I just successfully downloaded and installed the Gummy Kitkat 4.4 ROM and I'm LOVING it so far! Just one question, does anyone know how to do somthing equivalent to ##data# on this ROM? I am really new to this and yes i did search but yielded no results. Any help would be awesome!
See if it has HiddenMenu.apk in either /system/app or /system/priv-app. If it does, try using *#*#data#*#*
AOSP ROMs usually don't have access to any of the ##xxxx# dialer codes. You could always attempt to push HiddenMenu.apk to /system/priv-app or /system/app, but do this at your own risk.

Hey guys, just a quick question. I have a T-Mobile Vibrant rooted with bloatware removed running 2.2 Froyo. Im looking to replace the touchwiz lockscreen with the standard android lockscreen. is there something i can push with odin or something similar to achieve this?
I searched the forums and came across a similar thread, but no dice. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717013
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945178 ...............
I gave that a shot, i didn't see any real instructions so i renamed the zip to update.zip, put it in the root of internal and tried to install it VIA recovery and it didn't verify. Perhaps im going about it the wrong way?
You say your running 2.2 froyo. Is that the official kies update? If so thats the problem. You are trying to install the lock screen on a odexed rom. Needs to be used on a deodexed rom. Hope that helps.
For those who want Android 4.0.3 compiled from source. Also has separate Gapps, Face Unlock, and SU root.
Not in development because I didn't develop this. I just compiled from Google's source. This is for people who want plain old Android 4.0.3 the way Google intended from source (not much apps, very plain).
You will need CWM already installed. If you do not have CWM, you can use fastboot to boot to it without installing just to install the ROM. The zip files must be copied to /sdcard. You can use ADB to push to /sdcard.
http://www.guytechie.com/articles/2012/1/13/truly-stock-android-403-from-source-code.html
I compiled for both the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus (GSM version). GNex = Maguro, NexS = Crespo
I want to thank Shenye for writing the guide on how to compile ICS from source. I learned a lot, and I plan on learning more.
Note: I am experiencing some issues with root. I have to find another way to root 4.0.3. The Superuser file seem to work with only 4.0.2. I'm searching around for the root for 4.0.3. I'm sure someone already found a way in this fine forum.
You can get the latest SU version from here. Works fine on 4.0.3: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
But, what's with this ROM? How's it different from stock, except that you want to add superuser? You can try your luck in the development section, see what's missing there.
Personally, I'm happy with 4.0.3 stock and francisofranco's 3.0.8.

Im going to give that a try. This is just a straight compile from source. It's different from stock because it's built from source code, so no Google Apps. It's different from other ROMS because it's a blank slate.
So this is why it's not in the development section. I'd like to root this image as well, but it will NOT be a part of the ROM. Again, it's a blank slate for those who don't feel like going through the motions of downloading and compiling it themselves, or those who are curious of what Android looks like without anyone touching it.
Even Google's "stock" factory image has been touched up. This is ROM is a raw Android ICS build. A blank slate for all to use.
For me, personally, I can't wait for Google's official 4.0.3 update, so I'm making it myself. I want to install Gapps and root it. Nothing else.

I get an error.
E:Error in /sdcard/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
Thanks naddie very much!
I just needs the original source rom to test my mod.
hi, naddie, thanks for this.
to gain root i used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479831, then installed CWM and flashed CWM recovery, then installed SU from Market and to keep root i used this method (in root browser): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10029098&postcount=2 (point 8).
now i will test different kernels and try not to flash custom ROMs
Hey guys, I apologize if this has been answered but I was wondering if there was any way at all to change the soft keys for the Stock 4.1.2 rom?
I prefer to stay stock and I did try an AOKP rom, having a menu and a settings soft key would be awesome.
I am indeed rooted.
Thanks for any help.
Nope. You need a custom ROM. Might I recommend CodeNameAndroid. It is like AOKP and CM10 combined almost. It is very stable. Click on it on my signature to get directed to it.
Damn! It's the wrong forum. I was looking about softkeys/Galaxy Nexus phone and i didn't realize i fell into a Nexus 7 forum.... So sorry! I don't know if i should delete my reply. Should I?
Actually, you can change the softkeys whitout a installing a custom rom. You'' need to download it but wont' install it...
i'm running takju, stock jelly bean 4.1.2 and followed a video on Youtube called "LG Nexus 4 Softkeys on Galaxy Nexus | How To Guide"
The only thing i did a little bit different was running a clockworkmod recovery instead... but that was just me.
My apologies in advance if I'm a bit off topic given the JB version on my N7, but I didn't want to start another thread about modifying softkeys. The answer might also be very obvious to some, but I just want to make sure I'm not searching for the impossible. I have an Nexus 7 running JB 4.2 unlocked, rooted and with TWRP recovery. All I'd like to find out is if there is a way to move the back softkey to the right and move the apps preview softkey to the left. I have a SGSIII that I use most of the day and it has the back hardware key on the right... and so I keep hitting the preview key instead of the back key on the N7. My understanding is that this can only be done with some custom ROMs that are deodexed and not with the odexed stock ROMs. Is this correct?... Is there no app, tool or hack (flash zip file) that can be used on a rooted stock N7 that can either replace the necessary files or deodex the files that need to be modified, make the changes and odex them again? If not, why not? I'm sure I'm missing the obvious.

Yeah, 4.4 hotspot is kinda borked. You can fix it by renaming the /data/misc/wifi directory as root to data/misc/borked. For some reason, it doesn't like that directory being there. Go figure, but fortunately, intuitive obvious solutions such as this are available sometimes to resolve these issues.
Ok cool.. And is there a mod or tweak I have to install or just edit those things?

Oh, I just noticed you're referring to the stock rom. That mod is for cm11. One of the main reasons I use cm11 is exactly for the hotspot. I'm afraid I can't be any help on the stock rom since I dumped it almost immediately when I got the phone, so I don't have any experience with it. However, there is a chance it shares this related issue with cm11, so you could try it, then undo the changes if it doesn't work since it's just a simple directory rename.
Ok cool!! How do I edit it? Do I need to download root browser and what are the steps,And is cm11 stable and does everything work on it?

If you're not rooted yet, follow the forum procedures to get rooted first.
if you are already rooted, it's easy. go into terminal emulator, or get it from the play store if you don't have it yet. In terminal emulator, type:
> su
> mv /data/misc/wifi /data/misc/borked
you can undo this change later by:
> su
> mv /data/misc/borked /data/misc/wifi
the su command is necessary and only works if you're rooted. If you successfully changed the name, then reboot and try the hotspot. If it doesn't work on NAE, then I would get my hotspot from cm11 instead. If I were you, I would start with the 6/9/2014 M6 SNAPSHOT version of cm11 found on the cyanogen website since that is probably the most stable at the moment. Everything works as far as I know, but if you need the most stable, you might want to consider going back to cm10.2 because it's solid, and also has hotspot with no tweaks like this necessary. Also, you will need to obtain gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip (for cm11), or gapps-gb-20130813-signed.zip (for cm10.2) and CWMrecovery-touch-6.0.4.7-jfltespr.img as part of your installation. Just follow the detailed procedures mentioned in the forum for installing custom recovery and roms. Finally, if you do decide to flash cm11, don't forget the mod above when you've finished, since that was the whole point in the first place
Ok yea new recovery I do have installed..

I use this app, it will say that the app started with errors, but the computer will recognize it. Try it out and let me know. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586946

Actually, it didn't lol. I wound up flashing back to stock, and wouldn't ya know it, it STILL didn't work, lol. Metro confirmed their app doesn't work right on this variant, so they just did it from their end.
