Could you answer the following questions:
1. Is your laptop wired or wireless?
2. How far is the access point from you on that read?
3. Are you connecting over 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?
side comment: 32 is not bad at all in my opinion.

1: It is wireless
2: About 2 meter
3: 2.4 Ghz
yeah, it is not bad, but it could be better

I will try it @home.
Thx!
edit:
My router cannot use the 5Ghz network

Well then 32 mbps is quite your maximum speed
If you want more upgrade your router

The is issues with the Wi-Fi with different roms. I used to get 50mb+ on 4.3 but on kk and a custom rom around 35mb+....different speeds on different roms

I did a test connected on Wireless AC (router = d-link 686L, AC capable)
TCP connection : 121Mbit/s
Samba connection : 16Mbit/s
I use the app 'WIFI Speed Test' on my Note 3, and 'iperf' on my Windows 8.1 pc.

I have a 1x1 2.4gHz router, and I get ~35Mbits with Note2, ~40Mbits with Note 3 (measured with iperf).
Your measurements are about right.
You might want to get a 2.4 and 5GHz router if you're concerned about speeds, but I doubt you'll get more than ~75-80Mbits.
Your laptop gets more because it has multiple antennas, probably 2.

[Q] Reallllly slow WiFi

On my Nexus 4 I get about 8Mbps while on cellular data. When I connect to my WiFi network I can barely get 1Mbps. I have a 20Mbps internet connection at my home. My other wireless computers at home get great speeds yet my Nexus 4 goes so slow. Does anyone know why my Nexus 4 would have such low speeds?
Is it just your Nexus 4? Are any other devices on WiFi affected as well?

Okay well that doesn't really help narrow down the issue except the fact that it's a Nexus 4 problem. Do you have any other devices? Laptops, Desktops (with WiFi), Media Players, etc to run a speed test? If so, run a speed test on those devices, is the WiFi slow on those or are they fast?
What kind of router do you have?
I did a side by side Wi-Fi test with a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 4.
The Galaxy Nexus was consistently faster by a few Mbps on download speed. The N4 was faster on upload speed.
Mi WiFi connection stays connected but its incredibly weak compared to my old HTC devices
T-Mobile G2 = 4 bars
Amaze 4G = 3 or 4 bars
Nexus 4 = 1 or 2 bars
All in the same room.

As I said in another post. I also got slow download speeds on my n4. I got about 10Mbit/s down. My n7 get around 30Mbit/s down. Im using asus router n56 with the latest fimrware. I have tried to change every setting in the router but I cant get it to work. Playstore is also very slow.
The strange thing is that from time to time I have got fast download speed(40-50Mbit/s) but it has just been for a very short time.
It is really annoying! I dont know anyone else that got an n4 so I cant compare two units at the same place.
In my house same problem. All devices work at 7 M/b, instead my Nexus 4 and my brother Nexus 4 are very slow...
Hopefully it is a software bug and not hardware-specific.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40306 seems like there is a bug. Let's go make some noise

Kernel is only wifi. So op can flash a custom kernel to try and fix it. Franco kernel contains newer wifi drivers than the stock kernel.
A lot of people who had wifi problems fixed it by flashing Franco kernel r19 and above.

So changing kernel did boost your wifi-speed? Hopefully google updates their kernel with this fix in the next release. Im currently running all stock and my intention was to keep doing that
I have a rev_11 N4, and with the speedtest.net app, I get 30-35 Mb/sec with a 6ms latency. FWIW, I run DD-WRT on the router.
I get 8.5mbps download on Nexus 4 and 19.5mbps on the pc connected to the router.
Don't know if thats good or bad but seems fine to me.
Thats on AOKP rom and franko kernel r24.

Now I compared three devices on my homenetwork. I got 8/11mbps on my n4 (stock 4.2.1), 33/13 on my n7 (stock 4.2.1) and 39/13 on my sgs 1 (custom rom 4.0.4). This is strange. The slow speed on the n4 isnt only appearing in speedtest-apps but also when downloading apps from market. The router is asus n56.
N4. Stock Jellybean.
At home on a Verizon FiOS router, my N4 hits 30/25Mbps, which is MAX speed. I'm using WPA2 with " Compatibility Mode" selected, which I assume to mean 20MHz bandwidth.
At work, my download speeds were slower than a friend's Galaxy Nexus.
From that I would surmise that either the router or the router's settings are the culprit.
If you are experiencing slow speeds at home, I would try changing the 802.11n bandwidth setting.
Google doesn't want you to know this but you all likely have defective devices... as to be expected in this stage.

Does anyone know if there's anyway to set, adjust the m.b.p.s. down & uploading speeds on this modem.I get 20 m.b.p.s. down & 10 up and when I do a speedtest on my sensation I barely get 7-9 m.b.p.s down & 1 up.any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Wow... You can not control your speed only YOUR ISP can..
Unless he means Wi-Fi and if you have 54g 802.11g you will be maxed out. If wired is faster then just get a wireless router and disable the wireless on the modem.

Depending on the interference. My wireless router in an apartment only maxes at 10 or maybe 11 Mbps because of interference. It may be slow on Wi-Fi or it may not be.

5 ghz preferred WiFi on Nexus 4

Hi,
I use my Nexus 4 quite a bit at home and at school. My school has a very slow over populated 2.4ghz, the 5ghz band though is very quick. I've noticed the Nexus 4 jumps on the 2.4 automatically, to get on the 5ghz I have to turn on 5ghz only. However when I get back home, my wireless router only runs at 2.4, so I have to turn Wi-Fi back to auto. This gets annoying having to do this 5 days a week. My question is simple, is there a way to set 5ghz as the preferred band for Wi-Fi when both are present? I should mention my phone is fully rooted.
any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Can you forget the 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network? That way it won't connect to it. Some ROMS have where you can prioritize the networks too so if both are in range and you have connected to both it will prefer whichever one you set at higher priority. If you don't have a ROM like that just install an app that can do this for you. Here is one:

Unfortunately the 2.4 and the 5ghz networks have the same name, I don't see a way to distinguish the two just with the stock OS.
Try go on just 2.4 then forget the one it connects to while on 2.4 only.

When a router has 2.4 and 5 GHz on one SSID, it doesn't appear as 2 separate access points, just one. Maybe you could make some sort of tasker profile that forces the phone to 5 GHz while your at school, and 2.4 anywhere else if that's possible.
Good point, I forgot about that. I named mine differently. Yeah try tasker, if you can figure it out.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't think switching between 2.4/5 GHz is currently possible in tasker.

mixed b&g wifi output is much faster than g only.

I have a Linksys WRT54G wifi router. The following are typical wifi speed test for me:
Mixed B & G: 19.55 Mbps (down) and 11.68 Mbps (up)
G only: 13.35 Mbps (down) and 1.41 Mbps (up)
B only: 4.63 Mbps (down) and 2.88 Mbps (up)
Why would the mixed radio output be faster than G only ouput? And why is B only output upstream faster than G only.
Is there any particular known and common reason for something like this? Thanks.
Are you using custom firmware like DD-WRT or tomato ?

I would recommend using this because I have a WRT54G v5 and use DD-WRT and it runs pretty good for it's age. It's probably at least a 5 year old router, getitng to be about 10 years old. It still runs pretty faithfully so that is why I use it, despite wanting N speeds. I usually can get about 12-13 Mbps down on my router using my 25Mb/s cable connection using a speed test so that's not bad I suppose.
