Hey guys,
So i rooted my Verizon LG G2 a couple months ago and was trying out all the ROMs. I started with Paranoid Android, then AOKP, then Malladus, then Flex ROM, and now i'm back to the Paranoid Android Beta 4. It's been running great for me but I wanted to go back to stock for a little so I've come here with a question. I did a backup of my stock ROM in TWRP and still have it. What would be the process to install a brand new stock rom (completely stock, no bells and whistles)? Can I restore the backup, then go into TWRP and wipe date/cache/etc, then reboot? Should that work? It's probably a super easy question, I just don't want to mess anything up.

That will do the trick for you. After restoring the factory backup just doing a factory reset will wipe out all of the bells and whistles you put into your backup. Should boot up just like new. I would boot the phone up first before doing the reset though. Maybe not necessary but I like to be cautious too! :laugh:

Thank you! Yep, i'll restore the backup and make sure it boots with no problems. Then boot into recovery and wipe data/etc.
I'll make sure to backup my current rom just in case. :laugh: Better safe than sorry!

Ut oh didn't seem to work for me. What did I miss? When i wiped, then rebooted, i was frozen at the LG screen.
Are you saying that the stock rom rebooted ok and then you wiped and it won't reboot?

Yep, I restored the file and it booted perfectly fine. Then I rebooted to recovery, wiped data, and rebooted system. It got stuck at the LG screen, so I manually entered recovery with the back keys. What did I do wrong?

Restore you backup again and this time when you go into TWRP don't wipe data, just swipe the Factory Reset slider. See if that solves the problem for you.

Will that wipe internal storage too? I usually go into the advanced wipe and wipe everything but internal storage.
No it won't, it will dump your apps and clean the caches and reset the settings.
You can do the same thing from inside the rom by going to system settings/backup reset and doing a reset. I don't know if TWRP does a better or more thorough job of it or not but both ways work.

Hi,
Coming from PureNexus, I wanted to give CM13 a try. Made a nandroid backup so none of my data is lost, and put that backup on pc. I installed CM13 which went fine. It stopped at the CM booting animation and did not go further, so I cleanflashed Purenexus to restore my backup later on. Now PureNexus won't boot either. I'm out of ideas to try, and I want to get my phone back up and running ASAP.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

When you clean flashed, did you also wipe system? If you did and you're still hung at boot, your best bet would be to flash the factory images via fastboot and start fresh.

Are you wiping properly (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) before installing a ROM? Are you making sure you flash the appropriate vendor image after flashing the ROM? When you made your backup which options did you check? And which options are you restoring?

When I try to wipe, it's only wiping cache for some reason. My backup consists of everything except cache.

What do you mean it's only wiping cache? Explain to me how you're doing the wipe. Also, when creating a backup (and restoring it) you should only be selecting system, data, boot, and vendor.
PS. You didn't answer my question about whether you're flashing the vendor after flashing the ROM. If you want help you need to answer the questions that are asked.

I'll keep that in mind. When I boot up TRWP, I wiped system, dalvik, data, internal storage and cache. After that I pushed CM13 through adb. That's where the problems started.
EDIT: I flashed the most recent vendor after I flashed the ROM.

Ok, you definitely don't need to wipe internal storage before flashing so don't worry about that part. Only system, data, cache, and dalvik cache. You said before only cache was being wiped, can you please elaborate on that?
Are you sure the ROM zip didn't become corrupt during the download? Did you check the MD5 to ensure that it didn't? That could be what's causing your problems. Also, what gapps are you flashing?
If you want to go back to Pure Nexus just to get your phone working you can just restore that backup, just make sure you only restore system, data, boot, and vendor.

It won't wipe anything other than cache, no matter what I'm trying to do. Now when I'm trying to push a ROM through adb, I can install it but it won't boot.

I'm trying to help you here but if you keep failing to answer my questions it's impossible for me to do so. At this point I can only think that it's user error, I'd flash the factory images to return to stock and start fresh. I have detailed instructions in my guide:

I found your guide by googling, thanks for making that! Flashing the factory image worked, and I succesfully restored my backup. The only problem left is that it won't accept my pattern lock. I have used the same one for years across multiple android devices, so I'm absolutely sure I have the right pattern. Any way to bypass this?

You need to remove all security before making a backup because the security information is encrypted and doesn't get backed up or restored properly. You can delete some files using TWRP (see section 3 of my guide) in order to remove the security so you can get into Android. This will cause problems with Smart Lock though.

I have G935F, installed TWRP 3.0.0.0 and rooted, WITHOUT wiping. System boots correctly, but I cannot do factory reset or wipe with TWRP, because I got some messages like "Cannot mount Data" and "Failed crypto loader". I understand that it has to do with encryption. Can someone please enlight me, and give me tips about the issue?

You have to download dm-verity and force encryption disabler from here , put it to SD card, reboot into TWRP, FORMAT DATA (not wipe) and flash that file (dm-verity and force encryption disabler). All your data will be erased.
No way to unencrypt without loosing you data for the moment(
"All your data will be erased" means that after boot I'll find a clean system installation (as factory reset)?

No, you cannot perform a backup, because your data is encrypted by default and the only way to disable it is to format your data.
I have a unique problem. I have a HTC Desire 612 from Verizon and I decided to revive it to playe PoGo. But it was stuck in a boot loop and I couldn't get any custom ROM.
Finally a gentle soul here gave me the stock rom and I flashed it vide TWRP and played PoGo for weeks. Then yesterday the phone bro led and when it came up it was stuck in a boot loop.
So I decided to flash the stock ROM again. But before that I tried to factory reset. I could go to TWRP, select wipe data, enter yes and the wiping was successful, then clear dalvic and cache and system beforehand finally I flashed the stock ROM.
Surprise surprise is NOTHING happens. The phone boots without the apps telling me they are installing. Then I get back the exact same data in my phone including my selected wallpaper and apps. Before I can do anything the phone restarts.
Point is wiping and restoring the stock ROM does NOTHING to the phone yet the processes are successful. Can somebody help?

It really is about TWRP failing to wipe
I'm having issues with restoring the factory image of stock Android 6.0.1, I'm using
@Heisenberg guide to create the fresh back up image on TWRP-3.0.2-0. Once I create
the back up, I boot into the OS and perform a factory reset, when i do that the phone resets
into TWRP, and performs the wipe to the device, when i go to do the restore, it freezes
at about 39%, and reboots fully trying to enter the OS, but its corrupt due to TWRP restarting
in the middle of the recovery.
I did at one point upgrade to Android N, but reverted back to android 6.0.1 if that makes a difference.
TL;DR - Created a fresh factory image of 6.0.1 using TWRP, cannot recover with it, TWRP freezes at 39% every time.
What options are you selecting to backup/restore?

I'm doing a back up selecting the system/data/boot/vendor boxes, leaving everything else unchecked, and a second back up with only the EFS,
When i go to restore, I'm just using the first back up, leaving the EFS alone unless ever needed, and am selecting the system/data/boot/vendor boxes

I can only think that your backup is corrupt. Also, instead of booting into Android and performing a factory reset that way, just go into the advanced wipe section of TWRP and wipe only data. Maybe you'll just need to flash the factory images to get the phone booting up fresh again.
That's where it gets interesting, I've flashed the factory 6.0.1 image, then flashed twrp, created the back up again, did the advanced wipe as you said, did the restore again, and same result, at around 39% of the recovery the phone reboots and the back up gets corrupt. My main goal is to make sure this back up absolutely works before I root and start playing around with flashing xposed modules, but I'm unable to do a successful restore for the life of me.

I'm stumped, I really don't know why it wouldn't be working if you're performing the backup the way you say you are. Sorry I can't be more helpful. If it's any consolation, a backup probably isn't strictly necessary because you can always get back to stock by flashing the factory images.

I'm stumped too, I've been able to do this effortlessly in the past with this phone, my Nexus 9 and m8 GPE, it wasn't until I upgraded to N and reverted back to 6.0.1 this started to happen. I've even gone as far as trying different versions of twrp, but have had the same result.
I'm just worried in a worst case scenario I'm away from a comp, something crashes and I can't do a restore via twrp, I could be SOL until I get to a comp with adb.
i had a similiar problem , but when i got into the stock image , i went into settings and did a factory reset from there , no worries your BL stays unlocked , once thats done get whatever apps you want back , disable fingerprint /security junk , then boot into bl just like the guide says , youll be able to fastboot install recovery , (boot back into bl, then scroll to recovery and start a gain) then make your backups yor OG & EFS , then reboot , get su reboot into recovery install and yould be be fine , i think you can also try fastboot format userdata , as well

Just keep a ROM zip + gapps on your phone at all times, if you run into trouble you can flash that.

Hi, I keep seeing that some people brick their phones due to the changes in the process. Question, Due to some battery drainage I am getting, I am trying to do a phone reset.
I currently have TWRP installed and rooted the phone using the jccuando method. What is the best way to reset the phone to factory so I can re-root again and do what I need to do without bricking? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Definitely boot to twrp via hardware keys or a boot to recovery app.. Do not do it from the settings menu. It will put you into twrp bootloop until you boot from the hard keys anyway. Just remember to flash supersu after you factory reset before you boot or you'll have to boot back into twrp again and flash it.

Thank you so much. So I see I can get to twrp no problem. What to do inside twrp before I bootloop or do I need to reset factory before I get to twrp? Then what to do after I am in a bootloop ?

If you used the method I told you there should be no bootloop. Just got to the section wipe and slide the slider for a factory reset. Then afterwards press back and go to your external sd and flash supersu again then reboot it will reboot twice after you flash supersu so don't worry.

Thank you. I actuallt just got done. I did factory reset instead and booted up fine. I took your advice and flashed supersu after the factory reset and i am all good now. I wonder the difference between factory reset and the format data. I was a little scared to factory reset so it woud not erase the rom.

Format data erases all user data. Factory reset erases all but internal storage. So data format is more extensive.

Hi, did everything with no problem. I got another question and not sure if you have the answer. I was hoping to re-lock the bootloader again. Do you know of a way to do that and get the phone to boot up to the system? I am trying to avoid the bootloader reboot message after turning on the phone! Thank you for all your help!

Do not relock unless you're pure stock no twrp or modded boot img. The annoying message will always be there.

Absolutely do not re-lock your bootloader unless you are 100% stock. If you brick the phone with a locked bootloader, you are screwed.
Attempt 1 to install Lineage
Tried installing the Lineage 14.1, it kept doing a blank-but-illuminated screen, then turned off and back on, resulting in a boot loop.
We tried a couple of things - first the more conservative wiping of just data, dalvik and cache.
This did the boot loop described above. I then restored the stock backup and all was well.
Attempt 2 to install Lineage
The second time we wiped the system partition in addition to the above. Same bootloop.
Went to restore the backup of stock again, but now it's getting stuck at "I'm not a phone I'm a comprehensive yada yada" screen. It never progresses past this.
Attempts to get Stock Restore working
We've tried restoring just the system, data and dalvik
We've also tried System Image in addition to these.
No joy.
We don't have a laptop or other device to hand for a few days so we have just what's on the phone - the Lineage 14.1 zip, the stock backup and TWRP.
Any ideas how we can get back to a working phone with either OS?
What type of LePro3 do you have?

The X722 model is not supported by Lineage.
I think that you have a problem. Hope anyone can help you to go back to stock successfully.
When doing the stock restore, we didn't restore the boot image.
Is that something worth trying?
