Just as title states, I always spend a lot of time after restoring apps and data from flashing a new ROM getting my screen and layout and folders and widgets as they were prior to flashing a new ROM.
Is there a way to restore all this quickly?
NO
The problem you're having is when you install a different ROM you usually "Wipe" everything. If you don't wipe /data then everything you have is still there. However you will have problems going from one custom ROM to another, as each developer has made some tweaks to the system packages.
Generally speaking, if you are running a "Stock Odexed" ROM you could possibly dirty flash a "Custom Odexed" ROM.
Same goes for Deodexed to Deodexed. You will have problems if you try to cross dirty flash a ROM.
So the simple answer to your question is NO there is no easy way, even if you backed up your Applications using a tool like Titanium Back Up.
If you are just updating the same ROM, the developer will say to either Clean Flash (wipe everything) or Dirty Flash (IMO still wipe cache and dalvik). If you can dirty flash everything will still be just as you set it up.
Got everything restored already, I'll have to just suck it up then I guess.
Just makes me wonder how flashaholics do it.

My basic question is can I repeatedly reflash the same ROM to my Epic without wiping data between flashes?
I flashed a ROM and then manually flashed a number of add-ons and optional installs from other ROMs. My phone is now in a state that I don't like. I thought I did a nandroid backup after the initial ROM flash, but I didn't. I'd like to just reflash the same ROM that I already have on my phone, hopefully just wiping cache + dalvik first. I'd rather not wipe data and go through all that again if I don't have to. Is this safe to do?
Yes its safe. Only reason they say to wipe is going from one rom to other rom u may get some probs.

hello I have a question that may seem dum but through trial and error many times I realized asking the questions before actually doing stuff when it comes to android mods is best anyways I just flashed a rom code name Sammy to get a touch wiz experience and before I did that I did a nandroid backup through twrp recovery and I really want to go back to what I had before the rom or even try a different one like smooth rom but I wasn't sure if I could just restore from my back up or if I need to flash something differently all together to start over thanks for your help

Hi, johnfred1987...
No, there's nothing you have flash before you start over.
Prior to a Nandroid restore in TWRP, I prefer to wipe Dalvik Cache, Cache, Data and System - although be careful with wiping System; ensure you have either a flashable ROM .zip or a Nandroid backup on Internal Storage first.
If you wipe System without either one of these to fall back on, your Nexus 7 will have no bootable OS; just TWRP and the Bootloader. Although not an insurmountable situation, its a pain in the backside to recover from.
You only really need to wipe System if you're flashing a new ROM... although if you're upgrading a given ROM from, say, version v1.0 to v1.1, you can generally (unless otherwise specified by the developer), 'dirty flash' it over the top (although I still like to clear Dalvik and Cache).
Generally, though, all you need to do is 'Swipe to Factory Reset'... But whatever you do, don't touch the FORMAT DATA button, as this will wipe your Internal Storage, including any Nandroids, ROM .zip flashables, Titanium backups and whatever else you have stored on the Nexus.
Good luck.

Hello all, pretty new to flashing, did a decent amount of reading on it but also am a bit skeptical about some things.
So far I have managed to root, install TWRP, and flashed the OptimusDE Rom. Like it, been using it a couple days.
My question is regarding trying a different ROM. I have done a back up, both of my original setup as well as the DE rom I have tweaked a bit and been using. Figured out how to back up, restore etc.
I want to flash a different rom to try out, however a bit nervous about what data to wipe prior to install via TWRP.
I believe from what I have read I should wipe everything except internal storage, however I would prefer to ask here before deleting all files and needing to learn about sideload or USB loading.. My back ups are in my TWRP folder, and my roms in the Download folder. (Also backed up to PC)
Also following the install do I wipe cache before reboot?
Hello everyone. What if I update cm12.1 by reverting to stock rom and flashing newer cm12.1 build? Would it make device and install cleaner? Or it is unnecesary and reverting back to stock is as clean as wiping everything? I feel kinda dirty while flashing cm12.1 updates by nikolaa one on top of another.
Then go wash your self.
It won't be any cleaner. Every time you install the rom you wipe needed partitions. When you install kernel you didn't need to wipe anything. From time to time (once in 3~6 months) even staying on same Android version it's recommend to wipe & apps (data partition).
Thanks for your answer
I have the batman rom installed on my g95ff now since my stock rom got boot looped when i tried to flash a boot logo that was a size too big. When that happened i flashed the stock firmware with odin aswell as stock recovery and it let me clear my cache/factory reset my phone to fix it.Sadly i lost my bootlogo and boot animation collection i had stored but i had most of my important apps backed up with titanium,so to make up for the lost data i rerooted with twrp, installed the batman rom and restored my apps back. The rom is really neat since i can customize more ui things such as the status bar aswell as my nav bar color which couldnt be done on the stock rom.So now that im familiar with installing roms, would i be able to try other ones simply by reflashing the stock firmware over the batman rom and reinstalling twrp?
So you're asking how you can try other custom ROMs?
You don't need to flash the stock ROM and flash TWRP every time you want to try a new custom ROM. It's MUCH easier than that.
You just need to backup your apps as normal with Titanium Backup, then boot into TWRP. From the Wipe menu, wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik-cache.
Then just flash the new ROM zip file as normal in TWRP, and you're done.

So as long as you wipe your phone you can install custom roms over anough anoughter custom rom.Sounds simple enough then.

Yep, the "System" partition is where the ROM is installed. When you wipe that, you're essentially wiping the ROM from your phone.
