I have 3 i337m running 4.3 original firmware.One is Bell, 1 Rogers, 1 Telus.
I've tried all the methods I could find that include downgrading, rooting etc. I cannot seem to get access to the UMTS menu.
Is there any method that works ?

Everything Ihave seen, the service menu is hidden in 4.3... I never was able to get to it after the update... I did unlock my s3 before 4.3 but my s4 never got it done... best you can do now is either buy an unlock code on the net or take it to one of the mall kiosks... lots of the guys that sell cases unlock phones too for around $20

Did you try specifically flashing a modem from an older version where it had the service menu? (like the old 4.2.2 modem) and did you try flashing an older one and using RegionLock Away?

Also, the SIM unlock trick does not seem to work on the i337M with the newer MK6 modem. Heck, I even tried it on stock right when I got mine (which was still on MDJ at the time), and it didn't work. But results vary, apparently. Try downgrading to 4.2.2 stock like DeadlySin9 suggested, and see if that will work. If it doesn't, there should be an app out there that can access the hidden Service Menus; I just can't remember the name of it at the moment.

The device does not allow downgrades to 4.2.2 for any carrier firmware. I tried region lock away on 4.3 with no success.

Your not downgrading the firmware, just the modem. You can flash it in your custom recovery

I installed the .zip with cwm recovery but when I checked my modem (baseband) it was mk6 modem, so it was unchanged.

I've never been able to get this to work either. Also related, unlocking will remove LTE, permanently.

Unlocking shouldn't remove LTE. All you have to do is make sure to correct the APN, as it might change, and flash back to your newer modem afterwards.
Are you sure your ODIN drivers are set up right? Try reinstalling/manually updating the drivers. They never like to work very well. You could also try Mobile ODIN since you have an unlocked bootloader.

Locked bootloaders are setup by the networks, not Samsung who don't care. Is it a network branded device? If not it's highly unlikely to have a locked bootloader.

Flash this Custom Kernel and then retry to flash Custom ROM.
I would have suggested Adam Kernel. And yes you need a custom kernel as stock blocks root activation.

hey so ive been doing some research. my rom currently is cm 4.4 kitkat for can variant. the problem is i have 1 bar with lte, ive read that i needed to update my modem with odin. i tried this with the latest file found in the threads and made sure it was for canada. this is the error i got. also i tried flashing my phone with dandroid 4.4 and i actually get no service at all, played with apn settings and nothing. any help here would be awsome.
New edit..
So I figured out what I did wrong in the previous post. But now I have a new question. I have tried to flash my modem to to the most current using Odin
On the computer it said succsssful but the phone said downloading, for maybe like 4 minutes and I did a battery pull. Tried 3 different Roms LTE does not work all. But 3g does any help would be nice
new edit went back on android 4.2.2 and lte works fine. before i flashed the modem i had bad reception with lte on kitkat but now with the current I337MVLUEMK6 baseband i wont even go on lte. when i try to use mobile odin it says the device is not compatible and it asks to make a backup. Seems like lots of canadians are having this problem anyone, anyone got any ideas? (tried 3 different 4.4 roms still no lte)

bump!
I received the an error in odin as well when trying to flash I337MVLUEMK6.
FAIL! (Auth) along with "secure check fail: mdm"
I was able to flash it successfully with mobile odin which seems to perform the flash without using the device's bootloader (original odin)
In any case, I too have no LTE. Is there anyone here with SGH-i337m on 4.4 with working LTE?
Mine works perfectly. I'm on kitkat 4.4 rom
Samsung galaxy s4 Canadian i337m
Well, I solved my problem. For some reason the default APN was set to "rogers-core-appl1.apn" switching to the LTE apn, "ltemobile.apn" fixed all of my issues so far.
Hi,
Since I dont have 10 posts and cant post on the Android Development forum I guess I need to post here instead. I flashed my I9505 with Android 4.3 v.2.2 of this firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341026 , which worked awesome except for a couple of force close and reboots. Perfect LTE and HSPA. I recently flashed it with the updated version Android 4.4 v.2. Everything works awesome except LTE or 3G, when trying to use those 2 the phone does not connect to a tower, doing a forced scan and connect works for a very short while and I get kicked off. Forcing 2G/Edge works perfect though!
1. When I flashed 4.4 V2, is it possible that it may somehow changed my radio firmware or can this only be done via odin? (I used philz to flash to 4.4 v2 without doing a full wipe, I wanted to keep settings/apps etc)
2. When checking here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ under I9505 and my country South Africa(Vodafone/Vodacom), the radio version on the site and on my phone correlates
GT-I9505 Galaxy S 4 LTE
BASEBAND -> MODEM: I9505XXUBMGA
What may have caused the phone to loose HSPA and LTE connectivity?
Thanks in advance for the replies.

You have to extract it and then you open odin and select phone on odin and find the file you extract then on your phone power off manually and wait 5 sec and hold power+volume down in order to go to download mode and connect the cable andpress start in odin . done/

xxuemke modem didnt work for me
I flashed with latest I9505 firmware from Sammobile website. Updated Radio, bootloader and camera firmware automatically! Then you can flash whatever you want. You must also check that the modem you use is compatible with your country.
After installation of the safestrap.i by mistake wipe the system and restart the device. after restart the device stuck on the open padlock, i cannot go back to recovery but the odin download work. i try to install the mf2 tar through odin but everytime it fails i cant able to find the mf3 tar file as all links are dead. if their is another options please let me know. or we can safestrap through odin anything.

It's failing with the aboot.mbn file because the rom is not meant for the phone or the bootloader on the phone is newer than the bootloader being flashed via Odin.
It appears that the phone has a locked bootloader and AT&T never released a full firmware after 4.2.2, only ota updates.

Hi,
Too less info from you to give you reliable answer.
What's your phone model?
What version of recovery did you try to flash and where did you get it from?
It might be several reasons for your issue like:
- wrong/incompatible recovery for your phone;
- corrupted download;
- locked bootloader (depending on your phone model);
etc

G870A
TWRP 3.1.1 KLTE - twrp.me
I followed the LineageOS guide, and I doubt it's the wrong recovery.
The md5 seemed to match on the TWRP file as well. I wouldn't know if it would have a locked bootloader, either.

Hi,
As far as I know AT&T s5 phones (G900A and G870A) come with locked bootloaders by default which prevents your phone from installing any custom firmware. You might need a so called safestrap recovery.
Anyway I advice you to ask more about that on AT&T s5 dedicated forum:
