[Q] Help, twrp install, no boot - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have LG G2 vzw VS980. I was following this thread to try and install twrp.....now my phone won't boot, it flashes the LG splash screen for 1 second then goes blank, this repeats when power button is pressed.
Tried to attach via USB and the computer sees about 15 different removable disks and gives prompts to format them all.
Not sure what happened, but i can't get into the phone in any way shape or form!!
This is the thread i was following.....I tried to push it via adb but that wasn't working, so i tried to flash it with flashify and i think that is what has me borked....

[Q] TWRP Loop, Unable to get into Download mode

So i havent found anyone who has been able to get us out of this TWRP loop from the VZW OTA that we tried to install, and it also seems no one can get into download mode either. So I just wanted to open this thread up for instructions on how to solve this problem, if anyone can chime in here it would be a good guide for everyone without having to bounce around from thread to thread to find the answer
If someone already has a thread open for this please delete
Try this: unplug the phone from any connection, leave it unplugged and hold down the power button for 2 minutes no less than, and see if you can boot.

Thanks, but this just results in endless cycling between TWRP boot screen and LG screen, back and forth continuously while power button is held held down (tried it for well over 2 minutes while keeping an eye on my watch).
same here, same result, tried it for 3 min.
Ok i'll report back to the devs.
So there's no way to copy a file onto the phone while in recovery mode? If only this phone had an external SD card slot!
There will be a way to clear the OTA in TWRP, the devs have said so, we are just waiting on instructions

[Q] Verizon G2 Stuck in Bootloop

Hey Everyone, just got my G2 today and already have a problem. So naturally the first thing I did was root it, and after a few hours researching the nuances of doing that on a VZW model I got that to work. Next I went and downloaded Titanium and moved my backup files onto the phone, and restored my apps no problem. Then I went to restore my system info (just call logs, sms/mms, bluetooth pairings) and rebooted the phone only to get stuck in a bootloop (the VZW animation would just play over and over.) So I powered off the phone thinking something just went wrong with the reboot. When I went to turn it back on I started to get worried...
No matter what key combo I pressed I could not get the phone to power on. I decided to plug it in and thankfully it did come back on, but once again went into the bootloop. So I did some researching and tried every way to reflash the stock VZW firmware, but nothing has worked. I tried the KDZ method mentioned here, but I cannot get the B2CAppSetup.exe program to install (looks like LG has moved or revoked access to csmg.lgmobile.com:9002). So I moved to this post, but I cannot get the LG Flash Tool to start the flashing (when as instructed I unplug the phone and restart it in download mode again and plug it back in the Flash Tool just says "Waiting for Connection" and doesn't do anything.)
At this point I am out of ideas. I have a feeling that since I cannot even power the phone on unless its connected to USB/Power Adapter something is seriously wrong, but I have no idea what Titanium could have restored to cause this.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Did the same thing myself and nearly crapped myself. Here's how I got out of it:
Power down the phone (hold down power button)
Turn on phone by holding power & volume down buttons
When the LG screen comes up, let go of the buttons and then hold them down again
You should then get options to factory reset.
I will say this, I was never able to restore SMS or call logs from Titanium. Doing a few factory resets just made me stop caring.
Thanks for the reply, however no matter what key combo I press I cannot get the phone to power on unless it is plugged into USB/Power Adapter so I cannot get into the stock recovery app.
Any other ideas guys?

This happened to me while flashing as well.
You have to keep trying, the timing of exactly when to release the buttons and press them again is very precise, meaning you don't have much time at all.
It took me several tries to get it back to recovery.
I also only released just the power button, not both,
Good Luck!

Where you able to power your phone up by just pressing the power button (without it connected to anything)? That's what keeps throwing me off about this whole thing, without connecting it to something no matter what button(s) I press the phone simply will not do anything.

So I tried TWRP but ADB could not see the phone. As a last resort I tried the TOT restore method on the computer that I used to root it initially and it actually went through. Once 10B was restored it finally booted back up and OTA'd 11A and I was able to re-root it after that.
Lesson learned, next time I will not try to recover the phone using a difference laptop then I rooted it on.
Thanks for the help and suggestions guys!

OTA Bootloop Help

I have a Verizon LG G2 I tried to flash my backed up stock recovery with Flashify so I could flash the most recent OTA. After accepting the OTA update my phone restarted, tried to install the update, hung at a black screen but was still turned on. If I power it off and back on it shows the LG logo, some white text, then goes to the same black screen. What appears to be happening is that my backup recovery did not restore properly and it's hanging when it tries to go into recovery. It's almost like my recovery partition is blank.
I've tried to follow the instructions to flash back to stock, but I do not believe I'm actually able to get my phone into download mode. When it is plugged into my windows 7 computer with the LG drivers installed it shows up in device manager as QHSUSB_BULK.
Is there any way for me to push a stock recovery, or even a custom recovery to my phone so I can somehow salvage it, or am I permanently bricked?

I'm still trying to find a solution I will post here if i have any luck. I've dug through a lot of forum posts and I think what makes us unique is the fact that we have a corrupt or blank recovery partition.

Ive looked through a lot too. and its crazy how that would happen i made sure it was rebooting correctly before i took the ota and then when i did the ota bam! only screens i can get to come up are the hardware key control mode and the factory hard reset which both go to white screens after I do them both. every one else probably has not taken the ota.

One difference in what mine is doing and what your phone is doing. I go to a solid black screen not a white screen. It's very hard to tell my phone is even turned on. I'm having to look if the back-light to verify if it's on or not. I can hold my power button for 10 seconds through one LG logo cycle and then it turns off.

I hope someone helps us out. I really cant afford a new one because the warranty is void. I was going back to stock because of all of the little bugs that need to be ironed out in roms. cause kit kat is around the corner hopefully and my problem virtually is the same i might have had my brightness on auto or something prior to that.

Ignore all the message, unplug you phone get ready to type the command, plug it in and immediately press enter to run the command. it took some trial and error, and i had to use this other post to help me out. I actually got fastboot working first, then used this post to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595 to get download mode working, and to flash twrp recovery. After that i used this post to run the command line from with twrp. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696 . I didn't have to flash the factory tot to my phone, but i have that option now because download mode is working. This process will work, there is hope for you getting your phone back. I'm fully recovered. I decided 12B is not worth it in the mean time, but if you want 12B you need to flash the factory tot and then upgrade. There is a way to root 12B, but as of this time you are unable to get Custom Recovery on it.

Black screen on recovery boot

So I rooted my g2 then I used clockwork mod app to install recovery. Well I booted to recovery and it's just sets at a black screen. When plugged into a computer it pops up to format like 30 drives. I have tried the recovery batch file for cwm and it results in the same thing. Tried flashify and flashing twrp and still have the same thing. Please I have no idea what else to do.

I ended up flashing back to stock and then rooted with ioroot15 and then followed these instructions http://www.android.gs/install-twrp-recovery-lg-g2/ It worked.
But me being an idiot didn't take my titanium backup off the phone before the flash so I lost all my settings. #draganddrop #oopsies

Hello,
I am on VS98012B as well. I rooted with 'ioroot24' .. That all went fine. Now when I am trying to install a custom recovery (got botched the first couple times) ... now I can not get the phone to pop up the RSA fingerprint and when I try to boot into recovery using ADB commands or quickboot the phone just goes to a black screen and if it is plugged into the computer (windows 7) it pops up a bunch of different drives at me like endleesss was having. I could use and would appreciate some pointers!

When I boot into recovery with it plugged into my computer I also get Windows telling me that I need to format a bunch of drives before I can use them. Seeing this exact same thing after going to a 4.4.2 ROM. I was coming from a 4.2.2 with TWRP 2.7 and now cannot get back in to recovery mode. I get just a black screen and also see the multiple drives popup when I plug in USB to the pc. I've tried flashing different recoveries with no luck. Hope a fix for this can be found.
Same problem but worse
I have this problem as well and have known that it needing fixing. Problem is the phone tried to auto-update to kitkat at night and now all i get is lg logo some commands in the top left then it tried to install via stock recovery. I can't get away from this as far as I know yet. I can't get to dl mode to just flash stock. I feel i might be completely boned. I tried pulling the battery ribbon to see if that would kick it out of this commanding it into recovery but I really don't know what to do at all at this point. Can someone help please or atleast tell me im boned so i can try to salvage. maybe do a warranty replacement. Thanks in advance
This thread will help with the "drives popping up", "black screen" etc..
--------------------------
For the ones with fastboot issue who can't enter dload mode:
download yor corresponding laf.img
Download this
extract it, put your laf.img inside(rename laf.bin to laf.img if needed), run "run this", you should be able to boot to download mode.

I was able to follow all of the directions in that post though it doesn't seem to have done the trick. I have left a post in that thread asking their opinion on things but idk if it will be answered since it is such a large post.
If you have any experience with these partitions, could you direct me to a way to stop the device from trying to run the OTA. This seems to be the largest problem as to why its not working since it pushes itself into recovery every boot, though it seems the recovery partition flash didn't take for some reason.
I am using 64-bit Ubuntu could that be an issue?

I have followed the steps here multiple times.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/ls997vs995h910-dirtysanta-bootloader-t3519410
If you are familiar, i get through step3 and it requires you to reboot to recovery via adb after start up, but it never starts up. I have tried flashing boot2.img as well to try it, but that gets me too a secure start up password thing I cant get past.
Also, in some directions i t says to enable OEM unlocking in developer settings. I am on Verizon and I do not have that option. Not sure if this is related? Just throwing that out there.

If you're stuck where I think
*VERIZON USERS******
It has come to my attention that some users have encountered abnormally long first boot time(over 20 minutes before first time setup)
To resolve this issue:
Boot into bootloader by pulling the battery and reinserting it and holding VOL- and phugging in the phone. then typing:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot2.img
fastboot reboot
**************
*****ALL USERS*****
If you encounter a "Secure Boot" Password then booting the first time you did not Format data properly.
To reiterate: To properly decrypt the device you need to boot into TWRP and go to WIPE->FORMAT DATA and you will be prompted to type "yes" to format and decrypt.
**************
Once you are booted and have proceeded through the setup wizard, re-enable Android Debugging (ADB) if not already enabled.

So i did try the first part. I flashed boot2 and it got me to the Password screen. The second part says to fix that by booting recovery (Twrp) and erasing the things correctly. I cant get into twrp or any sort of recovery. Not by adb (cant boot phone past password screen or verizon screen) or by button holding on power up. (just continues with boot up. I can get into fastboot mode and download mode.

Lets see..

If you get to the secure start up password and you cannot get any further, you did not decrypt the phone by formatting the data and such.

Is decrypting something I need to do before getting into Twrp? I can't get into recovery.
Also, and this might be nothing, but it seemed to work in my case, but when you're in that rebooting step, make sure you're unplugged. Mine did the same, sat there for 20+ minutes vibrating away. I redid the steps but without it plugged in, and it went through. I've also noticed that on rebooting my phone (different ROM now but still), if I'm plugged into my computer, it'll go into vibrating and act quirky during the reboot, whereas if I'm not plugged into the USB, then it restarts normally.
Totally might be all coincidental, but if you haven't tried it that way, worth a shot.

No the decrypting is done in twrp. Did you successfully install twrp through adb/fastboot?

Thanks for the reply! I have tried all sorts of booting with both Boot1 and boot2 img. Both unplugged and plugged in to no avail.

I think its installed? Haha. It goes through in fastboot as in fastboot flash recovery twrp.....blah blah.img
But, i have not been able to boot to it in any form.
Solved! I messaged @me2151 himself and he straightened me out. It is always the simplest things. I was trying to boot into recovery the incorrect way by way of not only releasing the power button. Thanks for all the friendly internet help. When I posted here, I had no idea there were so many great people out here behind the text. Thanks again!
