Hello, hope I'm posting in the right area?
I would like to start by extending my sincere appreciation to the OmniROM team for the wonderful work they have done and continue to do on this ROM. I have been using it for a month and don't see myself moving back to stock Samsung GT-I9300 ROM anytime soon.
I have been updating it every night using the built-in updater and have not had any major issues so far. Currently I am on the version for 20140211, i.e., for last night.
Just one quick query, I keep loosing all the home screen icons after the update, i.e., the ones right at the bottom are all still there , however any icons above them disappear after the update completes. This is the second or third time this has happened, so can not tell if it is an issue with the way the update process takes place or have I missed something in the way I set the icons up. Attached is a screenshot of the home screen after the icons have disappeared as well as the About phone page.
Thanking you in advance.

So, I have been using MIUI V4 for a few days now and I LOVE IT! I wanted to share a tip in the MIUI V4 tip thread...but couldn't find one. There's one for the older version of MIUI (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498809) written by omair2005 but nothing specifically for V4.
I'd like to thank Omair2005 for the original post. It very informative and even if you are on V4, you need to read it...you need to thank him for it!
Many of the tips on Omair2005's post will work with V4 and I will be pulling those into this post as time allows, but until then, I'd like to share some of my tips. Some of these are just my observations and may not be 100% accurate or the best way to do something. If anyone has any recommendations or corrections, please let me know and I will update them
For me, one of the best/worst things about MIUI was ALL the application icons on the home screen. With the initial flash, there are a few screens with icons for all my apps showing. I loved it.
Once I restored all my apps it was a different story. I had 8 screens full of icons...all over the place with no logical order.
I started organizing them into folders...but then I couldn't remember which folder had what and I truly missed my App Drawer. While trying to organize one of my folders, I mistakenly dropped it on to the dock...then I realized.......
I could put a folder on the dock...call it Applications (or whatever) and put everything I didn't want on the home screens in there...then sort them in the folder and viola, I have my App Drawer back.
There are a few limitations such as no full screen view of apps or the ability to sort the folder...but maybe in the future, someone will figure it out.
Miss the scrolling wallpaper - go to Menu -> Launcher Settings and select 'High quality graphics'.
SMS gibberish is still happening for me with the stock Messaging app. I use a 3rd party app like Handcent or GoSMS and they have an option to split large messages into multiple messages. This seems to work for me.
WiFi access to SD card
Accessing the SD card through USB is not functioning. You can, however, gain access to your SD card through WiF: enter “File Explorer” on the desktop, select the "FTP" tab. Hit start the service, and then you will get an address. Enter the given address on the computer, then you may copy files without using a data cable!
Long press on the icon in Toggles to launch the settings for that icon.
When you pull down the notification bar, you will see the Toggle settings for plenty of options (such as WIFI, volume, backlight etc). Long press on any icon in the Toggle mode will launch the setting for that icon.
Built-in Screen Capture function
One of the lacking feature in Android is the lack of a built-in screen capture feature (like in iPhone). Not anymore. With MIUI, you can press the “Menu” key and “Volume Down” key at the same time to capture a screenshot. The printed image is saved in the “MIUI: directory in the sd card.
Home Screen previews
In previous versions of MIUI, hitting the home button while on the home screen would bring up the home screen previews. This no longer works. In V4, from any screen, hit Menu, Preview.
Move home screen icon easily
Hold down an icon by one hand to enter Edit Mode, and then use the other hand to slide the screen to move the icon to the target screen.
Launch Music Player in lockscreen
In the lockscreen, double tap the time zone to launch the Music Player. (The Music Player is hidden by default, unless a song is playing)
Running Apps List: Long press on the Home button and it will bring you to your running apps list. Swipe the an app either left or right to close them one at a time, or click the “Broom” icon at the bottom left to close all listed apps and clear the extra processes in memory. The bar across the top will inform you of the used memory and current available memory.
Note: System processes will not be cleared so as to ensure the normal running of the system. The Android icon on the bottom right will bring you to the running services portal in settings.
Percentage Battery Indicator Style: To change the battery icon to a percentage, slide down your notification bar, select the 'Toggles' tab and then hit the 3 dots in the top right. From there, you can change the status bar settings. One of those settings being Battery indicator style.
Note: It does not show a percentage while charging...Only when unplugged and discharging.
Add a favorite in the messaging app: In the new messaging app, there are three tabs on the top: "Messaging | Favorites | Recommended" If you go into Favorites, there is nothing in there and there really isn't any method for adding one. I found that if I go to a message that I had already sent...long press the message bubble and Lock it, it shows in the Favorites.

Anyone reading these? I feel like I am talking in an empty room.
This is good, but until its not alpha these options and settings may change. Also you should mention that theme support is not fully functional cause of upstream issues.

also any bugs present in cm9 will be in miui as well (ex: video tearing)
tomorrow's MIUI release should have a lot of upstream fixes and if cm9 alpha 6 comes out sooner than later, we might have an awesome miui v4 build!
I have been using this rom since it was released and so far, for me, it has been incredible. I tried the last version of MIUI and really gave it a chance(4 days.....like an eternity!)...but for some reason or another, I couldn't get myself to 'love' it.
With this version, I notice less issues with the video, less issues with force closes and overall, a more 'flashy' experience!
On the down site, I do notice that it gets HOT sometimes...and that usually means my battery is going to be killed. I have noticed at times that the drop is 10-12% per hour......
But I digress....let's keep the thread focused on Tips/Tricks for the rom!
Thanks for your feedback.

Going to update to the new build if it is out

Hi there! My name is Ben and im owning this nexus 4 phone for a month more or less. Since I bought it this forum has been an awesome place to look for answers as my last phone ran android 2.1. A genius friend of mine installed the paranoid android ROM on my phone for me and I'm very happy with all the tweaks. One thing that keeps bothering me though is that ever since I got the phone, when I try to set a new wallpaper, despite the nice sketch of how it's going to look horizontally an vertically on the phone's screen, it crops only the left side of the picture as a wallpaper, it comes out pixelated and swiping home screens doesn't scroll the wallpaper image. I've tried looking it up online, tried to mess with the phone settings, PA settings, launcher settings, but I just couldn't find a way to solve this. Ive tried the image 2 wallpaper app but it still doesn't put the wallpaper the way I set it and just crops only the left side, just less pixelated. I assume this isn't normal? as I said the problem existed even before the PA ROM was installed and that only confuses me more. Thanks in advance if you can help me! B
p.s. I'm running stock PA launcher, only used it to reduce the amount of home screen pages (now i have 3)
jellybean 4.3 with PA 3.99.

Hello everybody,
Kinda new to this site, but not new to android. There is one question that has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now. I did search the Galaxy Note 3 forums but did not find an answer to my question.
So here's the situation. A couple of weeks ago I updated my N9005 to the unbranded Polish version of android lollipop, seeing as my country had not yet received the update.
I love the firmware, but there is one aspect of it that is, at times, quite bothersome. I am talking about the interruptions that pop up in the top of the screen as a white bar. I am running the stock firmware and it is rooted, and my problem is that these interruptions, in my opinion, take far too long to disappear.
The actual question I have is if there is a way, either through the settings menu or through editing some system files, to change the length of time these interruptions remain on screen? I'd love for them to disappear, like, twice as fast. I do not want to dismiss them either, because that removes the actual notification from the pull-down menu.
Can anyone on here help me? Thanks in advance.

What type of interruptions?

Haven't come across anything like this elsewhere. Been scouring the interwebs for solutions but to no avail. So, I decided to make another XDA account since there's always an error here in XDA when requesting for a new password, thus can't log back into my old XDA account.
So, anyone knows a solution to my problem? Thanks in advance!
NB: can't post outside links unless already got 10+ post here in XDA so no screenshots uploaded
Need more information. I've not got my S7 Edge yet but I used one in the shop and the status bar is 100% transparent, so if your new device has lost it's transparency, you must have installed something or done something to it. Have you installed a new launcher that doesn't support transparent status bar for example?
Just the Liquid Cloud live wallpaper which I have been using with my S6E+ flawlessly
That will be it then. It's probably not compatible with Marshmallow or the version of TW the S7 comes with. If you remove it or change to another wallpaper the status bar will almost certainly return to full transparency. Then see if there is an update to the wallpaper.
For the benefit of the doubt, reverted to its static wallpaper but still no changes
Reboot. Then, if no change, uninstall the live wallpaper and reboot again.
Haist! Did everything you mentioned. Still there! This is driving me nuts!
Appreciate the quick response. Think I will just commission my S6E+ back until someone got this sorted out!
Maybe, wipe cache partition? Just like what I did back then when my Samsung Pay was acting up weird which solved it
Clear launcher data and, if that doesn't work, remove the apps you have installed one by one. It's bound to be one of them.
If all else fails I presume you haven't done much on the phone yet so a factory reset is always an option. Power off, then power on with volume up and the power button to go into stock recovery. Select factory reset. You will lose everything on the phone though. I also suggest you remove any memory card just in case.
Just use nova launcher

Could it have something to do with the font change ?? you are clearly not using the default one
Clean cache and force close system ui, reboot and it should fix it!
The Status Bar turns gray when you turn on Power Saving. Turn off Power Saving and it should return to being transparent.
Power Saving ON:
Power Saving OFF:
Also, don't force close any of your UI or system elements unless you plan on rebooting. Your device will be unstable until you reboot.
Well, you've just saved me a lot of trouble! Thanks! Didn't know S7E's TW would be giving me such pain. Didn't encounter such thing on my S6E+.
Thank you for all your thoughts, guys!
Glad it's all sorted out now, bruh!
That gray status bar was really starting to p*ss me off! I used to keep my phone on power save mode all the time with Lollipop and never had that issue. Wtf Marshmallow?!

Do you have power saving turned on? I noticed on mine when its enabled the status bar looses its transparency and goes grey.
Turn off the Power saving Mode and It Goes
Xposed module Flat Style Colored bars
Xposed module, "Flat Style Colored bars" solves the problem while power saving is on.
I tried it on my note 4 and it worked. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on other phones...
Hi all,
after the system update version WW_13.20.10.79_20161009 , pushing recent apps button, the view of open apps wasn't as usual like a group of 3D tabs with a wonderful
effect in scrolling among them. but as a flat view. In other words every app appears below the previous, not in 3D style view as usual.
Anyone can help me to understand if this is right after the update, or it 's a misconfiguration of my update or a particular settings that I need to apply ?
Thank you in advance
Roberto
Got the same behavior and found no settings for that. And after a day, I found it OK.
And the notification on expanded status bar sometimes become 3d like recent too
Bought my phone(ZE552KL) 3 days ago(Canada) and today installed a new update called MMB29P.WW_Phone-13.20.10.131-20161028 So while I can't compare since the first I did when I got the phone in install all updates, the background apps list does look VERY 2D and flat like you said. And honestly I'm having a hard time seeing if an app is in the background or in the foreground.
Still ****ing love this phone tho!
