LG G2 is very brickable? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been reading here so many of Lg g2 users being brick(software/hardware) . My question is, is G2 that easy to brick ? Or those who got bricked are just the minority? I still have my gnex for 2 years and that one is so hard to brick unless you're so dumb. Fortunately I have not bricked my g2 yet coz I have been very careful. But I am still very paranoid about this. Thanks

Yes that's what I thought. It is mostly cause by user error. Thanks
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk

I've been thinking the same as well,

I don't consider myself noob, I have been rooting phones for the past 6 years and never bricked one, until the LG G2(sprint). I tried every one of the ways to get it working on XDA as well as searched the internet for 3 days. I couldn't un-brick it. Luckily, I was able to get a replacement, but until there's more confirmed success stories of Sprint users un-bricking, this baby will remain stock.

honestly, i think a large part of the issue is the fact that the G2 XDA troubleshooting forums are all integrated instead of broken into its different variants. people seem to constantly be using the wrong files or methods for their variants.

Sorry but i dont know your story. If you look at the posts you see: help brick brick brick!!! But maybe 1 out of 100 is really a brick.... If not less. The rest are all recoverable.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk

What do you think the definition of brick is?
I think its when phone will not turn on as in can not get to download mode. Then there is of course soft brick which is when the phone will not boot to the rom. Either freezes on boot or bootloops. Opinions welcomed......

Did you tried doing a hardware reset. Hold down power and volume down. Then go through on screen steps. The reason I say this is because everytime I would kdz my phone it would bootloop. Hard reset fixed it everytime.

to me, there's a hard brick and soft brick. hard brick is when you no longer have download mode. or when you have corrupted your partitions and have no way to fix them. a soft brick is when you can get to recovery but are having problems flashing roms or going back to stock. soft bricks are fixable by searching the internet for fixes or using tools that take you back to stock. hard bricks are much harder and require more knowledge about the hardware. only a couple people i know can actually get you operational from a hard brick and they normally reside in the #lg-g2 irc channel.

your laptop or pc not recognizing your phone or having problems communicating with it is in my experience almost always a driver problem. i'd look at upgrading or changing my drivers.

i didnt have any problems with my verizon lg g2 never bricked the only thing that happened was when i backed up stock it said it was encrypted but a reboot fixed it right up but i havent been flash happy im running cyanfox and it works just fine

I tried everything. I eventually went to the Sprint Store with my tail between my legs and was completely honest with the tech. I told him I rooted my phone, and was running a custom rom before the boot loop started. He said he would take a look and would let me know. He wasn't able to fix it. This tech seemed familiar with rooting as he mentioned his S4 was rooted. If I had to guess why I couldn't return to stock, I think it was a driver issue. The computer never really seemed to recognize my device. Doesn't matter now, as I have a replacement device and don't plan on wasting time trying to recover my phone, stock will do.... for now

well a brick is a brick. you can not turn a brick into a phone. so, a bricked phone means dead not recoverable. Not "I cant recover it, therefore its a brick"
soft brick is also a term made up.
people can easily say, not booting, rebooting or whatever.
today, every error is brick
is the same as what happened with "APP"

People are whoring the "brick" word way too much around these forums.
If you can turn on your phone or get some kind of response from it, it is not bricked.

Stock recovery restore for Mac

Hey guys,
Ive searched high and low and couldn't find anything other than this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317795
I recently restored from nandroid backup to stock TW and then did a factory reset.
Two things:
When I reboot the phone it still has the "Custom" and lock icon. I thought that doing a factory reset removed root. I cannot access titanium backup or SuperSU. Ideas?
Secondly and most importantly, I cannot boot into recovery. I use the power and volume up button and see it say "booting recovery" but then it automatically reboots and loads TW. I cannot use the method above because I do not have a PC to run odin. Any help would be much appreciated.
Edit: Forgot to mention I had TWRP installed.

Thanks so much. I downloaded heimdall. Is there a guide anywhere so I can make sure I am using it correctly. I read through the readme.txt but another guide couldn't hurt.
Also I cannot find a 32gb pit file. :crying:

I am not aware heimdall is usable on the S4 yet. May be wrong. But, I have an iMac and when looking for an Odin replacement found no mention of it working on S4 and Adam mentioned it didn't. Don't remember the date of that comment though. People recommend using it when possible. Fortunately I have a pc available. Interested in knowing if anything has changed--

yeah, i am confused on it too. conflicting posts around web. saw on one site someone did use odin, but i was not sure how. seemed like all he had to do was use the factory usb cable. i wasn't buying that.
I think to be safe i would partition your mac with windows or use a friends for now.
At least until we get a good step by step from someone and confirmed by others.

I agree it is conflicting.. I would definitely give it a shot if my phone needed it.. That's kind of why I was steering him towards casual and try to reroot and reinstall a custom recovery.. I have a dual boot setup for windows 8 and Ubuntu so yeah it might be worth dual booting to use Odin if you have a copy of windows or using a friends computer

Thank a ton guys. I actually got stock recovery back late last night. I ended up plugging my s4 in and starting up kies and there happened to be the latest firmware available (because I had factory reset my phone). So i ran that and that restored recovery!. The phone is in proper working condition. The one last thing is the phone is still in custom status with the custom icon on the boot screen. Any ideas on how to remove it without being rooted?

haven't done anything with Keis, it messes with Android File Transfer
but, maybe Keis doesn't go far enough in flashing firmware like Odin would

G4 bootloop problem - poll

Hello, this poll is all about to find out how many people having bootloop problem in their g4 beyond their capacity to solve or beyond their acknowledgement why this situation happened in the first place. I myself is a sufferer for this. And I see there are some other people also who are having such issues but cannot solve the problem. Many of them do not apply warrenty policy. So some serious help needed here. So this poll will do 2 things:
1. How many people having bootloop problem that isn't solved by now.
2. What was the software condition (broadly) in their devices.
I am not a big fan of polling. But I believe this is a way to gain attraction of the important people who can solve the problem. Plus many can be aware of what they should and should not do with their devices i.e. unlocking bootloader, rooting, flashing international rom or custom rom etc. In that faith, let's start.

That's what I thought at first. but more n more I am getting to know about the fact, it's actually a hardware issue and it's LG's fault, not users.

H815 Euro BL Unlocked, flashed H81520A via zips and now Bootlooping at LG Logo , no access to TWRP
I have been digging the issue. What I found is
1. A good number of people are having the problem.
2. Provided solution: Changing the motherboard or Replacement of the device
3. Rumour: G4's before September 2015 have major design flaws. Sprint has been pulling in all their devices and giving replacement of the complained devices or offering other devices.
(I have attached screenshots of a community of Sprint users)
If this is real, why we people have to be sufferer? Those who cannot claim warrenty or have unlocked bootloader will do what? In my screenshots, u will find that, some sprint guy saying that it's a known issue. If it's a known issue, why not LG addressing it publicly and helping the buyers?
I have compiled some xda screenshots also to address the severity of the problem.

My phone suddenly boot looped yesterday while using google map navigation.
Was using rooted H815_V10E system image http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/h815-eu-l-p-t-sea-twn-t3176195 .
I went from original H815 sea 10a to OTA 10b to original H815 eu 10e kdz to rooted H815 eu 10e system image.
I dropped the phone at least 20times?
I installed original xposed apk on my phone but it says it wasnt supported around 1 month ago from the app itself. I didnt do anything after that.
But yesterday , i click the uninstall button in xposed app in the morning and phone suddenly boot looped in the afternoon. Download mode works , kdz original sea 10b, still boot loop. Tried to kdz original eu 10e , but download mode didnt work , hard brick

Same issue here. Can anyone confirm this works? The quote above seems a little fishy. Butchiboy's provided link (see his og post above) is an application for Mega and I don't want to have to create an account for something that might not work.
Its not an application for Mega. Mega is an app that you use to share apk's or files. Its like Google drive. You dont have to create an account its a app thats free in the playstore..nothing fishy about it..all you have to do is use your email and create a password for the app. Once you grab the file delete the app...just trying to help..but hey if you dont wanna use it then dont

If you check my profile you will see I am no noob..would not post something thats "Fishy"...many developers that post roms..apks..themes..use Mega its just a app from the playstore..this is the reason why I really dont visit XDA to often but rather a developers private site..instead of saying thanks or sending PM asking you tag something as "Fishy"..but when you try it and your back up and running I hope you enjoy your Tablet...oh I forgot to add you need to grab the boot file that allows you to root the T337A and flash that 1st..but I will not post that..just a heads up

Hey sorry I guess I didn't realize the way I asked that. My apologies =(
I followed your fix and it worked! Thank you so much haha. Thanks for sure.
Yeah mega is best cloud storage in my opinion..... other clouds have like 10gb space for free users but mega has 50 gb, and in e.g dropbox that much would cost money

hello, can any one help me fix this massage too, my tab 4 does the same - "System Software Not Authorized by AT&T has been found on your tablet. Please turn off your tablet and go to the nearest AT&T store for help" massage and its not rooted or anything at all.. i just got it as a gift.. its an att Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (8.0) SM-T337A. I was running it stock with out any root changes and all the soddenly one day it just went blank and after rebooting the massage show up... any help is welcome.
The fix is for Lollipop. If the tablet was upgraded to Lollipop and someone tried to root it thats why that message appears. If its not Lollipop I dont believe it will work.

thanks a lot it worked for me... after few attempts it finally did its job and reboot just like was before, the only thing i lost all my data.. but not a big dial.. defiantly thanks to Butchiboy's and Cocafocus help.
Glad everything worked out for you
SM-T337A..Lollipop (damn ATT locked bootloader)
i keep trying this and it keeps freezing on me ;/ any suggestions?
Nevermind I fixed it, I didn't relive I had the tablet hooked into a USB hub lol
**this worked on my at&t tab 4 8.0 t337a**
Is there a better root method that won't piss at&t off lol

Why would you use a one click root? It's not very difficult to root using the actual method to obtain root. Props to the dev of one click root apps, but if u ask me, if you want root do it yourself. Less of a chance you will mess up and if you do manage to mess up you know what u did and that's just not the case with one click root apps.

They have a locked bootloader so custom kernels and custom recoveries simply aren't an option. So they have to use whatever works, which is usually a one click root app (or in sometimes a full-blown pre-rooted firmware, but nobody's made one of those for this device)
Not that I disagree with you outright. If one has a device with an unlocked bootloader, it's always better to do it right, rather than these sketchy one-click root apps. But people with AT&T or Verizon devices have completely locked down bootloaders, so they don't have much of a choice. I've been missing CM on my phone (AT&T branded) I finally snapped and bought myself an international model

Oh I gotcha. That makes sence. So is there no way to unlock the bootloader AT&T or verizon? I have a HTC Desire 510 from cricket that had a locked bootloader but was able to get a unlock token from HTC. Most difficult phone I had to root in terms of being tedious and the time it took lol. I have rooted my tab 4 and my s4 before screen broke, both of which were straightforward and pretty simple, but never had AT&T or Verizon. I wonder why they have locked bootloader without having a way to unlock it like my HTC. Anyways thanks for your response, I always enjoy learning new things about android and software/hardware in general. Also do you have chrome on ur phone, if you do does it auto update with out permission. Mine just started doing this a few days ago.
I can confirm sm-t337a unauthorized software boot msg

Hi everyone...
I'm new to Android and iBones (sic), I'm more of an old school PC "CounterStrike/Team Fortress/Half-Life" type.
Anyhow, I got myself in the same position as the others here with the AT&T branded Tab 4s. I can see how easy it is to get into that position now, as I like exploring, or doing something just because I'm told I can't.
As for the fix posted here, it works. I was even surprised that all my apps were still there, minus pics, porn and movies. Uhhh, did I say porn?
The only thing that scared me was how easy and fast it was. It's nice to catch a break now and again!
Props to butchieboy!!!
I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 (SM-T537A) 5.1.1 and did kingroot this morning to remove all the ADS, my word the ads... Anyway got that message Secure Fail: Kernel after rebooting - Sorry to say this method did NOT work for me. Is it because I have a 10.1 (SM-T537A)? Any suggestions? Thanks and I will keep looking digging.

Bricked my XT1580 UK N
Hey XDA Developers
I admit i am an idiot!
I tried to root my XT1580 with a tutorial (not able to post link) and of course i bricked my phone big time. Is there a nice developer wich would try to help me flash a stock rom to my phone and hopefully make it boot again?
I used: twrp-2.8.7.0-kinzie.img
And SuperSU v2.65
I now downloaded Stock Marshmallow 6.0.0 /// XT1580_KINZIE_RETMX_DS_6.0_MPK24.78-8_cid12_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip as i tought this would be the fiting stock rom for this device and region i live (Switzerland) but i am not very shure how to do it and i just dont want to destroy my belved xt1580 more than it allready is.
I am happy for any response.
Best Regards

i tried with the same again and one time more with a difference version of TWRP and SuperSU. still no change

stock recovery.img would be flashed same as twrp.img
fastboot flash recovery.img
stock recovery.img is in the stock firmware xml.zip
just unzip
or just flash firmware with RSD Lite, just need to be sure that it's for your model, region and carrier.
I'm not sure how many options are available

Hello,
I need some info on the chinese XT1581.
Is the bootloader unlockable? root? Are there any custom roms available for this device?
The only difference is the dual-sim?
Has anybody experience with this device?

I know I'm going to regret this and I probably already do so here goes:
I picked up a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 off craigslist tonight, traded another phone for it (LG Stylo 2 Plus) and everything was working fine during the actual meeting with the previous owner. He checked out the Stylo while I checked out the Turbo 2. Aside from scuffs and scrapes and whatnot I decided it was worth the trade - he said he was moving to Europe and just wouldn't need it anymore and he then showed me his Moto X Force (first time I'd ever seen one in person, verified it with the phone info, etc) and I figured what the hell, I'm good.
So he leaves, and me having not messed with a Verizon device for some time figured "Ok, I know all the Verizon devices are GSM unlocked from the factory since the summer of 2013 because of the FCC frequency auctions, no problem..." and then I power down and remove the T-Mobile nanoSIM from my Moto X 1st gen and power down the Turbo 2, etc, moving the nanoSIM over.
Power the Turbo 2 back up and of course I get the "SIM Card not from Verizon Wireless..." notification which I've seen in the past. I go into Settings and then set it for Global mode and... nothing, still doesn't work. Check the About phone info, it sees the nanoSIM, doesn't pull the APN data from the card so I put it in manually, still nothing. Reboot, still nothing, and so on and so forth.
I do some research and find out that Verizon - since some point in 2015 - now sells their devices technically unlocked for GSM operation but there's some funky network-specific lock on them for at least 1 year after the sale/purchase of the device so they guarantee they get something back on their investment. I called the previous owner, asked him what the deal was, he said he bought it December 1st 2015 and because he was moving that was that and it wasn't his problem anymore.
So yeah, I'm probably screwed on this for use with T-Mobile now but I figured I'd ask here anyway: not looking to rip anybody off but, I don't use Verizon, never have, never will, and I don't even know anyone that uses them either so I'm not sure how to proceed. In the good old days you could do the 4-corner trick and bypass the need to activate the phone with Verizon but obviously nothing is that simple anymore.
Is there any way to get this device up and running with T-Mobile since it should be unlocked? I called Verizon and they said because I'm not the original owner/purchaser (neither is the guy I got it from, apparently he got it used himself earlier this year) they won't provide me whatever info or method is required to make it truly GSM unlocked as it's supposed to be so I'm stuck there.
It's not blacklisted, at least that Verizon would tell me, nor stolen from what I gather - I checked the ESN against several sites like Swappa and CheckESNFree and it shows green/clear/ready for activation and yet it's just not happening.
Any advice or suggestions or straight out method to get past that aspect and make it work properly with T-Mobile is greatly appreciated if anyone can help.
If I end up using it as a Wi-Fi only device, so be it, but that wasn't the idea when I got it - my mistake was not doing research ahead of time on this new device. I've owned several Droid MAXX/Ultra/Mini smartphones - all Verizon devices of course - and never had to deal with this activation BS, I just put my T-Mobile SIM card in them and rebooted and wham, always worked without problems.
I should have known it wouldn't be that simple anymore.

S6+'s last chance before i drop it in battery acid

So randomly my phone a few weeks ago just shut off.. Thinking the battery died i put it on the charger to see it go in some stupid boot loop with "custom binary blocked by frp lock"
What i have tried is the following:
Odin - loaded new software on it same thing happened couldn't get past the custom binary blocked by frp lock
Downloaded Kies and Smart switch tried that both... same thing again custom binary blocked by frp lock
Took it to a Samsung repair place and they couldn't get past the custom binary blocked by frp lock...
so im posting this up as a last chance kinda thing before i take it to school Monday and drop it in battery Acid.
Thx.

Use samfirmtool(available at xda) because it downloads latest firmware for spesific region. Odin stock should fix this(have seen it did in many cases), yet you should google it 'how to bypass frp lock on note 5' there are few ways through these youtube videos etc. Good luck.
Edit: Sorry I thought this is note 5 forum lol. But shoud be same process.

Won't go to the startup screen. After I do the fresh install it loads then just goes back into Bootloop with the same msg.
As for the pixel, Awesome! I couldn't deal with this phone **** any longer so I just renewed my phone contract and got the Pixel XL
Amazing battery life - 14-17h on charge
Did a full day of screen on with heavy use got over 5hours.
Charges so quick.
Camera is amazing
4k screen is awesome too, so many features with this phone.

Okay try using the older Odin version to flash MarshMallow now. Worth a shot lol.
Happy New Years
Dropping it into battery acid or destroying it seems like such a waste lol. Honestly I'd love to take a crack at it I love bypassing software & such.
