Hi guys
I bought this phone yesterday and can't seem to get it on LTE. The carrier says it is turned on and my area is covered.
I hope someone can help me out.

Why reply if you won't be helpful?
I've tried searching, but couldn't find anything.
If you can help, help. Otherwise don't bother with the attitude.
Which country, and how do you know your not on lte?
Sometime carriers use fastdormancy to switch it off.
Sometimes users turn on battery saving features.
Sometimes your sim,
Sometimes users in mobile networks set it to 2g
Sometimes there are alternative ways to turn it on.
All can be eliminated by querying most of the time.
Hope it helps.
Also check your APN settings
Sent from my g2 using xda app-developers app
I'm from Denmark. It doesn't show the 4G logo at the battery status. It only shows 3G and H. If it worked it would say 4G, I've seen it before.
The carrier says it's turned on and coverage should be 2 bars on 4G/LTE where I'm living.
No battery saving features.
SIM card is 2 months old, but maybe.
It is set on 2G/3G/4G.
What are the alternal ways to turn it on?
I will check the detail with the APN settings.
Thanks a lot.

Looks like you can use some tricks to turn it on. Try above posters threads, I think some people did it by going into hidden menu, but not sure. Didn't need to do it myself yet.

Pull down the notification bar and press hold the data toggle then go into network mode and choose LTE auto

Yeah usually if its not available via mobile network settings, or APN settings then there is something disabled by provider or via hidden settings. Usually.
Sometimes the sim, not really explainable why.
After changing in hidden settings did you do airplane mode, back on to force it?
Also sometimes a reboot is needed, plus a check if the settings were taken over correctly

I bought a phone with LTE, and I want the LTE to work. Is this so hard to understand? If it is faulty, I want a faultless phone.

Did you return your phone already? I've the same problem. I can can see the LTE network, however, when in manual selection mode, but if i select it, phone tries to connect for a minute with no luck an then falls back to 3G.
Hidden menu does not help, as it says it's not possible on this phone.
Would be really interesting whether another G2 solves your problem. I think this is not a hardware issue.
Greetings,
Oliver

I've returned the phone and got a new one. Same issue. Tried a different carrier and it worked right away and stays on LTE. I will change my carrier. My carrier changed some SIM settings and it worked for a couple of minutes. Then back on CDMA. I do not believe it is a hardware issue any longer.
you tried switch off fast dormancy?
or other power saving settings. They tend to switch to least power networks when not utilizing network/ data

No g2 auto switch if signal is weak.. to save power.. bcos searching and when signal low phone auto boosting signal and drains battery..
battery saver settings is generally g2side, fast dormancy is allowing provider to do it for you

OK I have searched in here and for the most part I am finding no helpful information because 90% of you have no desire to disable JUST 3g. The only ones that are concerned are people like myself who have 1 bar of 3g for the majority of the day, whereas edge is providing 3 bars. Its really hard on my battery (and annoying) for my phone to constanly look for 3g only to find 1 bar and maintain it for about 3 minutes, it then defaults to edge again until 5 minutes later it sees that 1 bar of 3g again. This is at my work which has lead lined walls ( I work in Radiology).
I would like to disable 3g and force edge throughout the day. I use wifi at work for data but want to be able to text without it eating up my battery. Can someone please find a way to edit a file in the operation system to allow this?
Just to let you know I have already tried all the widgets available including anycut and none of them are providing this function for me. anycut will give me what appears to be a toggle of "2g networks only" but it actually does nothing, nor does it stick when I exit the setting page. I also tried accessing the menu from the dial pad to force 2g only but the options never stick, nor am I interested in typing *#*#4636#*#* every morning when I get to work. Please help me find a simple solution. Thanks!
I did it only by enabling gsm only in *#*#4636#*#*
Worked for me...now im only on edge

Went home to test the 3g theory, and i always get H+ when i put my phone in the kitchen window. one bar. today, EDGE all the time i was home with full signal. so the 2g Toggle DOES work i guess.....
I can not get the 2g toggle to work at all. Its also strange to me that I can't get any network settings to stick from the dial pad menu either. It seems as if those of us who can't get it to work have a read only network file or something. For those who got it to work, are you on att? What else can you tell us about your phones? What procedure did you go through exactly to get it to work?
I have an att Atrix that is rooted and running that custom Adeo rom from this forum.
I installed the abycut app. Placed bother gsm/umts settings pages from anycut onto one of my desktops, then tried both tick boxes on each to enable 2g only. This did not work. I also went into the extra settings from there and tried to manually set networks and what not and I am just not able to get edge to stick. I have toggled airplane mode after setting them, tried different combinations, and have rebooted the phone.
Has anyone with att got this to work?

I just tried 800 combinations of settings using anycut and the 4636 menu and NOTHING WORKS. I tried doing what the last poster said, I tried every setting and then toggled airplane mode, I went info 4636 and even toggled the radio to CDMA! Nothing would force edge. Nothing.
I will pay 1.5 million dollars for an app that toggles:

EDGE only
3G Only
HSPA+ Only

Is there a way to force CyanogenMod (or even the stock rom) to stay at HSPA? My phone has issues going from 3G to HSPA and staying there (happens regardless of rom). Is there a way to make it stick on HSPA? I'm not too worried about the battery life, it's already pretty abysmal.
Thanks!
I don't know if there is. The reason it does that is to keep unnecessary bandwidth from being used by the phone. It's a quick switch.
Edit: there is the old method of dialing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting wcdma only, but I think it still switches between 3G/4G
There is no way, it's dependent on cellular carrier and not on the phone AFAIK.
The question is - why would you want to? What are the "issues" you're seeing?

my phone is refusing to go up to 4g (HSPA) in a reasonable amount of time. It takes on average 45-60 seconds for it to move up. It's done that no matter which rom I use and it's annoying as pages won't load until it goes to HSPA
Bad. OK, as a very harsh and bad semi-solution you could run a ping once in 5 sec, that would keep your phone's data connection constantly active. But it's no good solution.

I did the *#*#4636#*#* and switched to wcdma only and it seems to make the transition quicker maybe 2 seconds instead of 25 and I'm on the nexus 4
Hi
I was playing around with my phone and tried the old hack through the settings screen, *#*#4636#*#*.
Switched it to LTE and set up a new APN for Rogers LTE.
It Didn't work. After more reading I discovered this wouldn't work for me anyway. I have Android 4.4.2 and I don't think my SIM is LTE enabled.
I rebooted thinking it would just go back to the original settings.
It seems to have gone back but now I have No signal at all.
I am with Rogers. I tried going back to the original APN settings and selecting Rogers.
The phone is finding the correct networks for my area.
I tried the Reset to default in the APN settings. This sets the APNs to Rogers LTE and chatr, not the original Rogers APN that I started with.
The phone is rooted but running stock Android 4.4.2.
The baseband seems correct.
What have I done and how do I fix it?
Have I done something to the Rogers SIM?
Thanks

Had to assume that because I've never seen someone try LTE without doing so.
What you can try is find the stock radio, which might still be the same as you are using, then flash it. Maybe that will reset things back to normal.

No luck.
I tried flashing the stock radio then flashed everything using efrant's instructions. Still no go.
The thing I find strange is when I select Reset to default in the APN settings it sets the APN to Rogers LTE not the default 3G setting.
Delete the Rogers LTE apn and make a new one with this info:
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http ://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN Type: mms
You can also try this one:
APN: internet.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
Go to phone info *#*#4636#*#*, and change network type to WCDMA Preferred. Reboot, and see if that does it.
I've done that several times.
Still won't connect.
The error is; No service. Selected network (ROGERS) unavailable.
When I search networks Telus, Bell and Rogers all show up.
I've tried selecting Rogers and selecting automatically. When I select automatically it selects Rogers but comes back with the same error.

I have tried wiping everything out and flashing a complete stock 4.4.2.

This is getting ridiculous.
All I did was change a setting from "WCDMA Preferred" to "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" and back again and that killed a phone?

Mystery solved.
I don't know why it happened at exactly the time when I tried LTE but...
The phone has been reported lost or stolen.
I bought it over two weeks ago. I checked the IMEI on the Government web site, that is supposed to protect us from this kind of thing, and it came back clean. I checked again last night and it's blacklisted.
I would say the girl that I bought it from got it on a $0 contract. Sold it then reported it lost or stolen. She's still on the hook for the contract but, so what, she'll never really have to pay it. Either that or it takes 2-3 weeks for a phone to show up on the blacklist.
Either way, the Government initiative to blacklist stolen or lost phones sounded like a good idea but in reality it's not protecting anyone.
So, now I have a small tablet and learned a lesson. Don't buy used cell phones and if you do, don't trust the protectyourdata.ca web site to protect you.
The site boasts;
"Purchasing a pre-owned device?
Check the IMEI number here to ensure the device has not been reported lost or stolen in Canada."
Thanks for trying to help folks. I did learn more about Android through this.

I've seen about 2 or 3 threads on Android Central with the same symptoms that seemed to never get resolved.
I suspect they had the same problem and either didn't know how to check or were to embarrassed to say.
I was upset but I want others to be able to find this answer.
Through buying and selling different phones working my way up to the Nexus 4 I'm really only $110 out of pocket.
A 16GB Android media player with WiFi must be worth $110.
So, is there a way to eliminate the wireless radio and leave WiFi?
I guess I should start another thread on that.

I just pulled the SIM, deleted all APNs, turned off Mobile Data and left WiFi on.

Exactly. I had the same problem. 4G didn't work for me. I simply sold the phone and bought an N910c.
The exclamation mark will be there if there is no data or wi-fi connection available. I am afraid there is little you can do to remove it. But rest assured this is not a problem with the phone or the software. And Sprint unlocked phones are perfectly usable in 3G mode in the Indian Sub-continent. I have used a Sprint Galaxy Note 3 for more than a year without any problems. So there is nothing wrong with the phone or the update you received. If you still feel the need to remove it you can try a factory reset or try and switch the Network mode to 'Global' (Sprint phones being both CDMA/GSM compatible, should have a 'Global' mode) and see if the signal changes. Also try and keep Data on at all times and see. And from your comments it seems your phone is working fine both over wi-fi and Data Connection. So, don't get unnecessarily worried. Everything's fine.
I have a note 4 from sprint here in jamaica it shows the same exclamation sign but I can't make a call nor text
I have similar issue.

When I connect to wifi with no internet, I get the same "sign in to network" message. It can be recreated over and over. I like using my android device to control other devices over wifi, but this message drives me nuts. Also, my device will not automatically reconnect to wifi with no internet. This is a stupid setup. Can anyone help?

Welcome to XDA @mpot
I'm not sure if this will help but it's worth a try. Open "Developer option" in your phone settings and look for "Networking" and you'll notice additional WiFi settings are available.

Oh, as long as your in there, I recommend setting Windows animation scale, Transition animation scale and Animation duration scale to "0" or "Off". You'll notice a faster response when using your device.
Hello All.
This may sound like an easy problem to solve and a part of me hopes it is. but im fairly well versed in android and has me baffled.
Phone runs beautifully 870DS. When i leave WiFi, the swith to mobile data takes for ever and then remains super fickle and intermittent. I sometimes do not have any data moving whatsoever (offline dinosaur in chrome level) When i connect to wifi again, all is fine, instantly.
I have full signal (full bars).
Mobile data on.
Switch to mobile data on.
The correct network registered & the correct APN for that network is set.
I have it set to GSM/WCDMA/ LTE auto
I have tried setting RAT set to every possible combo and it still continues!
I read somewhere it could be caused by radio initiation, so i went in *#*#4636#*#* to run a ping test but "phone information" throws up an error "This application does not work on this device"
Im 95% certain it is unlocked because i I bought the phone in another country and just popped my new sim straight in without hassle.
The mobile data issues started almost immediately. Now im stumped as what to do.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and rewarded with beer :good:
THANKS!!!
In Developer Options, try switching on the "Agressive WiFi to Cellular Handover" option.

Thanks. I will try that and trial run it over the next few days. The issue also occurs randomly while out on LTE or 3G. I will take my phone out to check google or whatsapp and nothing will send. So as your suggestion may be a work around, i doubt it will be a solve.
Will let you know how it goes

go to settings, system, about phone, hardware info and check the model number.
For example I have LG-H870 (European bands, single SIM model).
I see you have dual sim so probably model H870DS and this should have enough bands to work well in Europe and Asia. Check here:

Thanks for that. Yes according to this https://www.frequencycheck.com/carr...0ds-g6-dual-sim-td-lte/mtn-group-south-africa
I do have the correct bands. Could a carrier lock only one of the slots rendering it single sim in effect? The one sim works perfectly, second sim, no dice
Sorry for bumping an old thread.
Gf is having a similar issue on her phone; long story short, it happens that sometimes, after being connected to Wi-Fi and turing it off, it takes ages for her to get a mobile data connection, despite having full signal.
I had her replace the SIM, as I've seen similar problems (intermittent data connection, phone appears connected but no Internet available, etc.) with a SIM card that was about to go bad; it didn't help. Next step would be a full phone reset.
@deathcells : did you find the cause of your issue?
@fagentu.xda
No unfortunately not. I just deal with it. Extremely frustrating standing in the shop trying to pay without internet...
I tried the settings and force options to no avail.
I tried using both sim cards (from different providers) in both slots for months and no combination ever worked for me. I have yet to figure out if i bought a dudd phone or if a work around exists. Please let me know what you find out! Thanks and best of luck
Have the same issue with mine now. It started to go bad a few weeks ago... Tried everything. Changed SIM card, factory reset, etc... and nothing will change.
I'd say that the phone is just faulty. As I'm still under the warranty I'm in contact with LG to find out about a possible fix or phone replacement. I'll try to keep you posted.
Have you guys find a solution for this? I cant do anything. Does flashing kdz to andriod 9 pie helps?
