Sprint Spark - Phoenix AZ - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just manually checked for an update and my phone downloaded a file. After reboot sprint spark has been installed. Sadly, I have not seen a speed or signal gain yet.

Sorry but Why is this in the development thread? Wrong place to post try the Q&A thread

My mistake. Wasn't paying attention obviously. :/

Just so you know just because you have the Sprint Spark update doesn't mean you will get the fast speeds at this point. The Spark update means that when B26 and B41 LTE is finally built out in your area, your phone can handle it. There are only a few markets out there that are officially Spark enabled which are listed below. Clearly Phoenix is not on this list and thus this is why you don't see the fast speeds. See the press release below for proof.
Spark is now available in the following 11 markets:
Austin, Texas
Chicago
Dallas
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Fort Worth, Texas
Houston
Los Angeles
Miami
New York
San Antonio, Texas
Tampa, Fla.
http://investors.sprint.com/file.aspx?iid=4057219&fid=21546220
Last but not least, please keep your questions in the Q&A or General section and not in the Development Forum.

Trust me you won't be seeing Spark in Phoenix for a while. I work at a Sprint store in Arizona and we are barely even getting LTE up around the valley. Spark is a ways off.

this is must be just a marketing BS name. my guess its the same as lte.
I can get 50mbps here easily with lte. I've seen even up to 100mbps on a test network near tower.
with a "normal" lte phone so.... 100mbps was on nexus 4

[Q] How do you troubleshoot a broken 4G radio?

Anyone getting 4G in San Francisco? I can't connect in North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf, or SOMA. I also tried unsuccessfully to connect in Richmond, San Mateo, and Mountain View.
I definitely have coverage per Sprint's 4G map:

Yupperrs .. jus tested it today @ union square & it flies!! It's also in Oakland & Emeryville, but not in Richmond yet. Which sux bcuz I live out that way.. You can check Sprint's website and they have a map of the coverage areas in the bay area.

If you have 4G coverage in SF, can you confirm the neighborhood that you are getting 4G coverage in?
OK, according to the map, there is definitely 4G coverage in North Beach. How do I troubleshoot my phone if I can't get 4G to connect?

maybe its broken
sounds like ur 4g is broken
There is an app on the market called 4G,CDMA,GSM & WiFi Map Viewer (just search 4G Map), and it'll provide you with a user created map overlay showing all the 4g towers/3g towers for every carrier etc.
I got 4G while in Emeryville, Oakland, and coming into SF on the 580. Didn't get a chance to use it very much though!
So if I suspect that my 4g is "broken", how do I troubleshoot this?
Flash back to stock and go from there.
I'm more curious to know if there are debug options that I can turn on so I can see some diagnostics in adb logcat.

AT&T puts 4G at Orlando International Airport?

Seems, even by what is stated in the Orlando Sentinel article, that the network was put into place just to "fill gaps" in the coverage as it was pretty pathetic before. I was just there on April 1st, and I wasn't seeing any difference there than I do at my house over closer to downtown. However, it is nice that they decided to build it out to support the capability...when our phones can actually use it is another story altogether.
I've got an Atrix and I get around 3Mbs down and around 300k up both at home and at the airport.
From what I've read, it seems that a phone update will be required to turn it on anyway...but if ATT can be believed, we might get to see it this month sometime.

That unfortunately doesn't exist. We can only hope to get it soon. I had one of the att reps back in december tell me that my signal had gone from good to absolute crap because orlando was a test market for 4G so one can only hope that a simple flip of the imaginary switch will give us 4G aka 3G+

There's signal issues at disney I think there might be some issue with att putting up towers on property. Similar to how the airport used to be but att pays MCO a decent amount to have put up the towers up

I don't know about you, but is anyone else a little surprised by how many Central Floridians there are posting in this thread? That means.... using an Atrix and knowing a thing or two about making it better! Pretty cool, I guess none of you "feel safe enough" or "like Orlando" enough to list your location on the profile to display with each post though! haha
I have orlando listed in my info, have since day one of joining this sight.....
And in regards to a 4G coverage map they dont realy exist.... I work for AT&T and do customer service in the call center by UCF and there is no info in regards to when the update will be released for the Atrix/Inspire .... Or what the coverage looks like
All I know when I check are network coverage tool and look at the towers in the downtown orlando area none of time are listed as HSPA..... They are all still reporting UMTS only, and there is no info about the backhaul or updates to the towers that I have checked...
Sitting in MCO as I post this. Have worked here for the last 4 years and will say that they have made vast improvements on the tower infrastructure here. Used to be that you would get no reception out at the 1-60 gates end of the airport. That's all fixed. Of course still getting the typical 3mbs down .3 up here so will see when ATT lets the update go. I sure it is a simple update that won't require me to go though what I did with the last. Not that the last was hard, just a pain....

Speed increase seen on my Atrix

Ever since got.my Atrix I was seeing very disappointing download speeds from speedtest.net anywhere from .9mbps to 3.5 mbps. But never into the 4mbps range. But tonite Iam seeing consistant speeds of 4.5-5mbps. I live income the Bay Area near San Francisco. maybe there is hope. This might just be a coinsidence but I was also able to download the Blockbuster app, though it is not fully working right now, but before tonight I was not even able to download it from the Market.

I haven't found one single att affiliated person that can give me a straight up answer on hspa+ or 4G anywhere! Either they will tell you that " oh yes hspa+ is available in your area now, or they have no idea about the release date about anything. The straighest answer I " think" I got, ( I don't trust a single thing att says to me anymore) was from a second tier tech support rep who said that mid 2011 4G would be available in certain areas. He said he had no idea where it would be since there is no map. He also told me att should not even be selling 4G phones now at all.

Do you have Wimax in your area?

I just wanted to know how many epic users actually have reliable wimax coverage where they live and work. I personally I am tired of the silence sprint has left us with in regards to expansion of Wimax or LTE coverage and rollout of the vision network. I'm tired of getting ATT EDGE speeds on EV-DO rev A and just barely being outside of Wimax coverage with no hope of an official rollout in sight.
So, is everyone mad and experiencing problems or am I the exception to the rule? I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma btw.
Edit: Poll added
Edit 2: No Wimax, Fast EV-DO added! Thanks Impaler!
No.

I first noticed 4G coverage on the east side of Madison, WI Friday May 6. My son and I have been using Sensorly to start mapping it. Looks like at least one other person. Anyway, I can see it spreading but its iffy, generally.
BTW, Madison is not on any official Sprint launch list as far as I can tell.
I live in Kentucky. We don't have 4g anywhere in the state. I did manage to pick up a 4g signal while standing outdoors in Covington, right across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. That's probably as close as it will ever get before Clearwire goes bankrupt.
No Wimax at all, However have fast and stong ev/1x data.
You should add this to the poll...

i live in the Quad Cities(iowa/illinois). we dont have sprint 4g, but we do have clear. i know its the same thing. but since its wimax and not lte i can get on it and use it anyways. we only have one tower and you have to be within ten miles for consistent outdoor coverage but when you do get signal it works pretty well and noticeably quicker than 3g.

Sprint LTE Coverage Area

Will this make you finally change your Evo?... check it out and hopefully your area is getting hooked up....
http://tinyurl.com/888mbhx
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I was looking at that last night and thinking, no matter how great the EVO x is my EVO still holds it's own. Since Michigan will be blanketed in LTE by 2014, I am going to wait, Sprint has great plans, but lightsquared drama has to negatively impact their LTE roll out.
And why buy a phone in 2012 when I can't use 4G until a year or 2 years later. I did that with EVO, and assumed a Verizon kind of roll out.
I really hope Sprint stays on track with LTE roll out and they may retain me otherwise VZW with unlimited data might get my business (yes if u try hard enough u can get it)
Sent from my Synergized Aggressive Lionfish Evo using the XDA app
Yea, it says they will be ready by 2014, but with no specific rollout dates for my area, Michigan, I will be switching to Verizon in the next few months, once they get a nest gen phone like the One X or something similar. Verizon has had working 4g for over a year in my area now. There's no way I'm waiting another 2 years to get it here, and have dial-up speed 3g in the meantime. I gave Sprint 12 years of my business, and I hate to leave, but in today's world data is everything, and I need that to be able to do my job.
With the announcement one the HTC EVO One for Sprint, I am puzzled as to how they decide what cities to start their rollout of LTE. San Antonio? Baltimore? Kansas City?
No New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, etc.
OK, so Houston and Dallas. Meh.
With an LTE iPhone possibly coming out later this year, how many iPhonies do they think will hang on waiting while both Verizon and AT&T (yuk) are offering LTE in the biggest markets?
Sure, they're saying just wait, but really, how many people have the discipline? I probably will, but only because returning to AT&T is not an option as far as I'm concerned, and I hear horror stories about big red nickle and dimeing their customers.
What incentive do I have to get the HTC EVO One when there won't be any LTE here in LA, while my old EVO can still use WiMax?
On an unrelated question: does anyone know if LTE phones automatically switch between 3G and LTE? One thing I always hated about WiMax is having to manually turn it on every time I want to use it!
Pretty sure LTE would require manual control just like WiMax.

Hey now! Some of use are awful excited that Dallas is on that list!
But seriously. I'm wondering if the Dallas choice was because of the AT&T headquarters and the fact that Sprint phones are getting MURDERED by att speeds. (At least where i'm at)
Nothing against Dallas. Texas is a great country.
I just think Sprint needs to make a big splash about LTE if they want to limit churn. Dan Hesse has done an outstanding job so far, imo. But if I were in charge of Sprint, I would make NY,and LA, among the first cities, just for PR purposes.
Even aliens know to blow up one of those two cities when they first invade Earth!

I live in Overland Park. The reason it might be coming to the Kansas City area is because the world headquarters is located in Overland Park, KS? Just a guess lol. (btw, KS has more than tumbleweed in the streets lol)

Wimax does automatically switch, as long as you leave the 4g radio on all the time - which kills batt like a mofo

FIRST ROUND MARKETS (14):
First round markets have no preceding markets before them. NV OEM's will mobilize in these markets and begin deployment. These markets will deploy slowly as there is a significant learning curve to Network Vision. Most first round markets started between December 2011 and March 2012.

Second round markets start based on First Round markets completing before them. There is a lot of variability of when Second Round markets start, between June/July 2012 and December 2012. It will all depend on how quickly the First Round market deployments go. Some preliminary work is being done in advance in these Second Markets as well. It's possible that if delays begin to occur in the First Round markets, NV OEM's may hire up additional subcontractors and get some key Second Round markets going. I don't know about the rest of you, but forget LTE coverage -- I'm just waiting for Sprint to get regular coverage on the tower that's been my in my neighborhood like they promised (and their coverage map showed) for the last 3 years!
I have found the Wimax coverage in Florida to be more than adequate. No, I can't get it at my house, but I have WiFi there. But just about everywhere else when I'm traveling or in even small local cities, I get Wimax.
Sprint is about two years behind on LTE. Not very enticing to stay with them after my contract is up in the Fall. The only reason why I didn't demand early contract termination is because I like my EVO 4G phone and don't feel like spending another $300 on a new Verizon phone at the moment.
