Dear owners of all tab 10.1,
I recently bought a Tab 10.1, but every time when I reboot the machine, I see an unlocked padlock at the bottom of the screen. Does that mean the tab comes with an unlocked bootloader or in fact my device was being tampered (unlocked) by someone before being sold to me?
Tks in advance!

unlocked / rooted is not good if you plan to use googles movie service
Thtas what i thought when I saw the unlock icon and I am still thinking that the devices with the unlocked icon has sold before to someone and maybe that person unlocked it and return it back. And then Samsung repack it and sent it back to the retailer and sold again. That's just my thinking I can be wrong. I made this assumption because the tab I bought from best bu NY union square it did not have unlock bootloader sign and the battery life was do so good. But I exchanged it for some reason the next one I got was from queens area and it has unlock bootloader and the battery life is so not good.
People were getting unlocked bootloaders on launch day. How could they have gotten a refurbished unit then? That takes at least a couple weeks turn around... They came unlocked from the factory

Kevin bb selling it from June 8 in nyc which according to my knowledge were all locked. So there is a chance there were return back to bb nyc which eventually returned to samsung and they fix it the problem but to make them happy they unlocked it by their selves. The faulty thing in the unlocked tab is the battery i guess.
Kevin can u plz tell me which ppl did get the unlocked one on the launch day? Do you know that person? Or did u saw any post here in xda plz give the link thanks
Unlocked/32g/amazon 6/17
Now with cwm and root. No issues.

Tks for the info guys, pls keep posting so ppl here can know more abt this issue.
I bought mine from a shop in hong kong which is a grey import from the US. The box was sealed with an unbroken sticker, but I have to admit that reproducing a sticker is a very simple thing.
From the the time the shopper opened the box and took out the device, everything seemed to be untouched before, but once the device was booted, I saw the unlocked padlock!
BESIDES, I realized that my camera app doesn't look like the one ppl posted on youtube, that is the dial control on the right side of the monitor, instead I got a very simple one with button options on the left... what abt you guys?
It's without Samsung touchwiz!

So you think that all the units that were sold locked were returned and refurbished to be resold again on the national launch day? The number of units on hand at the initial launch in NY wouldn't be enough to support that. Why is it so hard to believe that you bought a brand new, never been touched, unlocked Tab?
And by the way, being locked or unpicked has nothing to do with battery life whatsoever.

Judging by this poll: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148065 , it looks like a majority were shipped unlocked.
God where do I begin...
Okay so I bought the Note 3 from my mechanic (child hood friend, not a shady character) brand new unopened out the box. I asked him where he got it from and he said his brother gave it to him to pay back some money he owed him. I bought the phone for $500. He said it was AT&T. I don't have AT&T, I have MetroPCS. So I figured I could take it to MetroPCS to get unlocked and just use it as I did my wife's samsung galaxy s3 mini. I took it there and the guy couldn't unlock the phone. I called up samsung and gave them the imei number and they couldn't locate the phone. She concluded that it was an over-seas phone. Another thing I noticed is that the IMEI number in the back of the phone doesn't match the one on the box in addition, the imei in the phone is all 1's.
So my question is, there anyone way to unlock this phone and make it so I can use it in the US?
The info: (in the phone)
IMEI: 111111111111111
Mobile network type: unknown
Model number: SM-N9006
Build number: JSS15J.N9006ZCUBMI5
Custom build version: I7208.7200.02.02.A.A-V0.0.4B0929
Also: There are some things I can't do on this note that other people can do on their's. Like the menu for Multi Window in there on the left but I can't drag out the window and place it on the screen. Only select it which just opens the app. Other things too but A lot to list.
If anyone can give me any kind of help that would be so much appreciated. Thank you.

Seems like a fake to me. The bezels on the phone are to thick.
Check the S-pen. Is the button a button or a button imprint. Is the stylus nib, the part you write with, removable or part of a molded pen. If they are then this is most definately a fake Note 3...
Its a bit hard to fake the wacom digitiser and pen without running up he expense of the phone.... Most are just molded plastic pens that look real but are all one piece...

Hi,
Been looking at the pictures and something definitely isn't right. The features of the device aren't the same so it's suspicious for sure. Best option is to return it to your friend and get your money back. He can then take it up with his brother.

That's probably most likely 100% fake too.
"After the camera" LOL
Real ones should have texts along the lines as this photo:
Sorry bro...
You can always use apps like System Info from the play store to check hardware and system info, but remember system info can be easily spoofed by the manufacturer.

Lol the vertical bezels ! Your 100% screwed.
Though the chinese clones look very much like a Note 3 they are never quite right BUT the S-pen is always the giveaway... Because they can't se or don't have permission to use wacom digitiser and pens they give an s-pen that's usually all one piece. Got a fake note 8 just to see what it was like, Not too bad but definately NOT samsung rom compatible...
If you were sold a Note 3 with a molded plastic s-pen you got a fake.... If you paid the same as a Note 3 then you got ripped off...
If you can get back to the seller then you might have a chance to get your money back, be an uphill battle though, but if you bought online then you are screwed....
it's clear that mine is fake, but the info: (in the phone)
IMEI: (not all ones) some long ass number
Mobile network type: T-Mobile (which is right)

I can do pretty much most things I usually do with smart phone. Though, it can't connect through 4G. It has ... dual core cpu, :crying:

I appreciate all the feedback guys and yeah I gave him the phone back and got my money back. He was pretty upset with his brother but the way his brother was talking on the phone it seems he got played too. Meh now I need the real Note 3 badly...
No problem bro.
Always remember these few things:
Whenever you buy any samsung device, the first thing you should do is check the photos of it Online and compare it with the device you bought.
After turning it ON, dial this code (*#0*#) and check if everything is working as it should. Don't forget to check the Settings>About phone.
Always keep in mind the model no. of the phone. Websites like GSMArena always have the model no. on top of the page.
If the IMEI is some strange collection of numbers (like 555555555) then it has to be a fake. Chinese clones usually have IMEI's of old Nokia phones.
I hope this helps you.

Watch a handful of youtube videos about S5 fakes to get a reasonable sense of how fakes can be identified.
Do not buy a used S5 from a stranger at market price. Wait for a bargain or distress sale to balance the risk. You risk hidden defects, fakes and in particular the risk of the phone being stolen and blacklisted. Note that some sellers may report a phone as "stolen" after selling it vis a vis insurance fraud. A phone may also be subsequently blacklisted due to the seller having an unpaid phone subsidy in arrears.
These are substantial risks and you would do well to walk away from transactions involving shady characters unless you enjoy buying expensive, soon to be blacklisted and unusable paperweights.
The sm-g900t (TMB S5) is the phone of choice for North Americans. It has the substantial advantage of an unlocked bootloader. Not to mention access to more bands than some other variants. So it's a better choice than an ATT model, even if you intend to use it on ATT.
Verizon, Sprint and USC are oddballs. The world over uses GSM, but these three cling to the incompatible CDMA system and their models only have limited overlap with GSM carriers.
.
to check if it fake or not look at the heart rate monitor and if you want to check it before opening the box , first take the imei number from the box and then go to imei.info and put the imei number and you will see if it fake or not , and the best choise is the model SM-G900F

The heart rate monitor works fine on some fakes e.g. No.1 (brand) "S7" clone. So that isn't a reliable test.
And IMEI numbers check out on many fakes.
Best model is subjective and highly dependent on where you live and what carrier you will be using it on.

for me as an expert with devices i can realize the quality and the original one
but normal people may get fake s5 :crying: damn it
and correction of your information , here in syria there is so many fake phones almost of them are samsungs clone
and everytime i used the imei way to check if it fake , it works.
but don't know if there are sellers in another regions that put an original imei to fake phones
If someone watches half a dozen S5 fake review videos on youtube, they would have a very good idea of where most fakes fall down and how they can be identified.
There are many characteristics that will identify some, but not all fakes, e.g. missing logos, non functional heart rate monitors, lower resolution camera, less RAM, etc. None of which will detect all fakes. Perhaps the best method, one that will work for all fakes to date is to run an extended benchmark suite. None of the fake processors will come close to an authentic S5 score.
.
@sadekmefti Absolutely yes buy it, i upgraded from my Beloved Gti9100 S2 => SMG900H S5 it is a big big upgrade i bought mine 4hours ago, it is charging up now it has a beauty of a screen , one awkward thing is the TW is ****ing crap! they should have innovated it more , i love samsung so i keep buying their products, TW seems to be the same **** i wish they had a similar launcher as the HTC Sense6.0 htc's sense is very very innovative and neat looking, but who care we can just switch Launchers easily so no problem mate. I still need to use it more to get to know more about it I will eventually root it , and i believe that will increase its performance even further just like it did on my beloved S2. In the end i would highly recoommend it Go for it buy it
Annd btw @fffft i have seen your post mentioning faked ones ! i have checked up on the IMEI before buying my s5 , buutt my question is will getting the IMEI check right Be enough to spot whether it is faked or not ?? i checked on the official imei website and the phone i bought (S5) was registered there so i guess that my s5 is very original then ?!?!
I just got the N9005. It was purchased from eBay, which I don't trust at all, so I want to check the authenticity of the product, which app is there is make sure the product I have is authentic/genuine? Other than app, any other things I shall check?
Also I am scared about this region lock thing. It's a N9005, unlocked version from Europe, and I am in India, so SIM card might not work, so is there any way around that, to get rid of the region lock?
Thanks in advance.
Try "Phone info" from play store
Download CPU-Z from store and see the specifications. Also download Antutu benchmark and run it. You should get a very high score.

For more check you may need to show the plate (sticker) on the back of the phone, behind the battery.
And also check if the IMEI and S/N on that sticker match with those in Phone INFO app. And scan the bar code and make sure it match with the IMEI.

"Received a demo S8" oh really? Maybe ask the store from where it was stolen from, they probably know the process to take it out of retail mode. If you bought it legitimately then it's the sellers responsibilty to provide a working phone. Is the wifi-only mode because the IMEI is blacklisted? I guess you don't live up to your username. Just kidding.
I googled it, there are pages and videos that tell you how to remove retail mode.
Go into development settings and turn off demo mode.. it's that easy ...
Settings...
About phone...
Tap build number until it says unlocked...
Then back out to setting
Then development settings
Then go down and turn demo off

Hello there
I also have a GS8 + demo unit and would like to know how can you remove or flash a new firmware ??
Thanks
Wow.... Its amazing all these Demo phones getting stolen and sold already.
I am not blaming anyone who buys them on Ebay... but realize this. Once the stores send it in, the new blacklisting methods on carriers share among the carriers. Once its listed. Account gets flagged saying you have an unauthorized device. After that, they suspend the account till you put a clean IMEI.
I know AT&T and its network sister partner services do this for sure.
I would say those who buy this from ebay as a Demo device, or from Craigslist. Ask them for the Invoice receipt or proof of purchase. (Claim in case of warrenty issues) if they stutter or make up an excuse. Realize its a stolen store phone which will get tracked. They may not go after the small 100$ or entry level phones but the high end galaxies and iphones... they sure will.

These are demo units, they are built with no IMEI or any of the cell antennas.
These are bought to use as WiFi only devices usually.
They are not blacklisted stolen units, those are completely different (and do exist a lot on eBay).

o.0 Where do you work at? Cause the "Demo" phones "I" get are fully functional from samsung. Then I install the retail demo software on it, which has the password. It syncs up with the demo software for that phone and off it goes. I can disable functions, protect it from hard resets and even open it all back up again.
Yes, they quite so have an IMEI.
However in fairness. If you have a wifi only S8 "demo" unit. Please share the screenshot of it showing no imei in the about phone info area.

All demo units in Qatar and MENA region are like that (in Samsung shops), I'll get you a screenshot when I go out sometime.
It will show IMEI 0000000000
Here is an example demo phone http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...198937?hash=item3d3ac81fd9:g:HyUAAOSw9OFZE-Kz
The back will have a NOT FOR SALE sticker without the usual IMEI printout even. Just a SRN
I see, so in those regions eh?
I know here in USA, Its a fully working model. Just is softwared to demo mode it.
