hello thank you all so much in advance. I'm a noob but have searched everwhere & no answers. I may have to do a custom Rom but which one? problem is can't tether. I'm with straight talk in the US on an unlocked rooted Samsung 6102 running gingerbread 2.3.6. I believe what is happening I can't change the APN type to dun, my only options are internet & mms, even if I try to set another APN, any fixes? have tried all tether apps for rooted phones that I could find, with no help.
I'm sorry folks,I'm not finding the answer. everything that I've searched for is not working on my phone. is there anybody that can help? thank you.

Greetings all,
I used to have an HTC TYTN, and successfully flashed custom ROMs on it, although it required a lot of work. I recently purchased a HTC Hero, and am interested in rooting it, but I had a few questions for those of you capable of answering...
I live in Alaska, we do not have any major carriers up here except AT&T, so I have to use a local carrier called ACS - Alaska Communications Systems.
I wanted to know if anyone knew of a custom ROM or a way to set up a ROM to use that carrier. When I flashed my TYTN, I had to go back in and custom set a BUNCH of stuff with the help of another ACS customer who had a TYTN. The Sprint ROM I used set up things wrong - changed settings for data and such.
Secondly, I wanted to know if there is a way to root the phone without using a custom ROM? I've looked around briefly, but the 3 guides I've looked at all used a custom ROM.
Thanks in advance guys, and sorry if my questions seems stupid.
yea, you HAVE to root the phone to install a custom rom. So you can run a stock rom rooted. Someone else will have to help you with the setting up of the data on the phone. talk/text should be decently simple. MSL number probably needs to be set to 000000 and then a prl loaded for the provider you are using. Data will probably be a lot harder..
No, not yet. The problem is that it's using the older 2.6.27 kernel but it's patched for the known exploits. Keep an eye on the Droid Eris root status thread.
The Droid Eris is very similar to the HTC Hero and it's running the same kernel. Whatever exploit they find for root on the Eris should work on Alaska DigiTel or ACS versions of the Hero but of course there's no guarantee.
[Told this by someone else; new to this rooting scene]
Just to clarify... You don't NEED to root your phone to get your phone on the carrier you are using. All that is required is changing your MSL number and uploading your carriers PRL. Entering in the correct EPST settings could probably get your data working as well.. MMS and probably a host of other things will be a problem. NONE of this requires you to root your phone.
I thought Alaska Com sold the Hero...so its not like you are buying a Sprint one and taking it on their network are you?
If its an Alaska Com Hero - All of your stuff will work. However, I doubt our Asroot2 exploit works on it. I think the other Hero owners on networks other than sprint have been using the "gold card" method...and I have NO clue how to do that. I know you have to make a special SD card. But you should be able to load any of the hero roms since they don't mess with those carrier settings.
Search the sub-forum for GoldCard.
I wrote a guide on how to root with the GoldCard.
Just search my threads.
I apologize if this has already been discussed. I couldn't find a solution when I searched the issue.
My problem is exactly what the title states. I can't get tether or wifi to work on any ROM since updating to 2.2. I used toast's method of rooting prior to 2.2 and I've always run Damage Control ROM until RC1 was realeased for Cyanogen Mod. I'm currently running RC2 and this is the only issue to speak of. Any insight on what might be causing this is greatly appreciated.
sent from my machine of the future...
i had this problem turned out i had to restart my router, my problem that it would not connect to any network that required a password to get on
Help Does any one have a updated rom besides damagecontrol? that rom is unstable now but i love it cus the mms and everything works no problem other roms work but no mms ..
dam no1 knows ne other roms??? were mms works?
I thought that mms was broke on a lot of other roms as well. But really its something borked on your phone. I searched and search for the answer to fix it but couldn't find one.
Damage 8.1 was the only rom that mms worked for me. Till yesterday.
I flashed an official rom then re rooted. Nandroid. Now mms works on all the roms that don't list it as a problem.
Hope this might help you.
Edit. This might be the problem created long ago that is still messed up on your phone somehow.

I think I have this problem too after I tried (unsuccessfully) to root my phone. Now I can only get some networks (Tmobile & Orange) but not my network (Talkmobile, which piggybacks Vodafone). I've been googling around about this for a while and I think it may be that I need to cahange my baseband. Current ver is EPU93_U_00.60.03. But I don't know how to do this. Any help to a noobe would be much appreciated...

You could try with Baseband Switcher 4, and select your baseband...Then you have to set the APN.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. How do I install it.....? without a rooted phone....
I have an LG G2 that was originally for T-Mobile. I unlocked it and put my father's sim card inside (ATT) and he can text/call without any problems, its his data (mobile network) that isnt working. Is there settings I need to change to get the data to work and if so where are they located and what information I need to put there.
Ive been looking for a while now and google isnt any help lol.
It is rooted, it has clean-rom installed (the latest one, I think that is 1.3 and in the setup I put T-Mobile as it is a T-Mobile phone). If I have to re-install the clean-rom to ATT settings will that do it? If not will stock firmware make it work?
Hope to hear from you guys soon! My dad want to use this phone lol. THanks again!
In the settings under Network I just noticed it says under Mobile network state "Disconnected".
Nevermind sorry! I was able to find the APN settings finally and was able to find ATT apn codes.
Thanks again, please close

That is the EXACT same story with my sister's phone I did for her. I spent hours on the phone with ATT after I unlocked it and they put in the code but still no luck. Any suggestions? Thank you!
