some help please... - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I am new to the nexus 4 forum. I have expeirince with Samsung phones but not this phone.
The question i have is i got recovery installed. Found my favorite rom which is slim rom 4.3.
But when i finished flashing it i had no sound at all... I started the process with the latest version of kit kat
If that helps. I personally just don't like kit kat yet, not enough features... Thanks in advance.
I also am taking ROM suggestions. Looking for one that will help the low sound on device.

My personal suggestion... Flash hells core kernel and download FauxSound from the play store. Hells core will enable the sound levels to be changed and FauxSound is what you can use to change it.
I use this setup as I use quite high end headphones and my nexus just can't produce the volume I like through them.

Thanks for replying..

Are you using TWRP or CWM? I use the latest TWRP and never had a problem installing ROMs.
Do you experience the sound issue with other 4.3 ROMs too?

[Q] Kernels with high quality audio tweak?

Just a quick question, I am currently running the latest 'Motley' Kernel and wondered if it had the high quality audio tweak enabled that I know M-Kernel among others has? If not, is there a way to manually enable it?
Thankyou,
Frenetyc.
Check the OP.

Shall I just PM the dev? As i'm a 'n00b' I cannot post in the thread. Thanks!

Developer for Motley Kernel is 'dead' (RIP). So does anyone know if the kernel has the high quality audio tweak? Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Exactly what are you looking for. What results are you lookin for?
There are many sound options, some dependant on kernel support, and some working on almost any kernel.

It's a kernel based tweak, something to do with turning audio compression off I think? I know a lot of kernels have it, just wondered if Motley's did?
Thanks.

M-kernel has it turned off. I don't know what other kernels have it turned off or on.
Try searching for AGC in the kernel threads.

Thankyou but I know M-Kernel has it turned off, as I said in my OP. My original post was more specifically regarding Motley Kernel, as it is my current daily runner and there is no mention of 'Automatic Gain Control' in the related thread. I wish I could just ask in the thread itself but as I am a 'n00b', I require at least ten of my own posts before I am allowed to post in the thread! but I do appreciate the 'breadcrumb' so to speak.

Sorry thought you were looking for an alternative.
If you haven't already, you might what to check out Viper4 as a sound App. It's kernel independent.

Thanks for your help mate, I ended up finding the answer through DSP manager! (Lovin' XenonHD right now!)

Is it worth flashing a new kernel?

Hi guys, I've recently rooted my i9505, and after trying a few ROMs I've settled on BlackBox. I've never flashed a new kernel before, just stayed with whatever came with the rom, so would it make much difference if I did, and if so, what would people recommend and why?
Thanks in advance.

No probably it won't matter much. Sure there can be a minor difference in your situation, but there is no better kernel.
Some kernels are better optimized than the Samsung stock kernel, but between custom kernels there is not much difference. If you don't understand what the difference is between each kernel, just stay with the one that comes with your rom.
Sound advice, thanks.

no mean to offense anyone...
it is like buying something new to replace a good that you have already (and it is working).
you will have to go and check what custom kernels can give you, to see if it raises an eyebrow. from my experience, each kernel has its ups and downs (I did not find a perfect one). you have to try yourself. a kernel that was best for me might be bad for you, depending on what you expect and want.
there are LOTS of benefits a customer kernel can bring!

Hi mate !
The kernel for instance can offer much customization if you're already rooted and on a custom rom, you can change the amplification of the headphone and the speaker of your device, you can overclock / undervolt your device, you can change screen display settings, you can change the i/o scheduler to your personal liking ...etc and much more !
That's why users recommend it, because it can offer what stock kernel can't and won't offer you .

Just in case anyone's interested, I flashed Adam kernel the other day and it didn't really work out. The phone became very juttery and laggy, and I the end I had to restore a nandroid. Glad I gave it a go though.

[Q] Asphalt 8 High Graphics?

Since it became free i decided to give it a spin.
I am limited to medium graphics.
I read that you could get high graphics on stock kernel + stock rom, but i dont want to have stock rom.
Im running PA 3.99 + hells-core kernel.
Is it one of these factors that is limiting me to select only medium?:
Also, i can ONLY select medium, not low or very low...
Thanks
Hells core under clocks your CPU. So the game thinks you have a lower end phone. So PA with the built in kernel should be fine.

[HELP] Fix the Nexus4' ridiculous low AUX volume

Hey guys, so when I purchased my Nexus 4 a year ago, I couldn't find any working way to fix the Nexus low AUX volume.
I would like to know if anything changed in the last year, and if someone managed to tweak it ?
There are several kernels (faux, hellscore,ak,etc) that incorporate faux's audio work that will allow you to tweak volume.

Can use Franco kernel and app too.

im using stock 4.4.3 with hellscore latest karnel, + hellscore karnel menager
and you can change (boost) all volumes. here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/kernel-mod-hells-doctor-r8-t-r-d-s-mod-t2548872
and you can dl hellscore karnel menager here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themike10452.hellscorekernelmanager
Im using nameless rom 4.4.3 with ak poseidon kernel for cm with synapse [kernel manager also] to change the all volumes heights and the audio, and i am using viper4android fx to get fully hq music experience. But i dont know or aux will also work with that.

I am using Nexus 5 Experience ROM AOSP Version which comes with beats mod, along with Dolby sound mod found on this category and also Universal sound mod and faux kennel, everything awesome, great sound.
So on top of the ROM I ran universal sound and then the dolby mod at the end...
Here are the links:
Beats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44306194
Universal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50035056
Dolby: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51222503
Also for some reason I can never get the Beats sound app to work, I mean, it does not work to change the sound levels, so I use an old dsp manager app that I pulled from an electrify ROM I used previously, it works great, like it better than other volume adjustment apps, maybe I can share it too.

Hit the thanks button on their thread, no credit for me.
