I have a Google Nexus 4......I had a problem with my Provider and it's phone service, I called them to request help, she said to remove the SIM Card and replace it..........here is where it gets STUPID, it has been sometime since I installed it, I forgot where it was, got real confused under pressure of being on the phone etc.....remembered the "little special tool", she says put it in the little hole and the tray will slide out, WELL, I found this little hole, looked to b made for it, but it was to the right of the charger plug in.......I poked it in there several times.....of course NOTHING Happened.............after I hung up from tech support, I then found the the actual SIM Tray and the REAL "hole" I should have put that tool into........so I did.....then reinserted the SIM Card as she said to.........I press ON button, or not, I am getting "unending" 4 dot color display that it runs when it is like loading a OS or something............BUT...........it will NOT stop!!! I am guessing I FUBARRED the OS or something by putting that tool into the hold on the bottom.
PLEASE, if you can, tell me what I've done and what I need to do to restore my Nexus 4 to a "normal" life!
THANKS, michael

Hi Michael
Where exactly did you stick the pin in the first place? Did you stick it in a hole next to the usb /charging port. That is the microphone which means you might have damaged it.
Anyway, to return to normal os use this guide it's foolproof

Good luck

Spend probably 2 hours with Google Tech Support on this yesterday...........he/they could NOT solve.......and it would NOT do a Factory Wipe and Reset......it's bricked for some unknown reason, he has sent me an RMA etc.......and they will replace it with a "
refurb". RATS! Better than zilch though!
Could you get into recovery or fastboot at all?

He walked me thru all the steps and YES, we'd get the options to choose these choices and we did......BUT.....it would not or could not carry
out the actions at all..........it's a BRICK! NADA! Received RMA Authorization and await a Factory REFURB replacement at this time.
Sure ODD, makes me wonder how many of these N 4s have just DIED like this? Mine has hardly ever even left the house....never, ever
abused in any way.

Hey,
I tried to upgrade my xda's firmware earlier but something went badly wrong. It got stuck on the "Upgrading. This will take approximately 5 minutes" screen, on 0%. I tried doing the upgrade again, but now my computer can't establish a connection with the device, via USB I might add.
If I hold down the power button whilst I push the reset button, it takes me to the colourful, yet useless, "Wallaby Bootloader" screen.
Is it possible for me to recover my xda? If so how?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Andy.
^ Bump (original post was 4 years ago!).
I just found the xda in a drawer and decided to try and revive it. I plugged it in, ActiveSync tries to connect, the phone makes a chiming noise, but it can't actually establish a connection (since the firmware is toasted), therefore the Programme A ROM utility won't work.
Is there any way I can recover this device without needing a special serial cable? Would it be possible to boot from an SD card, even without a functioning firmware? Is there anything else I could try?
Quick update: I picked up an SD card this morning and booted from that, managed to reflash the ROM courtesy of the Rom Kitchen.
Only bad thing.. I snapped off the plastic cover from the SIM card slot, which unbeknown to me holds down a pin that controls the device's power - so I now need to tape it down.. honestly if it's not one thing it's another!
plaggypig: (if you ever read this) just wanted you to know I found the 4 year bump hilarious. I'm glad you salvaged your machine, sad about the cover with hidden switch! I always lusted after an xda but couldn't afford it back then. Am now the proud owner of a Topaz (TD2).
ok so i got a big problem my mogul is stuck at the supposed ''bootloader''.
i tried running a couple of diffrent things to try and fix it becuase i read somewhere that the phone is ''bricked'' but i dont know
my screen has red, blue, green and a white bar
in the red bar it says
TITA100
SPL-2.07.0000
CPLD-9
this has been f'd up for 4 days now,and neither htc or sprint knows whats wrong
and also my mogul wont connect via usb (but my razr will so cord and computer are both alright)
it happened while i was listening to audio manager, the sound cut out and wouldnt work so i tried to reset upon reseting i got here
i have tried to hard reset and the phone just goes back to the same spot
i have also tried renaming the ruu_signed.nbh (from the sprint official rom) to TITAIMG.nbh and it installs successfully but still goes to bootloader (even tried the ollie unlocker or whatever)
PLEASE HELP ME OUT GUYS!!!
have you tried just installing a new rom?
yes it installs successfully (when i load it from phone, not from my computer) but then it still goes straight to bootloader
wait, you were installing a rom from the storage card? and if so i would probably trying installing from an actual computer and see what happens

did you not read my original post??
i said my mogul wont connect detect the usb for some reason, and it only did it after it went into the bootloader mode
Silly question, but have you tried pulling the battery? How about the exit bootloader program? I have never used the exitbl program, but there are instructions on how to do it around here somewhere...
TRY THIS
so i fixed the phone myself messing around with it
(no thanks to you so called ''pros'')
but still my charger/usb port wont work and my battery has 6% left lol
im gonna call htc right now and see what to do
So, care to explain what you did to "fix" it so when people search for this problem they might get an answer instead of posting a common question in a thread?
i pressed the camera camera by accident when i was pressing reset and it took me to the htc screen where its shows your radio version and rom version and everything.
it said ''no radio'',so i pulled the battery and put my memory card with the newest sprint rom (the file i used from the sprint rom was the RUU_signed.nbh,i named it to TITAMG.nbh)then i manually put the phone back into booloader by pressing power and camera key at the same time.
the rom loaded up and installed, then when it was finished i pulled the battery.
to turn the phone on i pressed the camera button, then the reset button both at the same time.then the phone loaded up and went through all the ''welcome to windows mobile'' garbage. there you go,thats exactly what i did.
but now my charger port wont work

I did see some threads on a different site I think about the USB port having some issues with the pins getting pushed back up into the back of the port and not making a connection any more. This kind of sounds like your problem as you said that your computer doesn't recognize the phone either. Some people were able to straighten the pins back down and use it again, some the pins broke so good luck if this is the case.

ya there was one pin pushed down and i actually thought at first when i looked in the charger then in the phones mini usb port. that the pin was broken off but it was just smashed down
so now i have my phone back (besides this cheap a$$ lg)

SORRY
lol
Hey I was planning on jumping over to a hero rom and it said that it needed the SPL 1.33.2005 and since I had 2003 I thought I should upgrade. So i downloaded the file and named it update.zip and after a reboot the phone would not turn on anymore. Charging it would leave it with the orange led at the top, and holding the power button would make it a red light flash and power + some other button would make it blue but none would start the phone.
Dilemmas
1. Placed sim card into old Motorola Rizr and phone would be on loop for start up screen
2. Phone came with a NEW sim card which I never used so I placed that in the old phone and it would say "insert sim card" So I guess i need to do something for it to work?
3. Battery was replaced by employee when I went in yesterday morning.
4. I am not an authorized user on the account (I'm the son) so I wasn't able to order a new phone to be shipped to me. I am planning on going in a couple of hours if a solution does not come up.
They said to get authorized user in and ask to get a replacement sent home but did this void my warranty? What should I do?
I downloaded the "SPL" from here. I chose the engineering one. Maybe I did the process wrong or something, I have no idea. This is what I deserve I guess.
Lastly, can I get the phone replaced directly from a store instead of having it shipped to me?
sounds like a brick to me, I'm sure you can get a warranty replacement. when you or the account owner call tmo and complain don't mention rooting or updates.
Thanks for the quick response. Is there any way that they would know what happened to the phone when I send it in? What i'm mainly worried about are my contacts. I tried to put my contacts from my sim onto my old phone but the phone wouldn't start. I know the contacts are on the old phone though but the phone won't let me do anything with it unless there is a sim card in there and mine isn't working. Can my new sim card that came with phone work on the old Motorola RIZR? Do I need to activate the sim card?
if you logged into your google acct on your phone it sync's all your contacts, calendar things like that so if you did log into a google acct when you started the phone just goto gmail.com log in and hit contacts on the left
also they can figure out what you were trying to do and thats why they tell you when you order your replacement "if your warrenty is void (which it is) they can charge you a $399 restocking fee"
remember they arnt in the business of giving out free stuff but good luck :/
but if you have INSURANCE where you pay every month you can go this route... smash your phone so no one will be able to tell what you did.. pay the $50/$100 deductible... and get a new one then you dont have to chance the $399 but its up to you
That is what I assumed ^^
I called them earlier thinking it would be replaced but according to my insurance, they only cover theft and physical damage and I must pay the deductible of $130 (wtf, that is higher than i thought) and for actual damage to phone (no physical or water damage) like unresponsive, won't turn on, etc. has to be done through t-mobile.
So now I know that my previous rom on there was the cyanogen something so does that void my warranty? What should I do to the phone that will not let them know what happened?

you could try to fast boot the mytouch 3g boot image using these instructions here(taken from:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133)
"Original T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Splash Image (Thanks Haykuro)
Download it here
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 splash.nb"
You would this using fast boot via your pc. Then you could send that sucker back, maybe. I hope this helps and I'm so sorry to hear about your phone.

I was trying this method but it looks like I need to start the phone to find out some info so I can make the gold card ( someone told me to try to fastboot it via the pc so I can at least get to that screen where i can install the update.zip so i can put in a rom)

you should be able to add insurance b4 the 14th day! if they wont let you...
call them today, say your phone wont power up, fake your way along with them in trouble shooting, then when they say send it back, touch the battery contacts under the battery (on the phone not battery) to a higher voltage source (ex: lattern battery) you should hear a pop, and the phone will not boot, and you are good! send it back and they will send you a new 1 tada you winz.

I'm coming from another website where sarcasm runs rampant, I'm not sure if this is sarcasm... hahaha.
So should I fry it?
any recommended easy ways that you guys suggest? I don't really have a "lattern lamp" or a lantern lamp which I'm assuming it is. Without killing myself.
you could try a 9 volt battery or just tape some wires to a car battery would be better. this is totally up to you, this is so they won't see that you been "modding"
if you wanna get creative, see if you can do it through the charger port so you can say you left it charging over night and it was very hot to the touch in the morning. you went to turn on the phone and it was unresponsive. that's been known to happen with phones once in a while.
I got it, take a usb, plug the small side in the phone, pull the large end off, shove the exposed wires in a wall outlet, watch it squirm.

LOL that is hilarious. Won't that also fry my charger?
Most likely I'm going to try the car battery + wire to the metal contact. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I should be getting my phone next week and I'll be returning the defective one promptly after. Hopefully I'll still have the one touch root. I heard that t-mobile has caught on to that and have revised the newer phones to not allow that.

yea It probly will fry the wire too, m I wouldn't use the htc usb but an extra cheapo standard to mini. I got like ten of them laying around the house here. lol I wouldn't be surprised if the phone melted or caught fire if you tried running 120. volts through it.
let us know how it goes.
ok so basically i installed a custom rom, great.. not really.
it wouldn't connect to a network, my usb failed and countless other things were missing.
fine and dandy, rom manager asked me to do a backup of my original rom so i'll just load that... file unloadable.
great.
Miraculously i managed to get a new rom on my sd card and installed it.
got stuck at bootscreen then loaded in to a black screen that only showed the notification bar.
by now i've gotten pretty flustered and figure a battery pull should re set everything and let it load up fine (after all i'm a previous bb user lol)
but no
no, now my phone won't even power on.. even when i plug it into the wall to charge the screen stays black.
holding any button combination doesn't work..
its literally a brick.
is there any way to fix this?
so far all i've found are fixes for "soft bricks"
sounds like i'm a little past that stage...
Ok, take out the battery, sim, and sd card from your phone. Now with the battery out, plug the phone into the usb and connect to pc. Now, while holding down the volume up/down at the same time, but NOT the power button, put in the battery. And there you should have download mode, odin away.
Good luck.

well i had just bought it that day so it was covered under warranty.
i took it back and told them the upgrade to 2.2 did it.
they gave me a new one no questions,
it also helps that i work for them and am their tech guy so they would have given me the phone to try to fix had it been a customer lol.

So, as I cant leave things alone.....come on, who can right?.
Verizon Tab....
Im a Droid X kinda guy, we dont have Kernals (thanks Motorola ) so sometimes this stuff gets confusing, so many options right....
Flashed the VZW Kernal after a few attempts, worked, started messing with Roms, ok cool. Started backing up using CWM, ok cool.
Here is where **** goes wrong....
Started tweaking rom, went to reboot, typical boot loop, no biggie, Odin and Heimdall are my best friends, infact at this point I think my 4 year old has seen me use them enough that she can do it, lol.
decided to nuke and repave, but the usual factory files failed halfway through, wtf?, so I got the Phone---!---PC icon, whoops.....
Did some heavy ready/searching, seems there is not to much out there for detailed info on this.
Found a few posts scattered, one was a system dump, and the person said he flashed everything to repair, so I decided to follow instructions, big giant huge EFF-UP !!
What I know now, after all is said and done......
I flashed the bootloader.
Well, now I know.
So, it happens that VZ tech was nice enough to still send me a replacement, I tell them the truth, they know my DX has the GB leak, wifes Dpro is rooted/rom, etc.
Lesson....
um, dont flash boot loader? ha ha ha.
Oh, I did crack the Tab open, took battery out, looked inside, real ***** getting back cover off, looked real good at cover, possible to airbrush/change colors though...
The tab is not really bricked if you can power it on. There is still a way to "unbrick" it.

Phone-!-pc icon is download mode, so you were not bricked. Usually, just reconnect to the pc and flash again.
Where did you get the three blade screw driver to open your tab?

You're not the first to do that. Use three wall charger for at least four hours, and try again.
In the stickie section (you can see that part of the forum if you view with a pc) there are some instructions involving some button sequences and the usb cord. But you may have to send tab away to samsung for a clean flash with a JTAG Box.
What is the name of the 3-blade screw driver, and where can I get one? It seems gorilla glass is a farce.

Dont remember the name of the screwdriver, I have alot of strange small tools, large collection of bits, you can get away with a regular small bit.
Taking the back off was a huge *****, you wont break anything, just a pain. Battery is huge, and a good majority of the weight.
