good to hear that, dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program dalvik. Dalvik is a java based virtual machine that is the bases for running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension). In order to make access times faster (because there's not JIT (just in time) compiler installed by default), the dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program its similar to windows prefetch. it does not change any app data or phone numbers just optimizes it to run faster the next time u start your phone...

how many more of these threads are we going to have??!!!
IMHO we should clean up the forum and have one thread for "what rom do you like?"
Anyways.... I really like DarchLegend. Fast, responsive, and saves a bunny's life if you use it! It kills a bunny if you don't.

I do really like damagecontrol, but... it doesn't work. In logcat it always says "exit zygote because system server (100) has terminated" and bootloops.

Honestly, if you're getting that in logcat or ddms then you messed up the install somehow.

I don't see how I could have messed it up. Data wipe, dalvik wipe, and flash-reboot.

i was thinking the same thing. it all depends on you which is the best rom if you are here then it must mean youve rooted your phone so go and experiment but make sure you read the instructions given. Try them all is my opinion. Enjoy!
flash them all...then you decide which ones you'd like to use the most..

Android uses a system similar to Java. Where the code for apps is portable between different platforms. Like phones and computers with entirely different CPUs. It accomplishes that using a virtual machine(computer) called Dalvik. All of Android's apps you use come in a format called Dalvik-Bytecode the VM (virtual machine) can interpret and execute. In order to do this more efficiently, dalvik caches, or saves a copy of the bytecode somewhere for easy access and faster loading of the app for future use. Sometimes when switching roms, the cached version of an app is incompatible with the newly flashed version and causes errors forcing them to close. Wiping the cache can in certain cases correct force close issues.
Hope that helps.

yeah factory/data, I wipe all 3 before flashing a ROM, works everytime my problem is restoring the apps using a backup app (titanium, mybackup pro, etc.) but I think I have figured that out too with the UID mistmatch but don't have the sanity to do it again manually if it doesn't work
problem I was having after I restored the apps, and rebooted FC's out the ass and freezes, didn't matter what ROM, Darch, DC, Flipz, etc.

For 1.5, I've taken quite a liking to Pancake with the theme "Darkstar" installed.
For 2.1, I like DamageControl because it's quite fast and has 2.1 features.
Hi Guys I need some help today my streak stop installing the app from the Market.Today I try to Update two app from the Market looks like the app is downloading but don't install My Streak is using froyo 319 and have Market v.2.3.4. some help guys
Troubleshooting the Android market
Try clearing the cache for the market, and if that does not work clear the data.
Had the same problem (froyo 318) with more recent apps that are bigger then 20MB. Fast forward provided above troubleshooting to "Unmount SD Card". That worked for me.

If you have this problem and are trying to install FROM your SD card (not the market), you can use ADB
adb install [filename thats saved inside your adb directory].apk
problem solved!

I was having this problem with angry birds. Unmounting the SD card while installing and updating it works for me. Just super annoying when I have to do it.
Ye the unmounting of sd card work great as well

I notice this happens alot of custom roms other than stock deodexed roms.
I started reinstalling my apps one by one because TB was only resintalling half my apps. So after reinstalling about 30 or so apps, the market stops installing apps for me. I'm currently running "WORKING NETFLIX! NEW! [AllianceROM][r7.2] HybriD 3D[Sense 2.1 OTA][Themed]"but this has happened on Calkuns roms too. Its even happening with updates to apps that are already installed. So I uninstalled the apps and tried installing them as fresh apps and that still doesn't work.
Any ideas?
Clear your market data and cache. For whatever reason when you install a bunch of apps from the market at the same time this happens.
If the above doesn't work you may have to wipe your .android_secure folder on your SD card as well.

Future reference, to clear the data and cache of any app, go into settings>applications>manage applications>app your trying to clear data for.
I know it has probably already been said but I couldn't find it.....
I back up in xrecovery weekly, what else should I be doing, wipe battery stats? If so should the battery be charged? Fix permissions? Wipe cache partition? Dalvik cache? Anything else?
Any advice appreciated.
SE X10i 2.3.3 CM7.0.3
When you say backup, is that all you do? Do u just make a backup of current rom? If so you do not need to do anything else like wiping battery stats and dalvik cache.
These things only need doing if you are flashing new roms or occasionally needs doing when manually installing/updating some system apps like for example when I installed new market last week.

Thanks, yea I just back up the current rom.
I too installed the new market, but there is no apparent ill effect.
Should I just leave it alone?

I know the feeling believe me!!!
But sometimes, it doesn't do any good (I learned the hard way).
For example, let's take wiping Dalvik Cache:
Dalvik Cache is the cache area for the program Dalvik.
Dalvik is a JVM (Java Virtual Machine) that is used as base for running your apps (the ones that have the .apk extension).
In order to make access times faster, Dalvik doing an optimization of the running applications, resulting in the Dalvik Cache.
Think of it as similar to the files prefetch in Windows.
So, every time you clean it, you are causing your phone to re-generate it from scratch, thus making it slower for a while and stressing its CPU.
There are of course cases when it needs to be cleaned, but in those cases it's usually pretty obvious (like when you replace a system app and you get FCs).
I hope I helped you a bit!
Open root explorer. Go to /data/dalvik cache. Select all files in the folder and delete them. Reboot immediately. Stuff will get very unstable till you do.
This will re optimize the system after all the changes you have been making.

Similar to this, is thr a way to clear cache partition without recovery mode?
What is the purpose of doing this? Will this clear my settings or default programs?
Adversely, I have one default program I would like to clear but it does not show up on the default app list... can I clear this one manually? Namely I want to switch back to using Svoice vs Google Voice and no matter what i do I can switch it back. Turning on Svoice under settings does nothing.
Thanks for the great info
Thanks for the helpful tidbit.
question here
if i clear my dalvik cache( with not the intentions to install new rom...just cleaning junks) will my personal data be saved?
why just don't use one of app : https://play.google.com/store/searc...sp=CAFiDQoLY2xlYXIgY2FjaGV6AhgAigECCAE=&hl=en
So cache partition stores all these settings which can be deleted from settings->apps? or it's maybe something like temp in Windows?
Whether will be deleted apps settings after wiping cache partition?
edit. I found.
None settings deleted. It just support's faster lauching of most used apps. After wiping, few lauching of the app restores previous condition of executing. May fix errors during opening some app, due to some overloads of this memory.
Because dalvik cache stores fragments of compiled code of an installed apps, and can be just deleted for restore some performance of system (it is restored after reboot).
Especially these wiping these two - dalvik and partition cache, is sometimes practised after installing lots of apps, to improve performance, maybe some errors.
Correct me if something's wrong.
