Hi,
I got trouble with my nexus 4 power button and the phone is turned off right now.
Is there anyway to turn it on without pressing the power button??

there are couple of options assuming you are rooted and with custom ROM
1. With help of volume wake up - with almost all custom roms
2. Double tap/swipe to wake up - There is app and few kernel supports that
3. if you using flip phone cover - use some app using proximity sensor

Hi. I have a solution for you. Connect your nexus to your PC with the data cable and hold down the volume down button as you plug it in. This will get you into the bootloader. Next get the fastboot drivers for your phone and open a command prompt where the drivers are located. If you are running windows, navigate windows explorer to where the fastboot file is located and hold shift + right click. Run the following commands:
fastboot devices
Verify that you see a device listed so you know that your phone has been detected. If successful, run this command:
fastboot reboot
This should get your phone to restart itself and successfully boot. I hope that helps. Cheers.

Hi,
after unlocking and rooting my Nexus 4 I flashed the franco-kernel. I did these steps with the ToolKit. But now when I start my phone I can press the power button once and it offers me to shut it down. After that there is no reaction when pressing the power button. I tried to reset the Nexus but I still get the same error. Can anyone help? Thanks!
EDIT: My nexus just turned off the screen and I was able to reactive it by pushing the powerbutton. What works all the time is shutting down the phone by long pressing.
From your initial post it sounds like it might be sticking..

I don't think that it's hardware related. It might be a software issue. Sometimes the screen stays on for ever unless I open an app and close it again. It seems the phone doesn't know what to do when the button is pressed.
EDIT: When connected to PC I can use the button only to power off the phone. I can't wake it...weird
I have Nexus 7 32GB Wifi. I have rooted it last week, but hasn't installed any custom recovery or ROM. The one problem i have noticed after that is , sometimes i have to press power button twice to wake up the tablet, only then my unlock screen comes up. I tried waiting few seconds after pressing power button once, but the screen will not turn on, i had to press power button second time. Any idea?
Thanks

Was trying to restart wifes Nexus 4, only option when holding power key down is to power off. Is there any other way?
Also, how do you screen shot on it?

Keep holding the power button. It will restart after a few seconds.
edit: to take a screen shot of "hold power + volume down"

I don't think holding down the power button is the greatest suggestion if you want to just reboot the device.
If you hold down the power button, what that does is it forces the device to shut down. Keep it held and your device will power back on. That would seem like a reboot. But it's the equivalent of pulling the power form your PC to shutdown and then booting it up again. It's simply not the proper way to shutdown or reboot.
Natively, there's no way to easily reboot your device. Most custom ROMs have a reboot option in the power menu. If you don't want to flash custom ROMs, there are apps that let you reboot. Just search "reboot" in Google Play.
You can also use the reboot command in terminal emulator if the phone is rooted.... and you just made me reboot my phone.
First question: Not sure if it's the phone or the software but when I shutdown my phone and try to turn it back on by holding the volume button and the power button, it doesn't work. But as soon as release the power button, it decides to turn on. Can someone help me with this?
Second question: Does my phone need to be rooted to get Android 4.1.1?
NOTE* Currently on Android 2.3
1) Keep trying, you shouldn't have to release a button to turn it on. Are you holding the right buttons? Its down+power
2)Yes

First Volume down, then the power button, it should be on within 3 seconds.
Do you have ADB enabled? Plug your phone into your computer, if your computer recognizes it via ADB, come back
Help!

I would try pushing recovery img through adb. See if that solves the problem.

I think you can get to Download mode by holding both volume keys simultaneously, then plugging a usb cable. Can't verify that right now but maybe then you can use adb or fastboot to reboot in normal mode (adb reboot or fastboot reboot)
