Emails, most software programs, and most everything in general, great resolution, but font so small makes it hard to even see at times. I have a Note with 1280X800 resolution and font size is great, very readable but Tab 7.7 w/same resolution, but different size screen, more real estate and font appears to be 50% smaller. I have read it is Honeycomb w/no font adjustment opportunities and the Note is Gingerbread 2.3.6. Maybe ICS 4.2 once available, which combines all smartphones and tablets into a standard OS, will fix this.
Great to have the resolution, but when you can't adjust or read some of the print, then becomes difficult to support the cost, of the device. Browser is fine, that can be pinched to increase size, but the rest of the software, etc can't. The Samsung provided email client is really small, small enough I wonder if they even considered looking at the various software programs that came on the device. The actual emails are small, on inbox emails you can hit screen once for one size bump, but if you are replying, or forwarding etc, and you want to refer to what the email said, you can hardly see the print, and can't adjust at all.
I have rooted the 7.7 so have tried 2 software programs, LCD Resolution and LCD Density, doesn't work properly, which I was told before I tried by someone who really knows all this, don't bother, won't work.
So waited 4 months to get 7.7, and now difficult to read because font too small. Then I use the Note, which has a 5.3" screen, and I can read everything perfect. Why can't 7.7 read comparable to it's smaller brother, the Note 5.3? If the font size of the Note would be on the Tab 7.7 that would be perfect.
Any thoughts?
Good points hope to get someone elses input.

HC has the ability to import fonts but I'm not sure if there is any other bigger font available.
I would like to know of a way to get a larger font as well.. the stock font is indeed to small..

Tab 7.7
Just you and I
apparently just you and I are concerned.
After looking into this a but more, there are no other ways to make the font "bigger".
You could try add the line "ro.sf.lcd_density=xxx"(where xxx is the size, stock on HC is 160) to the build.prop and set it that way. However dont say I didnt warn you, just make sure you have the ability to pull the build.prop file and remove that line.
There is the option to "Stretch to fill screen" However most things will look distored. And this will only work if the app has tablet support.
Aa a rule of thumb, take your computer, and bump up the resolution on your desktop monitor. What happends, font, icons, and everything gets smaller. Reason to believe the 7.7 is running at the true 1280x800 while the Galaxy Note is not.
2 other possibilities are ask samsung, or install some sort of "font changer" from the market and install a bigger font.
The Note is set at 320 DPI which is double the setting of 160 on the 7.7. So everything is scaled bigger. Android uses DPI settings to determine what size icons to use, what size range to use in fonts, etc. More DPI, bigger icons, larger font.
Want to see something interesting, lower the DPI on the Note (or device of your choice) down to 240, or even 160. Things get SMALLER, not bigger.
If you want to increase the 7.7's DPI, I recommend you do not go higher than 214 or you'll no longer be considered a "tablet". Higher than 214 the lockscreen will change to be more phone-like, and you may not be able to access tablet versions of apps.
Someone mentioned that his Tab is screwed when he changed the DPI. It's in one of the other threads. Proceed with caution.
well, I'm using ICS on the original tab and it has the option to make the font bigger. if only you could wait

The gmail client has an option to increase the font Size. The browser has pinch to zoom.
And the screen is of such high quality you should be holding it closer to your face.
DPI
This tab is set for DPI 160, actually Tw Launcher is. Changing DPI to higher will make your font and icons bigger but TW will not work and you won't be able to use your tab. Perhaps changing the launcher to any other available one would do it but I didn't try. There are several DPI changing apps on the Market. Personally I am going to wait for the ICS upgrade and then we'll see. On the other hand I had no issues with the original tab to change DPI (I use ADW launcher) but I wouldn't recommend it for this one.
Changing DPI
Thanks. I changed by going into build.prop and added the line, at the bottom, "ro.sf.lcd_density=180". I rebooted and everything worked fine, checked most applications. The difference between 160 to 180 was great, just the right size. I tried 200 but not good, in my mind, too large, and slightly distorted status bar at bottom, but 180 is so much better to see (read) than the pre installed 160.
I never use TouchWiz, so no worries with that. I use Go Launcher, and all good.
I followed your advice. 180 is a lot better with go launcher ex. Only issue is that standard email app now crashes. Gmail still works thanks

LCD Density to 180 using Build.prop Editor
I should have done a better job of communicating. Email, whether it is the regular one or even Moxier Mail, neither work, and as far as I can tell, the only software that doesn't work when bumping to 180. I tried clearing data, rebooting, etc., to no avail.
HELP!!
For now I am using k9 mail, which works fine.

Tried pumping up the DPI to 180 with Go EX Launcher. Wall paper screwed up (did not fill the screen and appear broken) so I had to revert.
Wallpaper
Once on, if in portrait and wallpaper short on bottom, turn device to landscape ans should fill in, then back to portrait, then all should be OK.
I'm sure that something can be done with a custom flipfont. Search for flipfont on xda. The fonts are installable apks. You can switch the fonts in the settings (screen - screen display - font)
But there's a limit to the size you can set (that is if you don't mind all kind of overlapping issues in apps and desktop Widgets)
Edit: Big Font (free app in the market) increases the system font. It does some wonderful things.
Thanks Appelflap. Tested the big font apps and it's working but some apps like facebook does not take the change and remain in tiny little font.
So Actually I was going to write a thread about the two themes present in the samsung's TouchWizUI: White and Blue.
My Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 i.e. tab shows me only white theme while the phones shows the blue one.
But while messing with the LCD density I found that the firmware Actually has both of the themes.
so I started experiments on my tab with different LCD Densities and found that while we have both of the themes but we actually have all the three UIs with us too.
It's been the 4.1.1 update that made me loose my fav tabletUI and make it to the PhabletUI.
By changing Lcd density, we can see the changes in the UI.
Please see the attachments for Screenshots.
Range:
Below 140 is the TabletUI with the white theme.
Between 140 and 160 is the PhabletUI with white theme
Above 160 is the PhoneUI with the BLUE theme
though changing LCD density to other than 160 will make the touchwiz home and keyboard app to crash.
but using alternatives [launcher and keyboard app] can make it cool.
also densities greater then 160 [phoneui] will also cause the camera app to crash and the UI will change the camera Icon with a cute little green android.
Review:
TabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) There is no bar on the top
3) Notification bar opens from bottom
4) Battery percentage Is displayed
5) Even on rotation to the landscape, button bar [The one with the back, home and recent buttons on, sorry don't know the name for it] stayes at the bottom
6) In lockscreen only bottom bar is present
PhabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) Bar on either side of screen i.e. Notification bar on top and the action bar [let us give it a name] at bottom.
3) notification comes from top
4) notification bar doesn't fill the screen
5) no battery percentage indicator
6) On rotation each bar stays at there respective position.
7) lock screen differs from tabletUI as there is only top bar not the bottom one.
PhoneUI:
1) Samsungs's beautiful blue theme is seen.
2) UI almost same as PhabletUI with each bar on either side of the screen
3) Notification fills the home screen like what happen in a phone
4) When orientation changed to landscape, the Bottom action bar shifts to the right
5) Gestures in the bottom bar used to open google ow is not present.
6) Battery indicator is blue in color while it is green on the other two modes
7) When connected to PC via USB, Battery indicator neither shows a cross mark nor it shows charging.
8) Settings menu now don't have the dual panel
9) Camera icon replaced by android icon
100 Camera app is crashed
I also see a little performance boost when in phoneUI made.. may be because of no TouchWiz mode.
[Note:
Remember to install a launcher before changing the LCD density because it will make your TouchwizUI to crash and you will not able to select your apps from the app drawer.
Rather you can also put your build.prop editor in the homescreen shortcuts so than you can use it from there. but make it before the changes, you will not be able to make changes in homescreen shortcuts as it is a part of TouchWiz home and on opening, it will crash.
Your replies are appreciable.

Easiest way to change modes is to use a custom ROM. AOKP being the better choice. DPI changer built into the ROM If you wish to add a custom theme ( set it to 159, default being 160) and you can switch modes via ROM control and a quick reboot. I'm sure the OP knows what hes doing , just giving some advice to less experienced users.

I know that custom roms have better control on modes but the motive of this post to tell others that we already have the three modes with us along with the two themes ON STOCK ROM.
For those who don't want to shift to a custom rom or argue that we lost our UI after updates. This post is for them.

I agree with you totally , but the amount of threads in this forum where people have messed with stuff not knowing what they are doing are plenty. Hey I was one of them when I joined the forums :crying: I've had bootloops by the dozen and even totally bricked a device by flashing the wrong thing on to it , an expensive mistake to make.
I actually like the stock ROMs , just that i prefer total control over the ROM i use, a personal choice ....same as yours ! I was just offering advice to new users. Basically make sure you know what you are doing before you do it or use something that's designed for the job if you dont.
Finding out how to recovery from a bootloop and how to restore a device from a nandroid is a must.
I do find it strange why people stay on stock , not even with root access.Surely that's what the spirit of Android is about, what makes our tabs different from the locked down nature of the iPad. Obviously its the users choice as they paid for the device , just an observation.
Have fun with your DPI

we won't learn to stand unless we fall.
okie I was infant about the bootloops. but I've learned from it.
I've previously use many custom roms and flashed my xperia many times. even bricked it a lot. Flashed , bricked and recovered.
I guess thats how u learn.
and regarding staying at stock was because this tab and its TouchWiz is new to my hand and want to learn it before trying something.
Trust me custom roms are not so far from me.
Amen brother ! If you have never had a bootloop you're not an Android fan
I actually got the phone UI by mistake on AOKP M1 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33898491&postcount=440 ,seems really strange on a tablet. But was fun messing with it. As for stock....Just about to flash the new official-ish JB on to my tab and give it a spin , be rude not to IMO.
Get a custom ROM on your tab you will love it, what you got to lose ? Can always flash back.

Tablet UI all day long
Have: Nexus 6P stock 6.0.1. Need: some customization. Items in green have a solution.
I've enabled Developer Mode and System UI Tweaker. I'd like to do this without root, or anything that would affect individual Google Play-installable apps. (The reason is, I need this device for final user release testing, so it should be what users have just from factory reset + install apps and normal OS upgrades):
Different wallpaper on Lock Screen than behind icons and widgets. (Tried: http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...-lock-screen-wallpaper-help-how-can-i-do.html - No triple dot menu visible in Wallpaper)
Full brightness on Lock screen instead of 90%, independent of brightness settings. ("OK" option: same brightness as manual brightness in Settings) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/home-lockscreen-brightness-t1704705 - no Lock Screen Options in Settings)
Disable peeking globally. ("OK" option: put them in the statusbar like 4.4.4) (I don't want to disable peeking for every new app I install: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Here...ifications-in-Android-6.0-Marshmallow_id75408) Temporary solution: I will manually disable peeking for every new app that shows them.
Global saturation setting for icons. (They're all saying "click ME!", that's an icon designer's job. With an excellent high-contrast screen like this, it's a crowd shouting.) ("OK" option: some other way of getting icons to look more Zen.) Icon packs for launchers are that "OK option", browsing tons on Google Play left Hexacon and Dual Shadow. So Hexacon.
Remove the Google Now bar from my Home Screen (without disabling any services). (As in, I taught the device my voice, so I don't need it there for me to tap. Tried: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-remove-the-google-search-bar-from-your-android-homescreen - it's not long-tappable nor draggable, nor does it appear under Google Apps in Widgets.) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
I'd like to be able to do this:
Some quick way (preferably swipe) to access a more compact Quick Settings widget, like on my Xperia Z. I've reduced it to 9, can't remove "Invert Colors" and Location toggles.
Global Night Mode for everything in the System UI - to make it look similar to the Quick Settings. (This is a "like to" only because it's been promised in N. I really need it like, now. ) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
Basically I have the greatest phone, so I want it to look good at all times, and with the aim Clean, Fresh, Zen.
I posted here bc the forum was most specific. Feel free to refer or advise me how to best get answers as I joined tonight.
Any & all advice on single questions is appreciated Not possible is a valid answer, and I'm also prepared to wait for N if that's the answer.
I used to think of "ok google" as a novelty but its become more polished and if it remains reliable Ill continue to use it more& more. As it applies to keeping things clean it sort of does eliminate need for extra widgets.
If you have ok google everywhere u can just say " ok google...launch settings". Same goes for music apps, podcasts, youtube videos etc.
Started using a new app other day you might like called sesame edge. I set it on the right edge, virtually invisible and it brings up quick access to apps.

I dont use a lockscreen but on Pure Nexus which Im using now there is an option to set lockscreen wallpaper.
I use action launcher 3 which doesnt allow me to remove google bar (i dont think) but nova will let u do that. I like the bar cuz on action launcher i can put several shortcuts for whatever i want.
ASAP launcher is very minimal. Again you cant REMOVE the bar but swipe down and it turns into a simple clock widget.

Thx, tried Nova and it gives me Night Mode. Thanks for that Still, no way to have a different wallpaper on the lock screen than on the home screen, and I can find no Prime option for it either. Pure Nexus requires CM.
Can I mix and match this type of apps? Will they interfere with each other? Sesame seems to work with Nova at least.
What about Hi Locker? http://android.wonderhowto.com/how-to/get-back-lock-screen-customization-android-lollipop-0160204/
Can custom lock screens lock me out of my phone, make me butt dial, hog battery? I just want to change the gdmn background!
As I wrote, if some feature comes in N I'd rather wait than mess up my new phone.

Seems Im constantly tweaking things and having problems recalling exactly what I used. I know making lockscreen different from desktop is something Ive done many times. Do u have xposed? Pretty sure gravitybox has that option.
As far as butt dials, I use sweep to wake & it was a problem. Always remember to put it in your pocket screen facing out. I also need to do that when using bt headphones or else i get distortion. Anyways if i find something relevant Ill let u know.
Thx for suggestions!
I want weather, clock, and a background that matches my high-end case on the lock screen AND NOTHING ELSE, and then wherever there are icons I want a neutral background or just a color so I can see them properly. I think that's being a normal user with sensible demands.
Right now a huge dark gray or white slate COVERS the background anyway. I don't mind it, it lets me see the icons of all manner of variety and quality against something neutral, still... just allowing a background to set behind your icons seems to be an easy addition... since Froyo... Anyway, end rant about Simple Things. Android at least lets you customize them.
I'm battling notifications now. Light Manager is recommended for the 6P - testing it out now for notifications that are actually important, will report.
back in 2014 i started on a ui design i called symetiumos, i was able to find a team to make it into a launcher but i ended up getting scammed by them they simply left me with it in a very broken unusable state, i released the launcher on the playstore and despite it being broken the response has been overwhelming, so far it has nearly 5 stars and over 300 downloads, i am looking for someone that can help me finish the launcher and fix it's bugs
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.symetium.ui.launcher&hl=en
this is a full list of everything thats remaining some things can be skipped such as automatic appsorting or the modes system (modes system works by combining two identical settings screens into one, it's like backing up your settings on a random launcher, my launcher would have two settings screens one for portrait one for landscape it would use each depending on orientation it's like a launcher that has portrait and landscape settings for grid, but my launcher has it for the entire settings screen, so if you set the color layer to red in portrait and green in landscape then it will be green when you flip the phone, because the launcher changes to a new settings screen in landscape, it's like if you kept backups of multiple settings configs then have the launcher flip between them, each mode uses two settings screens identical ones only difference being what the user adjusts them to.
the main bugs are
1.full appdrawer needs to be replaced or repaired it lags, the icons in it are offcentered, the full appdrawer button needs to be 4 dots, it should be pullable down right now you need to press the x to close it you should be able to pull it down like any other appdrawer, if you set it to disabled then the button should not be visible any more.
2.the "system" category needs to be removed it lags and it shouldn't be there, the team added it based on a guess.
3.when scrolling through apps the dockmenu can close itself this is a bug
4.you should be able to scroll all around the dockmenu so when you get to the end category it scrolls back to the homescreen like you'd expect and vice versa meaning if you scrolling the other side you will enter the dockmenu from the last category rather than first, right now it blinks out rather than scrolling
5.homescreen appdock needs work right now it's pretty limited you can't set any icons or even what the current icons do, it also needs a button to enable or disable it
6.a menu needs to be made for customization of categories
7.homescreen needs the standard pinch menu to get to the launcher settings button, wallpaper button etc
8.launcher needs a general settings section with the following options
enable/disable navigationbar (this simply enables or disables the navigationbar in the current mode and orientation)
enable disable statusbar (this simply enables or disables the stock android statusbar in the current mode and orientation)
enable disable persistent statusbar (this makes it easy or difficult to reveal the statusbar, right now it's difficult and you can't do anything about it)
enable disable persistent navigationbar (this makes it easy or difficult to reveal the navigationbar, right now it's difficult and you can't do anything about it)
9.the launcher should not resize itself depending on dpi all sizes should be available on any device and any dpi, the launcher needs a "dockmenu size" option under dockmenu where the user can set any size that is available through different dpi's, size settings needs to work for the custom statusbar as well, the dock has many more size options through dpi changes rather than the size options in settings so add all these options in settings and prevent it from resizing itself depending on dpi
automatic dpi resizing can be ok if it chooses a setting from the settings menu, just like when windows chooses a resolution thats recommended) the user should be able to have any size they want on any device regardless of dpi, if automatic then it should simply choose a size thats available in the settings.
10.color layer bugs not filling properly and the dock glitching out sometimes where the home icon dissappears and the dot no longer works.
these are the most of whats broken.
full list of whats remaining is below, if anyone wants to help me finish my launcher please let me know.

Brand new Nokia 5 updated to 8.1: icons on the desktop are on a 5x5 grid and quite small. Font overall is fine - this is just on the desktop. I know I could use another launcher but any way to fix this with the stock launcher?
Maybe you can clear the data of the Launcher...
But if you do this the layout of the apps gets delete.
You must go into the settings of your Nokia 5, than go to "apps & notifications", than "see all apps" and than you must select the option, that you can see system apps. There you search for "Launcher3" and clear it's data.
Maybe this will be working for you :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up going to the store where I got it and saw another model which looks the same so that's just how it is.. It's strange cause I've owned quite a few Android phones and this one's desktop icons are the smallest by far. Maybe something to do with the tall & narrow dimensions.
