hello, i want to ask, why did my S4 when i try to OTA update it,, it always showing that i have already installed the latest update,
while when i plugged it and open the KIES it shows MK8 update available.
but i cant download if it was from KIES or ODIN, cause of the firmware size and my monthly limits.
it happens when im trying to update to the 4.3 from 4.2.2 as well, i have to bring my s4 to the service center.. but they installed the DXUEMJ5 not the MK8 (latest version) anyone can help?
i've never rooted my s4 or install any custom rom and my device status is official
Did you disabled any apps

Hello,
I've bought S4 few days ago. Out of the box I was running with stock firmware without rooting or CWM. Yesterday I've rooted the device and flashed CWM. Few hours later I thought that I'll be better off with stock firmware and updates available on time. But here's the problem: I cannot make OTA work anymore. I've flashed AMDE, the firmware which was out of the box (I have BOOTLOADER, PDA, MODEM, CSC and pit file). I've unrooted and flashed stock recovery. Whole device is official (Status: Official, Binary: Official, Settings > About device: Official) and flash counter is reset to 0 with TriangleAway. Still, after flashing stock firmware, it OTA still says "Newest updates already installed, while this firmware is 2 months old. Out of the box installed updates just fine. CSC is set to XEO as I live in Poland. I have no idea what to do next
Thanks in advance.

It just checks the update and acts like I have the newest one installed. Not "System modified" or something else, just there are no updates for me like I would have AMEA/BMF8 installed already, while I have AMDE.

buddy MF8 is latest one. If OTA will be available to your country it won't say "You already have latest firmware installed".

I've flashed AMDE like said earlier. But I do not receive AMEA update, which was possible when I bought the device. AMDE is way older than AMEA.
Kies also does not want to update my device. It shows my PDA: AMDE and CSC XEO but "Your device does not support update over the KIES". Everything has status "official" with flash counter 0, but acts like modified. It's annoying.

In the last, I would say, please let it updated using ODIN. Download the latest firmware of your zone & flash it using ODIN.
I had this problem with an s2 ages ago. Turned out I needed to reflash stock firmware and the csc. The problem is usually a mismatch between pda/cdc/phone but its working out which is wrong. Best bet is samfirmware site. Find the latest for your region and and carrier if its branded then flash that and try again

Well, the problem is that I work at Samsung's R&D and I have full packages ready to flash but non of them fix the OTA updates, and I cannot contact the developer responsible for OTA module
Thanks anyway.

Today XDA achieved best one here. Samsung's R&D officials asking help for their device. No offence.

If u wanna have OTA u must be running stock without anything custom like root also that is what would have made ur device modified
However to get OTA u can flash ur stock firmware and reset the device which will make ur phone official and try u should be able to get OTA
.
I did use triangle away and then decided to update the phone by kies new stock update which I no will take phone to stock which I wanted but after the update I did check the phone and it did give me new software. Although everything was the same on my phone such as messages ect.. As it was before I updated. It is just that I looked at my current software again the other say and it's now saying my old version not the new 1 I updated to via kies so I'm confused what's happening

That is the latest BTU stock rom on your phone . I looked back at your previous posts, it looks like you stated that your phone came with MDM in at least 2 other posts, so I think the update worked just fine!
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9500) which is rooted. Plugging it into Samsung Kies shows that there's an update to the MG9 firmware available for it. I'd like to know whether it will be possible to do a backup and upgrade with the phone rooted.
If not, how safe would it be to unroot the phone via SuperSU's menu before flashing through Kies?
Lastly, if I am going to be recommended not to do either of the above, then where can I get a link to manually download the latest, original firmware as well as a working root for said firmware, for my i9500?
Thanks for the responses in advance.

Don`t think if you`ll be able to update through Kies or OTA as you system is modified and the counter is raised. You`ll have to wait till Triangle Away will work for the I9500. Just flash the new rom with Odin and reroot afterwards.

Thanks for that.
Can anyone else confirm or provide me with a link to the latest official firmware? I have searched rather quickly myself, but keep getting results for the MG5 firmware instead, which is supposedly newer than the MG9 firmware. However, Kies tells me that the latest for my device is actually MG9.
If anyone could just shed some light.

Thanks for that. Not too sure where my device originated from, so I'll have to check the documentation when I get home or something.
Also, coincidentally I stumbled upon that website about 20 minutes ago. Didn't even notice they supplied the firmware.

The i9500 variant will use any i9500 software as far as I know. You can flash the UAE firmware on an Indian i9500 and it will work fine. This goes with any country, you just need to flash using odin

Updating will devalue your phone when you sell it in the future because people that want to buy the phone from this forum won't care for the phone after you update it. Why do you want a crippled phone?

There's a thread on how to update from MDL to MF9. Idk where though, sorry, you'll have to search. You could also just do what you did but with MF9 instead of the MDL.
MF9? You mean MF3...

Hi all,
my S4 is currently running stock 4.2.2 MG1 rooted and both the phone and Kies refuse to tell me if there is an upgrade available.
In the past Kies would let me get the OTA but I guess Samsung made some change.
So is there an update available (4.3) for Canadian (I337) S4 and how can I install it ?
Is root available yet ?
Thank you.

??? If your phone is rooted you do know your NOT suppose to accept OTA or you will ruin phone.
There are plenty of custom 4.3 rooms out there.

not really I always installed OTA updates using Kies with my SGS3/SGS4/Note 10.1 , 2 times each at least.
You just loose root access , thats it.
