I did this once too. Here's the apk file. Move it into your /system/app/ folder and change the permissions. Then Restart.

I think I may need the same thing. I have a Samsung Moment SPH-M900 and anytime someone on AT&T sends me a text it comes in a foreign language and all other texts are in english. I have no idea as to what the problem may be. Do you think this will fix the problem.

Hello @mrcblake I am not sure I would look up this problem in the Samsung Moment forum not the droid X forum.

I have searched far and wide, and have been unable to find a solution, but I am sick of the SMS/MMS included in the stock Samsung rom. The lack of Hyperlink support kills me... Any way to get the stock messaging app working or any roms which have the stock messaging app?
Try Handcent in the market. I use it over the stock MMS.

Really, you searched far and wide?
It seems to me like you probably didn't actually use the "search" function at all.
If you had, you very quickly would have found this thread, that I originally started, about stock 2.1 apps working on the vibrant, heck it was only at the bottom of page 2 of this very forum, not buried under hundreds of threads/pages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731822
If you had honestly searched, and replied in that thread, I probably would have even typed out everything step-by-step again, for like the 50th time to help make sure you get it installed correctly, but wow, now I'm just getting annoyed.
Sigh, I totally understand why so many DEV's don't ever respond here anymore. =(

Just get hand cent or chompsms from the market. Then in the stock messaging app turn off notifications and in chomp or hand cent turn them on.
i am using handcent.. works flawless for me.. never have any lag time and/or force close.. i want to get rid of the stock sms also but i have not found anything here yet..
EDIT: I remove the mms.apk and mms.odex from the system/app folder.. now i don't see the mms icon and just using Handcent..

Then busybox cp the vanilla MMS app to /system/app
The end.
You can open hyperlinks in the sms/mms app included on the phone. Tap the message and you can then tap on the hyperlink to open it in your browser
So much fail in one thread, ha.

Version 1.5.1 now available. It seems to be the same as version 1.5 that came out a couple of weeks back, except this version doesn't revert back to version 1 when you restart the phone - so a pretty fundamental improvement there.
thx for the news .. i'm happy i didnt got that prob from the begining
Oh yeah. Thanks for the news. Why did convert in the first place?
GT-I9000
Got it... But no changes since version 1.5 at all ?

Not showing on my UK Galaxy S either.
Anyone have the .apk file
Mine was downloaded when I updated to JM1, I didn't have to do anything, it was just there.

Hi guys,
This is the apk for Task Manager 1.5.1. Fetched this from Samsung apps on JM8. Hope this helps!
How come it says application not installed when I try to install it?

For some reason I can't install it. What do I do?

Apologies guys, was stupid enough to upload the wrong apk! Updated my initial post with the correct one. Try it and let me know if it works better... well at least it won't be worse
wtf permissions?
I was going to install the 1.5.1 release from the Samsung app store, but finally held back: The permissions it's asking for are not quite to my liking.
This app requires each and every permission there is, e.g. change UI settings, send SMS and MMS, make telephone calls, read emails, change APN settings, change global system settings...
Did all of you ignore this, or were you shown other permission requests?

Noticed that as well, but it's the first update I installed for the Task Manager. I assumed it already had those permissions, and decided to trust Samsung. Some might argue it's not such a good idea
There are more apps in the Samsung store that require odd permissions and I just called Samsung Mobile Germany to ask the supporters why this is.
Not that I expected anything else, but what I was told is just wrong.
I was told the following:
- These applications are from Google (i.e. programmed by Google)
- These permissions are set in Google accounts
- this is no risk as the applications for 100% sure won't make calls or send SMS / MMS
This is so poor as a support answer... And a really poor programming style as well, 'cause it contradicts the idea that programmers should only require those permissions in their manifest that are acually needed.
Not gonna install that crap anyway. What if Samsungs servers are hacked and distributing modified versions of these applications? They're not gonna pay my excessive cellphone bill, should this be true, aren't they?

It's showing on my UK Galaxy S, what firmware do you have?
Hopefully this is the right spot for this, I'm working on just a super basic rom for myself. Was wondering if anyone had a Mms.apk that doesn't send long sms's as one thread. From what I've seen if someone sends a text message that is longer then 160 characters it tries to send it as one thread (like how it would work on a GSM network) instead of breaking it up into multiple sms messages which causes the person who it was sent to come out all funny like this.
"@ [email protected] (rN#Y!? i2N' ` #K9NQ t{&Az<[email protected] /g: Se hrN#T!7 iP q? IpO t{&Az<[email protected] /g: Se hrN#T!? i O p KK9^K p;NAz<[email protected] /g: Se hrN#T!? i O p #K9NE |{'K9 G } /g"
I know this can be fixed using handsent sms and in the settings change it so it breaks up the message. But was wondering if there was a modified stock Mms.apk floating around that I could just throw in /system/app.
Thanks!
Wrong section.
Pull the one out of cm7.

No worries Gotta learn somehow.
What's the best way to get Emoji's working? Being able to see them would be nice... but just sending them would be fine. Anyone have a way of doing this? I know about Handcent/GO SMS emoji extensions but I like the stock TW messaging app, so I don't wanna do that.
EDIT: Also, I'm talking about being able to send them everywhere (Messaging, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Seeing them everywhere would also be a plus as mentioned above
Well if you don't want to use a different messaging app, then you have to replace the system font with one that has emoji support I believe.
Edit: Or you can flash the zip here for the default android emoji http://www.androidcoliseum.com/2013/06/how-to-get-422-emoji-keyboard-on-your.html

Well from 4.1 and up you should be able to see it by default because they baked it into jellybean. That's where the keyboard comes from. Color though, good luck with that one

My friend was sending me em... and I saw all of them except for a few. Did that little trick in the post I mentioned above, and went back into my messaging app and was able to see every single one! And yeah I know I wish we could do that somehow!

i clicked on the s3 link you referred to. the xml file is no longer downloadable but i was able to grab the 9.83mb font file. So all you did was replace the original droidsansfallback with the modified 9.83mb file one and rebooted your phone?
I tried doing that and still cannot see received iphone sms emojis. (i can see emojis on all other apps besides the sms apps, including Handcent + emoji plugin)

Had the exact same thing... This happens when you change your dpi. Am now trying some values to see if there's one that keeps the mail client to function properly
(tried 400,410, 420, 424, 430, 440, none of them worked, for now I'm switching back to 420 and be done widdit)
