Yes, you can root and No you cannot do any OTA or LG upgrades to it. Because rooting G2 should also be accompanied by installation of custom recovery which doesn't let you do any OTAs or official upgrades.

Hello there I am new on the web and I am facing this problem with my LG G2 AT&T D80010o 4.2.2.
I am stuck where I have to download 15.35 mb update tha iam aware goes before the so much large 4.4.2. I does download it and by the time that restart to complete installation gives me this error 0x1117008 saying that device is in rooting.
My device was rooted before by I unrooted by the simple way via super SU (full unroot). Did a factory reset and nothing either, now I am stuck on 4.2.2 I really don't know what to do my device was rooted but without a custom recovery just simple access to root, Please any help will be appreciate it thank you!
Read the "go back to stock" thread. Locate tot and DLL for ATT d800 442 and use lgflashtool (in same thread) then use ioroot25 to root again and enjoy.

I'm glad that you got your device fixed and enjoy the new KK but for your reference in the future
a. A question should have been posted under Q&A section, not in General subforum.
b. Do revise the title and make sure it makes sense.
I recently brought my phone back to stock using the tot file with the lg flash tool because I heard the kitkat was now available. I forgot to root my phone before I updated and was wondering if anyone new of a root for the lg g2 running ota kitkat update.

Hey did anyone find a script to root the LG G2 with the new firmware update to KitKat? I've tried to use the scripts that are out, but none worked and tried to root it before update and still nothing. If you guys have any helpful links please and thank you.

well you should look harder and you can find IOroot25 the only that can't be rooted on kitkat is the d801 t-mo variant which needs to be downgraded to 4.2 to root and install custom kk rom which supports root and custom recovery
Hello,
I have just bought the 32Gb d802 version of the LG g2
I have not yet updated to latest OTA release because I want to ask you guys few questions.
I wan to install the camera mod, should I do it now? or should I do it after updating the phone OTA?
Should I install the sound hack now or after the upgrade?
Should I root now or after the OTA upgrade?
I'm a complete novice but have been reading a little bit and understand that rooting for LG g2 is fairly simple?
Thank you all for your help.

You can find detailed answers to all of your questions by searching these forums or even just googling each question. That would probably be much easier and quicker for you then to wait for someone to post answers to all of your questions here. I learned everything about rooting, mods, tweaks, etc. by searching the internet and especially by searching this forum. Just take it one step at a time. If i were you i would start my seraching with your question about OTA updates and rooting.
easiest way..
ota first until your at the latest firmware
to root ..towelroot or ioroot, then install supersu from the playstore for control of root.. then install and run busybox from the play store
for recovery to flash mods, install and run autorec
but never try to ota with these mods installed, there are other ways.. cross that bridge when you come to it
