[Q] Wireless charging + Case help - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought this case, amazon.co.uk/Textured-Design-Protective-Leather-Holder/dp/B00HQ6SAR6/ref=sr_1_24?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1390735635&sr=1-24&keywords=lg+g2+case+ecell primarily because it replaces the need for my wallet. But I am interested in Wrieless Charging.
As I am British I have the D802 version of the LG G2, ie without a removable back or built in QI receiver. Knowing nothing of QI Charging I was wondering if a receiver would be able to charge through the case . Listing a receiver and compatible charging base would be appreciated

up

I am using an it Ian one and slim armour purchased on eBay. Slow charge though.

dont know how thick that case is and whether the material difference would make a diff. slow charge isnt a problem its actually good because it preserves the battery integrity over time

[Q] Which Wirless Charger?

What wireless charger do you buy for use with this phone? Thanks.
well if they ever decide to release pricing and availability information I wouldn't mind grabbing the Fatboy Wireless Charging Pillow for the new Nokia phones.
This is probably a stupid question, but presumably the wireless charging won't work if there's a case between the back of the phone and the charging unit?

As long as the case isn't metal, it should still charge.
Since it appears Google isn't making their own, can someone list a few good wireless chargers compatible with the Nexus 4? Thanks.
just do a google for " qi charger" you'll find a few

Nope!
I would my best bet. The wireless charges that the iPhone use like that energizer pad?
#Galaxy Nexus HSPA+
Any QI Charger will charge the Nexus 4.
Touchstone chargers will not work.
Possibly this or the one-position variant of that product.
I have one of the Lumia 920 fatboy chargers, will that work?
I had the Nokia 900 wireless charger from Verizon and it wouldn't work correctly w/ my N4. It kept cycling from charging to not charging. I know it wasn't the chargers problem because it works fine with my dad's DNA. So not sure if I've got a faulty N4 or if the charger just isn't compatible. Anyone else try it?
I have the energizer wireless charger, while it works perfectly with my nexus 4, I must recommend against it.
The reason being the back of the nexus is glass, the surface of the charger is glossy plastic and combined with the slight angle of the charging surface, my nexus is happy to slowly slide on the charging surface.
Easy fix by putting some glad wrap on the surface, but detracts from the clean look of the charger

Exact same problem here (charging-non charging cycle). Neither the wireless charging stand nor the wireless charger on the JVC sounddock works for me (both say they should work with qi compliant devices however)

Galaxy s4 wireless charging?

So I just bought this wireless charging dock last night: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=400461623073
And thought that this is all I would need in order to charge my battery. However, Now I'm worried I will need a battery door. Does anyone know git certain whether or not I will need a different battery door to use wireless charging (currently using the one that came out of the box) if so, where would I be able to find one at? Thanks in advance!

Samsung is releasing a battery door that's compatible. They haven't set a release date for it yet though.

Don't need to get a new battery door. That new Samsung door will actually be larger than the current one. Some/many cases won't fit.
Get this instead - wireless receiver that fits inside the stock battery door:

I pre-ordered the one for the S4, after it was written up on Engadget. It hasn't been released yet, apparently, so I'm still waiting.
Here's the Engadget article. Some good things said about it in the comments:

The order site says that it will ship by May 31:

Well, I just bought it. Will review it when I receive it on the 31st.
I just went ahead and bought a $10 s3 qi receiver, hoping it will work but if not it isn't too much money down the drain. Will let you guys know how it works

Samsung is terrible with the S4 accessories.. they release a new battery cover just to enable wireless charging.. ok fine.. but they release a stupid 70bux transparent flip cover that doesn't support wireless charging.. so basically i can never get wireless charging if i ever want to use their oem products or i need a special case if i want to use their oem wireless charging cover and fit?? real smart thinking.. guess i'll give this kit a try too
I thought it was the battery it self that has a coil in it for the NFC and that was for charging?
if not I have my palm pre still that has that wireless charging - could I take that battery cover apart and take that coil out and just attach it to the inside of the phone
I dont see anywhere where a battery cover with this built in will connect inside like it does on the palm pre, there arent any contacts that I can see that will go to the battery charting how would this work

Are you sure you are looking at a GS4?
There are 4 contacts. 2 to the left and 2 to the right of the flash. I think the left ones are for charging. I am basically ready to do what you said but need to figure out the polarity of these contacts.

To the guy worrying about the flip cover - there are tons of wireless charging inserts on eBay. You don't need the Samsung back, just get one of those things and stick it under the cover.

I'm hoping yours worked. I've had a qi receiver in my S3 for about 6 months now. I pulled it out to see if it would work in my S4 and it doesn't quite fit. The pad would fit, but it lays over the sim card and mSdcard, which probably wouldn't be a big deal, but the problem is the two small brass contacts don't quite fit in the square charging holes on the s4, they're probably 0.25mm too large and slightly to far apart for the S4.
My S3 pad is about 6 months old though, so hopefully the newer s3 pads have been modified to work with both phones.
I love wireless charging though and just went ahead and ordered a qi pad for my s4 from the fastech link earlier in this thread.

Does the Note4 support wireless charging?

I haven't seen this covered and if it has been, I'd appreciate anyone posting a link to the article. Does the Note4 support wireless charging or will we have to get one of those stickers as we have to do for the Note 3?
Thanks in advance
nevermind, answered my own question, same crap. How come they can include wireless charging in the S5 but not in the Note4? Seems like they did some great stuff that seemed very basic and rushed the Note4 out without the same tech such as dust and waterproof. I don't get it.
I have been wondering the same thing. I certainly won't get one unless it has Qi charging. I am assuming they will release a wireless back cover again.

I don't want to buy another back or another "sticker". How is it other models have it built in and this, their "latest" version doesn't? This is truly a step backward in the Note series. Huawei's devices are looking very nice right now.
I wonder if the quick charging will work with wireless charging?

No. They are two separate things... a given Qi charger only puts out a limited amount of power.
Do the Huawei phones have wireless charging? After you mentioned Huawei I checked out some of their best devices but couldn't see any wireless charging options.
If it is wireless charging, does it mean it will have a magnetic back? I need that so I can stick it to my car CD slot caddy.

^^What he said^^ and theres no way any wireless charger can do that, also given my experience with the LG G3 I am not ruling out damage to the battery or device due to overheating whilst wireless charging, my battery life on G3 perished after such time as I started using wireless charger.
I may be wrong, however, its fairly coincidental.
On a related note the pins are definitely there for wireless charging but no coil as far as I can tell.
Note 4 DOES support wireless charging with the correct door and or cheap coil which im sure will be available soon.
Glad to hear that it supports Qi charging (with add on). Since going wireless on my Note 3 I'll never plug my phone in again.
I'm pretty sure the reason the Note wasn't certified dust and water-resistant is the large long opening in it to accommodate the S-Pen.

I don't see why Samsung or any smartphone company hasn't started using the vapor/nano-coat waterproofing. It wouldn't matter how big any hole is. See HzO, P2i and others.
The day I get my Note 4 I'm sending it in to get 'vaporized'. Only ~50 bucks, totally worth it for a $1000 device that fits in your pocket.
Idk why Samsung doesn't include the wireless charging back to begin with. That way all the cases would still fit it. It's irritating to say the least.

Same here. I use the stock samsung wireless cover I think I got for 20 bucks for my note 3. It works great with the TYLT and I don't use usb anymore. Even when traveling I have a portable battery "ravpower" with QI built in and it works great.
Because then they couldnt charge you the $40 for a new back.

LG G4 QI Wireless Warning / Issues

I bought the CFR-100 Quick Circle Case with the QI coil, and was planning to rip it out but the case is actually quite nice so I'm using it as is - but be warned. The power requirements of the G4 seems to cause issues with existing QI pads (but I would hope not the official LG one) - I have tried it on a Maxell Dual coil pad, and it didn't work at all (the light just blinked and nothing happened on the phone), and on my Panasonic QE-TM101 moving coil pad it didn't work either, until I took off the clear plastic shield that comes with the pad, and even then to get it to work it is touchy and requires me to press down hard on the phone/pad for a few seconds to get the charging going....so it sort-of works with the Panasonic QE-TM101.
Edit: a friend has a white version of the QE-TM101 (mine is black) and it works all the time, no issues - but on mine, the issues are as above....it still doesn't work at all on the Maxell dual coil pad.
Edit 2: It may be variations in the quick cover case because it is all VERY touchy.....I took apart my black QE-TM101 and lengthened the spring that pushes up the coil, I also poured boiling water over the top cover to try to warp it inwards - and this has now made it work better, not 100% but 9 out of 10 times it will charge now without me pressing down on it.
Now that's weird...
I seriously cannot understand how LG decided to drop proper Qi support. And now, if it's going to have problems with even additional accessories, it's worse.
I'm using Nokia-101 which works flawless on my G3 even with a hard plastic case. Wondering if it supports Quick Circle considering it's one of the first (if not the) Qi chargers.
I have the Tylt Vu (http://www.tylt.com/vu/) which I had been using for my Nexus 5.
It's just not working with the G4 official Quick Circle case
It's weird because the G3 is listed as compatible. I'll try again later today but I'm not expecting anything.
I have ripped the official sticker out of the circle case and stuck it into my brown leather back and it charges great on both the official qi charger and this rather cheap one Qi Charger maybe you have a faulty one?
Hm...

More power
I bought the quick circle case and was also having problems getting it to charge. I have a dual device Energizer pad and a cheap eBay pad. Neither was working with the quick circle case. Tonight I tried plugging the eBay pad into my 2A USB charger and it started charging. If you are having problems, try a higher power source for the charging pad. The Energizer pad still doesn't work, it has a non-USB plug power source.

QI stickers burning internal chip ...?
Hello,
Reading through XDA forum, I got the understanding that QI stickers (at least some of them) are not working very long. Some experienced troubles, despite changing sticker / pad to different brand/model.
Is there any really positive experience on long term?
And if yes, please share what sticker and charging pad you use
I have some cheap off-brand wireless charging pad+sticker, and it works, but it charges so slowly it's hardly worth using, and the position has to be just right.

This thread has some great info on the stickers and chargers various people are using and the experiences they've had. My post from the thread is below. I'm still using the same sticker and charger daily, and I've had absolutely no issues. A good quality sticker and 3 coil charger go a long way towards minimizing issues.

I installed the upgraded NeWisdom sticker a couple weeks ago, and I've been charging wirelessly each night since then. I have yet to experience any lockups. It does get hotter and charge slower than my previous phones that used OEM wireless charging backs (Galaxy S5, Note 4) or came with wireless charging built-in (Droid Turbo) when using the same wireless charger.

There is another thread around here with more information (Qi Charging Woes). Mine magically just got better. No more lockups at night, or anything. Maybe LG was pulling data at night and found it was causing lockups and tweaked the backup scripts. Lol. Kinda weird it went from 3-4 nights a week to none at all.

I doubt it'll work. I have a metal disc in my case for a car mount, and it covers the 'sweetspot' for the charger . I also think it will be too far from the charger base.

I cut 4 thin steel sheets and placed them around the sweet spot.
I then modded my choetech wireless charger and added Magnets around the charging spot.
The phone sticks to the wireless charger really well. Doesn't fall off while I'm driving.
