Im not sure if i choose right section but:
I bought Samsung micro sdhc class 10 64gb and read speed is ok, but write speed is so slow. On cover was printed write: 7 mb/s but i getting just 1-2 mb/s sometimes 4.75 for second.
If i downloading with steam to that its downloading few secs and then steam say disc busy and origin downloading max 300kb/s (normally to hdd downloading 2,5mb/s)
Any ideas what i can do for better speed?
I'd try to re format the card and pay close attention to all of the options before finalizing the format.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Tried... NTSF/exFAT still incredibly slow.
can you state clearly what devices you used with your SD card ?
SD card
Have you ever used the SD card via the reader on your laptop/desktop before?

Yes its same speed. And i used only my PC and TabletPC (ASUS T-100).

Happy new year guys. I bought two microsd cards. One is a PQI 2GB microSD card for flashing. Another one is a Ridata 4GB microSDHC card for everyday stuff, with a speed class of 6. I don't know the class of the PQI.
I noticed that when copying files from the pc, or when just copy pasting files within the Hermes, the writing speed is very slow. For both cards, the PQI and Ritek, they're around 400 kB/s to 600 kB/s. I used both WM5torage and activesync and they're both this slow. Even for a class 2 card, such speeds are slow. I RMAed the PQI one due to CRC errors when copying. The Ridata has no errors but is still very slow.
I searched the forums and installed the SD tuneup.cab file, restarted the Hermes and its still the same writing speed, around 400kB/s. I used the microsdhc in a card reader in a pc and it writes at 6 MB/s. What could be wrong, why such a writing speed difference? I have red about posters with writing speeds as much as 9MB/s with their phones in the Hermes accessories forum.
The specs of my phone are:
Cingular 8525 Hermes 100
PDACornerPro.V27
Radio 1.56
HardSPL v7
Ridata 4GB microsdhc class 6
Any suggestions, comments? Thanks.
Mate, join the club... I don't really believe that when connected through activesync you will get very fast speed copying. Its ALWAYS been slow as a stoned snail when copying through the phone. sd card readers move like lightening in comparison.
Don't believe you're gonna find an answer to the slow speed problem.
Cheers...
You mean from the very start till now, the Hermes really writes slowly? But some people on the Hermes accessories forum have write speeds up to 9MB/s. Maybe there is a fix/tweak somewhere I don't know about and still not able to find through searching? Any ideas? Thanks.
I've never found it. Most threads I've read about this issue are lamenting the fact it has such a slow read/write speed when connected through activesync.
I generally backup and transfer files through an sd card reader.
Cheers...
Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'll just use a card reader to save time. But those folks at "What brand SDHC card is everyone using?" thread have speeds up to 9MB/s when writing. Aren't they using the Hermes? Or they're using a card reader?
Probably a card reader. They may also be talking about when transfering files to/from sd card when using the Hermes's own file manager as that is fairly fast. I use a class 6 8Gb card for reading Tomtom maps and there is no lag, had a bit previously with a 2Gb card.
I believe the hangup is in microsoft's active sync program. No0t sure about those using vista's own transfer app.
Cheers...

Actually, Activesync can be fast.
Activesync on an XP machine copying to my Herm100 is quite slow, a card reader is much better, but the same Activesync copied to the latest HTC (don't know the model) slidey keyboard phone's internal memory in comparatively lightening speed.
So is there different configurations or drivers for the USB connections on our phones and/or ROMS ?

As you said

Maybe something in the hardware of the newer phones because if it was software, since the chefs use the ported os of the later devices, we should also be getting better speeds if we had updated the OS. I'm currently using build 21109 and I haven't noticed a speed increases...
Thanks for the replies guys. I think its really the hardware of the Hermes that is slow. I bought a cheap $1 card reader and its very fast compared to the Hermes' own card reader. I used Sisoftware sandra to bench my cards. My RMAed 2GB PQI card writes at around 6.5 MB/s while my Ridata 4GB card writes at around 5.4 MB/s. What a difference a dollar makes
Hi.
There's one question which has not been asked yet (I think) and that's about USB Speed.
When I connect my HTC Touch Cruise to the PC and start a file transfer I get speeds around 250kb/s. What about the new Leo? Is there any improvement?
when syncing mp3s with wmp I get around 2-3MB/s but I haven't tried large files yet. using the included 2gb card of course!
With an A-Data MicroSDHC 8GB class 6, transferring a 680MB file I'm at full speed.
I mean that I'm getting 5-6MB/s!
The transfer speed of the HD2 is a joke when compared to the USB 2.0 specs and the extremely low transfer speeds does not have anything to do with the cards used.
There is a big difference in the speed of ANY card when used with hd2 compared to a card reader. And the truly limiting factor is only the hd2.
When i'm in "disk drive" (not activesync) mode the write transfer speed to the sd card is only about 1.8 MB/s which i think extremely slow. The read speed is only ~3.5 MB/s.
I've tried that with 2 different cards, both 2 GB sandisk.
When i plug them into my PC or notebook using an USB-adapter i have the write speed ~5.5 - 6 MB/s and read is ~ 8-9 MB/s.

So the speed is about 3x higher in any card reader.
Take alook at the following thread:

Don't forget this is going through activesync, which is a protocol that really isn't meant for large file transfers. And that previous phones were only doing a couple hundred kB/s.
Use Disk drive mode when transferring big files. Hits 5MB/s.

OK then, but in that case you're off-topic as the thread was about activesync
Anyway, I can't duplicate that. In disk drive mode I have 4.5MB/s writes and 6.5MB/s reads, similar to what someone else mentioned earlier. With a 8GB class 6 Sandisk card.

Yup, same here; I got fast speeds when not in Activesync and applied tweaks to my Win 7.
It is also notable that unless tweaked, Win Vista and Win 7 copy files poorly (even between 2 different physical hard drives!) so compounded with Activesync, Windows may be contributory factor to the OP's problem.
just ordered my HD2 from Vodafone uk
and was going to put my Sandisk 8Gb Ultra Class 6 card from my HD1 into it.
but just found that my card is very slow.
tried my card in another HTC HD and takes ages to play music
but his card works great with no problem
so what is the best card to use???
which class?
and on the htc web site it says micro sd 2.0 what's that???
thx all
I think a Class 6 Card on the HD2 should be fast enough for it...
A card with 'Class 2' spec is similar to a card with a 'SD 2.0' spec
Is your card an original SanDisk card? Try backing up your files, then
reformat the card and see how it goes.
On my HD, a Class 2, and a Class 6 card (both Sandisk) works fine, so it should
be the same for your HD2 (tried a friend's while waiting for mine).

Format the card on the phone on which you intend to use it, it's best not to use a PC for this.

If the card specs are as above, the real questions to ask is what player are you using? and what size is the music library. Because if the first answer is Coreplayer, and the second is over 6Gb; then i would suggest you check the settings and disable the 'enable Library' settings
just got my 8gb transcend class 6 card and formatted it with my phone and put my data back on it. is there a benchmark tool to test it's speed?
and somehow rsshub didn't show my channels after I changed the card, I copied the data from the old card but rsshub seems to be back to factory settings, why?
I've got a 16GB Class 2 MicroSD here.
If I have that thing full of music is it going to **** up the HD2s music player?
Don't have my phone yet so cant test it.
just tested my Transcend 8GB microSDHC Class 6 card with SKTools Lite and it says 2MB/s write and 8MB/s read. that's kind of slow isn't it?
The SD association state "the minimum data transfer speeds for both SD/SDHC memory cards and SD/SDHC host products. This enhancement is easily recognized by three levels of Speed Class, class 2, 4 and 6. Speed Class 2 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 2 mega bytes per second (MB/s), Speed Class 4 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 4 MB/s and Speed Class 6 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 6 MB/s." as to whether a read spead of 8MB/s equates to a transfer speed or not I'll let you find out yourself..
Just wait for SanDisk to release their 32GB microSD.
I will stay on my 8GB of my Kaiser till than...
anyone know when sandisk will release the 32GB ?

yeah but now is DECEMBER and the card not released yet !
I am using a Sandisk 16GB Class 2 : Works perfectly well
Also using a Generic (play.com) class 2 16GB and it works a treat. I watch xvid encoded TV shows and movies from it using Coreplayer and it works great.

I have a Sandisk 16GB Class 2 MicroSD card in my HTC HD2. Tried 350 songs stored on my memory card, and while in the Music Tab waiting for the library to be updated, HTC Sense/TouchFlo restarts itself over and over again. I don't think the Music Player in HTC Sense is that great.
I'm using Conduits Pocket Player for music and it works great. Just disable the Music Tab and HTC Sense should not crash if you accidently select that tab.
Using a 1.43 ROM by the way.
every time I connect my hd2 to my computer and after disconnecting it I can't access any of my music via the music player. it just does nothing, the library is empty and when I switch to landscape mode it says "no music found".
the only way to get it working is to reset.but that can't be it, what's wrong here?
I get the same - if I connect via USB as a mass storage device and then disconnect, I can't access my music library any more. Sometimes even a soft reset doesn't bring it back. Its really annoying! Best to use activesync I suppose but I use Linux quite a bit and it isn't an option.
No Memory Card access after a sync
I have the same problem - but I use Active Sync. I have only just figured out that the sync with my PC has been causing the problem.
Here is what has been happening.
If I DON'T sync with my PC - I can go for weeks with no resets and full access to all data and apps on my Micro SD.
As soon as I sync (via Active Sync - under XP) - the next time I want to run an app from my Micro SD - the HTC tells me it can't find it. My workaround has been to pull the cover off and eject then re-insert the SD (solves it 100% of the time) ... but I would love to know what is required to prevent this problem.
To test the above - I have just gone two weeks without the problem occurring even once (I was away and did not use active sync at all ... although I did use a laptop daily with the HTC connected ... but only as an internet sharing device NOT in any kind of sync mode). Now that I am back home - the first sync has resulted in the same of problem re-occurring.
Has anyone found the cause of this??
Cheers,
Scott
Happy New Year
I'm new to the site after just upgrading to the HTC HD2. Great site for a source of info.
I had a similar problem after transferring the files to the phone. Sometimes the files would show after transfer sometimes not. When I updated libary in the media player I was able to view all the files. I hope this helps, if you haven't tried already.
I'm also waiting for the 32GB card, but unable to find any info regarding the release date. Any news?
i bought this new card and was happy that i have a fast card now and that the transferring data with usb connection would be faster, but it is not.
The writing speed is between 3-5 MB/s, not better then my old Sandisk 16gb class2 card.
I have aMAGLDR v1.13 with CWM v.5.0.2.7.
I use the usb mount from CWM and transfer data through it, but it is really a disappointment. I format the card through different ways, all without any success.
On the my computer the card is not faster with FAT32 (with the micro sd adapter), when i format the card to NTFS it is really fast, but i can not use it on my phone with NTFS. Is Fat32 the problem here?
Does someone have the same card and could approve this problems or am i the only one?
thanks in advance /masteroe
try this..
get into android and see if this app works...it will increase the cache...you should see difference..
thanks, i tried this already without any success.
it seems that the problem is not this value. In the CWM this value is not interesting at all.
As i told you on Windows i have same performance issues with FAT32....

it is not from the bay it is a original card (i hope) from amazon.
Class 10 only assures you of 10MB/S on sequential write, so if the card has been written to a few times there could be some drop due to fragmentation. Also, there are various overheads to consider, moving the data about, issuing the write command to each block, wait for a confirmed write response, blahblah.
Here
http://www.smxrtos.com/articles/whiteppr/flashperformance.htm
Is a (very) technical explanation, which rather happily (or not) examines a 10MB/S raw write speed SD as an example (scroll way down) and calculates an actual write speed at 5MB/S.

thanks for your information, but i think there is an other problem, my class 2 card is faster as it seems . I'm copying 700 MB with 1,5MB at the moment, that is really frustrating....
hehe yea i know what you mean, mine always runs far slower than it probably should too, one point some meg/s, for both my class 2 and a class 6, never any faster, either through cwm, android usb mass storage, or my card reader. (Lots of built in card readers are just usb readers mounted to internal usb headers, and are often only usb1, which doesn't help, , usb has a lot of overhead, lots of info regarding usb overhead here http://www.smxrtos.com/articles/usb_art/usbperf.htm (if a little old))
i will give back the card. This card does not make sense with HTC HD2..
Thread can be closed ! Thanks anyway ..
my link rate on the phone is 525Mbit/s and my computer is at 1Gbit/s and for some reason im transferring from my computer to my phones Memory card which is a sandisk 128gb and im only getting around 1-3 MB/s write speed, i don't get it shouldn't the sd card be rated for higher? or is it the chip inside my note 4 that bottlenecks the sd card? im using Es media to transfer the files. And no it's not small files it was around 800MB
Write speed to your SD card (external storage) from your pc to your device is slower than transferring the file directly from your pc to your devices' internal storage.

I'm not quite sure about that. But I think one of the reasons is the SD card itself. Try to use a microSD adapter, plug it in your PC and transfer a file to it. Is it a lot faster that way?
yeah i can get like 12 MB/s
