If i be true...ubuntu touch is best idea..
Reason behind it is there are already 4.4.2 roms we have...we have experienced many diffrnt roms with latest kitkat taste...
Its time to taste the real Linux-only power with ubuntu...
I donno if someone polls foe other ..but seriously guys...another operationg system with just linux is really cool..
Many may not say yes with what i am saying...
But who are in support and know real meaning what we really need as a new flavor and experience, may consider this please...(and hit thanks too ..)

I think the Linux kernel used in both Ubuntu Touch and Android do not differ that much because they are both ARM-specialized... But yeah Ubuntu Touch is awesome, gesture-based navigation in it will fit beautifully on our 5 inch screen..

Its hell lot of work to compile ubuntu but its rightly said by someone Developers are like Angel.
I would like to share i was building a ROM a week back name "Beanstalk" for our grand but was stuck on bootloop. Everything went right but unfortunately it got stuck. This ROM took me weeks to get basics right then after putting in SD card and flashing, i was like :crying::crying::crying: though i got installed and able to saw a beautiful boot screen of beanstalk
Anyways good luck to DEV who is trying to build ubuntu touch:good:
@DataUnit is it possible to build webOS for our Grand? Lol I know it's a bit obsolete right now and very far-fetched, but webOS has a similar Linux kernel like Android. HP Touchpad, the only webOS tablet before webOS's death was actually flashed with Android during manufacturing process, so I think it is possible to port webOS to Android devices. Even better is that almost all parts of webOS is now open source. :good:

New version of webOS has been developed for Smart TVs and I think it's not for smartphones, but if you think you can port it with compiling the source code.
Since its source is too different than Android and AOSP, it needs a lot of hard work to port it to Grand or any other Android device.
Pocket friendly Ubuntu would be so nice! Hoping one day we get a port on grand!

I'll say one thing, just because it gets ported officially by them doesn't mean it will be any less buggy than the ones already out. In fact in might be a lot more buggy.
There is an official port for my current phone and it is buggier than the unofficial Ports
I'm not trying to be negative, just letting you guys know.

Yesss, Official miui port is nice but an official cm port is the dream, I'd love to see that & enjoy it for a while before upgrading
Anyways of course gonna vote for this too because although personally don't care that much but as I said it would be nice & hopefully will help having more stable roms(be it official or not) and after all we're a community, right?
Cm7 is going official isn't it? I thought that's what freexperias goal was?

Don't you technically need an official cm before you can even get an official miui?
Since miui is based off of cm I thought

Yes. Because as awesome as MIUI is, they do just wait for a stable cm7 for a device then add MIUI to it.
Whatever it is based off, I just really like MIUI'S usability.
There was a windows phone 7 theme and gogmsh, it looked so nice on the phone and when I was forced to go back to stock, I could not stand the ugliness of the keys and theme etc.
Now I'm in cm7, its fast but no where near as good looking as MIUI.

Hey guys!
I'm tired, .... tired of waiting for an ICS port / Offical Update to ICS for my phone!
I've waited and hoped that anyone would do anything, ... but nothing happened. And it don't seems if anything will happen.

I decided to do the work!!! After the "§$%&/()=* Christmas i gonna start. I waited and hoped that someone other does the main work (bootable ICS on i9001), on which I can continue but %&*§ .... noone wanted
So it will be me, doing the stuff. I know its damn much to do, ... but who cares, I gonna do that!!! But U don't need to ask me every day if it works. I think I need 2-3 weeks to have a bootable ROM.
peace out

im sure someone is willing to help. heck, if i know those coding stuff i would not mind to help out. anyway thanks in advance for doing it
No-one hasn't been able to do it since there isn't roms for samsung phones. Only on Nexus or so. Sgs2 will get it later next year.
IF samsung is gonna give sgs+ user's ics it will take time.
Sony put out beta version out but it's mainly to see how it's looking & for developers and therefore not working (no calls, no sms, no wifi...).
Good luck with your project.

Yep, that's my understanding as well. The hardware drivers don't exist, so they would have to be made from scratch. A huge amount of work to get what is . . .yes a dead OS onto our phone. So unless the OP or somebody he knows is planning to take this on as a project, this is kind of a pointless post.
Other than that, more variety on ROMs is always a good thing. If you don't want it, don't flash it. So there is no real "downside" to having WebOS ported over.
Other than the "because we can" aspects why webOS?
I would much prefer a windows phone Rom...
Sent from my HTC Flyer using XDA App
I'm new to here... but this poll really suit me, as I have currently a Desire Z & a Pre 3! I would love to have webOS on Desire Z but I prefer vertical keyboard. Horizontal keyboard is good but a bit too large for rapid typing.
So my answer is: if I don't have Pre 3, Excellent to have webOS on Desire Z. But since I have one already, it's also a good idea for me to have a Android phone, mostly for apps and games.

Well, "Everything is relative", a smart guy once said. So true. and i must admit, maybe i exaggerated a bit by saying "easy", 'cause nothing i've ever seen related to coding seems easy at all. i know nothing about coding, but i do know that if you can make the processor run without modifications, then the rest won't be too hard. After all, it is a SoC . I may be wrong, but i can't help it.
This would be more like Proof-of-Concept in my books...regardless, I'd definitely give it a whirl!
sorry, but i think i puked a little when i read the topic... I was using webos on my touchpad and damn it was more of a scientific demonstration of what it can do.. it's painfully unpolished.
I've never seen webos. Hellz bellz yeah ill ride that donkey for a day. It cannot possibly be any worse than Amazons horriibly kanged android.

It would be interesting to see, but that's definitely a LOT of work.
Let's see that what's we have here? The most problem with porting job is linux kernel and drivers compatible and fully functionals working. We have some working Android kernel 3.x, the most close version compared with official Linux kernel, WebOS is based on Linux kernel also. If developers still interesting on porting it then they can do it a quite easy than the time before kernel 3.x got working.

My limited knowledge of Paranoid Android leads me to ask - why do you want it on the Tf?
Isn't it designed to give a tablet like experience on phones?
As well made as it is, I wasn't overly keen on the whole tiny u.i on my sgs2.
Otherwise I'm not sure what we would be missing out on.
Application-specific DPI settings would make me one happy panda.

Just need to try a couple more things to sort out a couple of bugs...
btw, I'm not a developer, and just started compiling, so it will not be perfect at any stage...

I'm just compiling another build now... will test that and then give out a download link tomorrow...
If there is enough interest, I may create a thread in the development section...
As I said though, it is quite buggy...

It is too late for me though!
My TF101 got run over by a School Bus! But I hope everybody else enjoys it then!
I would love to see this rom on the tf101

Ah, that's a shame... hopefully the school helped towards a new one? Could have got away with homework being on it though and getting an extension...

could be interesting. woud be nice to see if any of our other devs would be interested in helping you to iron out the imperfections and take it forward.
Always nice to have an extra rom to mess with
Quick yes or no ? for you......dock supported?

Yes - dock is supported... Well, at least it was working for me last night... Don't have a large SD card to test on it, but it should work (as i'm using the same device tree as others)...
As stated earlier, this is my first proper build (running a CM10 build on my phone, not released though). It would be nice to get others to help, at the moment, ADB doesn't work, everything I have tested is working, including Paranoid Settings... None of my builds seems to have ADB, so i do need to look into that!
As there seems to be enough interest, I think I will open a thread later - will link to it here though so you can all see it!
nice - look forward to it.:good:
Please make this happen

No chinese smartphone vendor releases their source..only big brands releases their sources...like samsung,sony...it will take some time for gionee to make up their mind..i hop otherwise the E7 is great device..sure it has changed the thought of china device of some ppl atleast me
wht chng ur mind?
bro e7 hs a very imprsv hardware...
bt without devlopers support why we need that?
do u think we will hv a lot developers support for e7?
will gionee release kernel ?
My opinion
Brother, if gionee keeps it secret of kernels. Then how can we develop the custom roms it's having great hardware but poor software, the kit Kat is lot smoother than 4.2.2 everyone wants to have their hands on new versions . on the other hand many cheaper phones than e7 are having 4.4.2. Whose interface is far more better than the stupid amigo in which you can't even arrange the icons according to the name. No home button, laggy ui it's better to go for a small device with kit Kat which has smooth interface cod people rearly use cam and ram for games. I wish to see kit Kat on this device, I Adm planning to get one plus from Dubai by seeking this device
This device is like a Ferrari at the speed of 60 kmph , max speed
so there is no possibility to get kernel from gionee?

It looks grim right now.. And it's quite impossible to build a working kernel without proper sources.
Update: I just contacted the pr of Gionee and he replied with a far better attitude than I had expected! He was more than willing to help. He said he will talk to the China team and get back to me. Well, considering the little email exchange that we had, I am pretty sure we have good stuff coming..

i got an email from their customer support .
saying according to their company policy they dont release kernel sources for more information they can call this number between 9 am to 7 pm.
+91 8800348555 i didn't call since im clueless incase they get technical.
Kinda disappointed in buying this phone looking at the hardware i thought reglardless of companies ****ty update policy i would atleast get custom roms which seems not tbe be the case any more.
When i can source a O+O im jumping ship and dumping this piece of ****.

just to make it a little clear here, it not for them to decide to whether to release the kernel source or not. It comes under the GPL license and they MUST release it. and I am pretty sure whoever you talked to simply has no idea what kernel is or what we are talking about. its quite hopeless to talk to them. they are like pre configured answering machines. they know nothing, they understand nothing, they just have standard replies.
I know its mandatory for them to release.
But they don't do it not sure who can enforce it, in all honestly i have no idea why google give licences to ****ty oem's who dont follow the 18 month update policy and not release kernel sources.

Exactly. Accept it. I thrice asked the same question - Are you a bot? if no, try to retype the characters shown and then typed some random characters and everytime they gave the same reply. That's kaputt!
