Swyped from BlueICESense_JBE
take a look at Jamison's guide just to see if you did some steps wrong
it is mdl so don't use the fw but the steps may be similar

I got an unlocked note 3 that I have been tring to add a recovery to or upgrade to LP. No matter what file I load in to either 3.07 or 3.09, I keep getting an auth fail. Am I missing something stupid here or is there something I forgot to do when I set odin up?

I have the SM-N900V with android 4.4.2
Does your phone boot? If so, turn it back on, enable USB debugging and try again.
Does USB Debugging help us to flash the firmware too ?...
Regards
No it does not aid flashing .
OP should download another firmware and try again .

I keep getting this error message when i use odin to flash any firmware and the phone wont boot up. What should i do?
What version of Odin are you using?
It happened to me too one time, i have to go kies and download firmware and install
Kies or Kies 3 doesnt work with S6 Edge Plus. You need Smart Switch. You also need to know your IMEI to use it
Hope you got your mobile fixed
