Using home button to wake Google Now - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to let me: long press home button to wake Google Now (while screen is off)?
I am running stock 4.3. No intention of custom room at the moment.

Anyone?

Are you rooted. I believe Wanam Xposed has an option for that In the system section of the app. You need Xposed framework for Wanam though and you have to be rooted to use Xposed.

You can get an app called home2shortcut from the playstore and set your home button as any app you would like.

How to: Disable home key/wake activation

I take no credit for this. This is a carryover from Note 2 and I got the info from some thread in one of the forums. This worked on my Sprint N3 and I just tried it on my ATT N3 and it works also.
Sometimes I keep my phone in my back pocket and I do not want the screen to wake if the home button is inadvertently pressed. This method prevents the home key from waking the screen. Only the side key will wake the screen when applied.
Root is required, remount /system as r/w.
1) Go to system/usr/keylayout and edit "gpio-keys.kl".
2) Scroll down, look for the "key 172 HOME WAKE" line.
3) Remove "WAKE" from the line and save, reboot.
YMMV, do at own risk, make file backup, etc.
Cheers
Works on my European N3.
Only thing is, the phone now vibrates every time I press the home button with the screen on. Not sure yet if I like this.
You could just disable it in the wanam xposed app. Once you set it up, all you have to do is check a box.

As I understand, wanam is an xposed modul. It's recommended to make a nandroid backup before installing the framework and I only used CF-Autoroot so far. So I don't have a custom recovery on yet. And from what I read, if you have a backup, you cannot restore it without bricking your phone yet. I already miss the "use volume rocker to skip tracks hack" in modaco, but I don't install a Custom recovery without knowing for sure that I can restore a backup just yet. The phone is out for about 2 weeks, I was lucky to already get one and I already lost my warranty due to rooting. So I don't want to brick it. But thanks for the hint. I'll remember it and use it as soon as restoring is safe. :good:

Any way to change delay when holding home for recent apps??

Hi, im running xnote v8 and was wondering, if there is anything available wether as an add on, wanam module or root app or an in rom tweak that can shorten the delay between when holding the home button to bring up the recent apps as I find it too long even on stock touchwiz.

Also interested.
Have the same thing here

I use xposed framework, and the module xposed aditions, you need root for this
When ever I tap on xposed aditions, it judt gives me a little prompt saying "This module does not provide a user interface" the module was already installed with the ROM I believe, tried Uninstalling it then reinstalling it but it doesnt uninstall although it says it does. And updating it doesnt work either as it saying "an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is installed.
Any advice?

the reason there is delay when you press home button, is because system is waiting to see if it's double press to bring up voice command screen. There is a menu where you can disable double click and that should make wait much shorter, but I can't remember which menu is it ATM. This works on stock, I can't help with custom software.
Look in the Play store for Switcher. You can swipe from the bottom, left or right side of screen to open recent apps.

just install nova launcher or go launcher ex and create a gesture, one or two fingers sliding up to show the recent apps. a lot more convenient and quicker to access recents.

This seems like a much better option than trying to map a double click of the home key. Here's to hoping it works!

[Q] Overriding Buttons without 3Minit

3Minit was pretty great. But development stopped and it was pulled from the app store. And I have neither the framework nor the corresponding settings app backed up anywhere to re-install. Honestly, cosmetics aren't a big deal to me, so I can perfectly well get by without most of those functions. But the one thing I care about is also the one thing I haven't found a fitting alternative for: changing button behavior.
To be clear, here is what I used to have my device doing:
Menu Long Press - Launch Colornote
Home Long Press - Screenshot
Home Double Tap - Recent Apps
Back Long Press - Kill app
Now, I know that there are xposed modules like wanamp that will let me restore my old settings to the back and home button. But I haven't found a solution that lets me alter what the menu button does too. I want to be able to launch Color Note from anywhere with a long press once again.
Solutions?
I also just formatted my hdd and have no backup of the framework..
I hope gary is coming back soon.
could anyone deliver a downloadlink in the meantime?
I would like to use the goldeneye 4.3 rom wit my I9505

[Q] Menu button...

Hi all
Is there a "fix" for the recent app button to re-map it to menu button on the first touch as it has always been in all previous models?
Thanks

What do you mean the hardware button will be safer?? With 2gb ram what s the point to check open apps? It should be used the opposite way...long press to get to task manager, normal touch to get to menu...I ll wait for the other member to show up with the solution hopefully

Well, actually there is a solution since you are rooted: install Xposed framework, then install/check Gravity Box module within the framework menu. Go into the Gravity Box and assign the buttons to your liking, restart the device and voila!

You made me smile again...how could I miss normal samsung function...I''m on Galaxy phones since I9000 (s1)...this recent app button made my life harder on the s5...
Thanks again and again!
For the rest here just a hint...it needs a reboot after framework installation and after Gravity box installation...
Thanks again my friend!
You are very welcome, but you could activate the menu function just holding the recent apps button for 0.3 secs without using any additional apps. Anyways, glad i could help

I'm relatively new to Nova, is there a way to swap the menu and recent apps with Nova. I can't seem access the menu function with this launcher.
swap without this mod or swap with this mod u mean?
Sorry I meant without the MOD, since I'm not rooted. I thought nova might have this, but I can't seem to find it.
to swap it no way thats y I made the mod most things you have to root.

Thanks for making this! I still haven't gotten used to tap-recents, long press-menu
but a few questions
1. For stock Touchwiz is it tap - menu and long press-recents yeah?
2. Could I just back up the Generic.kl file in the device and take the one from the zip to replace? And vice versa if I wanted to go back to just replace it with the old one?
3. Also can you/I just replace the generic.kl file in the zip with the one on the device to make a flashable version to go back? Or is making flashable zips not as easy or simple as I thought? Lol

touchwiz i dont think they have a way to assign long button behavior so dont think long press would bring recents and second yes if u replace after u flash my zip and want the old way back yes switch the generic file and u should be back or u can backup rom and restore.

Wait so the mod only makes the button the menu button a single option button? If so how do you get to the recent apps?

I did that for a while but the downside is you have to be already on the homescreen for it to work... At least on beta 4. I looked into doing this mod myself but just decided on Gravitybox vs Wanam. You get way more options for customization. But this is cool for those with issues with xposed or who prefer Wanam module Good work!
I used Gravitybox to remap the recents button to short press=menu, long press=recents. Needs root & Xposed obvs, but it works. I also have long press back to launch google.
Weird thing though- I can't find any options for button remapping in Nova. I can set the home button to whatever I want but no others.

Wow, I literally do not have that option at all. Then again, I'm on the latest beta so maybe they removed it for some reason...?
