Install Custom Recovery? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have searched and searched and everything leads to a dead end.
I want to unroot my S4 running stock rooted [email protected] with TWRP and return to stock with stock recovery.
Can't find a tar file that will allow me to do this through ODIN.
Am I missing something?

Search for the stock OS in sammobile.com and you can download the original firmware and flash it via Odin

Go to the development section and look for the thread from random45. It has a fast download for the mk2 tar file.

Here is a link where you can find the tar file to Odin. This will take you to full stock and unrooted.

That link only works if you pay to download though. The file is too big for the free download option.
Thanks, guys. I have come across an issue though. The .tar file seems to cause Odin to crash... Any ideas?

Had the same problem, you are probably on MJA (eg. 4.3) and you can't Odin back to 4.2.2 (thats what samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SPH-L720 firmware links are); rwilco12 has the stock MJA firmware that you can flash over modem to get back to stock.
Rwilco stock MJA: rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung%20Galaxy%20S4%20%28SPH-L720%29/Stock%20ROMs/MJA/Original%20TAR
So just flash with Odin PC and the mja tar too fully revert back to stock? I'm currently running cm10.2 mja

Can't boot into recovery since 4.3 update- Need link to stock recovery .tar

Hey gang,
Rogers user here.
I tried to root using cf's autoroot and after ODIN'ing 4.3, now I can't get into recovery. I reflashed 4.3 a few times hoping that would do it but I have had no luck.
Does anyone have a link to the twrp stock recovery .tar? A .zip won't work for obvious reasons. I am using ODIN.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also, has anyone had any luck rooting the stock 4.3? The forums are packed with posts featuring these keywords and I've spent a good deal of time reading posts that don't help. Please point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
Not sure what you're looking for. Twrp is not the stock recovery and there is no tar of it afaik. There's a .img but that's not going to do you any good. The stock recovery should come along with odining the stock firmware.
fm
Clemmie.. Did u just wipe and reflash 4.3 using Odin? U started all over when u did that or did u keep ur apps and settings. I understand u lost root and custom recovery... I am on 4.2.2 and looking to update to 4.3 without wiping and maintaining root too...

MJA stock unrooted rom anyone?

Alright, bit of a noob here in regards to the new mk2 update. I'm trying to get this done and keep running into brick walls.
Problem: Have to flash stock recovery and unroot my s4 to get the OTA or sideloaded mk2 update. Have no stock rom with which to flash. Sammobile doesn't have the firmware available for download to reflash stock everything on my phone.
1) Do any of you most awesome people have a link to a downloadable stock unrooted mja ROM that I can flash on this phone to restore stock recovery?
2) Is there a way to restore the stock recovery without flashing the stock rom?
I searched and couldn't find an unrooted ROM. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

No problem!
Download the ROM here. Thanks to RWilco12 for housing it even when Sammobile took it down.
http://rwilco12.com/downloads.php?d...axy S4 (SPH-L720)/Stock ROMs/MJA/Original TAR
I would download and use Odin 3.09 as well.
Good luck!

Sounds like you are not completely stock, the error shows it found modded files in your system partition. Odin the full mk2 tar file first and try again.

I was hoping to avoid doing the full flash again. I have seen some threads of some Nexus 7 members flashing the required files they were so kindly provided so they can move forward to the 4.4.2 update similar to my situation. If I can't then I guess I will have to suck it up and erase her info and start over.

You don't have to erase her info, just flash the mk2 tar file and then install the update. No data wipe required.

Wait dumb question... .. . I take it that the flash won't erase the info due to being an official rom? I mean the one from random45. This has slipped my mind.......

Correct, the tar will not wipe data. Everything will be in tact from random45's download.

Ah okay..... and thanks for the confirmation. I will flash and see.
Just wanted to update, flashing the Rom fixed the problem. Thanks again cruise350. The wife is now rocking KitKat on her S4.

This forum is for the Sprint Galaxy S4, and it seems you have the T-Mobile device. Here's a link to the tmobile forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile
MK2 is the version number that is specific to Sprint. T-Mobile may have the same number or not. But all you need to do is download the .tar file for the latest 4.3 ROM that is available for your phone, put the phone in download mode, and flash via the ODIN utility that you can download as well. This is not a complete guide, so see the relevant threads in the TM forum. Alternatively, there may be a T-Mobile .tar for 4.4.2 that you can ODIN directly. It is up to you to see if it wipes data or not. The one for Sprint does.

[Q] *** Cant Find Info On MDL - Return To Stock Rooted ?!?

Currently, im rooted and running a custom rom and recovery on my ATT S4 with MDL. I'd like to return to stock rooted with the option to flash custom roms in the future. I know there have been a lot of changes recently with the various versions so I would also like to update to the safest and latest firmware possible(still be able to flash custom recovery and rom if I wanted to in the future).
So... What would be the best method to go about returning to an updated stock rooted state with the ability to flash roms and recoveries in the future?
I've been searching all morning but can't find much info on working with MDL. Can anyone point me in the direction or offer any assistance?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance :good:
Go to sammobile.com for the mdl firmware. You'll download a zip, extract the .tar.md5 file from it and flash that in Odin. After you do that the phone will want to update to the newest firmware so look for the files to delete or flash a custom rom. It'll also wrote the device so backup first

Great. Thanks a bunch but I will no longer be rooted after flashing stock through ODIN correct? Should I use CASUAL from there to regain root and a custom recovery? Also, how would I update to a newer firmware after that? One that is "safe" or least problematic?

You will lose root. CASUAL will still work and you'll still be able to use twrp or cwm. For newer firmware you're going to want to flash a custom rom based 4.4.4. You don't want to update your firmware as you won't be able to use twrp or cwm any more
