Nexus 7 was working perfectly last night.
I left in the charger overnight and this morning it will not power on.
Has anyone recovered from this issue?
New battery or something?
Help, please!
Thanks

My wife's n7 was doing something similar. She used it all the way until it powered itself off and then left it like that until the next day. It would not turn on or take a charge. It would start to turn on then power off.
Try this.
Plug in the wall charger to the n7
Immediately hold power and volume down to try and get into recovery (or bootloader) - this step needs to happen very fast after plugging in power.
In recovery select power down (in bootloader use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).
Unplug the power cord and plug it right back in. You should now hopefully see the battery charging screen.
Hope this helps.
Thanks wilzard,
I've already tried that, and have tried over and over again!
No joy I'm afraid, so I'm not sure where to go from here?
I still have my Transformer TF101, so I'm not totally lost
but it just doesn't measure up to the Nexus 7.
Cheers

I'm really sorry man. I wish I could help you more.
I'm assuming you read this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2090826 which details some of the main issues with battery and charging on nexus devices, and tried the things listed within?
I just read the OP and a couple pages, and I learned the nexus has a removable battery cover... neat.
If you haven't tried it yet, pull the back cover off, unplug the battery for a minute or so, put it back in a try it. You may need to hold the power button for up to 30 seconds to get it to respond.
Hope this works because I don't have any other ideas.
Thank you again!
I will work my way through those suggestions,
and let you know how I go.
Chris
It worked!
Took the back off, disconnected the battery, reconnected it,
and pressed On. Up came Cyanogen and away we go again!
You are my hero!

Hi,
Yesterday my Galaxy Tab suddenly went dead ... disconnecting/reconnecting
the charger ... removing/putting back SIM ... removing/putting sdhc ....
trying all possible button combinations while pressing the power on button ...
it didnt work ... My Tab was dead ...
I was looking up service centers adresses till i found by accident this mail :
www_mygalaxytab_net/samsung-galaxy-tab-how-to/a-dead-gt/
I followed his tip :
Keep power on pressed while touching the screen
The battery indicator pops up.
The Tablet reboots.
Everything goes back to normal.
I just wanted to share this information in case the same happens to one of you.
A great year to you all.

Dead Tab
This morning it happened to me: a dead Tab.
To bad, your tip didn't work for me so I am going to the Samsung service center which is (lucky for me) near to my house.
Hope to learn more there because it seems I am not the only one with this problem.
Problem solved. Press the on button and count to ten.
My Tab is working again.

U r a lifesaver kvanlier ! It happened to me just now and ur tip solved my dead tab. I nearly wanted to open up the tab to remove the battery and reset it. Thanks again.
If the were karma point here you would be a God , Thanks for saving me a trip to the Service center.
That happened to me two days ago. Got up in the morning and the tab would not turn on. Nothing I did worked so I took it back to TMO and they gave me a new one. Lucky for me I was still with in the 30 day buyers remorse bracket. But now I am wondering! If it happens I will at least give your remedy a try.
Just to make an update on this topic, I notice that when you got absoluted zero charge, my Tab only came back to life while using Samsungs own charger. USB port of my computer alone was not able to charge it back.

I can confirm this. My Tab appeared completely dead.
It had been running a CPU intensive test app while plugged into USB and was obviously using power quicker than it was charging.
There was no low battery warning - presumably because it was plugged in and therefore thought it was charging.
Plugging it into the mains brought up the charging screen. USB alone was not enough to get it to begin charging from completely flat.
Had me panicked for a few minutes
Thanks all for the useful tips.
I have also experienced some weird phenomena when the tab is solely plugged into a USB port. It will on occasion "play dead". Charging the Tab using the wall wart solves this issue. Unfortunately, I've yet been able to determine the root cause.

FANTASTIC!!! Thanks a bunch!
I was away from home when my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Running Galaxy Task 14) started acting like it was bogged down or in a program loop. So I decided to re-boot and, I'll be damned if there wasn't ANYTHING I could get to work. No CWM, No Download state, Nothing, Nada. Just a Black Screen.
I new the battery was freshly charged, so I didn't figure that was the problem.... Never-the-less, I was without my Tablet for the rest of the day.
Once I got home and had internet service from my computer I found your post and VOILA! Fixed in about 15 seconds.
THANKS AGAIN!!!
I bricked my GTab two weeks ago (I flashed wrong ROM from other phone). It was totally dead. No power on, download mode or recovery. The trick with charging and press power button for 10 seconds or more didn't work.
Then I tried UltimateUnBrickRessurector and flash the JPI ROM. Nothing happened. Out of frustration I ran UltimateUnBrickRessurector again until it put GTab in download mode and flashed JQ1 ROM. Suddenly the camera LED flashed brightly. However power on was still not possible. I flashed JQ1 again and it worked!
I don't know whether this affects only my GTab, but I could only resurrect it after I flashed older ROM than I had. I hope this helps anybody.
exactly what happened to me yesterday, u saved me money and time thanks
thank you so much!
Installed CM7 on the EVO 4G three days ago and everything has been working fine. Until today when I went to turn my phone on, nothing happened. It vibrated like normal when its booting up, but nothing came up on the screen. Since then, nothing is happening at all. No charging light when plugged in, no sounds, no vibrations, nothing on the screen, not showing up on computer.
What do I try to get this thing to respond?
Did I cause this or is this a hardware problem that just happened to be about the same time I rooted this thing?

What method of rooting did you do? You try a battery pull and hold the power button down for 15 secs with the battery out and try to boot it.

A bricked phone will have a red triangle looking thing that won't go away lol. One that doesn't respond is usally spanked silly lol. Tho there may still be hope your's isn't try the pull method on batt.
I pulled the battery, held power button and volume down while plugged into wall, no response. Should I leave it unplugged and not try the volume button with it?

Try it without being plugged in and with battery out just hold power button down. Usally clears some big issues. If it doesn't work then it could be spanked. Bad unit.

Do you have an extra battery to try out, or temporarily borrow from a friend? Are you sure your battery was charged up, and it didn't die? It sounds odd that it just did that out of the blue. I'd be suspicious of.a dead battery. They can die to the point that they will not take a charge, and they're totally dead.

That's true lol SBC kernels can spank battery quicker. Id try new battery if it's not it then Id swap it out at sprint.
I do not have another battery to test with, I will have to go to a sprint store to do that. I dont have the unit with me to test tonight, but I will take these suggestions home with me. Thanks guys. Lets hope I didn't brick my girlfriends two week old EVO. She loved the Cyanogenmod that I put on there.

I got my Nexus 7 on Tuesday evening. After about 6 hours of playing with it
and checking things out I decided to go to bed, so I put it to sleep (not turn it off).
A few minutes later I decided that there was one more app I wanted to download,
so I went to wake it up and it wouldn't!
I tried everything -- short press, long press, try to reset, connect to computer (not recognized), etc.
I decided to let it charge overnight (no charging icon showed up).
The next day still dead, so I called google play and they will be sending me a new one.
On one hand it kinda sucks, but I feel good on how they handled it.
The tech said it was a dead battery, I am not so sure I believe that but ...
Mine was like that out of the box. It's already been repackaged back into its box and I'm waiting for google to send a replacement.
I hope you guys get your replacements soon.
Rik.
Same thing happened to me - you need to realllllllllllly long press, for 30 seconds or more.

OMG thank you so much, I just had a big scare. My Nexus 7 crashed so bad it turned itself off, and I have never had to turn it on yet (came turned on, and rebooted by itself after the 4.1.1 update), and using long press like I do on my Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Tab 10.1 would not turn it back on. I tried plugging it in, no battery icon... I was really starting to think it was dead, then I saw your comment and just sat there counting...and eventually IT TURNED BACK ON. Phew, what a relief, thank you so much for posting this!

What kind of bothers me is that I was told that on my return, I have to put the new/replacement nexus 7 on my
credit card. If they deem that the warranty was voided, they will charge me for a 2nd device!
I would rather send them the broken device and if they decide the warranty is voided, send the broken
device back to me and I will try to fix it myself! I don't want to buy two of these devices!
And even if they don't charge me, I still have to check the device over. I have read where some people have
dead pixels, microphones that don't work, bad screens, and even dead devices like mine. I don't want to
have to do this a 3rd time
UGH

Many thanks chaps. You saved me some grief
google should send out some sort of network message for those that already have a nexus 7 , and any new ones that ship they should insert a notice..
either that, send out an update to fix this issue...
My so called "flawless" N7 did this today ( wouldn't turn on until I plugged it in, when it booted it still had 11%. Checked my mail and the whole think turned black grey and white and moved up and down quickly then shut off. Now it won't power on and makes a buzzing sound when plugged in. Think the display is dead

Hi guys,
Help me out, my nexus7 doesn't restart. I haven't rooted it and few days back it simply didn't restart. Every time i power on its shows google and than stuck to nexus logo blinking.
I tried to go to recovery mode but it doesn't work.
help me so that i am fix this problem. I am pissed off as this happend in a middle of a trip which let me in no where now.
Thanks guys in advance.
Have you try just turning it off completely? If you can't do this then plug the charger and let it sit there for a couple of hours to hold some charge on the battery. If this does not work open the back casing of the Nexus and unplug the battery and let it sit unplug for a few minutes and connected again. Before you attempt to turn on the tablet make sure you have the back cover on and then power on and see what happens. I'm sorry to hear this.

I can switch it off pressing Vol - with power button. I can get the bootloader screen and tried to go recovery mode but the screen get stuck.
I also did open the back cover but didnt find how to open the battery so didn't do much R&D and put it on.
Thanks
Than all I can think it must be an app that you install in the past couple days that has some virus.
All sorted out fine!
Thanks guys, all sorted out.
I didnt want to root it but guess Android sucks without hacks.
i used Nexus7 toolkit and unlock bootloader & root it. It did format my device but working as brand new.
Thanks again guys
Recently updated my n7 to 4.2, haven't done anything beyond rooting. I woke up this morning, watched an episode of Prison Break via Netflix and went to work. I always plug it in before I leave, and it was saying it was charging before I left.
I get home from work today, and upon trying to unlock the device, it doesn't turn on. I unplugged it, checked the plug in it was using, even tried multiple different electrical sockets. Plugging it in usually brings up the off charging animation, but nothing. Anyone know what might be going on?
My sincerest apologies if this has been asked/questioned before; I did a little searching before I posted this and couldn't find anything about it. Thanks in advance.

Try holding down the power button for 10-20 seconds.
If that doesn't work, try leaving it plugged in for a couple hours and check back on it.
Also try plugging it into the computer and seeing if your screen has gone bad, the Nexus 7 should still come up if it's on.
...I really can't believe I made a post for this..rofl. Thanks a lot, I guess I'm just a little too impatient to hold the power down longer than five seconds.

Had the same issue today...thanks to all for the quick and easy fix...feel like such a dork!
I'm having the same problem, last night I tried to turn on my Nexus7 and had issues.
My device is locked and upgraded to 4.2
While booting, the device would get to the lock screen then immediately power down. While it was powering down the screen would fuzz over and glitch a few times. As soon as it turned off it would repeat the process. I eventually got it into the boot loader and I noticed "based version: N/A" I'm not sure what that means but I hit start and now all it does is get stuck at the multi-colored X logo.
Getting back into boot loader I tried recovery mode, the response is "No command". Tried plugging it into my PC and I get the little (ba dum) sound but no device or folders to be scene.
I think i'm in trouble. I wanted to see if I could root it just so the device works again but I can't access it on my PC.
Can anyone think of a step or process I forgot to try?
My Nexus 7, wont turn on anymore either i charged it , it was very low went down to 11% battery so i turned it off and charged it, saw the battery on the screen and now.. It will not turn on, unit feels very warm when charging. It started to lag a bit , before i turned it off.. its normal software as supplied by nexus. so..> no matter how long i hold the buttons.. its off and screen stays black..
doh....asked for RMA number..only used it for a month
My Nexus 7 32Gb won't turn on either. I've been having since I got it the battery has been showing 0% since I turned it on. Regardless of how much charging I did it never changed. It ran fine and was told it might be to do with calibrating the battery but it then started to have problems turning on. It's gone off and I've tried the various power on options mentioned in this thread and nothing is working.
I guess it means a return to Carphone Warehouse. I had just got it all set-up as well.
I had rooted it and manually upgraded it to 4.2.1. It was running fine bar the 0% battery issue. I did the same thing to my Mum's 16Gb Nexus 7 and no problems at all with that one.

Man, I was just freaking out. Just got the wifi 16 on Monday. Rommed it as soon as I got home. Was using it at my local watering hole, and it suddenly just would not respond. Black screen, yadda yadda.
15 seconds of holding the power button and boom. Google logo, and then SmoothROM's boot ani. *wipes forehead* Never been so happy to see Jessica Nigri's face! lol
Thank You
I had been turning the Nexus on and off for the last couple of days, No "problems".
I tried to turn it on a couple of minutes ago and NOTHING. I even pluged it in and the battery charging icon did not turn on.
I also tried holding the button for 5 seconds but still nothing.
Fix:
I had to held the button for over 15 seconds to get it to turn on.
Thanks!
Similar problem with my nexus 7. Battery charge shows up when i plug it in. If I try to turn it on while its plugged in, i get what looks like static and lines on the screen. When I unplug it, it dies. If I hold the power button down, and plug it in, it will boot normally, and everything seems to work fine, but the battery shows as dead, and as soon as I unplug it, it dies.Just got it, it came with 4.2.1 running on it, it was an open box from Best Buy, and developer options were already enabled on it. Looks like someone tried to root it, f'd it up, and returned it. Guess I'm taking it back and returning it as well. Just a major pain as it's 1.5 hours each way from where I live to the closest best buy and back.
My problem is an easy fix, return it. However, I'd like to know if anyone figures out a fix for this incase it happens in the future.
Thanks.
