Is it just me or everyone else that is experiencing a super long time in charging their phone to full battery? I am running the froyostone latest build and I have already followed all the guides in this forum to save battery life. The issue I am having is that it takes many hours to recharge the battery to full when connected to a wall charger.
It took 5 hours to go from 30% battery to 90%.
*no i wasn't charging the phone with the phone turn off*

I have a stock battery, which I can charge from 25% or less to 100% in about 30 minutes to an hour. I think there is something wrong with your charger.
its actually not taking that long, it probably got to 90% VERY quickly, you just checked on it later... they're false numbers... what you need to do is this; run your battery all the way down.. then charge it for about 1-2hrs, until it gets somewhere in the 90's then, while plugged in, shut the phone down, remove the battery, put the battery back in, boot up the phone (the phone should remain plugged in) then load up WM, load up android with the hard buttons backlight on, then once it boots you should show higher than what you had before (if not 100%) from this point android will remember your charge and you will be able to go to 100% all the time now. (until you load a new rom)

I got stock battery also. No idea why it taking so long.

I am using hastarin r8 kernel, but I was experiencing the same issue with previous versions and the default kernel.
I just tested the charging rate by connecting my HD2 to a stock charger from HTC which I borrowed from a friend. Charging was a lot faster.
Since I bought my HD2 used, the charger that came with it, is not the stock charger from HTC.
But I still don't understand what is causing the charging to be very slow.
How to calculate charging time
Charging time = capacity of battery x 1,4 / charging current
HD2 stock battery= 1230mAh x 1,4 / 1000mA = 1,7 hours

Two things on charging batteries:
1) First, make sure none of the pins in the battery compartment is bent. This dramatically slowed charging for me once.
2) Android keeps battery stats in a file that gets loaded with your build. THese stats are often wrong. Be sure to fully charge under WinMo, then with power still attached, boot into Android. This will adjust some of the stats and charging in Android should be fine then. There's a thread somewhere on more details here if you want to tweak your stats. The battery slows down its charging when it gets close to the full state. If for some reason your charger thinks the temperature is getting too high or the state is getting near full it dramatically slows the charging rate. Both of these could be erroneous interpretations of the battery data. Also, if you have an extended battery, make sure to use a Kernel that is compatible with extended batteries, like Hastarin 7.x.

Not all chargers are built the same. Some usb charger provide more juice while others provide less. Maybe your non stock charger came from a non smart phone...

Current Widget from the Market can tell you how many mA your phone is getting when it's charging.
this is just an approximation formula. a lithium ion battery charger is more sophisticated than this. it first brings battery voltage up to 20% safely (because any voltage below this is the harmful zone of operation), then it stuffs the battery at full capacity upto 80%. then in the 3rd stage, the current drops linearly with time.
over the past year, my stock battery gives me the following profile:
20-80% -> 1 hour (800-820ma constant, unless phone is awake)
80-100% -> 1 hour (800 -> 0ma)
by 100% i mean 0ma charge current. not 100% on the battery icon. you should be aware that the battery is still charging even after the indicator reaches 100%. but the current is insignificant (10-20ma)
even though the charger is rated at 5v 1A, it supplies only 820ma current at the maximum. this is normal. also for a lion battery the safe operating regions are around 20-90%. by safe i mean prolonging battery life. this roughly corresponds to 3.6v - 4.0v. avoid overcharging your battery frequently.
also someone mentioned current widget as a good approximate tool to study battery performance. you might also want to delete batterystats.bin and condition your battery once (i.e. fully discharge and fully recharge). this will force android to re-determine the new 0% and 100% levels. search the android forums for this.

Is it bad to let my charge over night overnight? I thought it would stop charging when it got full to avoid overhanging.

Since I have access to a a battery simulator and charger... the best way to recondition a battery is:
1. Create a low battery scenario by lowering the input voltage to just a hair above 2.7 volts (I had to create a shim to get to the battery receiver leads).
2. Boot with full 4.2 and in ClockWork remove battery stats
3. Drain and Charge battery to 4.2
I get enterprise email and I get a lot of mail daily that I have to read and respond to (150 or more -- no I don't respond to all of them), plus the phone calls, RSS reading and some texting plus a pic here and there and maybe a couple of you tube videos. I get more than 24 hours until the 15 % comes up. 50 hours would be nice but that did not even happen in my black berry with Edge only.
Mine improve 3 fold from sub 7 hours to 24 plus (yes I sleep late so probably the phone gets a 6 hour rest but the enterprise email and text is pushed down even then as I work with folks from Asia and Europe as well.

Yes, the "charger" that you plug into the wall is just a power supply, the actual "charger" is in the phone, and when it detects the battery is full it stops charging.

Well, since I purchased my Note 2, I kept facing this slow charging problem. Now what is slow charging some of you will ask? Well, it's simple. The device is taking more than normal time for charging. Now how do you know the default/should be rate for charging? Simple again. The AC adapter clearly says output rate as 2000 mA or 2.0 A. So with that calculation Note 2's monstrous 3100 mAh should be fully charged with 2 hours. But as we've seen steady 2.0A is not the output case in some/many scenario, so add another 30 mins to it. So whatever it is, from 0-100%, the device shouldn't take more than 2 hours 30 minutes.
And for me, it was taking around 5 hours! Sometimes 4 hours 30 minutes, and if it's very fast then 4 hours. Well I was never gonna wait 4 damn hours before going to my office and irritate myself, and I don't have the habit of charging overnight, unless I absolutely need it.
So I kept calling my retailer, asked for replacement, and they did, well, you won't believe, they replaced three times actually, so I had three different Note 2, with three different charger. Well, each of them acted absolutely fine at first 3-4 charge, then the problem was back again and again. I in fact turned off the device and put it into trash once.
Then I thought let's try some different USB cables, I tried my friend's Galaxy Ace cable. Charging current kept fluctuating between 1000-1200 mA. Which was better than those faulty stock cables, which provided steady 900 mA. Sometimes it even was detecting the AC current as USB, which would provide a mere 460 mA and would take God knows how long! Then I found my piece. I went to my retailer, frustrated and angry, asked them to give me the thickest and shortest possible cable, and they provide me one from a Samsung phone's box, but I can't recall which device was that! And then I sat there for half an hour, kept plugging and unplugging, and the current rate was rock steady at 1800 mA. I took it, paid just 10$ and came back.
Since then I have charged my phone almost 10 times and the current rate never went below 1800 mA / 1.8 A.
This is the cable I am using, do notice that it has 5 pin set up against stock cable's 4 pi, if that matters in any way, and it's about 10% thicker than the stock cable and also about 9" shorter.
And how will you monitor the charging current, three ways are there,
1- Battery Monitor (yet I don't know how to exactly use it)
2- If you are rooted (which is a must anyway), then just go to, /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_avg
3- Use the app from the link below. It basically reads the current value just exactly as above but it saves the time to go into that file every time. A big thanks to Deadvirus.

The included cable charger that mine came with charges fast like that, I let it charge slow with standard USB port overnight, but the included charger nd included cable should achieve this. The cable is important.

Same here, it's done within about 2 hours every time, from ~1%. Something definitely must have gone wrong with yours :s

You are amazingly right. Every charger/cable combo I test seems to deliver different currents, according to the app you posted, ranging from 600 to 1300 (mA?).
Didn't know that could happen. Now I am looking for the Holy Grail of chargers, too.
After some tests: original chargers of Note 2 and Tab provide 1800 mA; no-brand Chinese labeled 1500 gives 1400; one Nokia labeled 1200 gives 1300, another, labeled 1200, gives 1200. Puro brand, labeled 2100, gives 1100. Another Chinese, no-brand, labeled 2000, double usb, gives 1100 per socket. Other no-brand samples give 600 or 300 mA.
Enormous variability.
Think I'll use the 1800 mA Samsung for when I'm out, and the good Nokia's for overnight charging when home.

For me...
Stock charger + stock short cable (0,9 m) = ~2+ hours
Stock charger + some other cable (1,8 m) = ~4+ hours
,don't know about thicknes. Mb stock cable is thicker, or at least harder to bend.

Thanks for the APK, I found a huge variance in charging rates based on a combination of chargers and cables. Goes to show that the cable makes a huge difference. Here's my findings:
** Stock Charger (2A):
w/Stock Cable (4-pin) - 1698
w/Cable from another phone (5-pin) - 1698
w/Cable from battery pack (5-pin)- 1698
w/generic eBay cable (4-pin)- 100! - It didn't charge at all, even with screen off.
** iPhone Charger (1A):
w/Stock Cable (4-pin) - 1300
w/Cable from another phone (5-pin) - 1100
w/Cable from battery pack (5-pin) - 1300
w/generic eBay cable (4-pin) - 100!
** Car Charger (1A):
w/another generic eBay cable - 490
(Was running Redpill kernel, not sure if that has fast charging built in which might affect results).
The app is really helpful. Been wondering what the charging current was on different chargers.
I measured it using the app based on current AVG and not current NOW. This is because I used a 800ma blackberry charger and yet current now shows 1698 which is impossible.
The app will tell you which cables and chargers are good. I was shocked that out of my 8 cables only 3 gave an average of more than 1000, the rest give around 800 or less.

So, the AC adaptater mentionne 2A but it doesn't mean that your devuce consume 2A... It means that the AC adaptater can provide 2A under 5V.
If a load need to consume 500mA the adaptater can provide enough power. But if it needs more than 2A, the ouput current will be at the 2A max but your voltage will decrease (it means that you have a device problem!).
The only thing to do is to refer to the user manual of device.
One thing more, the USB protocole fix the maximun current to 1A!
An other thing, if you want to have a better battery life it recommended to charge your battery slowly. Just have the habit to charge it during the night.

I also got an lg very thick cable..which is also 5 pin and let me tell it charges REEEEAAAALLLLYYYY FAST..when seen in application posted in op(thanx) it shows 1800..but the problem is if I detach charging before battery full notification then the battery is consumed at very high rate..I.e battery life decreased or maybe shows fake battery percentage. .and if I go for full charge it takes half hour more after 100% to show battery full in notification. .

Yes, the stock charger doesn't provide full 2A current.
And is it true that if the device is charged slowly the battery backup will be better? I mean that would be good then. I'll try that, thanks for informing.

On my old cable, the damaged stock one, it'd take half an hour to reach 100% from 99. With this one it takes 5-6 mins.
This whole charging process is complicated that much I can say.

Unfortunately I got a grey import so my stock charger was for a different country.
I'm having to use a 1.0A charger instead.
It still only takes a few hours to charge though. I sleep for 4-5 hours and it's always fully charged when I wake up.

Hmm is this a accurate way of measuring amp?
I was using same cord and the apk provided above, using the default 2amp charger says 1697 and using a bellkin in charger rated at 1amp,says the same thing?

As I stated in the screenshot, you shouldn't look at current_now, it'll always be same, 1698, you should look at current_avg.

Just switched to a very old 0.7 A output charger my father uses on his primitive samsung device. It gives better results than my stock charger/USB cable, provided by samsung. 800 mA on a 700 mA charger. How is that even possible?

Yeah I am. The stock charger says 2A, 5V. When used with the stock cable it charges at a mere 200-400 mA. I used the wall charger of an old samsung phone (doesn't have a usb cable, just a wall charger) and current rises to 800mA. Where can I buy a good USB cable at in the UK?

I have buy a new stock charger because I was thinking my stock one was dead (slow charging / usb mode)...
But in fact it's not my stock charger who is defected but it's just the cable!!!
Just try with another cable and it's OK (AC mode).

I lost my Stock HTC Charger rated at 1 A output. I have read many threads and articles at batteryuniversity and misc places about how using a high amp output rated charger can deteorate cellphone (or any Li-Ion) battery over a period of time.
So I got this NewTrent USB charger, with two separate USB Ports: 1 USB Port at 1A and other at 2.1A
I plan to use the 1 A USB on a day to day basis and 2.1A port only when needed....
I checked on both the two Ports and here are the findings:
in 11 minutes time,
1A port charged only 3% of the battery
in same 11 min. time,
2.1A port charger 7% of the battery
I dont remember and have never measured the Stock HTC Charger in 11 minutes time. It would be greatly appreciated from all the xda-ians if they could check that in their respective HTC Ones and let me know so that I dont fry up the battery ....
PS - I read a lot about how cellphones only take the required Amps from a source but somehow, I found that to be BS...

The phone will only draw the current it needs, which is up to 1A.
It charges faster when the battery is more empty, so an 11minute test is useless unless you charge from the same percentage both times.
Also, HTC generally requires the data pins of the USB connection to be shorted in order to draw 1A. Otherwise it will draw 0.5A.
In my case, 49% - 52% in 1 A
52% - 59% in 2.1 A
In the case of charging faster when battery is more empty, I concur with you in the case if 90% and above (Slowest charging), however in my test case, 49% < 52%
It's not possible to charge more than 1 A on htc one. Only for a short time you can use more

The battery % is just an estimation, and not always a very good one. So just charging for 11 minutes and looking at the delta is a very bad way to figure out it how fast it charges. The best is ofc to measure the current, but if you can't do that you could see how long it takes to charge from 0 to 100 with both chargers.

its just gonna be useless without a proper kernel support
Last week I've installed a new usb port for my S4, because the old one broke. I know you will most likely think I've connected it poorly or whatever, but I don't think so, because I've had the slow charging issue before that.
I've got a couple of chargers. A Xiaomi 10.400 mAh charger, the original samsung AC charger, my nexus 7 charger, a Chromecast charger and a generic one from some store. The Xiaomi charger used to charge my phone quite fast. While playing Clash of Clans, on middle-high brightness I would still get about 1% every 2 minutes or so. Same with the nexus 7 one.
Right now however, it's struggling to get charged. It seems like the battery is draining faster than it's charging. But I've recently rooted my phone and installed the 5.0 GPE version rom, and my battery life has never been better. Recently got to 12h with about 2-3h SOT and still 60% left, which made me really happy. But if I charge it and use it, I only get about 1% every 10-15 minutes. Which kinda sucks.. (Right now, my s4 is on 87% and according to the lockscreen prediction thingy, it takes 1h06min to get to 100, while not using the phone)
Has anyone seen this problem before or knows how to fix it?

My phone also charged very slowly when connected to the PC.. This was on original firmware.
Now I'm using GPE ROM but I haven't charged it at a PC yet.
There are some options in the Googy Max settings regarding charging.

Nope, I charge it using a wallplug.
I must say it seems like my Xiaomi battery is charging my phone faster today. This afternoon it did about 30% an hour or something.
Edit: What it seems to be doing is charge fast at lower % battery, and charge slow on higher %. Is this a setting of something, perhaps?

I have an app called battery doctor which has 3 charging stages. From X% to 80% theres a fast charge, then from 80% to 100% it (supposedly) reduces the current to ensure a full charge (basically it charges slower from 80 to 100%). I don't know what difference there is in charging time in those 2 stages. But you say it happens on different roms so either you have recently installed an app like battery doctor or it's something else.
Have you tried charging the phone while it's turned off to see if it charges faster or same as before?

But you say it happens on different roms so either you have recently installed an app like battery doctor or it's something else.
Have you tried charging the phone while it's turned off to see if it charges faster or same as before?

The only apps with root acces I have are system tuner, titanium backup and adaway. I uninstalled System Tuner, will see if that helps. And the only other thing that could do it is Googy-Max Stweaks.
I just turned the setting Charge Control Switch from disabled to Substitute AC to USB and got 7 % in 14 min. I feel it's quite a bit faster now. Gonna check it out while having Clash of Clans running. If it's still charging at 1% every 5 minutes, ill be happy
Just tested it for a bit, and went from 45 to 60% in 22 minutes. So I'm happy again

2 Hour With Stock Charger
I didn't completely check the ratings and time but stock charger DOES NOT fast charge this phone. as the Stock Charger isnt QC2.0 Supported. However this mobile does support QC2.0 but you'll have to test QC2.0 Charger 1st. Not all QC2.0 Chargers work on this mobile. Its a little picky. So go to a shop check QC2.0 Chargers on your mobile. when you get circle Sign on notification bar along side battery then it means that device is fast charging. if not then there will be no circle around the charging sign (Flash sign)
also idt this mobile supports QC3.0 but i dont have tools to check amps volts of charger.
Lenovo's original QC3.0 charger doesnt work on this phone. I've tested. but Motorola's QC3.0 Charger works fine.
my rn5 pro , takes apporx 3 hours to charge completely!
So far I'm a bit slow, a little bit more than 3 hours to completely charge the phone. Might have something to do with the cable.

I just bought a Letv charger which supported qc3.0 for about 4$ on taobao
I'm currently on the 9.5.11 build and it takes about 4-5 hours to completely charge the device using stock charger, And it took about 2-3 hours while on 9.2 build.
I wonder if the Mi QC 3.0 based charger would improve the situation for us?

Slow charge is a known bug in 9.5.11 build. Wait for an update or change ROM

I recieved 9.2.13 update yesterday and have been noticing significant boost to charging speeds since then...yet to fully charge from 0 so can't comment on total time but as per Ampere, charging speeds are in range of 1500 to 1700 mah
1000 mA max with 5v 2amp and Work Normal Speed with Stock Charger
Approximately 2 hour for charge phone
I use the app Ampere (free in Playstore) to measure power input and with a normal charger (non QC) it shows up to 1600 mAh charging amount and from almost 0 to 100% it is taking 2,5 hours. One question: is there a way to tell if QuickCharge is active?

Look on your"s phone status bar. With normal charging there is thunder icon next to the battery. With QC active, thunder in in circle as far as I remember. Info about active QC should be also displayed in the bottom of your lockscreen

Using my usb inline meter, i'm getting ~6.5v and ~2.2A, with a Tronsmart usb cable and QC 3.0 Truro charger, screen off and about 44% remaining on battery. Will try when the battery is lower some other time.

I have no idea why would you do that... But read reviews, no matter what kind of charger you use, this phone only supports qc 2.0 version. From 0 to 100, in 1 hour, you only get like 55%, and in the end it slows down even more, so yes, impossible to fully charge in 1.5h, TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. You are either lying, or mixed times and got confused. Judging by technical parameters, the best this phone can do should be around 2hours from 0 to 100.

I just posted above that I was able to get QC 3.0 charging rates. Approximately 2.2A (fluctuates +/- 0.1A) and 6.6v (fluctuates +/- 0.2v) using a QC 3.0 charger and Tronsmart cable. Measured using an inline meter, not software.
