Wired Magazine APK Request - 7" Kindle Fire HD General

I recently purchased a Nexus 7, which I understand to have the same resolution as a Kindle Fire HD 8.9". I used to be able to run the Wired APK from the Amazon app store, but the old version of the APK that I have force closes on my Nexus 7. Would someone be willing to download the Wired app from the Amazon App Store on to their Fire HD (I don't believe the specific size model matters), and upload or email me the APK so I can sideload it?
I can't download the app directly since I have a different device, and the app is only listed as compatible with Kindle Fire and Nook HD models.
Thanks in advance!

up! i need it too, thank you

Nobody?? On a rooted Kindle Fire, this would have to take, what... all of five minutes? Maybe ten?
We aren't the first to ask for this, there are a lot of people out there who would really appreciate having the APK to at least give a shot!

Kindle

While the Kindle app runs, it is somewhat sluggish when page turning... definitely could use some work. This is the response I received from Amazon regarding it:
Hello,
I understand your concern regarding the update of Honeycomb version of Android.
At this point of time, we do not have specific information as to when this update will be made available. I have let the kindle team know about this, so that they will carefully review your suggestions and will regularly work on improvements to your Kindle experience.
Thanks for writing your valuable suggestions. We'll honor your commitment by continuing to provide the quality product availability and support you expect for your Kindle.
Thanks for using Kindle.

My original support request to them:
Comments:On the Motorola Xoom tablet, the application is very sluggish. I was just wondering when/if you guys would be releasing an update of the app to support the Honeycomb version of Android better.
Thanks!

I too am very interested in this update. Another point that could be greatly improved is when in landscape mode having the Kindle app show 2 pages instead of resizing one page to where its so wide its hard to read.
I am also very interested in an update to the Kindle app for honeycomb. A 2 page view for landscape viewing would be much better, it just looks goofy the way it is now. I'm thinking about using google books until Amazon updates the app, but I would rather have all of my content in one place.
Agreed. An update is very necessary. Two page landscape and performance are paramount.

Amazon is supposed to be launching their own Android app store this month:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/01/amazon-appstore-for-android-launching-this-month/
With all the attention they're going to get on Android with this app store launch, I can't believe that they wouldn't also be working on making the Kindle Android app shine on Honeycomb now that both the SDK and the first HW using it are out. I would assume it's just a question of time.
Amazon has been really goo about updating their apps, so I don't imagine it will take very long for them to get something out. With so many tablets coming out they won't want to miss out on that user base.
Yes I'm looking forward to a new tablet centric version of Kindle. I used the Amazon app almost exclusively on iPad it really shined there, it has to shine on Android tablets too. I agree that Amazon investing an Android App Market has to mean they intend to make Kindle work well with Android.
Right now I'm using Nook for Android until Kindle gets up to speed. I agree with the other comments the biggest issue right now is the lack of two page view in landscape. Reading books in landscape without it is awkward and reading it with the wide screen table in portroit mode is painful
Same here, looking forward to the kindle tablet app.
I have never used the kindle app on android before, but I have a quick question.
Does anybody know if you can hook up a kindle account to android if it's already linked to an actual kindle device? If you can, can you also read on both devices at the same time?

I believe you can. Kindle allows you to sync on any Kindle app. For instance, I have a book synced to my Kindle for PC, Kindle for Android and Kindle for Ipad.
Best part is it syncs your place within the book across all the platforms as well.

I have a kindle (3rd generation) that is linked to my Amazon kindle account.
When I ran the Android Kindle app, I logged in, and all of my previously purchased books were in the "Archived" section. I was able to open the book I was currently reading on the Kindle on the Xoom and read it without issue.
BTW, I haven't noticed any "sluggish" behavior from the Kindle app - but maybe I am just lucky.

Specifically the sluggish behavior is in the page turn. When you move the page it is really bad looking, which doesn't affect reading, it is more of a superficial issue. Just something they should polish when they fix landscape viewing (2 pages).
do not be surprised when Amazon announces that you will only be able to get further Android Kindle App updates via their App store.

As long as the app is free, I'll install their market for it. Then never use their market again. /shrug
looking forward to the updated kindle for honeycomb app.
when/if the amazon market comes, i'll welcome it. competition is a good thing...
i have a kindle and have a dozen or so books on my amazon account, so i definitely want to get the more tablet-friendly app asap.
hell, amazon is litteraly losing book sales from me right now as the last 2 books i bought through bn as their app is better on our xooms (though still needs to be updated as well).

[Q] Getting a Kindle for Christmas :)

Hey everyone, I'm about to get a Kindle Fire, my first ever android device. I've been a long time Apple user/jailbreaker, but so far the Android hacking community seems really confusing to me lol, anyways I have a few questions hopefully someone can answer.
1. Is there something like Cydia for Androids?
2. The new update from Amazon, 6.2.1, 'breaks root' - what is the possibility of that being fixed in the near future? What is the average time it takes for hackers to root Android devices?
3. I'm getting my Fire for Christmas, will I need to install the latest firmware to get it set-up , or is there a chance I won't be waiting for 6.2.1 to be rooted ?
4. What are some good Apps and and root tweaks?
1???????
2. with the bunch of devs we have here it will be rerooted within days i think from the new update , thats just my opinion.
3.no
4. home switcher, titanium back, ota rootkeeper, adw, go launcher, launcherplus and the most important one of all xda premium app...LOL
Thanks
1. Cydia is the Tweak store installed when you jailbreak (root in android terms) an iDevice
2 & 3. Awesome
4. Cool, I'll have to check those out
1. The Android Market
4. On top of the apps already mentioned... Root Explorer, AdFree, Angry Birds, Opera Mobile, Fruit Slice, and StumbleUpon are some good ones.
EDIT: Forget what I said about being able to root easily after the new update. I didn't realize 6.2.1 was the newest update and that it would prevent rooting via conventional methods such as SuperOneClick.
Turn off wifi as soon as you get it so it won't update, then you can root it and get the OTA file renamed to prevent the update.
Root is not the same as jailbreaking. Aneroid devices are naturally "jailbroken" because you can already sideload apps. ;-)
Definitely the XDA Premium App is one to get!

Wow - even normally unsupported apps?! Everything I've read here and seen on YouTube makes it seem like you need to root to install anything but amazon apps, so can I get the android market if when I get my fire it has the update already and then install apps from there?
I don't think you can install the Android Market without root, but that's just because you need to make it a system app.

But I can sideload android market apps without rooting?
Also does anyone know if there's a skip hack for pandora on androids?
Yes you can sideload them as long as you have the apk.
Do a search, there are Pandora apks with unlimited skip around.

There is now a pre-rooted 6.2.1 ROM in the development forum now, disable wifi and install it and you'll be set.
I am going to order KF soon, so I'm worried that it will come with 6.2.1 preinstalled. Anyone buy KF after new update?
I think they will have to sell a lot of units before new units arrive with newer versions. Last I heard, new units still had 6.0 on them and updated to 6.2 or 6.2.1 when they connected to the network via WiFi.
hope you like your Kindle is a great tablet...greetings!!!

What are the pros and cons of a rooted KF? Actually, I mostly want an honest assessment of the cons, since I understand pretty well what the pros are (ability to install entire new ROMs now or in the future, get the Android market, etc.)
Does rooting disable the Amazon Market?
Does rooting keep me from playing Amazon Prime videos?
Does rooting disable the Amazon Cloud service?

Accidentally "updated" Kindle app via Google Market, need original Kindle Fire .apk

Accidentally "updated" Kindle app via Google Market, need original Kindle Fire .apk
Hello, all! I apologize for intruding on your forums, I really do. But I've found myself in a spot of trouble, as the title might tell you. I just need the regular 'ole Kindle app that comes with the Fire, because the general Android app...well, it's just not as good, at least on a Fire, which has a nice integrated experience. So if someone can supply me with that, I would be mighty glad.
Also, and this might also be a little redundant...I noticed, after the 6.3 update, I can't use restore my root. I was trying to install Avast! but found that I RootRestore wasn't working. Will I need to do it once more? It's not a big deal, and I probably need to check out this convenient-sounding Kindle Fire Utility anyway.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to read this, and I really am sorry if this app has been posted before. I do Google extensively before I make ask forums for help, especially a forum I don't frequent like such as this one.
For the issue with the kindle app, all you need to do is go back to the google market, select the kindle app and choose uninstall updates.

PlayStation Vue conversion from Fire apk?

Just wondering if it would be possible to get the PS Vue apk working on the NP using the method mentioned in this thread here -http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/themes-apps/hbo-showtime-anytime-watchespn-firetv-t3226400
If someone wants to give it a shot that would be great. Let me know. I have the PS Vue apk pulled but just need someone to get it working.

APK - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3609528
Anybody get this working?
Is there a newer version of the APK?
"Purchasing" the app on Amazon, installing the Amazon Appstore or Amazon Underground + modifying device model to AFTB and manufacturer to Amazon seems to pass most of the checks but then launching the application goes to a screen with the Playstation Vue logo and a message saying to please update to the latest version of the app (it also says the version installed is 2.0.0).
Unfortunately the Amazon Appstore doesn't recognize the combined installation+purchase to offer an update or push of the latest. This seems to require somehow convincing the Amazon website you actually have a Fire device registered as one of devices for the App store.
My solution to this was to just get a Fire TV lol. It's much better and faster than the Nexus Player too.

Anyone happen to get this to work? I'd like to run the Fire Vue app on my shield. Or even just have the current apk?

Yes, this tablet is perfect. And you can easy root it with k4y0z method or diplomatic's method.
Thanks and how i can remove the Special Offers?
I'm not sure if this applies to newer models, but on my HD8 2016 if you never register to Amazon you never get special offers. I haven't seen one ad since I've owned it.

There are 4 ways To remove the ads, With root, you can uninstall them. A program called automate, and from what I seen through a Amazon customer service chat. Or pay the extra money.
What is the Best Way to remove this and can tell me anyone, i would like to use Prime Video ,Skygo, Netflix with this Tablet also i would like to use the normal Play Store, so whats the Best way for it?
Anyone know can I made a Custom Rom on this Tablet? is it able? Lineage OS

I have never gotten ads on any amazon tablet I have owned that had special offers. The only tablet I have ever registered with Amazon is my old 8.9. Sometimes it made downloading the OTA easier.
So i shouldn´t register the Tablet and cancel the First Wirless Lan Access right?
I would like to install Playstore and my favorit Game and Netflix,Skygo and something more Apps.
Guys, before i make any changes, can i make a full backup for warranty that i can just go to restore Orignal Amazon FW without root or any changes
My suggestion is to ask amazon to remove them if you have the ad's. You don't need root to install the play store or apps you seem to be interested in. To make a full backup, you need to be rooted. But looking at what you want to do, just fire it up and use it. There is currently nothing preventing you from changing your mind and deciding to root. I don't like automate cause it is an application being used in the background. Many have reported that just contacting or emailing amazon has got their ads removed. Worst case is they charge you 10-15$ and credit is back from what the thread said. Check out the thread under general. If you don't register you wont have access to the amazon stuff (amazon video, amazon app store, and etc.
