[Q] How can I find my AAA Key from my Sprint S4? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I am trying to find out and back up my S4's AAA key. I am on the MK2 firmware. I have my msl/spc and the Samsung password, and tried various methods posted on Xda and other sites (DFS, CDMA Workshop).
My main issue is that when I try to access the item 1192, it keeps saying "access denied". Has anyone been able to get their AAA Key?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app

same problem
Please anyone out there with any knowledge concerning this should help out because am the same situation here with an S3 L710

So I think that I have found a solution to my question. I'll post the steps that I performed and maybe someone could verify?
1. Install alogrec from the Play Store. This app will record all of your phone's processes and saves them in a text file on your phone.
2. Run said app.
3. From the dialer, enter ##DATA# (3282).
4. When the menu appears, select "edit".
5. When asked, enter in your MSL/SPC, and select enter. If you don't know your MSL/SPC, check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060085.
6. Select Data Profile
7. Select AAA Password.
8. Delete the password (which is 6 characters and obscured) and then cancel out. I did the same for the ha password.
9. I exited out of the menu entirely.
10. Stop alogrec from recording and note where the record is located on the phone.
11. Connect the phone to a computer and open the log with your preferred text viewer.
12. Search for the phrase "aaa_pw:" (sans quotes)
13. The first 6 characters should be the AAA password.
Give this a whirl and let me know what your experiences are.

I tried it again on a different phone, and had a similar experience. I then tried it with a different app,
Catlog, and by following the same steps, I was able to find the aaa password again.
I should note that this aaa password is the profile 1 aaa password and not the profile 0 password.
I don't know the function of the profile 0 aaa password, but I still can't find it.

[TUTORIAL] Flash Epic to Cricket.

--**Here's a method to get the Epic flashed to cricket with internet and apps***--
***Edit- I cleaned up my post and attached a good PRL to use (42700) and "ConnectBot.apk". I also believe I have MMS sorted out. I'm gonna double check everything later tonight to make sure there's no issues and I'll update my post accordingly.
---Requirements---
*Download and install Qpst. 2.7 build 355
*Download and install normal Epic 4g drivers.
*Cricket prl. (42700 PRL is what I recommend. I've attached it to my post)
*USB Cable
*Your MSL.(I attached connectbot to my post in case you need it)
_________________________
---Getting your MSL---
-If you know your MSL already you can skip this part and start at the "Getting started and setting up QPST".
1. Find and install "Connectbot" found in the market or at the bottom of my post.
2. Select the dropdown box on the bottom left that says "SSH", and choose "local". Put whatever you'd like in the nickname box and hit "enter".
3. Click on "Android".
4. Use the command "getprop ril.MSL" and hit "enter".
5. Your MSL should now be displayed.
...If that doesnt work...
1.Type "getprop" instead.
2. It should show a long list, scroll down to the section that starts with "ril".
3. You should see "ril.msl", the 6 digit MSL number will be after that.
---Getting started and setting up QPST---
1. Plug in your phone to your computer and when prompted to choose between "Charging, mass storage, or tethered modem", choose "Tethered modem", then choose "3g modem".
2. Open up QPST > "QPST Configuration". Click on the "Add new port" on the bottom right. Uncheck mark the "Show serial and USB ports only". In the box above it, you should see your phone connected and the corresponding COM port. Select it and the "Port" and "Port label" will autofill. Hit "Ok".
3. Open up QPST > Service programming. Select your phone in the "Select an active phone" box.
Click on "Read from phone" and enter your SPC when prompted.
***(Note: If you are having trouble with QPST recognizing your phone, instead of using the "Tethered modem" method when plugging in your phone, dial ##8778# and switch both the "UART" and "USB" options to "MODEM". QPST should then see your phone. Revert the "MODEM" option in the previous menu to "PDA" when done.)
---For talk/text---
1. You will first write a new prl to your phone. Cricket prl 42700 is preferred.
2. Click on the "Roam tab at the top.
3. Click on the "browse" button under "Preferred roaming" and locate the prl file you wish to write.
4. Click on "Write to phone".
5. Let QPST do it's thing and voila, your new PRL will be written to your phone.
---For internet---
1. Click the "M.IP" tab (may be "M.IPv6") and set "Mobile IP Behavior" as "MOB + Simp".
Select any profiles listed under "user profiles" and click edit. Do the following for all profiles:
Make sure that "profile enabled" is checked and enter in the following:
NAI: [email protected]
Tethered NAI: [email protected]
2. Change "home address", "primary ha", and "secondary HA" to all zeros.
3. On both "HA Shared" and "AAA Shared Secret, select the "enter text string" and type in the following password (all lower case): "cricket".
4. Click "Ok".
5. Set active user as "0".
6. Click "PPP Config".
7. Click the "Um" Button.
8. Under user ID enter: [email protected] as well as for tethered NAI. If a text box is black with red lines in it, click it and press ctrl + D. Enter "cricket" in the password box.
9.Click the "AN" Button and repeat the last step.
10. Click "write to phone"...After that, you should now have the 3g icon on your phone.
11. Last step to get internet and apps working, if you're already activated on cricket, is to call customer service and have them switch you to the 55 dollar Android plan.
_________________________
*Please note: They have a 55 dollar "All-in" plan, as well as the $55 Android one. So make sure you're put on the right one. I've had most luck by asking to speak with the "Smartphone department" and then requesting them to have my equipment and plan changed.
**Thanks to anderdroid for testing Android plan with fascinate.
Hope this helps! PM me if you need a download link for QPST.
how would if you do it using QPST?
I am still waiting for mine to arrive but I always use QPST to inject to other networks and unlock the EVDO
wait for further infomation, because i want to use it in China, where the carrier situation is a little complicated.
cdma isn't carrier locked, if its the same frequency then you should se if cricket will flash it for u

Alternatively...you can install the regular Epic drivers and plug in the phone...when given the three choice prompt, choose "tethered modem"...then select 3G tether. The phone will then connect on a COM port and you can then connect to your phone using CDMA Workshop, QPST, or whichever programming tool you prefer and flash the prl that way. I'm still working on getting the data up and running.

Default 16 digit should be 01F2030F5F678FF9, give it a try. You can also use CDMA Workshop to read and change your Epic's SPC, which is the way I prefer.
So, quick question, do I need a specifically modded rom to run my Epic on Cricket, or is it that I can use any rom and then flash the phone??? I'd like to know this because I bought the phone off contract and would like to use it on Cricket. -thanks

Nope, doesn't need to be any specific rom. It can be whichever one, even the stock one.
Sick!!! this makes my life so much easier thanks!
I finally managed to write AN data parameter for EV-DO, using QPST 2.7 build 355, other version wont write the ev-do parameter. Data is ON now for my network.
This is only because my carrier using simple IP, I believe cricket is using a mobile IP, so the case might be different.
Well, I'm kinda new at this flashing business and my contract with my gsm provider has been over. I just wanted to transfer my number onto my new epic 4g on cricket but so far I haven't found a dealer who can do it, can anyone help me out, maybe post a tutorial or guide, it would be hugely appreciated

I made this in a hurry, but I believe I got everything.
**thanks to anderdroid for testing Zio plan with fascinate.
***Edit- Since I'm a new member, it wouldn't let me post the links to the downloads of Qpst and the 32100 cricket PRL. PM me if you need either.
Now if there was a way to make sprint think this was a Hero and not an Epic then we could avoid the $10 charge. That's the only real reason I have went back to the Hero.
Wow, great guide, thanks! Just a couple o more questions, sorry. Where one has to input the 10 digit cricket number it is assuming then that you have an account already and that you'll be moving to 55 dollar plan in order to achieve that change to 3g enabled correct?

No problem, but to answer your question...yes, it is assuming that. You can get your account set up first and flash the text/talk portion using the steps above and once that's done, you can get the internet set up and working...
Perfect, thanks! :]
If anyone would like screen dumps I can do this... There were a couple of steps I needed to do to connect.
Thanks for the help everyone!
EDIT:
Rock on... Got data now! I had to do this all because my wife and I are going through a divorce. I purchased the phone, but it was on her account. Well she decided to turn it off, and I remembered hearing about how everyone changed their phone over to Cricket...
The store that I started my Cricket service with gave me the all in 55 plan. Had to make a call tonight to get it changed. Nothing happened after the first call and after the second call I asked if there was anything I needed to do. He told me to dial *228 talk and then it would reboot itself. I was hesitant because I thought this might be standard operating procedure for just the Zio. I dialed it and listened to the message. Then it hung up and a pop up screen said CDMA call dropped. There was an X inside of a circle next to the signal bars. I finally rebooted it and then the data worked.
I got the MSL by using ConnectBot from the market and followed this procedure, logging in local (bottom left drop down menu), typing a random username, connecting, and using the "getprop" command.
What will we have to do to get the Froyo update though?
I need those couple extra steps to connect since I'm having trouble getting the phone recognized by QPST please
Open QPST Configuration > Ports > Add New Port (you may have to uncheck Show Serial and USB....)
If you can't locate the port based on the results then go into your Device Manager on your computer. Check under COM ports there to see what your Samsung is under. After you add this port then you should be able to use QPST Service Programmer.
Uh another cool thing is that I can use the Sprint Hotspot utility. I took the security off and it works. 3g hotspot for free and without root.

Straight Talk problems

So, I've entered the correct APN (Plus tried a few others, just in case.) but I'm unable to send/receive data. I'm connected to the network but I keep getting a notification telling me to "Sign into network HOME". When I press the notification, the browser opens up http://androidapi.t-mobile.com/apppack/mvno.html which is not a loadable page, even with working internet.
Customer service is clueless. They were supposed to have sent me a new SIM a week ago and all tracking information is turning up nada. (I'll spare everyone the tirade about the cretinous call center employees but I will say my own Google searches turned up very little about this and the employees there knew even less.)
Anyone experience this problem?
Try these settings? And ya may want to remove your number, for privacy reasons.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
It's definitely not an APN issue. Plus, attempting to input 410 into the MNC field will simply delete the APN. Thanks, though.
Try to make a new APN, it doesn't matter what you name it. Save, then select it & reboot. Hope you get it fixed, I know it can be really frustrating!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Oh, I know. It's just that, when you put 410 into the MNC field, it deletes the APN right there and then. I've had that happen several times while trying several different APN songs.
If it does turn out to be an APN problem, I'll be pretty surprised.
I appreciate the help but, believe me, I wouldn't have even posted here if I hadn't troubleshot the problem extensively and spent torturous hours on the phone with Straight Talk's beyond clueless customer service.

It's a T-Mobile Straight Talk SIM.
I swear that every attempt ever on this phone, and a couple others, to put 410 into the MNC field results in instant deletion of the APN.
The problem has persisted on both stock and AOKP build 6.
I know this won't come across as genuine but it is, you guys are already more helpful than any Straight Talk employee I have talked to. Appreciate the ideas.

I was able to get it working by modifying the settings.db file as explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...512674&page=12
As an aside, you don't have to buy the SQLite editor for 2.99 from the play store. You can download ES File Explorer (Free) and aSQLiteManager (Free). Here are the steps you'll need to execute once you've downloaded both free apps and installed them:
1. Open ES File Explorer
2. Locate the Tools menu (on Nexus 5 this is the top left icon) and find the 'Root Explorer' and set it to "On" (this will allow you to navigate to data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
3. Long press on the 'settings.db' file, select 'copy'
4. Using the top menu breadcrumbs navigate to somewhere you can copy the file locally (e.g. sdcard/Download)
5. Once copied, select the file (you should be prompted with aSQLiteManager to open the database if you've downloaded and installed the app), select 'Open database with aSQLiteManager' button
6. Select the 'global' table
7. Select the 'Data' button to show all data in the table (you should see many records in a 3-column table (columns listed as 'New_id', 'name' and 'value').
8. Select 'PgDn' until you see the last record - in my settings.db file the last record was New_id=65, name=wifi_on and value=1.
9. Select the 'New' button to add a new record - the primary key in this table is New_id so make sure you add the record with the next incremental number (e.g. if 65 is the last record, the new record you add should be 66 - so, in this case add: New_id=66, name=tether_dun_required, value=0)
10. Save the settings.db file
11. Copy and paste this updated file using ES File Explorer back into the data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases folder. You'll be prompted to replace the existing file. Select yes.
That's it, you should be good to go and tethering should work now! It worked for me without rebooting but some folks had to reboot for the changes to take effect.

This is also occurring on my Nexus 4 which I am loaning to family. Before handing it over I did a factory reset and then upgraded to 5.1 Lollipop. She took the phone down to Straigh Talk, who apparently put in the correct settings (I compared to the official website), yet I keep getting the "Sign into HOME" notification. Voice and Text works, but no data at all.
Clicking on that link tries to open a webpage but nothing happens. There is a 3 dot options menu on the top right which has two options: Don't Use Network, and Use Network As Is. Obviously the first one doesn't give desired results. The second option appears to put the phone online (3G and HSPA+ shows up next to the signal bars), but after about 10 seconds the signal bars go back to the "!" next to them, and the "Sign into HOME" notification comes back.
Maybe this is a bug on the device?

I'm also curious too about op's question .... I want to buy a gs4 and keep it on sprint service but flash to my legacy plan. I've been tracking the Note 2 forum on xda and other external forums, can't find a legit instance of someone with working data on a flashed gs4.
In order for me to get 3g on my boost flashed s4 I had to input the settings for profile 1 that came from my donor. Its a different password than the 32 digit password u use on profile 0. My s4 would not ota with just profile 0 set. Stil doesnt but 3g works!

This is exactly what I'm talking about. What program did you use to write the data profile? Care to share a mini tutorial?

I can confirm that you can get all this working on sprint legacy. I got Voice, Data, Text ... working but 3G data was slow. I did ##DEBUG# and put in lock code SPRINT (777468) ... goto EVDO Engineering Protocol ...State was INACTIVE ... AN-AAA was FAIL.
If your AN-AAA is fail then you copied over a DFS setting wrong. You'll need to re-write certain fields with DFS over and over again to get them to stick. I connected my Epic donor read all the tabs in DFS and took screen grabs of the Programming General, Data, NAMM (make sure you set NAM1 & NAM2), Mobile IP Profile 0, Mobile IP Profile 1. I connected the S4 to DFS and read all the tabs and compared them against the screen grabs. I did a write command to make sure every checkbox matched perfectly and the ones that couldn't be un-populated on the S4 I left alone. I then re-read the tabs with the S4 one last time to make sure the changes kept.
This solved my slow data connection with the S4. If I do ##DEBUG# then EVDO state is now Active and AN-AAA is pass.
Good luck.

If you're getting error 67 the your profile 1 AAA key is not correct. It is not the same as profile 0.
I've written what I thought was the correct 12 digit key for profile 1 and it says pass under debug.... Could it still be wrong?
Error 67 is data profile error, regardless of what debug says there has to be something entered wrong in your profile 1 in dfs ... Redo the whole profile in dfs and recheck against screen grabs as I suggested.
Also, make sure you also updated the prl. I'm using PRL 56012

Same Ploblem
Hi
I have the same problem ,my phone (SPH-L720) flashed to other CDMA network outside USA , all the setting was right but unfortunately i couldn't get data working.
It's only connected for 2 minutes after phone boot up then drop automatically and couldn't get 3G again until reboot.
I noticed there was a gateway IP address in ##DATA# > View > Others > Browser > Gateway IP & Port & Secure Port
in ##DATA# > Edit > Others there is no option here to edit the gateway ip & ports

What if your epic is long dead which is one of the reasons this route was chosen and nothing but the numbers for activation were used? Used to see error 67 a lot. Now just 131. No calls, texts, or data. By deactivating and reactiving my account one tech was able to get rid of the error 131 and a 3G icon popped up, but still had no data or anything....Then the call dropped and all her worked washed away with the other reps.....
I saw AAA fail in the debug menu so I guess I'll have to go to the other thread and look into them more.

yes hello i am trying to use qpst i go to configuration and i can see my phone i already did the virtual port and cdma workshop i am trying to
Section 4: QPST
When using QPST, don't let your phone go into sleep mode or it will lose connection.
1.) Open your Programs menu and go to QPST > QPST Configuration. If you do not see an active phone listed, select the "Ports" tab and click "Add New Port..." at the bottom right. Highlight the port you created for the DX, then click "OK." It should show the phone information. If it doesn't, check to make sure the DX is in PC mode.
2.) Close the window, and go back to Programs > QPST > Service Programming. Select the phone info, and click "OK." On the new window that pops up, click the "Read from Phone" button on the bottom left. A box will pop up asking for the SPC, but it already has 000000 in it, so just click "OK" and a blue progress bar will start creeping across the top left part of the screen. It might take a few minutes to finish.
3.) Click the "M.IP" tab. Select the entry for your phone, then click the "Edit" button. Make sure the NAI and Tethered NAI both read [email protected] or [email protected]. Your phone number should take the place of the xxxxxxxxxx. Home address, Primary HA address, and Secondary HA address should all be 0.0.0.0. If they aren't, change them. Click the "OK" button. While you're on the M.IP tab, make sure the Mobile IP behavior drop down is set to "Mob + Simp f/back" and Active User is set to 0.
4.) Select the "PPP Config" tab and click the "Um" button. Tethered NAI and User ID should be the same as they were in the M.IP tab. The Req PW box should be checked. In the password field, type in either "cricket" or "metropcs" depending on your carrier. Click the "AN" button, and make sure the USR ID is the [email protected] or [email protected]. The Req PW box should be checked, and the password is the same as it was for the Um tab. Tethered NAI should be blank and grayed out.*
5.) Click the "Write to Phone" button on the bottom of the screen. It may take a few minutes, and the phone may reboot. When it comes back up, you should have web access.

[GUIDE] Flash Sprint Moto X to Page Plus

Hello all! I recently won a Sprint Moto X on eBay for the shockingly low price of $130, and I decided to attempt to flash it to Page Plus. So, in order, that others may benefit from this awesomeness, I decided to post a basic guide. One thing to note is that, if you have flashed Sprint phones to Page Plus before, the process is very similar.
DISCLAIMER: This guide comes with no guarantees of any kind. If you lose personal data or service, brick your phone, or lose your arm to gangrene, I am not responsible.
Stuff You Need
A PC running Windows
Motorola Drivers (download here)
SPCUtility APK (download here)
DFS (download here)
QPST (download here)
Page Plus PRL (attached)
10.key file (attached)
Stock, rooted Moto X 4.4.2 firmware (you can try an older version, but I've only tested on this)
How to Do It
First, if you don't have one, get a Page Plus phone number and account. You'll need it for manually programming.
If you have trouble getting Page Plus to accept your ESN (which is the MEID you'll find in Settings > About Phone > Status), try live chat until someone is okay with activating a 4G phone. They will probably warn you that they offer no support for programming 4G phones.
Make sure to Live Chat with Page Plus and ask for your MDN, MIN, and SID. Most likely, your MDN and MIN will be your phone number.
Once everything on Page Plus' end is set up, dial ##DIAG# on your phone. In the screen that appears, click the overflow button and choose Edit. Then set Diag Port to Enable.
Now install the Motorola drivers so you can connect your phone to your PC. This is sometimes a tricky process, and I don't know why. Google is your friend if you have trouble. When successful, you will see this in Device Manager.
Before attempting to program, you need your MSL. Install the SPCUtility APK and use it to get your MSL.
If you haven't already, install DFS. Open the program and click the Ports button in the upper-left corner. Then double-click the Motorola QC Diag Port to select it. (If you don't see this port, the drivers are not properly set up.) Close the Ports window.
Enter your MSL in the SPC box under the Ports button. Then click the SPC send arrow. Your log window should show DEVICE UNLOCKED. (If the log window is not visible, click the Log button in the upper-right.)
(Optional) In the General tab, click Read in the SPC box. Then replace the SPC string with 000000 and click Write. This sets your MSL to all-zeroes, useful for future programming.
In the General tab, click Read in the Config box. It may already read NV_ONLY. If it does not, set it and click Write.
Go under the NAM tab and click Read at the bottom. The fields will populate with your phone's current programming. Now replace the numbers in both MIN A and MIN D fields with your MIN. Fill the MDN and PCS fields with your MDN. Finally, in the Home box, fill in your SID and click Write.
In the PRL box, click Load and select the Page Plus PRL you downloaded. Click Write.
At this point, you may click Reset and your phone should have talk/text. Try taking and sending one of each to verify that everything has gone right so far.
Now go back to DFS and send your SPC again to get back to work. In the Data tab, click Read, and then fill out all of the UID fields and the HDR AN NAI field with [email protected] (the X's being your phone number). In the PPP SIP NAI, use [email protected]. Put "vzw" (sans quotes) in all of the password fields, and make sure the authentication box is checked. Click Write.
Go to the Mobile IP tab and click Read. At this point, I admit that I do not know 100% what I am doing, but that these settings worked for me. Basically, make your settings look like these ones, but input your number where I scribbled out my own. Also, for everything in the Selected Profile Settings box, put it in both the first and second profile selections. After filling each of those out, click Write current profile settings. Then click Write in the left box.
At this point, reset your phone. You might have working 1X after a minute. Irrelevant, because we're about to go for 3G. Close DFS.
Open QPST Configuration (install it if you haven't). Click Add New Port... and select the only available port. Click Okay, then go to Start Client > EFS Explorer. Select your phone and enter your MSL. It will take a minute to read the phone's EFS data.
Once the EFS data is loaded, right click the root directory and click New > Directory. Name the new folder DMU.
Inside the DMU folder, click File > Open and select the 10.key file you downloaded. Verify the target path is /DMU/10.key.
When the file is copied successfully, click Phone > Reset Phone. When the phone reboots, wait a minute or two. You should have 3G!

MMS Fix
Download and install 8sms from the Play Store or their website.
If you're using KitKat, be sure to set the new app as your default SMS app.
In the app, go to Settings > MMS Settings.
Now set the following:
MMS Network: Sprint
MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=XXXXXXXXXX (the X's being your phone number)
MMS Proxy: leave blank
MMS Port: 8080 (if that doesn't work, try 80)
MMS over WiFi: Off
Volia! You should have working MMS.
Now, I freely admit that there are numerous places to go wrong here, but this is what worked perfectly for me. If you have trouble, tell me and I'll try to help. Also, check out this thread for general flashing reference. Viper is an expert at these kinds of projects.
Happy flashing!

Flashing between major, independent carriers is illegal. Legally we can only flash between MNVOs.

It wants your MSL/SPC code. Look for the app called SPCUtility.apk in the OP.
I downloaded it from an XDA page by the guy who developed it but I no longer have the URL and don't recall his handle.
It will tell you your subsidy unlock code, at least it did for me on my Moto X and for several other folks with other Android phones.
