My phone keeps on randomly rebooting. Is anyone having the same problem?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I am experiencing this problem too.
It rebooted once when I was using the Camera (Youtube HD Video mode)
Once When Trying to open Gallery.
And once while just sitting here on my desk at work.
I want to love this phone so bad! I really like it so far though, and the keyboard issue is def. not a problem for me, and I think it's probably a design flaw rather than a manufacturing "defect" considering there are no springs. It is very hard to recreate the hinge problem while holding it naturally, including at a 45 degree angle in bed.
I also have had a few reboots and also media server force closes while running other apps. Never had these issues with my N1. Luckily I still have it. I'll give it a few more days and probably end up returning this G2 and going back to the N1.

I have been waiting for a good QWERTY phone with a fast CPU and a WVGA, passed on the nexus one and kept my G1. After running CM6 on my G1 (usable but sloooow) there is no going back for me after using the G2.
I sure hope this is something fixable in a firmware update
Does it reboot all the way to the white htc screen or the grey tmo g2 screen? Mine does it to the tmo screen and seems to only happen when the phone has been sitting for awhile and I pass through an area with no reception and when I hit reception again is when it happens. Almost like its turning itself off but stays on enough to look for signal and then turns back on. I only say this because on my drive I know the spots where I lose service and the phone does the reboot in those spots. Anyone else?

Yea I had this happen today when roaming in nw ohio I think it may have started after taking pics of my niece. I also have a problem with the memory card it says it mounted read only and none of my pics or anything show up in the gallery.
The incredible used to randomly reboot. I believe that was due to when there was low signal. It was fixed with an ota.

It goes to the G2 logo screen.
I have also had two occurrences of it being stuck at that screen and the power button not responding to long press or anything, only solution was to remove battery.

That would make a lot of sense, I'm at work right now and my signal is very weak here, goes in and out all the time.
What about others who are experiencing this problem?
Also, I am using a Class 6 A-Data 8gb microsd partitioned for ext3/swap/fat (not the included card), and so far each time it has rebooted the USB cable was plugged into a PC (for charging only, no debug or mass storage)
I wonder if any of this matches up with others who are having issues?
Mines always happened not plugged in and has never gotten stuck.

g2 reboot and mulitple force closes
i am getting the reboot issue also, it seems to be random when i am opening an app or going in to basically anything. also i am getting multiple force closes in basically all apps. i did a master reset and going to reload all apps and such and see if that fixes anything.
Could be something you have installed too I remember some people having this problem when nexus first came out and they built a list and narrowed it down

There's a thread on Tmo forums about this issue, the guy fixed it by transferring his number to the new sim card that came with the phone. If you haven't tried it, give it a try.
I updated my sim and haven't had any reboots yet
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
For what its worth, my N1 reboots occasionally, randomly when I may be doing something. Happening ever since I got it. Maybe sone kind of exception happening in Android?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I have transferred my sim also and am still having this problem. It was after going through a no signal zone, which sucks because I am in hotels and places where I have no signal all the time.

Thanks for this tidbit. I called Tech Support and had my phone number moved to the SIM that came with the phone. Probably a long-shot, but what the hell...
Well, after 2 hours on a fresh charge, I sat my phone down for 15 minutes. When I picked it up it was dead (black screen). Had to pull the battery.
Seemed to be a weird fluke. Did have another reboot, though it felt Android related versus hardware.
-oldsk00lz
So it rebooted on me this morning in a spot with perfect reception. I was trying to open the xda app but it wasn't opening...almost like I didn't have any data. Fishy fishy..
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Mine actually rebooted twice on me, both at random times.
1st occurence - I was listening to pandora, skipped a song while the loading circle was going on, I tried to go back to the home screen and it did take me there but than rebooted all of a sudden - It went straight to the G2 gray screen with the T-mo logo
2nd occurence - again I was listening to iheartradio app, trying to switch to a different but it rebooted back to the t-mobile gray screen ----- i think iheartradio is not tailored for android 2.2 yet, so i thought it could be the culprit.. since it only supports upto 2.1 in the market.
but yea nothing else as of now... hopefully it wont happen again.
This happened to me for the first time today. I was on the web, pressed the home button and scrolled thru the screens to get to my widget and it froze on me and rebooted to the t-mo g2 launch screen.. it actually stayed there for a good 2 mins so I pulled the battery and rebooted after and it was fine.. is this an on going problem that'll be fixed soon? i hope?
I got my S4 from Sprint, yesterday and I noticed that the screen is getting realy hot about 105.5 °f, is this normal? Has anyone else experience the same problem?

Check if 'Mediaserver' is taking up your CPU/Battery (Settings -> More -> Battery).
Mine was at 55% for the first day of using the phone, got really really hot. Battery drained fast too. Problem disappeared by the 2nd day.
I got the same problem too, I have the unlocked version and posted about the same problem in the general S4 forum, many guys said it's "Mediaserver" but I don't know...
105 really isn't that hot. My s2 hits 125 according to gsam battery monitor when I'm gaming
If I helped you out be sure to hit thanks
Swyped from a minimalist S2
Yeah mine as been running hot when I got it and was just getting to know the phone. Then I rooted it the 2nd day and set my cpu at 1000mhz and still was getting up to 105 degrees. I don't like how hot the screen gets. I'm coming from an epic 4G slide and only got hot when the hotspot was on. I haven't used the hotspot yet so I could just imagine.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
I never checked the what caused mine to get hot. But I'm on day two of having it and using it way more than yesterday, no over heating today. I even played modern combat 4 for about 40 minutes and still good. The siii was hot by then.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
The only time mine got really hot was running antutu. other than that, it hasn't gotten more than warm. Even my 3D gets hot when I'm pushing it, so I don't really see a problem.
Anyone else? I noticed mine gets pretty hot just checking messages.
Yeah, I've felt mine getting pretty hot at the top of the phone.

Yeah mine can get pretty hot especially when I'm playing a game. However with Tasker profiles, greenify, Synker, DS Battery saver Pro, and SetCPU it cools down much faster.
Today my battery must have stabled out been on heavy with real racing 3 and Need for speed hot pursuit and been nice. It has been about 5+ degrees cooler than yesterday and a few days before.

maybe this is happened because of wcdma.

and lets all be clear here there is no heatsink on these cpu or other heat generating components. so they will fail (bga failure 100% Garanteed)
but for us yes they all will get toasty but should self correct cpu speed for temp etc.. (or give option)
and put some dam heatsinks on this stuff.
all my Galaxy's got warm and even hot.
but i was hoping the s4 would have some heatsinking. f
My Phone actually BURNED my girlfriends arm last night, I had it charging laying on the bed with me. She woke me up to show me how hot it was, there was actually some kind of warning on the screen, I can't remember what exactly because I was half asleep.
I took it off the charger and turned it off, but I can confirm, it was hot as HELL!
Hoping this isn't an issue because it was hot enough IMO to do some internal damage.
S4 overheating, grrrr
I know benchmarking is nothing but bragging rights, but when I try to run antutu my gs4 will just shut off cause its hot. Not sure if the case has a problem dissipating heat or what but this is getting old. . i had to take off the back and blow on it to keep it cool. man this is old. I checked and the media server is not the issue. I am over clocked but only one step above stock. Any suggestion.:good:

Take it back or at least have them exchange it out for a new one. I am on my second one, had my first one for two days before I took it back, and they just gave me a new one.
Sounds like a hardware issue or an app is running at full tilt. This is not normal. I've never had this issue. I also freezed or disabled a lot of apps once I got the phone and rooted it. This is NOT normal. Getting a replacement seems like the most logical and acceptable route. Could have been a manufacturing defect or faulty part causing a short. These phones probably use multi layered boards and components and the slightest defect could cause shorting or overheating. Defects are slipping past quality control or QC is letting them pass as acceptable just to get as many out to market as fast as possible. This sounds the most likely.
I have the phone in a metal case, so I really feel the phone when it gets hot. When ever I use the phone in the car as a GPS while charging, The phone does get insanely hot. I know phones heat with when GPS is used. But I never had a phone that was this hot. Could it be a kernel issue?

Good idea, I am having this issue, I had it with my S3, on the bottom of the phone, and my S4 is having it at the top of the phone.
I am going to carry on using the phone when it heats up too much, because it shouldn't damage the phone just for you to use it. If it does break, then I will send it back saying sort it out. I aint having Samsung sell a dodgy phone to me or anyone because they are just trying to keep in front of the competition. It's stupid.
Hopefully they will have common sense in the future. I have had the S1, S2 and S3 and S4, and been happy with all so far, but a bit annoyed about the heat issue on the S4 more than the one on the S3 because they have had enough people saying about it previously.

I had the S, S2, S3 and never had heat issues like the S4, only after an 1hr of GPS or gaming but not as much - I can cook an egg on my S4 just while surfing the web, what a nice feature!
When i dont touch for a while it is at 33C, but as soon as I read emails or light web browsing it reaches 44C, if then on youtube 48-55C.
when it get hot the battery % drops significantly and then when it cools down it recharge itself!
I was somewhere on S4 forum writed, this heating come most if device is on 4G (LTE) network. Try put on 3G (HSPA) or 2G (GSM) and you will see (and feel) device is much colder...

Normally heat isn't a problem at all.
But sitting in a bus in direct sunlight with max brightness made it totally hot!
I was only browsing, so it was due to the screen.
When I had to make a phone call I had to keep phone a bit away from my ear.
It took 10-15 minutes to cool down again.
I think every single S4 WILL get really hot under same conditions.
Don't know how if this would be same for other brands like HTC One or iPhone

Yesterday I used GPS for 15 mins on power save mode and still got at 48C, battery dropped significantly.
I haven't see many votes yet which makes me think that it is not a common problem...
Standby - <27C° Browsing, video and other simple tasks - <45C° Games - <60C° So,overheating as well. Unfortunately.

Ideal temp 27.5 (C)
saving mode activated and nothing running in the back ground. Is it good or bad?
When mine got hot it would be from simple tasks like browsing the net for 10 minutes. At its peak, you could not touch your face with it to make a call. (Think its update fixed it though, must have been software problem for me).
No issues so far.
Do you run with auto-brightness? What conditions do you experience this in?
Hot ambient temperature, sunlight?

Auto brightness is on and working and still when i do few things on the phone the heat start to raise in an obvious way at the back of the phone around the camera area, then if i do make a phone call seriously the heat is very annoying to a degree that makes you just want to finish the call cause its very hot.
Hmm.
I guess there's a wide spread then. From perfectly fine to absurdly bad and maybe even defective. :\
So galaxy note 3, fully stock, *NO* root no anything. Upgraded to 4.4 and running super hot even just in my pocket not being used without apps open. And even worse charging and using it, any idea what's going on? I'm thinking the cpu is running full blast no clue. (Nor do I have phone on hand, not mine)
Factory reset your phone and try it again..if that continues call vzw maybe you need a new phone

Take your sd card out and see if it cools down. Same thing happened to me before my sd card fried.
I`ve had the phone for 3 days now and before upgradin from the Iphone 6 ( my first and last iphone) i was really anxious about the many issues listed in the forums especially the touchscreen problem. When i initially got it i started testing everything and I`m glad to say that everything worked fine (sooo relieved) but when i charged it for the first time it charged very slowly, about 3 hours for a full charge, and it got really hot when using lightly the 3rd day a did a factory reset and immediately noticed the the battery charged way faster about 1% per minute ( i dont know how it compares to you other guys) and the phone didnt get nearly as hot. From all this i belive that LG did e very good job hardware wise but i think like many other conapnies fell a little short on the software department and hopefully it will be fixed in the updates to come.

Glad to know its not only me. Have you used a QC with the phone? I ordered a Tronsmart 2.0 QC off ebay hopefully it will work faster without any issues.
I bought the Tronsmart QC 2.0 and its awesome. I go from 48% to close to 100% in the 45min car ride home. I do not notice any heat that is worrying. It does get warm when charging but normal.
My G4 was raging out of the box. Super hot. Brightness was being throttled back between 100, 90, and 80 pretty frequently and it went from 60% to dead in like 15minutes. After I wiped and setup as new, it has been running as one would expect.

Glad to hear that ☺. I actually purchased the wall charger but i guess the performance will be similiar. The one thing i noticed today was the battery life, it seems it is not that great during very light usage but that may be due to the fact that these couple of days the reception has been awful because the carrier im using (Vodafone) is switching to 4G for the first time in my country and ,a little out of topic i know, the download speeds have shocked me, my home connection max download speed is about 400-500kbps and today i witnessed 15-20mbps.
Battery does drain faster in low signal areas. I found that a slow charge at night yeilds longer charges throughout the day. I use fast charge in the car so I can use GPS and still get a charge. But at home and office I use Qi Wireless Charging. I use fast charging at home but only when I am doing heavy useage. I slow charge while I sleep.

It could be the phone is performing media scanning which keeps the phone awake. This should be completed in a day or two.
If you still experience battery drain after couple of days. I'd suggest performing a full format of the micro SD card on a computer. Incase there are bad sectors on the SD card that the phone is stuck on try to read them.

The funny thing is that the the two buying factors for me were the removable back and the micro SD slot, and the only issue I have may or may not be with the micro SD and a slightly loose hinge on the left side of the battery cover but I have experienced that with every phone I had including the g2 and the iPhone 6 without a removable back that had this issue.
Hey,
This is my first LG phone. I'm a bit disappointed, but the camera makes up for everything (mostly).
First of all, the device I'm using right now is the third one within a week. I got it from Vodafone, and the first two had the same issue. When the screen was on, and showing bright things, the front speaker would give out a high pitched whistle sound. You could only hear it initially if you held it to your ear. However in recorded videos it was clear and loud enough to be very very annoying. This third unit is ok it seems, but my advice to everyone is to try the G4 before leaving the shop. It might just be a bad batch that was made for Vodafone, a similar thing happened to me with my HTC One X, that had screen issues, and there too I had to go through several devices.
I did notice lag, Nova Launcher helps, but I'm really looking to root the thing and putting CM or some AOSP rom on it. My S5 seems way snappier with BlissPop on it. The only problem with that is I loose the camera app, the thing I bought it for in the first place.
The battery is ok, but I expect more. I haven't had heat issues. The GPS draines the battery though really bad. If you don't use a charger whilst navigating, you'll go flat within an hour, which is not stellar at all. If you use a normal 2.1A charger, you can keep it on level, or might even add a few %.
The camera is awesome, and the leather back too. Cool that at Vodafone you get the leather and a plastic back in the box.

Thankfully I didn't have any hardware issues, I have the Hong Kong version because there's where most of retailers get the phones in my country, I think there's a lot room for improvement software wise and I'm hoping coming updates especially android M, will refine this device even more. I really hoped my I would get the plastic back cover in the box and I'm really jealous of those who did ??
Im starting to notice two more things with the G4, the battery cover (leather) is making a creacking noise when i press it on some areas, and the other one is the with the vibration motor that makes a little bit of noise compared to other phones ive had, has any of you guys experienced this?

Glad to know its not only me. Have you used a QC with the phone? I ordered a Tronsmart 2.0 QC off ebay hopefully it will work faster without any issues.

I have charged it using my wifes samsung QC. Don't notice much difference over the stock LG charger.
I'm not going to resort to a factory data reset because I shouldn't have to
come to think of it maybe I will try a reset
