[Q] Lenovo Ideapad a10 internal storage question - Thinkpad Tablet General

I know this little laptop has 16gb internal storage, but I only have 800mb worth of apps and it says there is no more space (shows 11gig free under storage settings)
any way to increase the internal app storage?, I have rooted it using VRoot and installed superuser.
if app storage can't be increased then looks like i will be returning it to amazon..............would be a shame as it is a handy little android laptop.

Yes it has 1GB of Internal storage or RAM, and 12GB on the NAND flash storage. So the RAM memory must be getting full.
The solution for me after rooting was to uninstall pre-installed apps I do not or rarely use and to move my large apps to SD if movable. The best app I have found that accomplishes all of these is Clean Master. It does manage memory very well as well, plus it is free on the Play Store.
This Lenovo Laptop/tablet is definitely a keeper for me, even though the screen resolution let it down a bit. My 18month old Ipad - at twice the cost of this Lenovo Ideapad- has been lying unused and will soon be on eBay since I could barely multitask on it.
Good luck.

Good ideas, thanks for the suggestions.
I have just ordered a 32gig sd card from amazon and i have also downloaded Clean Master as you recommended.
I am now going of to the store to find an app to uninstall the pre-installed apps.
As you say the screen resolution is a bit disappointing, but I will give all your suggestions a go and use it for a week with the sd card and see if I can get used to it.
thanks

Grant root access to Clean Master and it will uninstall pre-installed apps and alert when a newly installed app can be moved to SD.

Excellent, my 32gb came this morning (amazon prime) and I have managed to free uo loads of space. I installed move2sd enabler, it will even move apps to sd that normally don't have this option! awesome!
Last question........can i get full screen? when playing a game or reading a magazine the task bar is always there, can I temp remove it?

Install an app called Fullscreen. There is a free version and a plus paid version in Play Store. I find the free version adequate for my needs

How much ram do you have after all apps gone?

I have 108M with only Android Live, com.google.android, launcher, taskiller.
What do all of you have?

The N1 has 512MB but is not available until 2.2.
From what I've read we will receive a ram boost with the first update
hopefully thats not all that will be updated in the next patch.
How do you check RAM usage? I can only find my ROM usage/Internal capacity, in the Running services setting.
Doesn't really matter.. hence they don't tell you. Ideally you want almost all memory used because that's the most efficient.. if they put a value up there then people start getting OCD about maximimising unused memory instead of letting the OS do the opposite.
Does the nexus has the same issue as the original diamond whereby if you installed so many apps it would run out of memory ? I can no longer use my youtube app on the diamond as it requests at least 8Mb of memory!
I always get this message:
There is not enough free storage space to run YouTube. Minimum free storage space required is 8MB

Not being that tech savvy i'm always confused how memory is allocated on the diamond as i still have about 1.5Gb on the "storage card", 28.70MB on the program tab of "main memory" and 7.74MB on the storage tab on main memory!
Why couldn't they just allocate the whole "storage card" to the phone apps etc ?
Essentially i'm asking is the nexus prone to running out of "memory" even though it may have a 32Gb mico SD card with copious amount of room left for apps etc ?
Forgive me if i'm getting totally confused with ram/rom/storage memory!!
cheers for any help.
hope to be a nexus owner soon.
Memory is not the same as storage space. Look at it as you would RAM on your pc. You don't get more RAM if you get a bigger harddrive, right?
It's the same on the phone, it doesn't matter how big of a SDcard you put in it, the memory used for running apps is the same.
And no, I'm pretty certain you will not get the same problems with the Nexus as you've had with your diamond.
cheers SBS........

HOw much mem do u have free atm
213MB total
27.72MB Free
A lot of people misunderstand how the memory is used, its best to keep all your regularly used apps running and in memory. I pretty much don't force close anything.
So the ram will double up (+ few more) with the next update?
^ yes, this is a limitation of the current kernel, its being fixed and will be pushed in the next update.
yes our phones will run even better soon

More memory

I'm sure this will have been asked before but I can't find the answer.
Can I physically put more memory in my galaxy? I love this phone and the features are great but I always have to be careful what I install due to getting low memory, I have frozen a few apps I rarely use and uninstalled othersi can live without, now my memory free averages at about 70mb. I dont want a big mem kernel as I use 720p recording a lot and don't want to lose this feature. would love to open this phone and stick in some bigger memory. Please help me

It´s not possible to add more memory, but what would you like to do that requires more memory?

Installing apps doesn't mean you'll "lose" ram and that it wouldn't be usable..and unused ram in Linux is wasted ram. Check out some posts about Android memory management, search for LMK, minfree. And keep in mind that Android isn't windows what comes to ram etc..
ps. 70MB of free ram is surely enough for lagfree system..

I have been playing APE lossless audio files in power amp and I have been getting glitches in the audio, once I clear the memory they play perfectly until memory goes under about 45mb then the glitches come back, also some navigation software runs better with more memory, can you tell me why it is not possible, can the memory be accessed and removed without damage to the device?

Memory Problem

Hey everyone I got an atrix for Christmas and I've already run out of application memory. Is that possible? Also I only have 10 gb of internal storage I don't know where the rest of it went. I'll post a screenshot

Yes it is. You have a limited amount of storage for applications. On your phone you have 1.41 GB. Once that is used you have no more room to install apps. Now you also a limited amount for storage for things such as pictures, videos, documents, etc. On your phone it is 10.71 GB. I know what your saying; that is only 12.12 GB. Where is the rest of my 16 GB of internal storage? The other 3.88 GB is where the android OS is stored. It is like a computer. Your harddrive may be 250 GB, but you don't see the full 250 GB because some of the storage space it is hidden since the OS is stored on it.
I didn't think this was possible. How many apps do you have?
Thanks for all the quick response and I think I get it now thank you! And I have about 20-25 apps including shadowgun which is something like 250 MB

You are messing things:
There are several kinds of memory on your phone:
1. RAM partition- its 1GB, which actually you can use 815 MB.
2. ROM partition- Where the OS is stored. its something about 1-2GB.
3. Osh partition- a partition dedicated to the webtop. about 1GB.
4. Apps partition- Where the apps are installed. about 2 GB.
5. Internal storage partition- Where you store all kind of things, like a HDD in a computer. this memory you see when you connect your device to a computer. you have about 10.7 GB.
6. SD card- additional storage memory. external SD card to enhance your storage. its size depends on how generous you are.
Now, apps are being installed in No 4, and generally the heaviesr apps are something like 50 MB tops. to fill your apps memory you will have to install a whole lot of apps, surely more then 30 apps (for instance I have 140 apps installed, including some really heavy apps like shadowgun, MC3, IGO, World of goo and some other, and my apps memory has 1.14GB of free space).
The 250MB data of shadowgun is located generally in the storage memory, and this can run out on you, if you have a lot of music or movies, after all it has 10 GB which is quite a lot.
In your case it seems that you have plenty of memory avalable, both for apps and for general storage...
Hope it clarified something...
Edit:
Changed the word 'Memroy' to 'partition'.

I would avoid using the word memory in these cases, partition is more appropriate.

Low storage since 4.1.2

How can this be? 16g Nexus, only 7g used. Only 3 free?
Mine did the same thing. Any clues out there ?

Install DiskUsage to quickly go through your storage by size. If you have root, you can use it for your system partitions as well.
That's a great app ! Been using it for years it seems... In the OP there's a picture. The picture shows a gray bar that's supposedly only 3 GB's. The visual representation of space available is incorrect in the picture and on my device also.

I've seen the same thing on mine, it's neglecting certain files/folders when making out what's using the storage, but the free storage number is usually correct.
I think in my case, my titanium backups weren't added in the equation. I moved them to an external mSD and since then it's been accurate.
Having the same problem since installing 4.1.2. Went from 5.5 gb free to 791 mb. Searched for a while but I can't find anything causing it. Glad you posted this, I was thinking of resetting back to stock and setting everything up again.
Ok, I hooked up to my computer and confirmed 13g and 3 free on Win 7.
The problem is I dont have 10g of files. I have one movie @ 4g and and 2g of music. I have checked the size of all folders on the sd and the numbers don't add up.
13-6=7 not 3 thats being shown. A significant difference!
I just found 2g in the clockworkmod folder. I did a backup prior to the 4.1.2 install. The blob folder is 2g. Can I delete it safely?
Yup, you could also move it over to pc just in case you'd ever need it.
Like I said, backups don't tend to get recognized by storage use, but DiskUsage shows em nice and clear

16gb Nexus 4 only 6gb memory

I have a 16GB Nexus 4, with a few apps etc installed and now have only 6.8GB.
My question is, is it worth moving to Cyanogenmod to get more available memory.
or is there a way to delete some inbuilt files to get more memory.
Also what is the minimum memory the phone will operate on without causing any problems?
Use diskusage to see what's taking up space

minimum memory? There is not a direct science for that. Try slim roms since they cut out a lot of fat out of their roms. Also there are plenty of files that can be removed to save space but you have to do some research and see what you want and dont want. Root explorer is an app that can delete system files if necessary. Slim has it built into their rom.. Not root explorer but similar software
