Hey guys,
i have a problem with dust in the frontcam of my galaxy s...
I don't know how it came in there, but it is defenitly there!
Anyone have same problems and maybe a solution for this?
I already contacted the samsung support, but they just told me i should send in the phone and this wouldn't be free -.-
Maybe someone has already opened up his galaxy and removed the dust manually...
Thanks in advance...
ps: i will post some pics if i find my cam again
Does it dramatically affect pics taken with the FF cam?
If it's under warranty, and wasn't due to abuse, they can't charge you for anything other than shipping in most countries.
Yeah, i already compared it to a friends brandnew galaxy s, we just placed them next to each other, and activated the frontcam...
There was definitely a difference, his colors were much better and mine looked a lot more pale!!!
I don't really use the frontcam very often, so it is not that dramatically, but a phone in this price-class should normally not have problems like this...
If anyone else has same problems, so please reply, i don't wanna be the only one with dust in my cam >.<

You can go into your camera and then select "self-shot" in the shooting settings.

Didn't know that... Thanks!
The problem is still there -.-
Has anyone already opened up his galaxy s?
If i'd send it in for repair, this will take up to 4 weeks... definitely tooo long!
If it's easy to open i would try to clean it on my own
Am i really the only guy, who has dust in his frontcam, can't believe that >.<
dust solved by Samsung service.

Hi i solved the problem bringing my Galaxy S to the samsung service, i don't nknow what they have done, but i can't see any sign of opening.
I read in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802704 that the dust came through the 3,5 jack to the front cam, but i don't think so, because the component 3,5 jack is isolated... Any idea?
had mine for nearly 9 months and mine is dust free
Why dont you get a can of compressed air and try blasting it down the headphone and USB socket ? Or even around the bezel and speaker.
Infact, just spray the whole bloody phone with it lol
Compressed air is cheap.
Hello, everybody!
I recently replaced my Nexus 7's screen and digitizer and now my screen looks really bad.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to fix it?
I've tried taking everything apart, twice, to see if maybe I hooked a wire wrong or something but I get the same results.

this is what's put me off getting one from ebay, mines only a week old and cracked due to not that much thumb pressure debating cutting my losses and throwing it in the bin if this is how weak the screens are
You should really change that. There is no way that is a software issue
Hello, I have Galaxy S4 I9500, and recently my phone was sent for a repair in a lab.
This guy at the lab tried to fix the problem, wiped the phone and changed the rom, and after he didn't managed to fix the problem he sent me the phone back.
The problem is that now the phone's back camera is blurry, and the front camera is fine.
How to fix this problem?
help
where is the lab?
Bring your S4 to official service center. Hope the warranty didnt void yet.

I too have this problem. As soon as I bought this phone last May 2013, I phoned up Samsung's service centre and after pestering them daily for 6 days straight, I was able to get through to a real samsung executive, not the voice call centre handling people.
This guy told me that the hardware for the camera can be replaced and that this will fix my problems.
Believing this person, I took it to the Samsung authorized service centre where The existing camera hardware was diassembled and a brand new camera unit was then affixed on to my phone's motherboard. - I saw this process.
Unfortunately, the pictures came out the same even after the replacement. I called up the samsung executive again and asked for a full phone replacement or refund. He explained to me that is impossible. and that I had to live with the camera quality provided.
I have now started accepting the poor quality photos - I too feel that the front cam is 500% better than the rear cam, and wish that I didnt fall for samsung's 13MP camera advert bullsh*t.

The point is the camera was fine, and suddenly it just became blurry while the guy tried to fix it.
You think it has to do with the hardware and not the software of the S4?
help?
Help :/ ?
I downloaded FV5 Camera and I managed to find out that the problem is with the focus, because sometimes I get good pictures but it happens in rare occasions.
How can I fix this focus problem in the camera? I think it's a software problem.

Hey sorry for the delay.
I feel that its a hardware issue, most probably with some precision component getting misaligned or something - not directly related to the camera unit, i suppose.
No amount of software tweaks can fix slow camera h/w - because of which blurs are too common...

can't the kernel be the issue?
Given that I am not familiar with how android kernels work, I cannot include or exclude it from suspicion...
even if such a fix can be made available by the many geniuses in XDA(if you are reading this, thanks guys!) increasing the speed at which the kernel performs precision control on the h/w components will increase the battery drain, wont it?

I found out that the only problem is the focus, the phone doesn't know how to focus properly.
Sometimes the images aren't blurry, because the phone focused right, but this happens in very rare occasions.
Help?
Help???
I found out that the camera focus works only in VERY bright pictures, only then the camera works.
When I look at light with the camera it suddenly focuses and works, but if I look at area which isn't very bright the focus starts to lose.
How can I fix it? Please.

kit Kat had nothing to do with blurry images, at least in my case. the crap images came even when I was on 4.2.2...

I found out that my friend updated his S4 to KitKat and he has the same problem.
As I said before, the images are perfectly fine when I take photos at VERY BRIGHT enviroment, where the source of light has to be nearby,
then the camera's focus works properly. But if it's not very bright, then the focus starts to fade, until it's blurry.
hello,
today i gave my i9506 in repair for changing display unit. the man in the shop i gave it to said that there is no difference between i9506 and i9505 when repairing the display and they will build the i9505 into it. but i read somewhere that there is a small difference. do you know about that? because i am confused now and scared that they will break my device

Hey
If I were you, I would contact Samsung support by mail or phone and ask them if this statement is true. I could believe it's possible, but again you never know when it comes to Samsung. They could have changed a little bit...

Done. The Support couldnt give me an answer on my question.. I will see what happens.
U can compare the devices on different internet sites and u will see that there is NO difference between those displays
well, there might be no difference, but actually, yes there was ! o:
i got it back yesterday, and it worked for 1.5 hours with restarting whole time and than it was dead and didnt boot normal or into recovery or download mode.
Now they have to reapair it better.. with i9506 display that will work 100%

yes.. they have differences.. if you control the codes on the seller sites you can see that they are different and incompatibles. it seems also that i9506 is a little brighter and larger. anyway the product codes are different
Hello.
So? Is there any happy ending?
I have changed display from i9505 too. and Phone is hanging, turning off and overheating...
Im interested if this is because of different display or because phone was wet when damaged display...
update: removed Antenna + Loudspeaker. phone still hot. but works now. So i do not believe that it is because of screen....

hey, nice to hear that it might not be the screen, for me the result is still unknown. My device was not working after letting them put i9505 display in it. It worked for quite an hour, than it restarted very very often and suddenly it didnt do anything at all. No Download mode or recovery mode too.
The shop said, that the software was completely deleted for no reason. but they flashed the firmware again but the problem with rebooting and after all having a "dead" device was still there. Now they are trying to find whats cauing this problem, and the will send it to samsung if they dont have a plan what it could be ( but i definetly know, that it has to do something with the screen, because earlier, befrore the display change, EVERYTHING worked fine!).
Im so excited how it will end, and especially, who is going to pay, if samsung has to repair what the shop has done wrong
Its really interesting....
I think they could break something when disassembling screen... It was quite difficult to remove some flexible cables as they were stick to screen.
If you have Samsung warranty then you can take only to Samsung dealers to repair, otherwise you loose warranty. That's how it is in my country.
update: My s4 was dead for half a day. but now fully working. have already flashed recovery and rooted... works like a charm
(it were restarting sometimes, after rooting restarts somehow have stopped)

finally i think (and i hope) i got a solution. Thex have ordered a i9506 display unit and finally understood that theyve done something wrong. now they will try to fix it and see if the fault was caused by the screen or not ^^ in some days i will now more
Well after trying to learn a bit about difference between i9505 and i9506 and shv-e330s i came to a conclusion that they might be the same device if samsung didnt magically decide to complicate things. I9505 and i9506 have different hardware and their displays are obviously not interchangeable. But, nowhere on the entire frickin internet was i able to understand is i9506 actually shv-e330s. Or are their screens compatible. So i asked samsung like this:
Hello! I would like to ask is there a possibility to replace a broken display on SHV-E330S S4. My father purchased the phone in South Korea and brought it to Croatia, but the phone fell and broke the LCD display. I am trying to find the display for SHV-E330S but I cant find any on the internet. My questions are - can I order a replacement display from Samsung directly? Or can I use the display for i9506 S4? They seem to be same variations regarding hardware inside, except for the DVB tuner antenna for SHV-E330S. Thank You in advance for Your answer.
Their response was just that they cant offer service outside of korea and that they are very sorry. Havent even mentioned the question about i9506 and shv-e330s.
So there ya go. You got shv-e330s outside korea? No help.
different screens
Hello there,
yes it is a different screen
I suppose it is interchangeable because I9500 or I9505 screen (I can't remember exactly) is working fine on my phone. BTW, I got the part and replaced by myself.
But, please note if they replaced your front panel as well, probably your MB was damaged. The front panel is a different one.

Hey,
Yes there seems to be a problem, at least you cannot use a i9506 screen on a i9505 Phone.
Seems to be a Problem with the connector, because the screen works until somewhat applies too much force on the conector (not much, just a tip with the finger is enough), like the backcase does when it is clipped back on. So the connectors might differ on the on the models. Hope this helps someone.

So I cracked my rear camera today. My question is how do I know if its just the lens or the actual camera which has been cracked?
I can take pictures however they seem to have a faint blur and don't focus.
Also does anyone know if this will come under warranty

I don't know about the warranty, but I'd guess no. Can't hurt to call them and ask though.
The part is like $20 (USD)
And it's SUPER easy to swap it out yourself.
Here's a guide. With pictures. Specifically for swapping the camera.
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S4+Rear+Facing+Camera+Replacement/16538
Here is a video guide for complete disassembly of the phone. The videos can be more helpful in seeing how to take it apart.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm4f2XjQLAM
Once you have the new camera you will see that the whole unit just plugs into the motherboard. Once the board is removed from the phone you literally just unplug the broken one and plug in the new one. It should take no more than 15 minutes to swap out the camera from start to finish.

So is the camera broken or the lens?
Also the replacement part you spoke of, will it be like the 13 megapixel one I have now or a knock off? Because I thought it would cost way more for a 13 megapixel camera.

I have no idea. You'd have to take it apart and look at it. If it's the lens then I think those are available on eBay and Amazon for like $7 USD
As for the camera itself, buyer beware. They are all over the internet for $20 - $30. Some get rave reviews as being perfect. Some get complaints that they don't work at all.
I have a suspicion that many of the negative reviews are people who don't know what they are doing or who bought the wrong part. The i9500 S4 and all the others (i9505, M919, etc etc etc) are different S4s with different camera hardware. Most people probably don't realize that all S4's aren't the same.
Here's an ad for one...
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-rear-camera.html
It talks about making sure you have the right phone for this part and how to tell the difference. I don't endorse that website. You'll have to research it yourself to see if it's legit or not. I've never used it or heard of it before today. It was the first thing that popped up on a Google search and it seemed to have good info on the replacement parts.
In any case, it's not an expensive part. It's all about finding the correct one for your device.
Also, make sure you get the REAR camera and not the front one. One genius on Amazon reviews said how this is the entirely wrong part and it doesn't fit in the phone at all. He was clearly trying to change the front camera and ordered the rear camera. So take your negative reviews with a grain of salt. There are a lot of 'repair experts' out there who shouldn't be allowed to change the battery.
