As i can't post on the developers forum, let's do it here....
I'm coming from Jamals 4.3 Google edtition for Samsung Galaxy S4, i want to install the Jamals 4.2.2, i tried but im stuck on the google logo... let me guess, maybe my recovery is too old? Teamwin recovery. or i need to flash another kernel or something like that?
Did you do a full wipe? I highly recommend it. And upgrade your recovery indeed. Latest version is 2.6.3.1. You can find it here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/182 no other kernel required. But like I already said, do a full wipe

You don't need to post in the development forums for this. You are asking a question, questions unsurprisingly go in the Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting forum
answer
I tried that.. didn't work for me. Well i gave up and did a factory reset now all i want is to get a "phone" back. I'm trying to flash a stock firmware with odin versions 1.58 & 3.09 still no work..... Odin keeps freezing/crashes after just typing "please wait...." and now im confused, well, just trying to get the crap phone back on track again.... Any Clues!?

Searched the entire XDA forum and couldn't find a thread like this one (at least one that explains what i want to accomplish). Let's cut to the chase...
CyanogenMod7.1 - i've got it and i used it and i don't like it (don't ask me why, maybe i used touchwiz for too long so i got accustomed to it ), so i want my original kernel and ROM back... And I know exactly which ones to use , got them downloaded right here. The thing is - I'm not sure how to do it. Should i use clockworkmod recovery and flash it? Should i use RomManager? Should i use Odin? Any help from someone who has done would be appreciated.
And also , one more question... Somewhere i found a comment by a guy that says that if i was to flash back original ROM and kernel i would still be stuck with a custom recovery. Can anyone explain that too ?
If by ANY chance a thread like this exists I'm sorry i opened a new one ( I really did search for a long time ). Cheers everyone

Hey, im pretty sure your answer has been answered many times before in guides how to flash ROMs.
You haven't stated what ROM you were on previous so i will assume that it was stock.
if you are flashing a full stock ROM use Odin, look at the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
It has a full guide to which files go where to get back to your stock rom and kernal.
ps. the comment you mentioned, that person might have been referring to a custom ROM, if you chose to flash a custom rom based on stock then you would stay with a custom recovery.

Thanks for the reply, I know about intratech's thread , that's where i downloaded my stock from. The thing is I wasn't sure which way to do it. I read more about recovery last night and i found out that on sgsII it is linked to the rom, so basically when i flash a stock rom and a stock kernel using odin i would get the normal - default recovery partition? Should I wipe data/cache before flashing back the stock ?

If you downloaded from Intratechs post you will get a stock rom with a stock kernel, this will give you a default recovery. All of the downloads there are 100% samsung so there wont be anything modded or changed.
You wont have to wipe data/cache before you do it as when flashing via odin you will be putting your phone in to download mode and odin will do the rest.
Just make sure to read the guide in Intratechs thread to the letter.
My advise to you for the future is to read up completly before flashing something just so you arent stuck with something you dont like on your phone.

Flashed it and all is fine now... Altough i did get an infinite boot loop so i had to wipe data/cache anyway for the phone to boot properly... So I guess it wouldn't hurt to do it before flashing stock... Btw i knew what i was flashing , i wanted to try it out... Ty for the reply
I have a rooted MK2 device. I tried installing CWM through ROM Manager but my phone will not boot the CWM and when I try it comes up with an error.
It seems to be installing a Loki'd version of CWM recovery will solve the problem, but I don't how to flash loki recoveries and I've looked all over the forums for one specific to loki'd recoveries. Can someone help me out please? I'm relatively new at this so I'm totally unsure about how to proceed. Many thanks!
Sadly, no custom recoveries are currently available for MK2.

Oh no Well I have a few questions then.
1. I would like to install a 4.4 Google Edition rom. Is there any way for me to accomplish this? Also, is it a bad idea to go ahead and flash it without a recovery?
2. Should I revert the recovery back to original? How would I go about doing that?

There isn't anything you can do so far. The only thing you could do is use an app I can't remember the name of to flash mods to your current system, but you can not flash ROMs and definitely not anything that may need a different kernel. If you want to get a working recovery then find the MJ6-MJ9 thread but only use the recovery tar file, not the rest of it.

well.....if you were on MF3 then you could load safestrap and then get the google edition but it wont support the 4.4 only the 4.2.2 version of the GE
thats what i did. i highly doubt there will be an unlocked bootloader for MK2 im on mf3 and cant even update to 4.3 MK2.....ill ask the developer of safestrap and ask him because he was getting a MK2 galaxy s4 on att last week and he was doing some testing....or you can do some research your self but im happy to help even though my account says im a junior member i know quite a lot....
if safestrap works here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448726
IF SAFESTRAP WORKS LOOK UP A GUIDE ON HOW TO USE IT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE BECAUSE I TOLD YOU ABOUT IT also dont use the stock rom slot if all this works

No question too stupid. But asking a question that has been answered hundreds of times and refusing to use the search button...
I'm currently running on 4.3 on my S4 and i'm having trouble finding a way to install CWM on my phone. I Downloaded ROM Manager and tried installing it through the app but when I boot into recovery mode, it just shows the regular recovery mode not CWM. So then I went to the official CWM website and downloaded the latest CWM but it comes as a .img and I don't know how to install that. Can somebody show me how to install it?

I'm not that dumb, I've tried that. I guess I should be more specific. every method I find i get an error or it doesn't work. So if you know how to that would be great
You really do need to search, its not that hard. CWM isn't available for your Galaxy S4, and probably never will be. They are working on bringing safestrap which allows some custom roms to be installed on your device.
Samsung and AT&T have really cracked down on rooting and custom recoveries. Those who got the S4 early on who didn't update are still able to flash roms through CWM.

Obviously you haven't. There is no custom recovery available for an AT&T S4 with a release later than MDL.
It's all over the forums. A simple search would have gotten you that, and in the process you may have learned the answer to your next question as well.
I want to flash sacs kitkat custom rom (*V5*) or newer for Sprint Galaxy S4.
Anyone can give me the links for this rom and its mods or themes?
I searched this forum but have not find it.

That is because discussion of sacs updates are NOT allowed on XDA. So it has moved to another location (website). More than likely this thread will be closed.

I saw on the dev subforum that you had trouble flashing the 4.4 super s4 rom. I couldn't reply there since I'm new here. But I had the same issue, couldn't flash with Philz recovery. I installed standard TWRP and that worked! Try that, if you haven't yet. I love this ROM! I should also mention that I have everything updated to NAE.

Finally l flashed super s4 ROM... With cwm 6.0.4.4 recovery.
But the sacs rom attracted me more because of Galaxy S5 theme and icons.
And Super S4 rom removed some stock apps that important for me like S Health app.
I fed up with flashing roms.
So i returned to unknownforce's stock nae rom and waiting for any new rom to make my s4 look like s5.
Would be nice if someone could supply a link. Not sure why it's not discussed on here and guess what... I don't care to know cause it ain't my business, but non the less I would like to check it out, so if someone could be so kind.
I do not know for sure what happened either but I do know that discussing this will result in making moderators a wee upset as Daniel4653 said above. However, if I were looking for Sac's Custom Rom and could not get a direct link from anyone, I think I would go to google and search for a key phrase but that's just me.
In android development in sacs custom 4.4.2 somewhere on some page is a link you might be looking for
Pardon the noobishness.
My 4.3 was rooted via towelroot and has Nova launcher,
as I have read for months about recoveries, ROM's, Kernels, bootloaders etc
and am more confused than when I first looked into rooting!
3 days ago I decided to flash my stock ROM so that I could update from 4.3 TO 4.4.2 VIA kies.
Immediately I was underwhelmed!
My phone turned itself off randomly.
The K on the kit katkat screen did not spin.
I lost my root, so I thought I would try and re flash the i9505XXUEMK9. Odin said in yellow "failed".
I waited about 15 minutes and nothing was happening and unplugged, big mistake,
the screen had a yellow picture, oh FUDGE!
So I took it to the Samsung Store in Sydney and I was lucky enough that the store was empty and a tech came up to me(!?)
I didn't have a reciept, but I told him the story and he said he could help.
He connected it to his laptop and asked me what carrier, and 10 minutes later,
phone was working and he had flash the Optus logo onto it
I was so happy!
When the phone booted up there was the towelroot and Titanium apps on the screen, but he didn't even care
I take it home, towelroot doesn't work, so I investigate, and the answer is Chainfire, all good.
The stress of it all!
Then I decide to hell with a custom ROM, I found Xposed with Gravitybox
and spent all arvo trying to make it work and Nudda!
Are my dreams of custom ROMS over??
As I am really wanting a hybrid S5 ROM!
I'm so lost!
I back up with titanium. I don't understand why I would need CWM, TWRP or Philz?
Then, the wiping process, dalviks?
Then I know how to flash with Odin.
I would really appreciate if someone knows a comprehensive tutorial or just to be pointed in the direction of my
knowledge blackholes, I feel that I'm close to being full circle!
I really want the S5, Note 3/4 features but I can't afford the upgrade.
Any advice or comments will be appreciated
Indeed, based on your story you are a big noob (no offence). You tried to flash a 4.3 rom while you were already on 4.4.2. That's impossible.
So what do you want? A custom rom?
- Flash a custom recovery
- Flash the rom with the custom recovery
It's so easy.
And Gravitybox? You should read more. That's not for a TW based rom. It clearly states that in big letters.
Thanks
Thanks for stating the obvious Lenny.
I want a hybrid S5 Rom.
Do I just have to download the ROM then flash it?
I don't understand why I couldn't just re flash 4.3?
Thanks
Yes download and flash.

OK.
I have flashed CWM 6.0.4.4.
I don't see the point of that though.
Next is to download a custom ROM and flash that?

I recommend you flash TWRP or Philz Recovery for avoid problems.
