Random Reboots and Factory Reset - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, So I am running Cyanogenmod on my VS-980 and there are 2 problems that I face but may be universal to all roms:
1. The Random reboots are getting more and more common so now they are up to about 7-10 times a day. Any fix? Or at least workaround?
2. Factory resets and cache clearing take SO long. It is around 10-20 minutes each. I heard it's due to the massive LG rom? Is there a way to make it normal like any other device (few seconds)?
Thanks

Try flashing cyanfox (CM11 based) and paeks kernel. Been running both for about 2 weeks....no reboots no sods no lockups. Completely stable.

I'm running the 1/04 build. Haven't tried the newest one yet, but I can say I'm totally happy with cyanfox. Best, stable AOSP ROM I've flashed yet.

Razr M keeps rebooting

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why my phone keeps rebooting. I've tried stock 4.1.1, stock 4.2.2, pacman, carbon, CM10.1, aokp and they all seem to reboot. The reboots are pretty random but I can pretty much always get it to reboot within 30 minutes if I'm playing some sort of audio or video. Also when I turn my screen on (from sleep) it flashes this weird screen (see attached image).

could be a ROM/Kernel pairing. have you tried wiping system/data/internal storage - reboot recovery, then flashing a new ROM?
the static screen is common on custom 4.2.2 ROMs, but it's usually a quick flash. I don't get any random reboots though.
I've tried many different rom's along with the Vanquishkitties kernal but still random reboots
I noticed my phone acting weird, specifically it would not play any audio, I noticed this because when I was in the dialer it was going really slow. Then I tried to play some notifications and none worked. I rebooted my phone and all seemed ok, I've attached two logs the first one being while audio would not work and the second after the reboot. I'm not really sure what to look for in the logs but thought someone here might.
This might be something...
E/AudioStreamOutALSA( 300): pcm_write returned error -5, trying to recover
Or this, just a warning though...
W/AudioTrack( 692): obtainBuffer timed out (is the CPU pegged?) 0x63d72108 name=0x6user=00001000, server=00000000

Just noticed that when in the dialer and the phone starts working very slow, if I turn the sound all the way off, the phone becomes responsive
two more logcats for anyone interested in helping this time one is when trying to use google voice actions, I actually get an error message that says can't open microphone and the other is when someone called me and I did not have any ringtone but I answered and I could not hear them and they could not hear me, shortly after my phone rebooted, I did not catch the reboot in the logcat.
Also when it reboots it doesn't reboot all the way it boots to the boot logo screen and then hangs and I have to hold all three buttons until it reboots again, is there a way to get it to just reboot on its own?
After the reboot everything seems to be fine until I experience the same issues again
Which ROM are you on right now? That sounds like a kernel level issue

I'm currently using CARBON-JB-NIGHTLY-20130712-0020 and kernel [email protected]
but i've experienced this issue with every ROM / kernel i've tried even the stock ones.

Has your issue been resolved? I am almost facing the same issues of random rebooting with my phone and was searching for a solution....
Did anyone ever find a fix for this?
Stock rooted 4.1.2 with some frozen bloatware and a GSM-specific build.prop file. I get several random reboots per day. Has upgrading to KK fixed this for anyone?

[Q] random reboots

hi.
In the last week, I have been experiencing random reboots. It usually happens when the phone is in sleep mode, it just restarts by itself.
When this first happened, I was using Vanir ROM with the AK kernel. (there I got green screen instead of a reboot). So I installed the purified kernel, thinking it might be kernel-related. It did not help.
Then I tried Purity ROM (after a full wipe) with purified kernel. Still the same reboots.
Tried Semaphore kernel, the same.
I did a dirty flash of the ROM before switching between kernels.
So I am completely lost here. I go on a vacation tomorrow, and I really hope to fix the problem before I go. So I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Try flashing a official image via any Nexus toolkits and then install the rom you want.. bakcup your data and also make a nandroid backup..:good:
Hi
I did that, flashed stock ROM and did a full wipe including the user storage.
Then I flashed Purity ROM and Semaphore kernel.
I still experience the reboots, a few times a day usually...
Should I try a different ROM or kernel?

I'm using Purity ROM for some time now and it's just awesome.
Kernel is purified kernel and as i read many people writing about semaphore having better battery live with purity, i tried it.
just for half a day, because it randomly rebooted twice in this time.
first time while talking with someone, second one while browsing the internet.
any idea why? for now i'm back to purified, but i just get normal battery life. maybe 2hrs screen on.

[Q] KitKat to Lollipop - the phone is unusable (huge battery drain and sys errors)

Hi everyone,
Until recently I've been using a KitKat based ROM and I was pretty OK with how my NOTE 3 SM-9005 was performing. However, a few days ago I decided to try a Lollipop based ROM and the problems started. I had similar problems with 3 different ROMs with great reviews. My battery went, for example, from 100% to 15% in ONE HOUR while streaming from YouTube. It never did that before. Also, It sometimes gives a "system stopped responding" error or something like that (it's like the equivalent of explorer.exe crashing on Windows) and after a few seconds it starts working again. Other system apps crash as well every now and then and sometimes the phone just decides to restart by itself.
I initially used Philz recovery and after the initial errors I switched to TWRP and started from scratch. I completely wiped my system internal space before flashing and, of course, I wiped dalvik cache and cache before and after flashing the ROM. I only used recommended gapps. Also, I did not restore any system apps. I started from scratch after the installation and the problem is the same.
To be more exact, I tries flashing so far the following ROMS, experiencing more or less the same problems on each:
temasek's UNOFFICIAL CM12.1
AryaMod V5.4 TW Lollipop Official BOB6
BlissPop 3.5 Unofficial
I also tried the Dirty Unicorns v9.4 ROM from the Original Android Development section but this one went on a reboot loop initially after the first restart so it never really even installed.
At this point I believe I might have done something that I should't have, but it seems strange because this is not the first time I am flashing a new ROM and I never had problems in the past. Also, my NOTE 3 SM-9500 did not have any problem on my previous KitKat ROM. Did I miss something? Should I have used another kernel? If I understood correctly, the ROMs come with a recommended kernel already. If this is not the problem, what could it be? Should I have done any additional thing before flashing a Lolipop ROM after using a KitKat ROM?
I now installed an app for trying to find out what exactly drains my battery but this is not the only problem. The system itself is really unstable.
I would really appreciate some help, suggestions, or opinions. I really don't know what else should I be doing at this point.
Thanks a lot!
Apparently is the media server eating all that battery (currently 68%).
I will format the SD card hoping this fixes the issue.....but could this have something to do with the system error and, sometimes, restarts?
Well I really don't know what to say! A lot of people report battery problems on 5.0 just because they didn't wipe the phone while coming from KK! But you did, so that's no go. Battery life on LP is much better than KK for me, at least 20% better if not more. And I didn't face any system crashing issues either! Don't really know what's going on with you mate.
Someone suggested that maybe I shoud update the bootloader and modem to a Lollipop version but I really couldn't find any info on how to do that.
Formatting the SD card just slightly reduced the battery drain. The phone is still discharging like crazy. Any suggestion on how to update the bootloader and modem?
Thank you.

How to fix these reboots?

Hello..
I'm so tired of theese reboots now and i dont know what to do about it.
I have soon tried every rom and firmware on this forum and its all the same.
It will often work for like 24hrs and then it starts again, if im using spotify or another music player ill get the restarts more frequent.
Sometimes it will work for a day but often it can be up to 5 times /hrs.
I just installed aicp and thought it was fixed... but just as i writes it has restarted 2 times... is this a hardware problem or is it software? And how do i find whats causing?

Mate....please describe:
1. Used ROM/kernel/OC/related
2. XPOSED?
3. Used Apps
Have you tried clean flashing, without installing single app for 48 hours? Does it happen then?

I´ve got the same problem as you do... I tried like every rom which is available for the OP2. Hopefully anybody out there knows a solution :/
Did your get these spontaneous reboots from the beginning of did they start after you played around with other ROMs than Oxygen? If the started after, perhaps some of the system partitions has been partly damaged or the files in them, if so try restoring phone back to basic using the known Qualcomm OxygenOS brick restore method which resets all partitions back to factory ones.

If anything else fails..... Backup all your apps. Backup your intenal SDCARD to a pc and do a factory reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/general/guide-official-stock-reset-to-oos-2-2-0-t3290707
Takes a bit of time, but it might be worth.
Did you try to take a logcat of the reboot issue?

Nexus 7 2012 3G freezes

Hi all,
Sorry for one more thread. But I have no idea how to fix my Nexus. It freezes from time to time, no reaction at all, closing of application can take one minute or so. However it can work properly ~15..30 mins. And then freeze again.
I'e done many times:
1. clean flash of stock 4.4.4, 5.0.2, 5.1 with fastboot
2. cache and dalvik wipe from TWRP
3. fstrim
Maybe I don't know other tricks how to fix or at least to understand what's happen? Thanks in advance.
Depends much on the applications you are using and how much memory they are allocating. Having many applications running in background and synching, using Google Chrome for browsing, etc. does not work well on this old device ... nevertheless the new ROMs based on Android 7.x provide a better performance, but also there you will reach a point where the system is not as responsive as you probably wish.
No many applications. Just stock ROM, Chrome with 3-4 tabs.
