Hi everyone. I have a Note 3 SM-N900 which has been updated to Android Kitkat 4.4.2 (N900XXUDNA6_N900OLBDNA2) from Android 4.3 (N900XXUCMK2_N900OLBCMJ3) recently.
After update, I see my battery life is very bad. Before update, my Note 3 can last more than 1 days. Now after update, my Note 3 can last only 12 hours (not more). I use Battery Monitor Widget and see that, my batter capacity has been tripped from 3200 mAh to 2100mAh. I have tried reset to factory but nothing change. Plz help me.

hi ,
two points ( it might help )
first in battery monitor did you manually tried to change it to 3200 mah ( see screenshot )
and i would suggest to id whats draining your battery
install "Wakelock detector" app it does work on kitkat 4.4.2 , with help of a " adb small hack "( very easy to do ,and no root needed )
( see link and post #338 by the developer.... ahikmat , for small tutorial to get Wakelock working on kitkat )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179651&page=34
At least you could see what is causing wakelocks and draining battery ??
i have n9005 note 3 lte and running kitkat 4.4.2 stock
No root ,Poland vers Xeo .( for nearly2/ 3 weeks now ? )
battery is very similar to 4.3 which was very good !
Thanks you, I ll try Wakelock.
About Battery Monitor Widget, if I set capacity to 3200mAh, then it just ll overide the true value, show a fake capacity. Do I need to run calibration in Battery Monitor Widget (It seems kinda hard to understand, require power cycle at least 40%, sth like that), will it help?
I dont wanna root. If there is a way to go back 4.3 rom, I woulde like to do it.

hi ,
first, no on my other devices i had in the past ,htc one x ,if the mah was wrong i just manualy edited/override it(.eg.type 3200), in battery monitor setting /calibration/battery capacity (mah ) and it was updated ,so try ..no root needed for this .
i also see from your screenshot ..top right corner your estimated battery drainage is 2.29 % per hour ??(plse check why ?)
a small tip/advice ..
Don't be in such a hurry to revert/go back to 4.3 if you have a problem !
You are on Xda ,so i'm sure with advice from other forum members you can solve most issues !
Personally i really ,favour kitkat 4.4.2
My reasons ......
just the improved/increase in bluetooth stability ,already made it worth while !
i found that my bluetooth plantronic headset ,was not losing connection (from time to time) anymore,
my Note3 pairs with my Polar h7 hart/rate monitor..where on 4.3 it did not even pick it up !
my Gear watch has not lost connections as it had previously on 4.3
good luck
post note
the way i see it your device true value is 3200 ?
(How battery monitor gets 2100 ??? as stated above with htc one x, it show also wrong mah, but i manual changed it ,had no problems afterward, regarding this mah isssue)
I see, I was too panic about the mAh thing. I have decided to remove Batterry Monitor Widget and forget about it. I ll continue to use as normal, hopefully after some cycle charging, the battery ll back to normal.
By now, I ll use it, turn on power saving, and wait for the next update. I hope the next update that ll fix the 3rd party accessories ll solve my problem too.
P/s: I still regret about taking SM-N900. If I had chance to choose again, I would take a N9005 for better performance.
Battery Monitor Widget can dramatically increase the life, In my case too it was reporting 1000mAh (I think its a bug in kernel on 4.4.2). Actually kernel doesn't know the battery capacity but somehow assumes it.
1. Any way change it manually to 3200 in BMW
2. Then charge battery to 100% once it shows 100% keep it on charge for another 30 mins for trickle charge.
3. then delete all battery history/statistics/ estimations from within BMW
4. use as normal but ensure that you let the battery die completely to 0% (phone should refuse to boot up on battery) before you plugin for next charge. (don't charge in between at all) the idea is to tell BMW the max & the min current which the battery can handle based on that BMW calculates the battery %
5. at least do this 100-0 then 0-100 cycles 3-4 times BMW will have enough data history to calibrate your battery.
I am now getting 31hrs backup on 100% charge This bug of kernel reporting mAh wrongly capacity happened in 4.4.2 update, on 4.3 many users say it was showing 3200mAh correctly.

Hi Guys!
Sorry for posting this here, but with less than 10 posts i'm not allowed to post in development threads.
i'm using rafdroid 3.1 and really love it, it's a great build!
but my battery lasts only for about ~12-18 hours on normal usage. This is really a problem for me, it should last at least 24h, better 30h in normal usage. cause when i have to use it more, i need to go to ~12h without any problems...
i noticed that the shut down voltage in the used kernel is @ 3.6V, could somebody confirm this?
A li-ion battery can be discharged to 3.0V (maybe lower) without any problems. I'm into r/c planes so i have a lot to do with batteries and i know this is true, also look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutoff_voltage#Premature_voltage_cut-off
So is it possible that i set the shut down voltage for myself to 3,2V or 3,0V?
Maybe this would bring the extra hours i'm searching for...
switching to a none sense build isn't a solution for me, i love sense and use it a lot (the dialer is really near to the best thing i can imagine, i also love friendstream and the weather widget with the fullscreen animation...)
We are dischargin with a maximum of 0,2C (~240mA) so when you look at this chart at the red line:

we are nearly wasting the half battery time when shutting off @3.6V. with a shutoff @[email protected],2C i think we would have a 1/4 more use time. with a shutoff @[email protected] in standby mode (4mA) the battery would maybe stand 2 times longer?
but in fact of the fast downgoing voltage i would prefer to go to 3,2V to be on the safe side...
sorry for my bloody english, i hope everyone can follow me
I think this is a very interesting question. I have calibrated my battery but it seems like my ROM/kernel (imilka Vision Sense 4.1) is thinking that 3.6 V is the same as empty and shuts down. It initiates the shutdown procedure at that level approximately. After that it can be restarted some times before the battery is completely empty.
What I am looking for is a solution to change the shutdown voltage to 3.2 V instead of 3.6. It would be a good addition to the battery life.
If there´s some kind of configuration file that can be changed it would be good to have it done.
It seems like calibration doesn´t solve this configuration problem. It still shuts down at too high level.
I hope this thread can provide a solution.
That's really interesting. But I think it is a protection feature for the battery itself. So I don't know what might happen if you go down to 3.2V.
I'm not sure but this might be a driver or even something deeper in our phone that causes the shutdown so early. So I guess it's not very smart to touch this piece of the system and I don't know if it is possible anyway. But please, someone who knows better should let me know
As far as i know, the hardware cut off in the batterie is around 2.6v, so there would be no caution to the batterie itself. I also read that the software shutdown is in the kernel.
So the question is, if there is a posability to change the voltage myself or if this have to do a kernel chef?
The danger to destroy the batterie with this experiment would be very smal, and if, an original htc batt cost @ amazon ~20€...
Actually I think if you look at the post about Battery stats bin file, there is talk about the actual cut off without harm to the battery, and I think I remmeber seeing that 2.6 is the cutoff, is there a way to see what WinMo cuts off at? this way we are sure of the same cutoff, cause I agree the battery doesnt last nealy as long as winmo and that would be a good reason why.
It would be great if some of the devs could also say something to this thread
hopefully the devs notice this thread.
honestly this is the best (better most exciting) idea i have heard since magdlr came out did you allready ask in the irc?
#htc-linux, #htc-linux-chat on freenode
sorry, I'm not usin irc, maybe someone else could do this
I like this idea too especially since most batts have some juice left till 3.2 Volts and all the extra bits of minutes we can squeeze out of it is nice.
BUT, I wonder if this is not being done on purpose. Who says our beloved phone works under a certain Voltage treshold?
I have no schematic so I can't check on what Voltage the components and probably the Voltage regulator work.
There´s a sign that we should be able to get some more juice from the battery. When the device switches itself off there´s sometimes power left to do atleast 2-3 reboots almost until full boot (with other it switches off first when the home screen is supposed to be shown).
That is an indication that there should be some more power left in the battery which means the shutdown can be delayed somewhat in theory. When the battery is really depleted the HD2 switch itself off after one second of showing the bootscreen. But before it can almost complete 2-3 reboots.
In Windows Mobile it´s a little bit different - it can do one reboot before calibration but with Android it´s able to do more reboots before depletion. I would guess that 3.3 V would be a proper shutdown value when those reboots is considered. Unfortunately I don´t know how the voltage when it has been emptied down to "immediate shutdown" because it indicates 3.6 V after the first successful boot with charger connected.
My phone is dying at 30%... Started to happening when I changed the ROM. I managed to drain the battery to 7% with 3.4 V... At this point I can't keep de phone on to drain the rest. Tried all "calibration" methods.. not working
Was running NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.3_NAND_(Android-2.3.2) for last two months.. in standby I wouldn't get more than six hours really. Drove me nuts. I've just upgraded to NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.6_NAND_(Android-2.3.3)_update . Is there anything I have to do to get better battery life?
Some app that'll turn off wifi? (i have no wifi at work but would like it on at home, any suggestions?)
Should I be upgrading the SD card to some other type?
I never used battery monitoring tools until today. I've installed 'current widget' and it shows 4-6ma of usage when sleeping.
Battery E.T.A. app shows 10hrs of life .. is this normal?
I'm almost at the point of selling this phone because of the insanely short battery life..
no it isn't normal...with 4mA drain it must have to keep at least 2 days in standby...buy a new battery

Your current widget shows that the battery should last really long. With 4-6maH, u should drain battery at an approx rate of 1% per hour. But since your battery doesnt last that long even after that, seems your battery is too old and is going to die soon.
I will suggest you to flash the stock win 6.5 rom, see the battery drain, if it lasts for 10hrs or so, go and get and new battery.

Ok, I'll see how it performs for next two days. Then try a different battery. Odd thing is. I have two batteries, neither seemed to last any longer than the other.
I checked this one is a bb81100 1350mAh/3.7v.
Any recommended battery for this phone? Ebay safe?

Hey
Try enabling the Log file & Log applications in current widget settings, then check the log after a few hours to see if, or how often, your mA spikes above 300-400mA (in standby), then try to figure if any apps you have installed are causing this spikes/ drain.
its a bit of work, but it has helped me in the past identify a 'problem' app
There might be a chance that some other app is eating up your battery.... enable app logs in current widget and check the log if any app has high battery usage...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Ok, this is quite surprising. I've gotten 13hrs and it says 40% battery left..
I've enabled logging as recommended. But these logs aren't exactly fun to look at. I don't understand why they wouldn't give you an option to pull the core android apps out of the logging.. or some sorta filter tool. ugh
the one thing I uninstalled was the antivirus program that was on my phone. Well along with the firmware update. I can deal with 13hrs of battery.. it was the six hours or 7-8hrs that was annoying as all heck. So if this really does last another 5-10hrs for a total of 20+hrs I'll be super stoked. I barely use my phone.. no games. nothing. It just sits on standby for 3-5calls a day.. and perhaps 20emails/rss feed checks.
Hi,
Kind of a noob question, but how do you enable Log file & Log applications?
I'm running the same ROM and getting 10 hours on a full charge, I used to get much more on the previous Froyo NAND ROM I was running.
In standby, sometimes it gets as low as 3mA however sometimes it spikes as high as 100-250 mA while in standby.
I'm guessing its an app or widget that is causing this (although I pretty much have the same ones as I was using in the previous ROM)

Open Current Widget settings...Tick d boxes beside "Log file" & "Log Applications"...Set ur update intervals (i usually use 300secs= 5 mins)...Let ur phone sit in standby for about 2 hrs then re-open current widget...Tap "View Log" to view the logs with d default or ur favorite viewer.

I prefer Battery Monitor Widget instead of Current Widget. Hard to explain the differences but you'll know when you try it.
At 4-6mA standby your phone should go for more than 2 days.
Edit: Add screenshot. Even says 3 days.

Wakelock Detector and Greenify... are ur best friends on the Note 3.
Turnoff wifi, bluetooth, gps, etc when not in use. Set CPU to on demand. I always have power saver on unless I want to run a game... doesn't seem to effect anything else.
There are a ton of tips for Note 3 battery life...just search here...
I also use LUX for screen brightness, that made a big difference also. Change you wallpapers to darker colors... mine are some sort of black background...
I can make through the day with reasonable usage on Hyperdrive RLS8 and still have battery left...
Haven't tried BajaROM yet...

Thank you for your response. I have greenify'd most of my daily apps and I use wake lock detector and still cant find out the culprit here. It says that my SCREEN is taking up 30% of my battery life after just 2 hours unplugged and minimal use and I'm down to 82%. Can my phone just be inherently defective????
This DOESNT feel right. I NEVER had any complaints of battery with my NOTE 2

Check your data usage. I had the similar situation, saw nothing in the battery usage area....but then checked data usage. I had over 2 Gigs of data usage from EMAIL in only 2 weeks! I had been using the std email app...and get maybe 10 emails a day. Obviously something goofy going on in the sync. Yet battery usage showed next to nothing for the sync process or email app.
I removed my accounts from the email package, froze the email package and installed AquaMail and my battery usage cut by at least half....my data use flatlined.
Obviously it takes power to use the radio for a Gig a week of data....but that does NOT seem to show in battery usage.
so check your data usage...see if email is way out in front. That may be your problem.

I had the same issue with battery life after I flashed to and of the KK roms. My problem was Greenify, and I don't know why. Removing it didn't solve my problem so I'd restart from the beginning. My drain is less than 1% per hour idle without it and almost 10% per hour running all the same apps with greenify in different settings. Jasmine ROM just drained for me all the time.
*first post, be nice. I only joined because of all the trouble I went through to get my battery life back.
Hello everyone is someone experiencing battery drain after updating to MM. Today at 9am my battery was 100% after 4 hours without using my phone droped to 53% i dont think that's normal when i looked to details the majority was drained by Android system over 70%.

I do not have that battery drain problem. In fact battery usage appears lesser than lolli. I saw some people complain about the battery drain though.
When I upgrade MM from Lolli I did clear the cache.
When I installed MM 2nd time, I did the factory reset.
In MM, Asus drops a couple of apps and add some apps that could work with MM. (I do really miss the asus mail which is no long compatible with MM)
MM has autostart manager please use it to prevent autostarting the apps that you do not use.
Also go to the app manager and disable the apps that you are not using.
That is what I did.
Do a clean wipe and see if issue still persists.
Did you disable Asus mobile manager? I did because I hate its addition to the notification bar. When I did this my battery life became awful. I then enabled Mobile Manager and my battery life is fine again (I just have to deal with the notification).
After MM official update
I found out how to reduce the memory and battery drain. Go to setting and location, click on menu on your top right corner then scanning, uncheck wifi and Bluetooth scanning! It save another 10%
Also battery problem here battery only get me one day with Android OS at 55% usage, report it already as bug cause even if the system is new without user apps it still persist for me, something woke up the phone all the time.
I disabled Locations, re-add g-account, disabled G+, and also Facebook Crap. Sad that I'm not rooted, to have a deeper look into it, but I have to send phone to service next month cause the vibration'engine' is dead. just found out that BetterBatteryStats work without root only with adb...
Attached a Screenshot right after a full load. Post second if it's empty.
After installing BBS and could watched at the stats I found the OSPM Wakelock as highest in my stats.... But why my battery is so fast drained if I'm not using the phone
With me also. I use skype like an our a day, and last night i noticed that it went from 97% to 30% in that hour. When i was on LP, it usually dropped to like 60%.
I did a factory reset before rooting the device.

I bought this phone last year in july and everything was going pretty smoothly until the nougat update. It completely broke my phone.
MY PHONE GETS FULLY CHARGED IN 30-45 MINS(OBVIOUSLY A BUG).
BATTERY DRAIN IS TERRIBLE, FROM 100% TO 15-20 % IN MAXIMUM 1 HOUR.
PHONE GETS SHUT DOWN ALL OF A SUDDEN AND SHOWS WRONG BATTERY PERCENTAGE.
Now let me tell you all what I have tried to fix this and STILL TRYING. -_-
In January 2017 tried methods like factory reset, clear cache partition etc, nothing works.
Now this month I thought of going back to MM to fix the problem l, that too didn't work.( I downgraded using fastboot)
Again updated to nougat and rooted my phone for the first time, and tried some popular custom recovery. Result = No change what so ever.
Tried Elementalx kernel = No results.
Currently using the Lineage OS 14.1 latest version ( heard it's the most stable CM) = no change even after using some battery optimising apps like greenify.
Attaching battery info screenshot for reference.
If anyone found out any fix to this problem then please tell me. I feel like throwing this piece of **** in the garbage.
PS - while writing the question my battery drained almost 10%

There's always a chance if it's a hardware failure of the battery. It depends on the service center. You should give it a try.

Did you get the battery drain issue resolved? My g4 plus is having a same issue after bought it a year but rarely use it....now after lightly used for about 15 mins, battery is down 10%. Any help is appreciated.

What firmware do you have on your device? Do you have any apps besides the standard stock apps (e.g. Google apps) on your device? How strong is your signal?
You may wish to download Better Battery Stats (free version here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 ) or GSAM Battery Monitor to check if there's any apps or processes draining your battery.
Alternatively, as others have suggested, if there's no obvious draining apps, it could be a firmware issue (try a clean, complete firmware flash) or a battery issue.

1. What firmware do you have on your device? I have the original unrooted stock rom running Android 7.0 and just checked no update needed.
2. Do you have any apps besides the standard stock apps (e.g. Google apps) on your device? The G4 plus is showing i have 133 app installed and currently running Nova Launcher.
3. How strong is your signal? I am setting it at Airplane mode while turning wifi on just to listen to music and surf the web.
I will download the Better Battery Stats and GSAM Battery Monitor to monitor the battery performance.
Thanks for your reply.
A possible cause is that the connector between battery and motherboard is loose (so that the accu cannot give full power to the motherboard). To fix this, you need to open your phone with a t4 torx screwdriver and tweezers (look for the instruction videos on this on youtube). Disconnect and reconnect the battery cable connector to the motherboard and make sure it is well fixed.
In my case this worked like a charm, I also noticed that next to the battery having normal behavior again, the phone was also much faster. Apparently the processor speed was also tuned down as the battery could not give full power before applying this fix. Saved me 25 / 70 / 230 euros (new battery / new battery with service costs / new phone)

Thanks a lot Rinthros for your solution. My Moto G4 Plus caused same issue after having overnight charging for two consecutive nights. 2nd day morning I realized that my phone discharged with normal use in only 1 hour. And after get fully charged in only 30 minutes. It felt very sad but then found this solution by Rinthros. I did exactly the same. Opened my phone with t4 for screwdriver and disconnected battery connectors and just reconnected it. It worked for me exactly smooth and amazing. Now after doing so from last 3 days my phone working as it was previously.
Thanks a lot for your solution Rinthros.
:fingers-crossed::good:
I too had the same problem but actually this occurs after updating it to Oreo my battery is not fully charging and after unplugging battery percent remains same got stuck after 1hr of usage device gets shutdown due to low battery all these problem are only in stock Oreo so I downgraded to marshmallow everything works fine after a battery calibration I dont know what was the problem on Oreo guys pls help me to fix it
Thanks a lot Rinthros. My battery was original from 2016 and tired. I decided to buy a new and followed an instruction on the net. After a day or two I noticed rapid drain and quick charge . In the end I had 30 min of use before I needed to charge again. I opened the unit and, for sure, the connection between battery and motherboard was loose. Fixed this and this was very successful. Two hours later, after re-charge, my Moto 4 is still on 94%. My theory is that a floor-drop caused the disconnect. I visited another forum in search for a solution, but nothing helped. I think this solution applies to other versions of Moto. Please Lenovo, listen to Rinthros, this can save you a lot of customers. Moto is a greate phone and deserves better support.
