The best way is go to the i9300 forum for information you needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3
Actually, there are several variants of S3 available, just like the S2. And not all the S3s are using the same hardware. You would be finding more answers if you use the search term i9300 instead of Galaxy S3.

I9300 = International. Most projects use the model number.
And no, thanks to Samsung, "Galaxy S3" is about the most useless identifier for device compatibility there is. Flash an I9300 firmware onto any of the USA variants and you'll hardbrick it for example.

Just looking an international I9300 ROM development forum, and jealous :crying:, so many amazing custom ROMS like this , and this one, and here for my AT&T model is ...- 2 if you can even call it a "ROM's", -sad. I switched from international SII I9100 which had tons of custom ROMs to I747 for which a cant even download CallRec MOD.
LTE? - thanks, u can keep it! Anyone willing to trade international for I747 ?
The international has been out a bit longer. And you're always gonna see more dev work for an international phone. That's just the way it is. Be patient. It will come man.
Just wait a bit longer, theme section is making a lot progress on theme department, plus we got myn making rom for it too(Idk if you heard about his work but he has done some great things for evo) so is just matter of time, the phone been out for 2 weeks and I think it will be great device for routers and developers

You had to start a new thread for this? Pretty lame. Since AT&T version just came out why don't you return it and buy the international version? Then you'll have nothing to complain about
I don't know how you expect there to be a bunch of roms out already. The phone was only available with a pre order, and was just released in stores today. Patience.

Hope you drop your phone. Way to put down the devs on the att side. Take it back to the store and go get the international one.
edit: if you can't return it then sell it.
So you give reasons y the international ver is better and you expect to get a trade for your "inferior" version
This is bad marketing
Besides there will be plenty of toms in no time
Also I personally kepp my phone on stock for at least 2 weeks after getting the phone
Mostly just to see what Sammy expects normal people to deal with

Honestly the stock Rom is running so good i haven't thought of flashing one yet. Heck good battery life has made me even not to root and debloat yet. But anyway i will root soon just to install adblock and tools like TB. My point is that during initial days of my previous phone which is SG1 there were so many issues like lag, gps, rfs file system etc etc which made flashing roms inevitable. But so far i am really enjoying stock software.

Every time I see people complaining about custom ROMs for the S3 (or any other phone) I get miffed.
Stop *****ing about what other people do or don't do for you. If you want a custom ROM that meets your needs, build one yourself or pay someone to do it.
The people who create these ROMs do so because they love doing it, not because it's their job (Though people do donate to them, I am sure they do not get what creating ROMs like this is really worth).
I see you're on Telus, well the Telus phone only came out 10 days ago, I know because I got one on the first day. How long do you think it takes to make a custom Android ROM for a phone? I have no idea, but I am sure there are hundreds of hours spent on creating each and every one.
Besides, did you get the S3 because of the custom ROMs available for it or because it is the best phone out there right now? This little beast can do things no other phone can dream of and you ***** about custom ROMs.

Ok guys, I have decided I want the Galaxy S 4 and ordered it but its on back order from AT&T but I want to know all there is about it before I get it. Coming from a HTC One X and very new to Samsung I need direction to the links of what to do with it. I know its new and little info about it, but I need to learn the GS4 before its in hands. I have read about all I can find but its mostly a hit and miss with the reviews so far.
After I get used to it and see the installed software I want to unlock it, and flash away with the customs like the HTC I have but I don't know where to start.
I need to know what or where to look for the ATT version of the GS4, is it a I9505 or a I9500 or what? From the order at ATT all I get is Samsung 1337, so what is it?
If you want to flash roms I'd wait for now the bootloader on the at&t version is locked. I'd say wait and look up and learn about the device. Then if/when the bootloader is unlocked you will know what you are doing. The i9505 is the international snapdragon and LTE version of the phone. The i9500 is the international no LTE octa core version. The at&t one is snapdragon and has LTE bands for AT&T.

this is exactly right. I am waiting myself for the fine people of XDA to unlock the bootloader
OP, the AT&T model is not 1337 it is SGH-i337. All you can do when you get it is freeze all AT&T software except Contacts - do not freeze Contacts as that will disable your dialer/phone.

Ok, I was just going off the order on the ATT site, all it gave for information was Samsung Galaxy 1337, I didn't know which is which for the model or ?. Is there a specific forum for the the ATT ? When I search my model I keep coming back to this forum. Are they all combined or separate like the HTC forums? I agre with the posts and all I have found so far is rooting the phone and no actual custom roms. I have been messing with the HTC One X and got it down pat , like you say, I need to learn all there is to know but don't know where to look.

There is an AT&T forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2257 here. There are no custom roms for this device because of the bootloader. You cant add a custom kernel/recovery/rom. You can root the device though. I'd look at the guides on this and the AT&T forum.

Ordered the GS4 on Monday and to be delivered today Wednesday , going to be out of town for 3 days but it should be here when I get back if my wife don't open it up and steal it from me. Its already rooted, but you wont be running custom roms for a while. As your bootloader is locked. This stops you from installing any.
Hi XDA Forums!
I'm a bit new to the Android community (and to XDA forums!) I wanted to try and install the Google Edition ROM for my device, but I'm a bit confused on the model number.
I went online and searched for about 20-25 minutes. I went to settings > About device > Model number. It says "SPH-L720". I know that is Sprint's model number, but is that any different than the i9505 or the i9500?
I even went on Wikipedia and compared the models (XDA won't let me post links, but I'm sure you can find it!)
I saw that my device met the requirements of the i9505, but I wanted to post here just to be safe.
Thanks a lot!

Different. Because of the carrier (Sprint) there will be some differences between model numbers such as CDMA vs. GSM, radios, etc. Some of the roms for international version might flash and work fine however you may risk losing things like signal, wifi, etc. If you want to try one check the thread to see if anyone else with a Sprint version has had success and above all else make a full backup before flashing just in case. If you don't want to meddle and be on the safe side then just stick with roms listed in the Sprint S4 dev sections.

If you're new to android and xda, you shouldn't be haphazardly flashing testing builds. Take more time to learn and read a lot. You're going into that thin ice territory of stuff that isn't stable and made specifically for your model phone. You're going to end up bricking your phone or getting yourself into a jam that you don't know how to get out of.

Thanks, but there's no way I'm flashing into a new ROM without knowing all the details. I'm not going to dive in there, Haha. I've been reading the forums a lot for the past few days. But I just wanted to clear up the difference between i9505 and SPH-L720: The ROMs meant for i9505 won't work on SPH-L720?

It is safest to stick with roms that were designed for the 720. I don't know the model you're speaking of, I'm assuming it's a gsm based phone. IMO, they are for different networks and different technologies. These people who are trying to shoehorn gsm, Verizon or international roms, are trying to port stuff over and fix, or try to, issues. Yes, since might get them to work but they won't work 100% flawless. I'm not saying they aren't smart, I'm saying that the stuff they are working on is very experimental and should not be deemed safe and reliable as a daily driver rom.

As a Canadian, we have our own variant, along with some south american countries as well, the 900W8. As in past iterations of Galaxy device, we are always grouped with ATT and had our forum there where we could safely flash any rom. But this time around, the W8 variant is no where to be found. There are a few thread floating around, along with people messaging admins, requests, polls, but no one has lifted a finger to place us somewhere.
Today i flashed Echoe rom from this section, it doesnt work. My wifi doesnt work, my LTE is screwed up...and this is just in the first 5 minutes after falshing
So as a W8 variant owner, where do i get my roms from???
Perhaps somebody in XDA could finally place us somewhere, i mean over 150 users want this so why ignore us?
As a fellow Canadian This worries me. I hope this isn't the case for the rest of the SM-N900W8 variant owners
Thanks!
I didnt have a problem being lumped into the att forums before but considering there is ZERO development there due to the locked bootloader not much point.
Our bootloader is unlocked but there would appear to be a shortage of Canadian developers.
Im pretty sure we can flash tmo roms..a few guys with the w8 are running wicked and jedi...but yeah our own forum would ne nice.

Devices are always grouped together by hardware, therefor it should be fairly easy to get the software working on all the related variants. The issues with wifi you're describing sound like the kernel does not match the modules installed in userspace under /system/lib/modules.

Ultimately device forums are up to the Admins to decide on. If you wish to get your own forum, and there is enough interest in it, then the way to go about doing that is to post your request in the New Device Forum Requests thread.
In the mean time, there is plenty of information available here to help you learn how to troubleshoot ROM issues for your device. As mentioned by the stickies however, please post any further questions you have in the appropriate Q&A section.
just recently traded my nexus 5 for an s5 but i thought the community would be alot more active, i mean theres practically no roms or kernals for this phone any info on why its like this? is the s5 hard to make roms for?
Part of the reason I stayed with the Galaxy line of phones is because of the development / ROM community.
You have to remember though, that the S5 is a fairly new phone. It takes a lot of time and work for devs to get ROMs up and running. Be patient and I'm sure there will be plenty of ROMs to choose from.

Thank Samsung Knox for that. I think most will wait until their warranties are over before deliberately flashing a full custom ROM. And, besides, the stock firmware are pretty decent now.
