I just wanted to know how many epic users actually have reliable wimax coverage where they live and work. I personally I am tired of the silence sprint has left us with in regards to expansion of Wimax or LTE coverage and rollout of the vision network. I'm tired of getting ATT EDGE speeds on EV-DO rev A and just barely being outside of Wimax coverage with no hope of an official rollout in sight.
So, is everyone mad and experiencing problems or am I the exception to the rule? I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma btw.
Edit: Poll added
Edit 2: No Wimax, Fast EV-DO added! Thanks Impaler!
No.

I first noticed 4G coverage on the east side of Madison, WI Friday May 6. My son and I have been using Sensorly to start mapping it. Looks like at least one other person. Anyway, I can see it spreading but its iffy, generally.
BTW, Madison is not on any official Sprint launch list as far as I can tell.
I live in Kentucky. We don't have 4g anywhere in the state. I did manage to pick up a 4g signal while standing outdoors in Covington, right across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. That's probably as close as it will ever get before Clearwire goes bankrupt.
No Wimax at all, However have fast and stong ev/1x data.
You should add this to the poll...

i live in the Quad Cities(iowa/illinois). we dont have sprint 4g, but we do have clear. i know its the same thing. but since its wimax and not lte i can get on it and use it anyways. we only have one tower and you have to be within ten miles for consistent outdoor coverage but when you do get signal it works pretty well and noticeably quicker than 3g.

I read somewhere that LTE had the fastest 4G speeds in Phoenix, I instantly assumed WiMaX was there. :'(

I also got a 4G signal in Valley View on my way to work this morning also. I did a couple of speed tests and here are the results:
Valley View (Valley View Bridge) : 7963 kbps download, 1011 kbps upload
North Olmsted (Great Northern Mall) : 8647 kbps download, 974 kbps upload

Stupid question, but how do you know when you are getting a 4G signal?
Does the "3G" in the status bar change to "4G"?
Select menu, next select settings, then select wireless and networks. Check the option to turn on 4g, then select manage 4g settings. Select notify me when 4g is available. That will set the phone to constantly scan for 4g.when it picks up 4g there will be a notification on the top status bar.then it should automatically connect and show a 4g icon up top.

However, the carrier has not yet begun to market the offering in those areas." via rcrwireless
I just realized its up in Cleveland too. Got a good signal in Westlake and Bay Village. Check out the app Sensorly in the market, it will show you if and where there is 4G in your area. That's how I found it in Cleveland.

My 3G has been incredibly slow for over a month now. I've tried in many areas and I can only reach 200 kbps on a good day, with a huge latency. I also gave up on 4G and keep it off, cause whenever I then it on, it says "4G network connected" and, only seconds later, "4G network disconnected."
During this time, I've had at least t different custom Froyo ROMs installed, different versions, all with the same result. I remember my speeds were much higher when I was fully stock.
Could my radio be damaged and the phone needs replacing?

Haven't had any problems with 3G in the SFl area personally. Haven't done any speed test though so can't say for sure.
As for 4G, not sure about Miami, but Broward is mostly limited to major roads and highways for coverage. Not sure if South Florida is officially a 4G area yet. Anything outside of those areas is rather difficult to get a stable connection. I usually get that behavior when I'm at the edge of coverage.
Ahh...My south Florida friends. With a community this large, it is tough to see localized conversations. I too have noticed quite a lag in the 3G network since upgrading to DK28. As far as the 4G, I also keep it off. When it does connect, it is pretty quick (compared to the 3G), but it has not been consistent enough to keep it on. I tried resetting the minimum signal hack that I found somewhere in here...but that didn't help much. For the most part, my web browsing isn't so bad. I really notice it with the Market and Pandora. Youtube is so-so.
I'm in tampa for the time bng and my signal is garbageeeeee
If I ever move down here, its verizon for me.

I'm in the suburbs around Orlando, right where the 4G coverage starts to go spotty. I've never had much of a problem with 3G, and I've always gotten fairly constant speeds. 4G is a major issue, there are literally 2x2 feet pockets of 4G coverage scattered around the area. Those tiny pockets are the only areas in which you can get a Wimax connection, even with the signal fix.
Sad thing is, the entire area is "covered" on the sprint map.

Yeah I tried the signal hack and only got marginally better coverage. Its not a question of trying to make the best of a really weak 4G signal in my case, because there literally isn't any 4G signal. It just keeps scanning.
I used to live in Naples, 45mins from downtown, and my coverage (3g) was alright, about .6mbps down and .3 up... forget 4g.. didn't even get it.
Now in a suburb of orlando I have family and man, the signal there was HORRIBLE. I was getting 2mbps down, 1.1mbps up with 4g...and let's no even talk about 3g.
Here in denver(where I live now) I get 1mbps down, .8up on 3g and on 4g I get 6-8mbps down and 3.5-5mbps up.
Latency is terrible...anywhere. The lowest latency I get is here in Denver at 85-110... uhg.

Go to city of Oakland park. At the intersection of northeast 6 avenue and prospect road there's a 4g capable tower there southwest of there by one block. I ran speedtest a block from the tower and it really worked great. The range of 4g is definitely not as far as 3g on sprint.

Its the same **** here in Los Angeles and Orange County. Its not your phone but Sprints ****ty data network. Im going to eat the ETF soon so I can get off this ****.
Yeah and sprint is toying around with the idea of going LTE for 4g. Another sprint debacle? Last one they bought Nextel; next they went wimax; now they might go LTE.
From what I've found, wimax range is so short, I can have full 3g signal strength but barely any signal for 4g, if it's even available on that particular tower.
I'm about 30 min from down town orlando. My signal get ****ty in some areas, but I was able to tether a mac, to do a remote repair session for about a 1hr and a half drive. I believe I got disconnected once. The speed/quality of the speed flauxuates greatly. This was completly on 3g. When 4g works its faster. Seems to be a moving target right now was far as where it works.

Huh... Clear map says you have coverage... take the 4g issue up with them. Call Sprint with your 3g issues, you might get a credit. ALso, if you jump ship remember SPrint own 3times as much spectrum then Verizon or Att. Eventually when their networks are congested, Sprint will have plenty more to play with.
i agree..3g here has been horrible since november of last year and verizons service here is awesome..on top of that verizon lte will be in my area in a few months...even more of a reason to jump ship..
Hey, 4g is in philly, not south jersey, we get the ****ty outcast signal , i want 4g all over south jersey! Were now in quarter 1 of 2011 when this phone has been out for almost a year! So I work for sprint, in a corporate full service store in Albuquerque, NM. I have been having customers come in to my store for the last few months telling me they have been getting 4G. I normally just nod my head, tell them "thats cool" and send them on their way. Our city took a long time to get 3G, so the thought that we are getting 4G (when it hasnt even been announced in any new markets in quite a while) is ridiculous.
A week ago, to experiment, I turned 4G on at my house to see what would happen. "4G connected" popped up in my toolbar. A signal strength-o-meter notified me I had 2 bars of 4G service. I still remained skeptical, quite certain Ashton Kutcher was going to pop out and notify me I was punk'd. I downloaded speedtest, and lo and behold, I am clocking 5+mbps in my house. Needless to say, I am very pleasantly shocked. No where is there any documentation that my city should have 4G.... But, I got it.
Lesson of the story: Fire up that 4G radio every once in a while, you never know what might show up!
