[Q] com.android.phone crashing on every boot - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I flashed today the Polish 4.4.2 and on every boot the phone starts off by giving me an error that "com.android.phone" has stopped working and for a while it's a bit laggy and sometimes Settings crashes too. My IMEI is alright and I also tried fixing by factory reset from both Settings and recovery. I reflashed many times and even tried the XEH Hungarian ROM which has the same problem. This was starting to get really infuriating so I flashed CWM (thus tripping Knox) and tried flashing this zip but to no avail. What's interesting is that if I remove the SIM card I don't receive the error anymore and the phone works as it should speed-wise. Also while having my SIM in the phone I noticed that it also takes a while before it manages to connect to my PC right after booting and when I try without the SIM then it connects much faster.
Other then going tomorrow to my carrier and changing my SIM what else do you recommend me to do?
Thank you for your time!

Did you dirty flash and keep data intact? if so you'll need to wipe and reflash, as KK has a different file system and can cause issues.

I already mentioned I reflashed and wiped countless times. At the moment I'm actually thinking of trying the Netherlands ROM.

You stated you factory reset, not wiped, the difference is data. - You could always trying wiping /system - but you'll need the PIT file incase you mess up the partitions, - Reflash it after a /system wipe. (PIT file is your fall back just in case) - If you're unsure about wiping /system then have a good read up on it, once you're confident then give it a shot, if not then don't try it.

I formatted /System, /Data, /Cache and /SDCard from CWM, after that rebooted in Download Mode and now I'm flashing again the ROM. If this doesn't work then I'm attempting the Netherlands ROM even though it's CSC is different then the Hungarian and Polish ROM.
Later edit: After another flash it still crashes. I'm going to try now the Netherlands ROM since it's been downloaded.
Later edit 2: Same story as before I wiped/formatted /System, /Data, /Cache and /SDCard from CWM, then flashed in Odin 3.09 the Netherlands PHN ROM and I still get crashes when it's booting. Tomorrow (it's technically today since it's 2:30AM lol) I'm getting another SIM. Hope this will be the solution still if anybody has any idea what else I can do I am more then welcome to hear your ideas.

It seems changing my sim solved the issue, which is odd because the old sim wasn't even old enough. Out of this whole ordeal I lost my Knox 0x0 status and 12$ for a new sim. Thank you Samsung for implementing Knox and making my life easy!

Nice, the typical "I messed up my device, but I am not at fault. The manufacturer is responsible" attitude.
I'm sorry, I wish I could help you

[Q] Major issue with Australian SM-9005, help!

Hey guys, so I've had my Aussie Telstra Note 3 (SM-9005) for just under a month, rooted it with Knox 0x1, installed TWRP 2.6.3.5 and have tried out a few custom ROMs - all went fine. (Last ROM that worked properly was Foxhound 1.0.)
That is until I flashed X-Note Transformer Edition (MJ7). I flashed this through TWRP 2.6.3.5, everything was successful and standard as any other flash, rebooted into the ROM only to find a message saying "Can't play this video" on the very first Interactive Tutorial (Language Select) page. This message appeared multiple times, then more messages saying the system has crashed. Also, everything is extremely slow and barely anything works - including sound, camera, settings, etc. Also Wifi detects networks but cannot connect to them (system crashes). Any time I try to do anything settings related the system bootloops, and I cannot get a mobile signal at all.
Now here's the weird thing, I thought it was just an issue with the ROM not being compatible, so I rebooted to recovery, tried to reflash the previously-working Foxhound 1.0 ROM - SAME ERRORS. Tried a full wipe/format/rm -rf - and install stock ROM from zip - SAME ERRORS. Downloaded the completely stock Telstra Odin ROM, flashed through Odin successfully - SAME ERRORS. Tried to restore EFS (It said successful) - SAME ERRORS... hope you can see where I'm going with this. I've also tried CWM, flashing with different versions of TWRP, full wipe before installing any ROM, etc. tried basically anything I could find on xda without any luck - the ROMs all boot up, but as soon as they load it pops up with the same "Can't play this video" message and everything starts locking up.
This has me really worried since I tripped Knox at the very beginning before Root de la vega, I'm only hoping whoever Telstra use to fix these doesn't care about the counter.
I have literally spent two days without sleep trying everything to fix this and completely failing, so If anyone could help me out I would be forever in your debt, cheers.

What was the last version of firmware flashed?
You might need to flash the gsm modem for that firmware version to get it to work especially considering you have bootloops and no reception.
You might also need to use Megawipe to clear any errors that stay on your device after flash.

Hey mate, last version of firmware was the Stock Telstra SM-N9005 / TEL ROM I found on www . sammobile . com/firmwares/2/
I have tried at least 10 different ROMs with no luck, every single one does the same thing.
I did send it off to Telstra to try for a repair, they sent it back to me unrepaired due to nothing to do with the software but a 1/4mm scratch my keys made in the chrome plastic around the edge with the words "unable to be repaired due to physical damage" with a little sticker pointing to the scratch. ****ing ridiculous if you ask me.
Honestly I don't know all that much to do with the modems and csc's so it might be that causing my problems but I have tried a bunch of different ones without any change.
At my wits end here, phone is just over 30 days old and I can't use the damn thing.
try odin back to stock, then use kies to "emergency firmware restoore" Kies can be a life saver in some situation, make sure you use beta 3 version

[Q] My Note III is bricked??

Hi guys, I am new here, I am now finding help anywhere about my Note III recent problem...
My note III is SM-N9005 Malaysia version, I did root it with CF Auto Root and I had been using it without problems until yesterday morning,
This is my case :
I realized my alarm was written "Clock has been not responding" and I lost my network service, then I tried to restart my phone,
Since I restart, it became worst, my phone went into boot loop and sometimes freeze on the "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" screen,
But in a few times of reboot, it will be able to boot into homescreen, but still no service for the network, and everything processes work extremely slow, even freezing and crashing!
What I tried to do to fix it :
-I went to the Samsung service center, and the technician said that my warranty is voided (Ofcourse I knew it), and he told me that this problem is due to software problem instead of hardware.
-I did flash my kernel with stock kernel again which was downloaded from Sammobile, but it did not fix my problem,
-And I tried to hard reset and factory reset of my phone, it did not help too,
-I am also tried to clear cache and dalvik cache and reboot the device, it didn't seems working...
I have already done what I could but I still yet to fix my phone, what should I do now, any experts can guild me?? T^T
Thank you

check your internal card or sd card for a folder called Backups or something similar, if your running a custom rom normally EFS is automatically stored there if your custom rom does do EFS backup automatically at install....if not do a search on the forum for EFS RECOVERY or re-flash your rom it may help or may not, but im sure it wont though...
also read though the link i sent you there maybe some think there that may help you
you can try to do install new firmware with odin 3:09 kitkate see how it behaves ....

-I went for a search for the backup folder in either of the storage mentioned by I didn't see a file called "backup"... I think I deleted it since the factory reset I've done yesterday, I went to many forums hat talk about EFS, and it wont help my problem cos all of them are talk about "Backup/recover", where I didn't backup my EFS earlier...
-I tried for the IMEI code, that's the reason I know about EFS, it shows "null/null", and most the information are showing unknown, such as baseband version, IMEISV, IP Address, Bluetooth Address.
-My current situation is whatever I flash into my phone, it just wont help, the problem didn't improvise at all...
Thanks..

download Stock firmware from sammobile or samsung updates
turn phone off, boot into recovery mode wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition
turn phone off, boot into download mode
use odin v 3.09 load your downloaded firmware into AP, check update boot loader box, don't check anything else and click start.
once it finishes flashing, it will reboot by itself.
if it fails then you might want to repeat the process above one more time.
if still fails u might want to do emergency recovery via kies.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Hi guys, I think have some new clues to determine my problem now
I flashed a custom recovery into my phone this morning,
and I realise that my /system, /efs and /firmware-modem is unmounted,
I tried to mount them, it was successful, but when I reboot the device, the problem still there,
Boot loop, no IMEI, no Baseband Version, Lag Processes,
and I went back to recovery again, I realised they have been unmounted again...
Any idea what is the problem guys??
Thx

Hi there,
I have tried the kies emergency recovery method, but it was unsuccessful,
My note 3 was connected to the kies, but when I run Emergency Firmware Recovery,
My device was instantly disconnected with kies
And I have also tried the Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation,
The Kies showed me that my device is not supported with initialisation...
Anything I should do??
Thx

[Q] Can't wipe or factory reset encrypted phone

I made the mistake of encrypting my phone and am now paying the price. It is rooted and I had installed the Google Edition 4.4.2 ROM by Danvdh, Kryten2k35 & Ktoonsez. I'm using TWRP 2.7.0.1.
I first tried going into recovery and doing a factory reset and got the an "Unable to mount '/data'" error, followed by a big red FAIL. So I rebooted into the system and tried to do a factory reset from there. Went through all the steps, phone rebooted into recovery and I got the same error - unable to mount.
So I did a bit of searching on the forums here and someone had suggested using the format option in TWRP. So I did that and it seemed to work - did not get the dreaded unable to mount error. So I tried flashing the new rom (the updated version from a couple of weeks ago). Got a message indicating it was successful. Rebooted, and to my dismay, got the prompt for the encryption password. Saw the little line drawing Android, then... nothing - I found myself in brick land.
Managed to get back into TWRP and, based on another post I found, tried Advanced Wipe, selecting everything except Micro SDcard and USB-OTG. Tried installing the new ROM again, says successful, but nothing has changed - I still boot into blackness after inputting my encryption password.
Not sure what else to try. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Can you go into download mode, revert back to a stock rom (or flash a stock one or something) and turn encryption off? edit: on further research it looks like the only way to completely unencrypt is to reset your device. dunno if that's something you'd want to try, but considering you already wiped multiple times.. i'd say try it?
Also what carrier do you have? That's pretty important. AT&Ts i337 and Verizon's variant cannot flash AOSP roms (more specifically, kernels) due to the bootloader being locked. That might be the issue you're experiencing? I looked up the ROM and it's using ktoonsez kernel, so I imagine that'd be why. Someone just made a version that does not include the kernel and has multiple issues the ROM you're trying to use fixed here.

Thanks - that's exactly what I've been trying to do. I haven't tried reflashing back to stock with Odin though. Hmmm...

Bell, up here in the Great White North. I don't think locked bootloader is an issue - I was on the previous version of Danvdh's ROM, and everything was hunkydory. I just made the unfortunate decision to encrypt. Big mistake.
May try flashing back to stock. Nothing to lose, at this stage...
Thanks!
Hey just wanted to mention for the benefit of anyone else who got into this bind, flashing back to stock using Odin did the trick. Still wouldn't boot, but then I rebooted into stock recovery and did a factory reset, and finally was able to reboot back into stock. What a nightmare. Ugh. Thanks for the tip though - never occurred to me to try to go back to stock. Lesson learned though - no more encryption for me!

It's hard to answer since you provided no crucial details about your phone, configuration or how you flashed it.
You didn't tell us which S5 model you have or your carrier. Nor what firmware file you flashed, so we don't know if it was a compatible file. No Odin log, so we don't know if the flash had errors or not. And you didn't describe how you flashed step by step so we don't know if you missed essential steps.
At a guess, try wiping the partition cache from recovery mode. Then if necessary, do a factory data reset as well (will delete user files!). If you have ongoing problems, then you should restore your backup and try again from that stable condition.
No backup? That is a bad habit to say the least. In that case, flash a full stock firmware image that matches the carrier that the phone was originally sold for.

The Model is SM G900F. Its On Three Carrier. I Flashed A STOCK (From SamMobile) Firmware 4.2.2.
The Flash Process Was Successful. No Errors.
Put Device In Download Mode
Connected To Computer
Loaded Firmware Into PDA
Ftime reset
Auto Reboot
Started The Flashing.
Completed.
Phone rebooted. Got Acore has stopped. Then the phone reboots.
But since I needed my phone working quickly I took the path of factory reset and that seems to have fixed it. I did try clearing the cache but no effect.
I believe I know the issue. I used a launcher called Themer. I have reasons to think that was causing the issue because as it was loading in the background I managed to quickly hit the continue button to close the crashed process boxes and as the Launcher finished "Loading" it when it rebooted.
WARNING FOR OTHERS. Always Remove Other Launchers Before Flashing As A Precaution! (Warnings From Newbies Hehe)

Phone restarts at startup.

Well this is my 1st post so first of all hey everyone
I just spent a week in Amsterdam and my phone restarted twice, different times different days and I dont remember what I was doing with it back then.
But as I landed back home I put the phone back from "Airplane Mode" and went on to toggle "Cellular Data" on.
The second I pressed the cellular data shortcut on my the phone restarted itself but this time whenever it would finish the screen would be on but fully black and sometimes it'll show battery precentage at the top but then will restart again in an infinite loop.
Sometimes it'll pop up the "Optimizing Apps" window and will go through all 24, upon finishing it will restart once more and do the same.
I tried using the bootloader and it worked (the bootloader that is) but the phone would do the same thing even after Rebooting from there or shutting down from there and then turning back on.
I contacted tech support on chat but they couldnt help past telling me to go to bootloader and reboot, said I should factory wipe when it failed.
Also tried wiping cache but to no avail.
I have no backup of my phone (wanted to do one before the flight but got lazy and I suck for not doing one sooner) since probably October and google doesnt backup my contacts properly for some unknown reason.
I already downloaded Android Studio with everything included for me to try using adb to sideload stock without wiping but its my first time and I couldnt get it to do anything at all...
I already got the official stock .gz file from the motorola website.
Anyway here are the specs to my phone:
XT1575
Everything is stock. didn't root or change recovery once in my life.
Was fully updated and had plenty of drive space (I have almost 128GB with the 64GB version + 64GB SD)
I'm really lost here so help will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Noam
Start with a full wipe and if that doesn't work flash the stock image. Not sure what your question is though as you never really say. Once fixed I would unlock and make a backup so you don't have to deal with this again.

The thing I pretty much want to know is if theres a way to either backup the phone now with it connected to the computer while in bootloader or recovery. or a way to flash the stock rom without wiping which I read someone did with his tablet. I cant post source normally because I'm a new user so here it is but change spaces to dots: schnouki net/posts/2014/08/13/flashing-a-stock-android-image-without-wiping-user-data/
Also while in recovery I noticed 2 options under wipe: 1. userdata only. 2. userdata+(insert something I dont remember here) and I was wondering what gets deleted in both? if I delete only userdata what data will remain? something helpful?
Sure you can try flashing without wiping data but being locked I personally wouldn't risk it. No idea about backing up in your state... somewhere I remember a thread on backing up without root try searching in q&a.

Out of curiosity why shouldnt I try flashing with no wipe if ill lose the data anyway? worst case wont I just have to wipe after it fails and flash again?
And I will try thank you
Do you have any knowledge about the 2 wipe options?
Thanks in advance
Well I tried turning the phone on and it took a couple of minutes before loading to a fresh start. It apparently wiped itself on its own. Managed to restore almost everything.
Anyhow the phone takes too long to boot now. Was even stuck at boot and I had to restart it.
Anyway to fix my software? Or at least check for corruption?
