Hello everyone, I purchased this unit (VW submodel) few days ago. Picture attached.
it works great.
8"
pure android
1ghz cpu,
1gigs of ram,
4gigs of flash + microSD,
capacitive.
Does anybody have the unit with same chipset so we can exchange some info? For example, I can't find an entrance to hidden menu that was presented to me at first boot,
I don't know how to restart the unit, and I have a slight issue with car battery draining.
To be straight on topic, I have modified stock radio application to be more... ... presentable It was terrible, colors were out of this world
This unit came rooted. So I could easily replace the stock radio app.
If somebody needs it just let me know.
Now it looks like this:
Thanks!
Could you post a link to the stock radio app. I have the S150 Head unit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503964
Which has now been updated to Android 4.03 but the radio app is terrible!! Spirit Radio will not work either so would be nice to give yours a go on the off chance it is compatible.
Oh and to enter the "hidden menu" on the 2.3 Android S150 you dialled "*#98723" from the phone app. However this doesn't seem to be working after updationg to 4.03 but I'm going to post it on the S150 thread and see if anyone knows how to get into it so have a look there.

The pictures of the unit isn't enough to verify which model you have. The problem is that the faceplates are crossed used between several manufacturers. So, going by the picture alone is not enough to identify the unit.
If you already have the model check the "About this device" in Settings application is an easy way to identify your model. You can also run "cat /proc/cpuinfo" or "getprop ro.device.fingerprint" in either "adb shell" or a terminal app then check for the keywords below from the returned syntax. If it does not match any of them then post the output here.
A way to differentiate between the different Chinese Android head units is by the exact processor included:
Allwinner A10 (sun4i) 1.0 Ghz Cortex A8 Single Core processors in the TVBOX family.
Freescale i.MX535 (imx53_smd) 1.0 Ghz Cortex A8 Single Core processors are usually found units in the OUKU Unbranded family.
Mstar MST786 (cedric) 1.0 to 1.2 Ghz Cortex A9 Dual Core processors are found in the units in the AN-21U family.
Samsung S5PV210 (smdkv210) 1.0 Ghz Cortex A8 Single Core processors are found in the units in the S100/S150 family.
Samsung Exynos 4412 (smdk4x12) 1.7 GHz Quad Core processors are found in the units in the WD8801 family.
Telechips TCC8925 (m805s) 1.0 to 1.2 Ghz Dual Core processors are found in the units in the TCC8925 family.
While I do suspect you have the Allwinner A10 as noted by the title of the thread, you might want to verify it to make sure you can post in the correct thread.

Hello everyone, I also purchased a zx803 unit for toyota corolla model.
The same specs that stanjkof wrote.
I would like to exchange info and ideas to improve this unit.
Stanjkof, I dont know what hidden menu you say, I flashed firmwares several times and I never saw that menu.
If you dont have a little hole to reset unit, you can use any app to restart from google play.
Your radio app mod looks nice, well done!. Can you share it?

Hello, drop me an email in private message, I will send it to you via email (I still can't post external links here).
Are you satisfied with the unit? i guess they have some quirks but overall I like it.
I found that Poweramp is the best player for car unit regarding sound quality, album art and so on.

You have over ten posts now, so you should be able to post URLs. Besides, you could have encapsulated URLs with an underscore (_) in order to post links. For example, _http://www.google.com_ and it will bypass the forum's parser that checks and replaces it with a clickable link or prevents you from posting if you have < 10 posts.
On a sidenote is there anyone here that can do me a favor and please install Android System Info. Click on the "System" tab, click on the application (overflow) menu and export results to file. Go through it, its a simple html file in /mnt/sdcard directory and censor any information that want to hide like accounts names and SSID then upload it as an attachment. I'd like to open a dedicated Wiki page for this unit and that way you can have a place for FAQs and such.

Thanks for your app radio i will test soon.
Overall I like it too, but have a few problems that I think could be solved with an software update, for example:
switching sound beetwen radio and android sound is buggy in my unit, Bluetooht module is not visible for android, so you cannot use to connect with obd2 device.
I think stock player is the best option because other players take more time to launch and if you are driving, you need a very simple and direct interface.
Otherwise,I found default launcher slow and choppy so I installed holo launcher, it runs smoother than go launcher.
I'm looking for a minimal interface when I´m driving so I test some car dock apps and widgets. I am currently using Car Home Ultra, I use autostarter to run the app when android boot and I use also a volume schedule app so android volume is set at boot.

I hear that this radio is not compatible with cheap OBD2 adapters, people have purchased another bluetooth dongle to use with radio for OBD2.
(there is compatibility list somewhere) and than it works. And then there is another problem, you can't use USB hub to plug in multiple devices to USB, power is too low. So you have to use powered USB hub to have wifi adapter and bluetooth adapter plugged at the same time.
I haven't noticed bad transitions from FM to mp3.
Nice tip for autostarter app, I was looking something similar, thanks.
Poweramp is quite simple, it starts automatically if left working when you turned off the car. But the sound quality is far better-deeper (costs 4$ I believe, 0$ on torrents )
I use "Screen Dimmer" app (widget) to dimm the screen when driving at night.
As for launcher, I have swithched it to APEX launcher and looked no further. Fast, minimalist, customizeable...
My unit had NEXT launcher, and that was tacky overkill. I guess that is also GO launcher derivate.
I have slight problem - noticed that unit really never sleeps. I was poking around my cellphone and noticed it had automatically connected to car bluetooth. But car was locked and shut down in the garage!
So I tried another smartphone, and it also found car kit as active!
So today I have disabled that bluetooth service.
Do you also have some sort of "canbus service" active?

Screen dimmer app its a good idea, i will try it.
I didnt notice problems with sleep, i will test later, but perhaps you check bluetooth conection very soon, I think device is runing a few minutes after you remove car key to shutdown android.
I dont have any kind of "can bus service", I only have a configuration vehicle app, so i can configure stering wheel buttons and other stuff but nothing about canbus, maybe that is especific for VW.
P.D Sorry for my bad english....

I was considering this HU for my 2016 VW Polo since I don't care much about having a DVD slot. The title for this HU says DVD but it doesn't sport a drive. Though the spec seems good (RK3188) and the price isn't much either I didn't find any reviews or information about this HU on XDA (or outside).
There are couple of places this is being sold from Ali express to GearBest and also on their own website.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this one? Specifically I was looking for community support (root, custom firmware). Since this sports a RK3188 chip can other ROMs be used on this? Also the HU has a very thin form factor (compared to other HUs) - so would heat be an issue?
Who knows?
It doesn't have a volume control knob, if you can live with that. Personally, on screen adjustments for volume, track selection, "back," and on/off is very unhandy and annoying. You can't just reach up and adjust it with out looking. Also the volume steps of the touch controls are not always small enough to set a precise level. These units, with no US contacts or service, are a pain if you need something. Carjoying is in the US and quite responsive. Updates are also made.....who knows about those other relatively unknown products. They may never update and may no work with other software. I have never seen a 9" screen wonder if the thin bezel is just a half inch smaller and uncovering the edges of an 8" panel. This is just conjecture but perhaps worth considering.

Thanks for the response. I ended up placing an order for this unit instead. I dropped the other one mainly due to there being hardly any orders and reviews. I also did not get any proper responses from the sellers regarding that unit - probably since its new and they are themselves unaware of its features/fit. I agree about the support issues but I also had a tight budget and as long as it works fine :fingers-crossed: I should be OK. Importing these into India attracts a sizable customs duty The unit I bought costed me about $190 shipped via FedEx so I expect the customs would be proportionately lower.
Regarding the volume I have steering wheel controls which should serve the purpose of physical buttons. Though I agree that having a knob is more convenient I also kind of like the flush surface of these full touch units - lesser issues of dust settling.
I will post an update here once I get the unit and install it. BTW the reviews for this on AliExpress are excellent - would love to hear from anyone already owning this. I asked the seller about rooting and custom firmware (kind of essential for android units) but didn't hear anything positive This lack of support and the fact that this is an AllWinner solution (R16 QuadCore Cortex A7) were the only two drawbacks I saw in it (given its price).
How to root Junsun Android 4.4.4
I purchased this unit also from gearbest and like some things about it, but question other things.
The good:
1. The unit is ridiculously thin for a car stereo. There is no CD/DVD player
2. Sound is actually decent. Little difference from the stock unit
3. The home page with rotating icons is cool and different. I can also put a live wallpaper behind it
4. Mirroring app works ok, but I'd rather tether.
5. I can play videos and music on a USB flash drive
The bad:
1. I can't launch other apps and listen to music at the same time. (i.e. when I load Google Maps, radio stops)
2. No native capability to bluetooth tether. USB tethering with EasyTether also didn't work.
3. There are no microsd inputs like other Chinese Android units I've see thus far. I can connect a USB drive to 2 available connectors routed from the back of the unit. This isn't necessarily bad. Just requires different process for rooting that's TBD.
4. Instructions are only in chinese. Don't know who really makes this device, or how to get their technical support. So far, gearbest has provided some answers, but they're far from accurate!
So that said, I'd like to root and install some different apps and drivers that might make USB or bluetooth tethering possible. And that might allow me to listen to radio or USB music or Pandora while I have something else like Torque or Waze running.
Here are settings from the unit:
OS Version/Build Version: JAX1602191130G-WQ-16EN
MCU Version: 201512161416-SLX7786-GEN
CPU Model: RKPX3
Android: 4.4.4
There is also a 'system' page, where I can go to advanced, press 1234 as the password (found it through trial and error) . A screen is then available to upgrade MCU or firmware. However, I don't know where the files should be placed for this screen to register them.
Any pointers on process to root this and/or install something like Malaysk Firmware? Thanks!

I think all these units restrict the bluetooth to the MCU and is generally not available to other apps. Though I am not sure how Torque works.

This is a problem with most Chinese purchases - informed support is almost non-existent. However since you have an RK3188 based unit I think some of the support threads here may match your unit (at least partially). First try to get into the extra setting menu using the passwords given in the RK3188 threads and rooting as well. You need to find the thread that matches best to your unit/firmware based on trying out the various settings/tweaks. Don't flash anything till you are certain you are in the correct support thread. All the best!

I am sure that this is some soft/firmware restriction. Android 4.4 has a native support of multitasking, so it should be by default in any of core versions of this OS. Main problem that I didn't find any resources where this issue was resolved.

This is really awful - how can they sell a "Android" HU with such limitation? You should give the seller an earful and a bad review for the unit so they are forced to fix it!
I have the same unit also , the camera doesn't show when I am in reverse mode , the steering wheel don't work with the radio, rkpx3 model
I need to know what MCU is installed on this unit . Someone has any clues ?
You can have a glance at this Pumpkin HU for VW, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pumpkin-Android-Navigation-Subwoofer-Multimedia/dp/B01D30XDXY/

I bought this device.
The menu is exactly the same, firmware is the same: JAX1603281325G-WQ-16EN.
There's a microSD slot on the front panel.
MCU version: 201601251011-SLX7786-GEN .
Built-in player and radio can not work in the background, and this is the biggest trouble. There is not a full solution is to install third - party players who know how to work in the background, for example: BlackPlayer. But unfortunately, in third-party players do not switch tracks from the steering buttons. Adjust the volume and MUTE works as it should, because these buttons are programmed for the entire system. I liked that as a quick call navigation, you can assign any button on the steering wheel and choose any app.
The unit is decent, especially for the price. But such silly mistake with a built-in player and radio can wipe out all the pluses. Wrote to the seller, promised to talk to the engineer, perhaps
Typo?

I noticed that the built-in player and radio do not have the manifest permissions to change the audio system settings ("modify audio settings"). Using APKEditor added this line to manifest, but to save, unfortunately, did not work, because I get the error message: the program is already installed and is missing a digital signature. If necessary I can put the modified and the original source code of the apk "music" and "radio"... Now are struggling with receiving the digital signature, the idea is APK Editor must sign the modified apk with the native signature. Apparently, there is some protection.
n the process of using the device revealed the following shortcomings (about the first two already written):
1. Not running in the background built-in music player . That is, when playing music you can't use Navigator. You have to use one or the other.
2. Not running in the background built-in radio programme. That is, while playing the radio you can't use Navigator. You have to use one or the other.
3. Not running in the background audioclub built-in bluetooth . That is, when playing music from phone via bluetooth you can't use Navigator. So you have to use one or the other.
4. After the completion of the incoming call via the bluetooth Protocol SOMETIMES falls off the sound of the entire device. Most likely, the audio service bluetooth does not give audio device. You have to reboot the head unit by switching off the ignition.
5. I really want the joystick on the steering wheel could switch tracks on ALL the audio players and not just on the built.
6. Lost sound player and radio when you lock the screen (press on the power button), which is very inconvenient at night, since I want to eyes did not detract.
7. It is unclear how sync contacts via bluetooth. Some appear, some don't.
I received from the seller working firmware, music is now able to work together with NAV. If anyone needs - let me know.
So jumped in with out doing enough research.. I just installed one of the double din android units in my car. I was able to get everything wired up and running. But not much is working well.
I got this unit
GCS APEX ANDROID HEAD UNIT W/ GPS - 2015+ WRX / 2015+ STI
Android Operating System Version: 5.1.1
Processor: 1.6Ghz Cortex A9 Quad Core
Memory: 1GB RAM, 16GB flash
Stereo Power: 4x50W
So the unit itself seems very slow. I installed 2 apps. Spotify and Waze. The apps take a long time to load/open.
Spotify. Ok this is odd but not sure if its normal. I open spotify and I have the HU paired with my hotspot. It loads and starts to play but the sound is awful. I am not able to control anything via the headunit for sound such as fader/balance/eq. They don't do anything. Now if i open spotify from my phone and cast it to the HU i have all those controls and it sounds 100x better but the volume can be adjust from the phone and have to set that low. Is that normal? I have tried to get the USB to work and it will charge my phone (iphone 7+) but the headunit won't recognize the phone at all. don't even give me an option to use it via usb. I can also connect via bluetooth and stream that way but its similar where I can adjust volume from the phone. Sorry if this is really n00bish but thinking maybe its a setting? I can't seem to find anything.
After doing some reading i guess the 1gb was not the way to go but stuck for now. so any suggestions? I just want to be able to use Waze, and spotify and have the unit respond. When I click a button the delay is not a second or two but over 50 seconds and seems like it just crashes. I clear the memory and dont' have any live wallpapers running just nothing seems to be responding at all
Hope this makes sense and or someone might be able to give me some insight. Thanks for any help.
I can't post the link to the actual unit since I don't have enough street cred with the forum yet.
Any thoughts?
radio
My radio has the same specs as yours apart from the android version (4.4.2), i can confirm that Spotify and waze are both up and running within a second or two.
It does sound like you might have a faulty unit, is it possible to return it ?
You could also try a different rom but will kill any warranty I guess.
Yah that is what i am worried about. The vendor is not so eager to exchange it. I am going to take some video of what I am talking about maybe that will add some detail. Maybe someone will see it and point out that I might be doing something wrong. Not sure but very frustrating.

If yours is a MTCB/C unit (check the MCU version, it should start with this either MTCB or MTCC) you can flash a 4.4 ROM.
I also received my unit with 5.1 and downgraded to 4.4.
So tried a bunch of things over the weekend. No luck. I did do a factory restore and then was not able to even log into the play store at all. Google services kept crashing. I tried all the trouble shooting I could find online with no luck. Also I was not able to get the USB connection to see my iPhone. I could plug in a thumb drive and it worked fine. Are these just not able to use an iPhone at all? Not sure if anyone has been able to get the USB connection working between headunit and iPhone.
I sent the unit back hopefully getting a replacement to continue to try and get it to work. If not guess I will look for something else.

Hi
This is my second HU I had a Xtrons PF75Q5FA, the Joying is better than the Xtrons.
All the basic functions work well. No problems with the bluetooth or radio that sum people have had.
The WiFi seems very slow, connection signal strength OK just slow.
The display suffers from reflection making it hard to read at times, I fitted an anti-glare protector which helps.
The stock launcher is OK.
Tried using "Carwebguru" which I prefer, unfortunately when you press the physical 'Home' button the unit goes back to the default launcher,
using the soft 'Home' button works fine.
Generally I am happy with what is a basic unit.
If you would like some pictures I have had the unit apart (soldering of BT/WiFi cables is bad)

I tried there first, no luck.
The default ROM has no major problems looking around just for fun.

Have you set Carwebguru as the defalt launcher in settings? The new one wont be able to do it on its own.
Soldering a legit SMA and antenna does wonders, did on my MTCB. My Joying PX5 wifi was ok, nothing to bother with changing.

Here's what I'm hoping for:
Run a custom launcher
Run a few useful travel apps (GasBuddy, TPMS monitoring, trailer leveling app)
Be able to control what the source button on the front rotates through (AM, FM, SD card files, perhaps IHeartRadio, perhaps Spotify, etc.)
Backup camera
Video output (for GM's rear headrest displays)
I plan to use my phone as a wifi hotspot for any apps (i.e., GasBuddy) that require data.

Custom launcher: good to go
Travel apps: sleep may break functions, don't know.
Custom Source: This will require root, xposed, tasker, I only have ideas in theory in how this would work.
Backup camera:gtg
Video output: I believe video output will only happen from stock video app, it may be picky on formats, aspect ratio, etc..
About root, and xposed; Its not really fully tested yet. I've been able to do it over USB, other(s) has not. Even then my root is only temporary, it is lost on reboot. If your HU ever looses power (change car battery) you will have to re-root. I'm lucky that I can do it from my tablet, but it relies on the cloud (kingoroot), that does not make me comfortable in trying to future proof my head unit. Granted, you only need root once for xposed but there could be a feature or a work around that would suck to loose on reboot.
Issues with non stock music players. Spoitfy, for example will continue to play for 5mins after you turn off the car. There are workarounds, it's easier with xposed, tasker. Without root you have to trigger tasker off of wifi, or a ACC powered USB device to pause the music.
If you really like to tinker, I recommend the android headunits. Anticipate bench testing for some time before you install into auto.
I've posted about it before, but I'll again share my favorite piece of hardware.
RcJoyCon - Steering wheel interface
http://www.exinterface.com/cpjexc/
Works with CANBUS, IBUS, Restive controls, converts them to USB keyboard. When used with Xposed Additions, gives you crazy amount of SWC power. Single, double, triple clicks, double taps, triple taps, tap and hold, can all be task assignments in Android. It also allows to change button layout depending on app being used. I could't live without it, I "could" do "everything" from just my steering wheel controls.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to type this all up! Lots of extremely useful detail aimed exactly at my planned usage.
I definitely plan on a solid amount of bench time configuring whatever I choose before installation - this is part of the reason I'd like to order sooner than later!
If I get lucky and my unit can root over USB, then I'm okay with the power-loss behavior because I can reroot without having to remove the unit from the vehicle (I think?).
The Spotify behavior sounds pretty annoying. Is this a Spotify issue that I'll face no matter which unit I choose, or is it something specific to the UM135N4PX5?

Common bug of these android head units. Can't really recommend PX5 right now.
Look into Joying sofia 3gr, Intel, still learning alot, but its the best option right now.
Does Sygic Navigation& Spotify work with this Unit?

I ordered their new 4GB PX5 unit, but currently have an older rk3188 unit they sold 2 years ago. I've loved it, minus the horrible radio reception despite the powered antenna in the car wired correctly and turning on.
Anything that can be done on these units to improve radio reception?

@carter.w.jason
You have a PX5 and a Sofia. The Sofia units have a bug in their GPS HAL since the October ROM or so. It uses integers to calculate the m/s instead of floats. It means that the speed steps are going in 4 km/hr step up and down, instead of 1 km/hr steps. The GPSSpeedFix xposed module corrects this.
Does the PX5 have this same GPS HAL integer/float bug or is it functioning correctly?

I had the original July ROM on my Joying when I bought it and the bug was there from the start.
Website/Info page: https://www.autopumpkin.com/pumpkin...screen-octa-core-with-gps-navi-bluetooth.html
I ordered this off their website since it was cheaper than ebay/amazon by $30-$40 dollars. $309. Because my order was delayed as they waited for new units, they offered me an ODB connector (which did not arrive with the unit).
I received the new unit that claims Android 8.0 last week and had it installed today. So far, so good. However, I think its actually running 6.0 (based on a selection of icons offering me Marshmallow 6.0 option). The install went fine except for the canbus adapter I bought off Amazon did not work, so I've asked their support for help in what would allow me to use steering wheel controls. The mic they supplied has a cable that was only half as long as I needed to get up to my mirror, so its mounted on the dash and the clip is very small and wouldnt have worked anyways.
I've loaded up Nova Launcher with a bunch of widgets and installed Spotify, XM Radio, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Scanner Pro, Chamberlain MyQ, Swiftkey Keyboard, Transparent Weather and Waze. I am using a Personal Hotspot on an iPhone (AT&T) and a Galaxy S7 (Samsung). The location for time zone wouldnt pick up mine, it kept defaulting to China and I had to manually set them to my time zone.
Resolution is very sharp. It's pretty snappy and I've had no problems listening to whatever audio app I want while using Waze.
The unit did hang when I went through an area of bad cell coverage and had to be turned off and turned back on to get working again. I also noticed a slight wine through the radio that I believe is linked to the Live Wallpaper I was trying out. When I went to a blank screen, the noise went mostly away. I havent been able to get "Ok, Waze" to work yet (three finger tap works). I have yet to try Ok, Google. The unit boots quick after the first boot up (right away really, much faster than my Alpine unit in another car).
I installed this in a 2012 Ford F150 - I already have a rear camera in my rear view mirror, so I dont have one hooked up to the unit. I am using a powered JL subwoofer and separate Rockford Fosgate amp for my speakers. I do have a slight alternator whine when I have the volume turned all the way down.

Hey now! Researching for a friend that just decided to replace HU. Very interested - please keep reviews and details coming!
Couple questions for you now please?
1. Volume knob - responsive/no lag? (for the wife..)
2. FM radio reception is good? (also wife)
3. Aux video out (to headrest screens) - typical composite (yellow RCA) out?
3.1 All content to aux (ie mirrors the HU display) or only certain content/apps? (or can choose?)
And last question regarding tech support / Pumpkin
4. Do you have any experience with them and their tech support? Would you call them: awesome/great/ok/meh/****? Their support?
Thank you.

1. Yes, volume works, is responsive with no lag.
2. I only played a couple of stations, but no reception issues (when I was out of cell coverage, I switched to radio no issues)
3. There are two yellow RCA video outs (see product page)
3.1 I don't know the answer to this since I didn't use these features.
4. They are on a 12-hour clock from us, so answers are usually next morning and I've always gotten a response next business day. I would call it "better than expected:. I wrote about the missing ODB connector and they wrote to say its on the way.

Great info man, thank you!
Hope you put up more experiences with it. Watching with great interest..
Overall, I am really enjoying this unit - its very responsive and the instant on is a great feature. The only thing I havent yet resolved is the 3-4 minute delay in connecting to an already powered on hotspot. Ive turned off notification of open wifis to see if that helps and will try turning off and on the hotspot. Basically I put an iPhone 8 Plus in the glove box with it plugged in for power so its running all the time - once a day I have to enable the hotspot, but its always on when I start the truck up. Just annoying it takes so long to connect to it.
quick question is the home screen customisable or are the icons and widgets fixed
You can customize the unit by using another launcher. Nova would be my first choice...
Correct, I switched right away to Nova (paid) as I use that on my phone. I've done just about everything I do on my phone here - widgets, etc.
Thank you for the update on this unit! I have an older model pumpkin stereo running 4.4 and it has gotten very laggy. I've tried factory resets to no avail (I'm using a customer ROM though). The lag is mostly on Google Maps (very slow to start and bring up navigation) and Pandora (plays okay but starts skipping near the end of songs).
I'm really thinking of upgrading to this unit. Since I had the older model, I bet I can just swap the head unit and keep all of the existing wiring. I really like the idea of the 1 second boot-up. With my current unit, it takes me at least 1-2 minutes to get music going (after boot-up, slow app startup, etc).
Can you tell me if Google Maps/navigation is okay? And Pandora?
Looks like the unit is avalable on AliExpress for $290:
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...er-GPS-Navigation-4GB/612847_32853310272.html
It's even a little cheaper through their mobile app with coupons (about $281).

Google Maps is fine, although I am using Waze mostly. I will probably download an offline google map just for backup. I have Pandora installed, but have not yet used it - Spotify and XM Radio apps work as expected. I'll try out Pandora on my way home today and let you know.
If you can get it for $290, I'd say its a heck of a deal and worth the upgrade for sure.
It's an MTCD/E head unit, specifically a Klyde (KLD) PX5.
See relevant MTCD forums for all the info.
Pandora and iHeartRadio also work perfectly; no lag.
I'm still trying to get my iPhone hotspot to crank up quicker - strange that the unit can see WiFi all around me right away, but the iPhone takes longer to recognize. I'll try my Verizon S7 Edge to see if thats any different.

I have resolved the connection delay with my iPhone - it was an issue with the phone. I finally found a post that suggested having an apostrophe in the phone's name interfered with its discovery. When I removed it, the phone now picks up the hotspot wifi pretty quickly (starts connecting in seconds and obtains an IP).

Thank you for checking! I just ordered the unit from Aliexpress, got it for $281 after discounts.
Good to know about the wifi. I also tether my current stereo to my phone so it's good to know there are no issues with the head unit in that regard.
Hey all,
New member here. Recently purchased a Chinese Android head unit designed specifically for my 4Runner. I'm not an Android user, but I have just become introduced with the concept of "rooting." My understanding is it is similar to jail breaking an Apple device, which I have done before. I've heard of and seen others do it with other head units running various versions of the Android operating system. However, I am not familiar with the concept of rooting or the process of it. I just know it will unlock a whole new range of possibilities for the unit, with the possibility of making mistakes that could render it unusable.
I was wondering if anyone who has experience with this type of thing can walk me through the process? Or what types of things I can do after its done? Please keep in mind I have no idea what I'm doing. Below are some more details.
Operating System Android: 10
Processors: CPU - T9 Octa-Core Intel IA 1.872GHz, GPU - Dual-core ARM Mali T820
Storage - 64GB
Memory - 4G
Screen: Display - LCD Multi-Touch display with IPS, Resolution - 1024x600
Connectivity - Bluetooth, WiFi, MirrorLink
Thanks in advance! :good:
Running the same setup. I've looked through XDA and haven't found many others actually using these units let alone successfully rooting them. Seems like its hard to find updated MCUs for these as well. The version I'm running is relatively recent(05/2020) and it's trash. I'll most likely just continue to use headunit reloaded rather than worrying about rooting.
What were you looking to achieve with a root? Are you missing some functionality or looking to add something new?

Not missing any functionality besides the main issues everyone has with it (CarPlay wireless sucks, and I know rooting would not solve this). I suppose the only really annoying thing is that when I start the car, it loads the default launcher instead of the one I installed, Agama, despite my having set Agama as the "home app."
The only thing I really want to do with a root is be able to have a custom UI that is much more functional and attractive. Agama is okay, but I don't truly like any of the head unit launcher apps on the Google Play store and I figure with a root I'll be able to install a custom ROM or something that will be more attractive. Ideally, I want it to look sleek and modern like the xtron unit UI (can't post the link because I'm a new user)

Did you give Agama system modification privileges when you set it as the home launcher? I haven't had any problems with my launcher, but you might have a different MCU. Might help if you share your MCU version. Is CarPlay native with your ROM or are you using an app/emulator for this? I know with emulators like Headunit Reloaded, a separate app for launching wireless is necessary and fixes these issues.
Honestly, given that you're new to Android and the issues you're describing, rooting probably wouldn't help you out unless you already had a ROM that you knew would work with your system and solve these issues. Since it's difficult to even find anyone that's successfully rooted this MCU, the odds of finding a ROM that works with it(let alone one that you like) is pretty minimal. Your issues sound like they can be addressed from the app side anyway.
I'd suggest looking through the launchers on here if you don't like Agama anyway. There's quite a few with a lot of complete customizability. And your wireless mirroring should be able to fixed with a bit more info.

MCU version: Ts9.4.3-3-63-30-C06681-190618
Not sure if that is what you were asking for. CarPlay is through a program called TLink that came installed on the unit. I suppose I would be more happy with the unit if the launcher did its job - launched, when I started the car. Modification permissions are on. Someone in another forum mentioned changing some autostart settings, in autokit.apk, that would allow me to start the correct launcher or carplay when I start the car. I would be happy with either option really.

Yes that's what I was referring to. TLink is just a crappy mirroring app. This is most likely where your problem is with the connection, not the headunit or the ROM. I'm assuming you're using Apple since you're referring to Carplay and not AA. If so, I don't have any specific recommendations but I would imagine there's better emulators/mirroring apps out there that will function reliably. I'd look into that rather than trying to make TLink work like it should. If you want a reference of an Android Auto example, look at headunit reloaded. This app emulates a native Android Auto connection so you're able to have wifi auto connects, usb auto connects and full AA function on a generic android headunit without any type of dongle. I would imagine there's something similar out there for Apple Carplay.
Your MCU is out of date, I'd try to get the update from my seller for you but I'm actually in the process of returning mine due to a display defect(most likely shipping damage). If it wasn't for this, however, I would have had no issues on the stock ROM.
which TLINK app version do you have? TLINK is actually ZLINK (modified). I can offer you version 3.7.5. Runs a lot better than other versions.
Hi there,

Hey all,
New member here.
:good:

@comt - 2 questions about TLINK 3.7.5 (I have it also):
Have you been able to get the steering wheel buttons to work with CarPlay apps? I want the voice button on the steering wheel to activate Siri. Right now, it is only mapped to TLINK which starts the TLINK app...
Have you been able to get it working in wired mode? For me, even though the headunit recognizes when I attached the phone via USB, I can never get CarPlay to work wired.
thanks!
I am interested in Tlink 3.7.5, I currently have version 1.1 I believe on my headunit and im getting lag, Echo during calls etc I dont know why my headunit has such an old version
Has anyone figured out how to train the steering wheel buttons in the TLink app to work with CarPlay? As long as CarPlay isn't active, there is a menu to set them, but no matter what I do, I can't train it - I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. My steering wheel buttons work fine with the default Android OS.

Did you have to reactivate Tlink?
My head unit came with an old version of tlink that would never connect to my phone. I received a firmware "update" from the seller to address the issue which which caused a tlink error. I recently installed Tlink 3.7.5, no error but needs activation.
