I'm trying to find a higher resolution setting, but hybrid properties for PAC-MAN ROM always seem to cut off the top of the screen while in apps. Is there a way to fix this when selecting "phablet mode" or "recommended UI".
Also, What are some of your suggested custom settings for workspace (i.e., DPI). I'm trying to find a setting that fits more info on the screen, but that doesn't cause weird cut-off side effects or widget problems.

Hey All,
I'm working with a Notion Ink adam, but based off a bunch of the Nook Color/Gtab/Galaxy Tab threads, this isn't isolated to the adam.
I'm running into an issue where the following occurs: from stock, I can set 1024x600 wallpapers in gallery/desktop/etc, and they'll be full screen, centered, and uncropped. As soon as I install any custom launcher(so far, I've tested with the new VTL.launcher, Launcher Pro, ADW, zeam) the wallpaper gets stretched as if it was going to scroll, but scrolling all the way to the side still doesn't display the whole wallpaper.
In fact, from that point on, I can no longer set a 1024x600 wallpaper as a desktop, as it thinks it's not the right height/width and stretches then crops it. If I try to manually crop in Gallery, it only allows me to expand it to a 4:3 square, instead of the full screen.
This does not resolve itself after uninstalling the other launchers, and in fact, the only way I've found to permanently fix it, is to factory reset.
I've been doing some tinkering, and discovered that under /data/system, there is a "Wallpaper_info.xml" which lists the wallpaper height/width. Since installing a launcher, it lists the height as 1024, and the width as 1200, which isn't really correct at all. However, if I manually change that to 600 and 1024, respectively, then hard reboot, the wallpaper I've set will display correctly until I go off of the homescreen and come back, or lock the device.
This makes me think something within the launchers are changing what android believes the resolution and/or wallpaper size should be. However, I have no idea what service I could clear the data on to make this revert without a factory reset.
Any insight on what would cause this type of change is greatly appreciated.
As a few extra asides: I've tried Wallpaper Wizardrii and Wallpaper set and save, set and save still shows a cropped image, Wizardrii makes black bars appear above the top and bottom.
Thanks,

I've ran into the same exact problem after installing, then uninstalling, MIUI Launcher. Anyone know a fix?
I REALLY like tablet displays in the apps.
1.Right now I'm struggling with the fonts (too small for these old eyes).Accessory text enlarger only affects a few apps).
ICS doesn't have a fonts tab in 'display' like GB so I cant figure how to change the font.
2. Amp music player won't stay on when the device is turned off.
3.the bottom navigation bar items are easy to hit when going for a bottom row app.
Still REALLY like tablet format on my note and hope to smooth these things out.
On AOSP ROMs there is a 'text size' option under 'Display'. The size set there is universal, except for third-party apps(some of them use a fixed font size, but most scale well). No option to change the font itself, but it should be possible the way it's done on 2.3(I haven't tried it).
So, today I decided to test my nook at 240 dpi, now that we can do that without a patch (huge thanks to leapinlar). Overall, I really liked the phone UI with the status bar being at the top and the soft keys at the bottom. My main issue is that all the apps (i.e. GMail, etc) show up in phone mode, which I believe is a waste of screen real estate (although it makes sense with everything being bigger and all).
What I'm wondering if there's any way to have the phone UI (i.e. status bar at top, nav keys at bottom) at 160 dpi, so the apps still show up in the tablet layout.
Does anyone know anything about how to go about doing this?
(I already know that the screen dpi is what defines whether the device considers itself a tablet or a phone (160+ means phone, 160 or less means tablet). Based on this information, I don't think it's possible, but I thought I'd ask anyway.)
It's not possible. The system automatically decides based on dpi. You can set it to 161 and it will be phone. However, each app decides for itself whether to display itself in phone gui or tablet gui. I have seen apps still display in phone even if the nook was in tablet and vice versa. They do their own calculations based on the dpi and other factors. Also some apps come in two versions, a tablet version and a phone version. So you can try 161 or there abouts and see how the apps respond. Be warned though that setting to a non standard dpi (120, 160, or 240) may make Market/Play Store not show all apps. I guess you could set to a standard setting temporarily to make market work right and then once your new app is installed, set it back.
I figured as much. Thanks!
On true ICS compatable devices there is also a setting in build.prop called ro.build.characteristics that can be set =tablet... I don't know if it is enabled in our builds or not.
Hi,
im using paranoid android build 19th feb with matr1x kernel on the nexus 4.
So far so good. Thanks to the developers.
I noticed something strange when I resize the "Launcher"
using the following settings
Size: 220p | Layout/UI: 360
I got a densely populated app drawer.
but the desktop is still limited to 5 icons width.
Not sure how can i maximise the usable screen as its only 6 apps wide.
Its strange that the app drawer scales nicely but the desktop is not scaled automatically.
The other thing I noticed is that when I run @ the following settings
Size: 220p | Layout/UI: 720p
The taskbar is correct but the area of the desktop overflows (doesnt display all icons as its outside the screen) until i put it lower.. eg.. below 190.
As the layout is controlled by the screen boundary, should the scaler function first check if the usable area is out of the physical boundary & accordingly limit the size so that it doesn't go out of the screen?
Hey man,
first of all I can see you are new here, but on the first page of the Q&A section is a thread called: ParanoidAndroid Help Thread and FAQ
which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969377.
It would probably be a better idea to post the question there, instead of creating a new one.
To answer your question, if you want to change the number of apps visible on the homes screen or in app drawer, you need to change it in launcher settings. I'm not sure if the stock PA launcher has this ability, so I would recommend trying Apex or Nova launcher, where I know for 100% it is possible.
Playing with DPIs and Layout UI doesn't always give you what you want, so try different combinations of those 2 to find a perfect one for you. For example i have my Hybrid properties set for 270 DPI and Phablet UI (600p) for workspace and Global apps Phone (360p) for both sys anduser apps. Other apps will be set automatically, but you can change your launcher settings by going to Hybrid Properties - Apps - Nova Launcher (on my nexus). I have it set for 270DPI and 360p and all looks great. You cen set you desktop grid in nova to 12/12 so you will have maaaany icons there Have fun with the best rom for Necus 4
back in 2014 i started on a ui design i called symetiumos, i was able to find a team to make it into a launcher but i ended up getting scammed by them they simply left me with it in a very broken unusable state, i released the launcher on the playstore and despite it being broken the response has been overwhelming, so far it has nearly 5 stars and over 300 downloads, i am looking for someone that can help me finish the launcher and fix it's bugs
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.symetium.ui.launcher&hl=en
this is a full list of everything thats remaining some things can be skipped such as automatic appsorting or the modes system (modes system works by combining two identical settings screens into one, it's like backing up your settings on a random launcher, my launcher would have two settings screens one for portrait one for landscape it would use each depending on orientation it's like a launcher that has portrait and landscape settings for grid, but my launcher has it for the entire settings screen, so if you set the color layer to red in portrait and green in landscape then it will be green when you flip the phone, because the launcher changes to a new settings screen in landscape, it's like if you kept backups of multiple settings configs then have the launcher flip between them, each mode uses two settings screens identical ones only difference being what the user adjusts them to.
the main bugs are
1.full appdrawer needs to be replaced or repaired it lags, the icons in it are offcentered, the full appdrawer button needs to be 4 dots, it should be pullable down right now you need to press the x to close it you should be able to pull it down like any other appdrawer, if you set it to disabled then the button should not be visible any more.
2.the "system" category needs to be removed it lags and it shouldn't be there, the team added it based on a guess.
3.when scrolling through apps the dockmenu can close itself this is a bug
4.you should be able to scroll all around the dockmenu so when you get to the end category it scrolls back to the homescreen like you'd expect and vice versa meaning if you scrolling the other side you will enter the dockmenu from the last category rather than first, right now it blinks out rather than scrolling
5.homescreen appdock needs work right now it's pretty limited you can't set any icons or even what the current icons do, it also needs a button to enable or disable it
6.a menu needs to be made for customization of categories
7.homescreen needs the standard pinch menu to get to the launcher settings button, wallpaper button etc
8.launcher needs a general settings section with the following options
enable/disable navigationbar (this simply enables or disables the navigationbar in the current mode and orientation)
enable disable statusbar (this simply enables or disables the stock android statusbar in the current mode and orientation)
enable disable persistent statusbar (this makes it easy or difficult to reveal the statusbar, right now it's difficult and you can't do anything about it)
enable disable persistent navigationbar (this makes it easy or difficult to reveal the navigationbar, right now it's difficult and you can't do anything about it)
9.the launcher should not resize itself depending on dpi all sizes should be available on any device and any dpi, the launcher needs a "dockmenu size" option under dockmenu where the user can set any size that is available through different dpi's, size settings needs to work for the custom statusbar as well, the dock has many more size options through dpi changes rather than the size options in settings so add all these options in settings and prevent it from resizing itself depending on dpi
automatic dpi resizing can be ok if it chooses a setting from the settings menu, just like when windows chooses a resolution thats recommended) the user should be able to have any size they want on any device regardless of dpi, if automatic then it should simply choose a size thats available in the settings.
10.color layer bugs not filling properly and the dock glitching out sometimes where the home icon dissappears and the dot no longer works.
these are the most of whats broken.
full list of whats remaining is below, if anyone wants to help me finish my launcher please let me know.
