Hey all, I just got my new Note3 in the post today.
First thing i did was turn it on and update to KK 4.4.2, so my device is not knox triggered and completely stock atm.
I don't want any custom rom yet but i do want to root it.
I've seen that a couple of safe methods to root stopped working since KK update.
What would be the best and most safe way for me to root my N-9005 (i have the european version)
Thanks in advance !
Cheers

Can't safely root and keep KNOX once you're on KK. - There's plenty of threads with this exact same question
---------- Post added at 07:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:45 AM ----------
If you wanna root regardless, use CF-Autoroot - it'll trip KNOX
Thanks for the tip.
Ill just do a CF root than

that mj7 is a kitkat?
so i'll take as i dont have to do any ota update if i want to be able to flash anything, or at 99% it will upgrade to an unrootable version?
I don't think anyone was able to root a kitkat-updated Note 3
so my advice is to root before flashing anything, I've updated to kitkat immediately as I got my phone so I can't root
anyways,

If you get a Note 3 with one of the early bootloaders, it can be rooted without tripping KNOX. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498850
If you are running MJ4 higher you can still root, but you will trip KNOX.
Kitkat cannot be rooted without tripping Knox,
But you can run stock kitkat with Knox intact.
still no change I take it on this topic?
is the GS5 like the N3 with knox ???????
If i'd of know I would of gone for the nexus 5, what a ball ache.
Shame on Samsung
they had the S5 rooted in 1 day! and its much simpler then the note 3. this is the vid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMWzMbM5SCk. im actually asking him atm can I run the same thing on the note 3 as it seems less difficult to root S5 with knox then root Note 3 with Knox!
Kernel version is june 24th and I have an Sm-G900W8 on Wind mobile. I've tried towelroot but it didn't work.

Okay back, food in hand.
You didn't ask for details, but no doubt you'd like to have them regardless.

There have been reports that a recent OTA update has patched CVE-2014-3153 (closed the towel root exploit).
You should be able to use Odin to revert to a stock firmware build date prior to June 3rd. Then towel root will work and your Knox flag should remain at 0x0.
It's not an issue per se with the S5, but do not attempt to downgrade to JB (pre 4.3) as Samsung set a qfuse to block that. With such an attempt tending to brick phones.

If I downgrade via Odin, will I risk bricking my phone? And is the samsung-updates site good for downloading firmware?

Any time you use Odin, you run a small risk of bricking a phone. You are writing critical system files and any glitch or power interruption could have dramatic consequences. But writing the correct stock firmware for your S5 /carrier doesn't add any extra or undue risk.
In the future Samsung might add a qfuse for this method. But as of today it works fine and quite a few people have done it successfully.

Do you mean that downgrading from official stock firmware by carrier provider going back to previous version also official stock firmware will be successful?
Currently I'm in 6.0.1 marshmallow, can I download to KitKat directly? or should I go to lollipop first before going to kitkat?
Is this still possible at present?

You do not have to walk the path back, just flash KitKat in ODIN and all will be fine

if your phone can handle mobile odin than your ready to go
Not that I'm aware of, afaik CF Auto Root is the only method for Lollipop, If you'd been on KitKat you could have used Towelroot
Not know anyone else with a PC you could borrow?

He'd need to be already rooted for Mobile ODIN to allow flashing a ROM, and it doesn't work on Lollipop anyway last time I checked

Hi Everyone,
I did a little thread cleaning. Please remember to always post respectfully and that there is nothing wrong with walking away from an argument...or reporting and issue and then walking away from it. It is really easy for things to be misconstrued and then an argument (or worse) breaks out.
Thanks!
Is it necessary to give flash CF auto root????? Yesterday i went official rom of samsung galaxy s5 and rooted also with out CF auto root. I face a problem. I didn't use mooded play store.... It was crashing...... please tell me something........
Go to a website and download host editor
Then enter the app after download and press and hold the 2 different bars

Need root
Hello, before now i have rooted htc my touch 4g and moto razr xt912 i have also installed a couple of roms on both those phones so i am familiar with rooting and installing roms.
But I had no idea that rooting and installing roms on galaxy s5 will be this tricky so please bear with me as i tell you guys what i know so far. So i know that geohot's towelroot apk isn't working on my phone because it is of a higher firmware right? So what i need to do is downgrade my phone to a version that makes the towelroot apk work right?
The things I'm having major issues understanding are what is samsung knox exactly? also what is the full form of NE9 and N12? I also realize that i cant install clockword mod recovery so what should i use to back up the current rom on my phone incase i mess up?
Please point out if I'm asking the wrong questions and any and all help is very much appreciated so thanks in advance.
I'm guessing your not using a dev edition s5 so your bootloader is locked and also guessing your on the nk2 build (find in settings/about phone...), correct?
---------- Post added at 01:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:41 PM ----------
Also what is your end goal? Ex. Looking to be rooted on lollipop with the native tether app working. If so you simply need to downgrade your kernel, use towel root v3, install busy box then safestrap, update SU and re flash the kernel you started with. That will bring you right back to where you are now but with root and ability to make a back up. Detailed explanation with software links found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
---------- Post added at 01:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:52 PM ----------
Just scroll down to "How to root NK2" and follow the instructions step by step. All the links for the software you need are below that. Just make sure you have a copy of the kernel you have now to flash back to after your done with the downgrade, root, and safestrap install. Also don't worry to much about screwing up Odin is going to be your new best friend and there is a copy of the original software on that page to restore your phone from a softbrick

Well my build appears to be n12 and yes the bootloader is locked on my verizon galaxy s5.
I'm looking to root my phone and remove all verizon apps and try the roms that are available. So how can i downgrade my kernel and back up my current rom? do i have to use odin? is there a specific version of odin software for galaxy s5?
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Start with following that link I gave you and get rooted install busy box and safestrap then up date your SU and flash back to your existing kernel make a backup and you can go from there with no fear ...

The correct order would be get root with towelroot, install supersu from playstore, update it's binaries. Reboot, then install busybody and lastly safestrap.
Yes and no I prefer to use safestrap to install the SU update rather than playstore which you will find in the instructions I provided with the link ... just follow them explicitly and you will find a quick and easy solution to your request ... not to mention the fight with fc you have to endeavor to do it his way ... but I digress. Don't take it from just me, follow the links instructions and ask any questions you need to along the way

Newbee with a question
Hi, I'm Maypo1, Ihope I'm not out of line in this forum, but I read it and have 1 question. I have an S5 SM-900V Kit Kat 4.4.4 with firmware ending in ANK7,because I had a fat thumb and mistakenly downloaded the first of 2 downloads to Lollypop. ? does this screw up my chances of downgrading and rooting to N12 or NGC I have already downloaded odin 3.10, and both roms from SamMobile on my laptopand am ready to try this all out.
Thank's in advance Maypo1

If your on 4.2.2 then stay on it. Btw you can root and have a custom recovery on sm-g530. The bootloader is locked on 5.1.1 which definitely decreases the chance for custom recovery.
G530az is what I have the root method for the g530 I'm not sure will work. At least no one has said it will

I have not seen any evidence that the bootloader is unlocked on the kitkat firmware for the G530AZ as I have not seen any custom rom or recovery for it either I am currently on 5.1.1 but I would like to see what your talking about on the kitkat firmware where would one find custom recovery and such for this variant on kitkat?

On my old s4 and s5 knox came preloaded but i can't find the knox apk on my grand prime. I'm not a newb when it comes to this but i have seen maybe 2 people say they have root without using kingroot and I'm not doing that. I guess I'll wait till we get a revovery. If I could find the source code I could compile a rom but i have never even tried a recovery. I guess I just want the easy way out.

Well their is a recovery already for 5.1.1 but it fails the security checks that are in place unfortunately so its dead in the water for this variant unless someone that is uber dev can figure out how the heck to unlock it lol.

Ahh i see, well if its like 5.1.1 at all knox is there but you cant really access it, I have been messing around with some of the sql databases and have found some things of interest and also they lead me to believe that their is some kind of variation of knox installed but, you can use triangle away from the app store to fool odin mode and the device into believing your running stock however when you try to do update from the update settings in the device it catches it there, but still nothing changes on the reboot splash screen etc. oddly enough.
Yeah that's not me. I don't know how different building a recovery is from a kernel or rom but as I said I have never even tried.
