Hi all,
I recently updated my ClockworkMod rooted phone to KitKat 4.? (whatever the latest auto-update release is). It seemed to go well until it asked me if I want to restore root (cannot be undone!!!) and I said YES. Now my phone gets stuck on the boot screen (animated colored circles).
I can still connect with adb and my sdcard looks good (whew) but I cannot use my phone. Can anyone recommend a fix?
Thanks in advance,
Barry

Full wipe and flash TWRP.
Or if you like, flash twrp and see if that alone will help, but most times the two is usually needed. However with the way things are, ymmv!

I will full wipe as a last resort only.

Darn, forgot to ask you if you are able to get into recovery? If so you might be able to backup everything before you flash the new recovery. My bad! :banghead:

No issues. Use adb reboot bootloader to reboot into fastboot mode. Flash the factory image, except userdata.img, you won't lose any apps or SD card contents, no wipe necessary. If you don't know how, I'll post a link to a guide.
Or just use some toolkit like Wug's and do everything from pc through simple menus.
Unleashed by my Nexus 4
just do a full flash via fastboot...
and flash data ...n roms too

Hi guys,
So just received my Nexus 7, the device is rooted and i'm trying to flash clockworkmod to the device.
So far, i've tried both of the toolkits in the developement section, ROM Manager and also flashing the recovery through ADB with the images in the development section too...
With some of them, after selecting recovery from the bootloader, it just stays on the "Google" logo, on other, it just boots up.
The device has no issue's booting, it's just Clockwork that won't boot.
Any ideas please?
Thanks.

Have you rebooted into recovery after flashing and made it perminent? Otherwise the stock recovery will get flashed back (immediately)..
http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-7-root-unlock-bootloader-clockworkmod-recovery-cwm-100890/
Usually I temp boot CWM, but today I flashed it on both my GNex & Nexus7. Can easily go back to stock recovery if required...
Thanks for the link mate, hadn't seen that one before and indeed, CWM is now working.
Much appreciated.

No problem. When you exit CWM it tries to fix it anyway. Not sure if it just moves the file or what, but the key is to boot into CWM straight after flashing it (I made the same mistake this morning)..
I'm having the exact same issue...so If I re flash the Recovery as Markey Said will I lose the contents of my Internal memory or not?
hope this helps

if your using cwm i found to boot into recovery you have to have the 7 plugged into your computer with the micro usb..i dont know why but it worked for me..are you using the side bottons to get into recovery..if so plugged the cable in first then try to enter recovery
Easiest way is grab quick boot from the play store and it will let u reboot to cwm.. As above said a pc is needed because of a bug.. U can also do it connected to a phone if u have otg cable

You can access CWM through the power, up, down method and choosing recovery mode.... the tablet MUST be plugged in though... at least for me it does. Running CWM6 Touch....
I feel kind of sick...
I hope someone can assist. I screwed up, big time.
I decided to full wipe my device and choose to flash stock using Toolkit. However, usb debugging isn't shown as being enabled (I think) and I'm unable to get back into a ROM to enable it, since fully wiping my entire storage.
I have tried reinstalling drivers on so many occasions, I've tried pushing files, using sideload. Nothing works. I literally cannot find a way to flash any rom onto the device. I have CWM recovery, but no way of getting zips onto the device. I cannot access usb debugging. Toolkit always reads the serial for fastboot but never shows any active devices for ADB.
I'm stumped and currently have no way of using my device.
I should've never tried to wipe it to begin with.
Thanks to anyone who might be able to assist. I'm sorry to burden you all.
if you can access via fastboot just flash your system.img to the phone with fastboot flash system system.img!
too bad google pulled the nexus 4 factory image
I have the factory image for the Nexus 4. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the link to it on my Drive.
Use the nexus 4 toolkit to download the stock image for the phone and use keys on phone to boot to fastboot. Then connect phone to your PC and run the nexus 4 toolkit. It should detect your phone in fast boot mode and allow you to flash stock rom

Where might I find my system.img? I've never needed to look for it before but would know how to flash it via fastboot if I could find it! :good: (as long as this would solve my issue?)

Do you want to flash the image now? [type yes or no]:
It doesn't actually download, despite attempting to. I'm not sure why.
Google pulled the files on Dec 12 hence no download. What toolkit are you using? The one from WugFresh has a link to the images on goo.im.
Otherwise look at this thread for a link in the first post:

Many thanks man. The factory image worked like a charm. I didn't even have to extract it. I just flashed in via toolkit. I dropped the file into the put_google_factory_image_here folder and then flashed it using option 9. I'm so relieved to have a working device again.
Thanks to all that attempted to help my situation. I appreciate every effort made. Thanks for being so very patient.
Please feel free to use the thread to discuss similar matters further. I'm sure many in the future will find it very informative to refer to. It saved me and my N4 from a lifetime of despair! :good:

Cool. Glad to help!
Hello guys, bear with me please.
i was trying to root my N4 and followed the procedures to manually do that as toolkits are not good as they say here.
Everything went fine, i unlocked the bootloeader, flashed the CWM and when i rebooted it got stuck into bootloop of Nexus logo,
Then i cleared all caches, dalvik caches and tried but again got stuck on the same place.
Now i cant even get into the bootloader menu
Tried all the things, now what can i do?

Get in to Bootloader, once in bootloader, volume up until you get RECOVERY.
From there you'll have the Android with the Exclamation point, press the POWER keep it pressed and then Volume + . You will end up with the recovery screen. Do a factory reset from there and then reboot.
hit thanks! I just had this on my Nexus 4 too and got it to work.
all done, somehow i manage to factory reset from stock recovery heww:
Its back to 16gb again
and sorry for stupid queries last night, i guess i was freaked out xD
Hey guys so I made a huge booboo. I was using the nexus root toolkit 1.72. And I wanted to flash stock. I downloaded the stock files and tried to install but it said my baseband which was .33 was too old and needed .84. So I tried to flash the Google stock image. However when I did that I never backed up the previous cyanogen I was running. Now the phone is stuck in a Boot loop. When I try to go to recovery it doesn't allow me to. It brings up an android guy that's on his back with a red hazard symbol. Oh and also when I try to re install the Roms it won't work says adb isn't present but I have all the drivers. I can't put the phone into USB debugging because it won't turn on so its like I'm screwed no matter what. Do you guys have any idea how I can fix my bricked nexus 4? I'll do anything.

it gets flashed via fastboot while youre in the bootloader. no root toolkit needed, the way its supposed to be done.

Ok i have a unrooted Nexus 7 and it received the OTA update but stopped halfway through the update. Now the device will never pass the flashing LOGO symbol. this phone was never rooted and i never turned on the debug option. I tried using fastboot and adb but when i type the "devices" command it doesn't see the tablet. Also when i try to go into recovery mode it just shows the android with the red exclamation sign and says "no command". Can anyone help? Thank you.

This happened to me last night except I was rooted and had CWM installed. I wound up having to restore to factory settings and then I was able to OTA from there, so I lost all of my data. Are you using Windows or OSX? There is a great Nexus 7 Toolkit from Skipsoft which will do everything for you automatically. If you are on OSX I used the one click unroot restore found here http://www.androidrootz.com/2012/12/nexus-7-one-click-toolkit-for-mac.html

I was rooted and factory reset was the only way I could get it. I know there are other people on here far smarter than I am at getting the tablet to speak with the computer so there could very well be another way. Honestly I'm glad I did the factory reset though, my tablet is smooth as butter again. I had a lot of junk on it before that was really making it laggy. There is a Nexus specific tool kit here which I have used for everything that I did to my 2012 N7 (unlock, root, reset etc.) and it couldn't have gone smoother. It's fairly intuitive and there are lots of "how-to's" anyway.

Once in recovery, you might want to just try "Wipe cache partition" first, reboot and see if THAT fixes the issue. That way, you don't have to possibly lose all your app settings.
Otherwise, if that option doesn't work, then you need to select the "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" option. This WILL wipe out all your installed apps and their settings.
Hope this helps!
