'm not SE Xperia X8 user
i'm HTC Desire user
thank you very much
i'm not found this problem in my university..
n i dont know different beatwen wifi b/g or n
Oh, god! Thank you very much for this fix! I spent at least one or two weeks looking for ROMs that allowed me to connect to Eduroam networks. I found out that MiniCM7 based ROMs worked great, so I started using GingerXperiaRay.
But now, I've flashed GingerDX and I'm so... so... happy!
By the way, this is my feedback:
Version 1: the only one working for me.
Version 2: it didn't seem to connect Eduroam networks. I don't know if it even could connect any random network.
Version 3: I got 'Error' in my Wi-Fi settings.
Version 4: this file seems to be the same than the original one (same MD5 checksum).
I'm using a MSCHAPv2, PEAP, certificate...
I'm glad I was able to help. You could hit thanks if you want
Nice to see, that fix I proposed half year ago on #cyanogenmod was built at last
android 4 + 802.1x?
does this work on android 4.0.3?
with android 2.x.x it worked fine. i could connect to every f* network i wanted.
even the network in the university:
802.1x EAP
PEAP
MSCHAPV2
CA-Cert: not needed (the admin's answer to my question)
User-Cert: no
ID: *correct*
Anon: not needed
PW: *correct*
since i've got android 4 on my SGS2 it doesn't work any more. (a friend of mine has got an iphone - he has not got any problem with that)
i don't want to flash my phone back to android 2
now it's rooted and flashed with RomMIX_byRush_ICS.4.0.3_XXLP4
i've spend hours and hours to find a solution for this problem (google, PocketPc.ch, xda-developers.com, ...) but couldn't.
thank's for help!

Hello all,
Since the release of android 4.x it was impossible to connect to some networks 802.1x PEAP (like EDUROAM).
The French internet provider FREE has recently published a rom for SGS2, which solves this problem.
So, I try to extract the wpa_supplicant binary from this rom and inject it in CM9 on my Galaxy S, and now everything work.
The wpa_supplicant binary file is here https : // docs . google . com / open?id=0B1rR4JYQ9hnGVy13SnZqZGVCYmM (sorry but i can't post an url, because of spam system, delete space), if some people want to try on other device, just copy it in /system/bin/

PS: Sorry for my english...
Hey guys,
I installed the version 1 and at the end of the process, when I turn up the Wi-Fi, it gets me "Error" and i'm not able to use the Wi-Fi.
I also tried the version 4 but the problem persists.
How should I do?
Thanks.

Try other versions. If not, go back to original WiFi supplicant.
In the CMW Recovery, should I click on "Install update from zip" or on "Install zip from SD card" ?
Maybe I do something wrong..
Hello, I have a B5510, and had managed to root and install link2sd to free up some space on my internal memory even though I had reduced the phone's applications to the "basic essential".
I noticed that even by moving apps with link2sd, the free internal space was not increasing and was getting an error with the dalvik-cache. I tried to move the dalvik-cache to the sdext2 partition since that is where link2sd was looking for it, however accidentally removed it. Unfortunately with it I must have removed also the links to the apps on the sd card and was left with only a handful of useless applications.
After trying to find a solution for that, it seemed that the only option I had was to do a factory reset, which I did. Despite having regained access of the google market application, I am unable to log onto the internet / wifi, and register my samsung phone. The phone seems to be continuously on standby at "obtaining ip address...". If I try to set a static ip, it seems like the device is connected to the wifi but it actually isn't, or at least, I can't register it to find out since my only application with access to the internet is google market.
I don't know whether the loss of functionality is due to having removed the dalvik-cache or some samsung related applications like samsung apps. In any, I wish I could find a way to restore my phone to what it was before. I thought that maybe I could flash cyanogenmod but didn't find a version for my phone. However I really don't wish to remove the stock OS and would like to restore it as is. Do you guys have any suggestions, experiences, or any helpful advice? I really don't know what to do. I asked for help to samsung but I don't know whether they'll help since the device is rooted.

My suggestion would be to use Odin to flash your original firmware onto your handset as per this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678568
If you cannot find the correct firmware in that thread (most likely as the files have not been converted it seems...huh!) then post in this thread and ask Doky73 very very nicely to convert the firmware files for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678568
You will need to know what firmware you are currently running - you can probably check yourself on sammobile to see if that is available, once you know the stock for your phone you can search google - it may already be out there converted and ready to go!
Once that is flashed delete everything off the SD card and format and repartition it again then start afresh - good luck! :good:

Hello stokey and thanks for your quick suggestion! I've been looking all over the website trying to understand and apparently the best solution would be to flash the firmware with odin 1.85.
I've found the details of my firmware being the Italy version:
Code:
HIDSWVER B5510XXLF3/B5510ITVLF1/B5510XILE1/B5510XXLF3
ANDROIDVERSION 2.3.6
BASEBANDVERSION B5510XILE1
KERNELVERSION 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #103
BUILDNUMBER GINGERBREAD.XXLF3
and it seems I also found a download from sampro.pl
I'm hoping this goes well because it seems like I've only managed to take the situation from bad to worse so far! If you have any experience with odin, do you believe the phone (wifi especially) should work correctly after flashing?

Ok, I've downloaded a stock firmware corresponding to my original IDs, split it up with Ordinatrix and flashed it with Odin and it worked! It's back as new! Thanks a lot stokey and everyone for your very helpful threads, I thought my phone was good as dead!!
