[Q] Kit kat issue - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just updated my 2012 nexus 7 to 4.4.2 and I am having issues with little pixel looking artifacts appearing when rotating the screen and when switching users. Is anyone else having this issue?

I had the same after OTA, however, after I did factory image load (without wiping userdata) it went away. KOT49H Nakasi ..Used the bootloader 4.23 from jwr66v via XDA ..not saying this is a cure....but it's gone.

I had a similar issue when KitKat first came out. I wanted it so bad and it was only for the N5. I downloaded AOSP and built it, but didn't have the "official" proprietary drivers so I figured that was the issue.
Still haven't changed it, probably gonna flash Purity or PA tonight.

I cannot use my bluetooth headset anymore for skype & viber calls it has crazy sound after kit kat update.
anybody have a solution for this? Please help.

I've got this also and the weird pinkish flash when booting up. Seen quite a few other people reporting the same issues even after wiping and starting from scratch. Maybe not major issues but still annoying glitches that should be sorted.

[Q] Strange banding in 4.2?

I recently installed cm10.1, and noticed banding on the settings menu, and a weird patchiness in certain menus.
I'm not very good at being descriptive, and pictures speak a thousand words, so please see attatched.

I assumed this was a cm10.1 bug, what with it not being finished, but turns out stock 4.2 does this.
Are there any remedies to this?
Bump
It is common, not sure if it is a cm10.1 issue, or a nexus 7 issue, or a 4.2.1 error

Doesn't seem like too big of a deal, but you could try installing a theme and see of that fixes it if you're bothered and on cm10.
Turns out its by design implemented by google, its simply a terrible image created by them. This guy has a fix though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052598
xda n7
Its by design?! They really dropped the ball on 4.2.
Thank you for the link to the thread.
I noticed this as well and at first, it had me worried my screen had internal injuries or something.
Then I turned it to landscape and the issue rotated with it, so I was like "Oh, that's strange."
It has to be a 4.2/CM10.1 issue, as my phone (though less apparent) has it too.

Weird screen flash during bootup after upgrading to KitKat

Background/Insight
After finally becoming fed up waiting for the OTA update to reach my device, I decided it was about time I manually update my Nexus 7 (2012) through ADB. While everything appeared to install perfectly (followed these guides: Guide1 & Guide2) I noticed one odd quirk after rebooting... A hideous white flash occurs right before the boot animation plays. To most it probably isn't a big deal, but to my OCD and I it is a huge deal (not really, but it is a little annoying).
The Question
Now, all that being said, has anybody else experienced a similar issue with their Nexus 7 (2012)? If so, were you able remedy it? Any input is greatly appreciated!
Here's a video I took of it: https://db.tt/byTVcr1i
Also, here's someone I found on YouTube who has a similar after having upgraded to KitKat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XaL0E0JMJo
Yes. Don't worry, from observation I have determined that is a copy of the last on screen image of the system recovery

KitKat 4.4.1 KOT49E make multitouch screen bug wrost on my NEXUS 7

Hi,
I just install Kit 4.4.1 on my Nexus 7 2013 wifi and make a test with YAMTT to see if the ghost touch and multitouch bug is gone. On my device it's still there and worst.
If I put my left thumb on a side of the screen and with my other hand put two finger on the right side of the screen and rotate my finger, I got a LOT of ghost touch
Here the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-CMpUPFsig
Just to let know, I solved the problem with the FIX provided by sfhub.

I've heard they aren't doing anything about it. Are you sure they replaced it? How long was it gone and returned?
I'm getting fed up with mine. I just updated to 4.4.1 and still not right.

Try updating to 4.4.2 because a lot of users are saying the touch screen issues are fixed finally, assuming its not a hardware issue for you.

this issue is the same as z1 so this cannot be resolved even with the update since many are still complaining.
Have to test this out further, but it seems that 4.4.2 fixed my ghost touch problems. I haven't had any problems with typing and gaming since I've updated.
I'm still on 4.4.
Kitkat fixed a lot of my touch problems (although not 100%), but now I'm afraid 4.4.1 / 4.4.2 might make them come back again.
I think this is the last time I'm buying an Asus Nexus product.
4.4 fixed it all for me. 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 had no changes. Good as gold. Shld give it a go

Touchscreen on 4.4.2

Could you please report if your touchscreen has gotten better or worse afer the update?:fingers-crossed:
Some people are saying that it fixed everything for them, but I just saw someone who said that multitouch has become unusable...
For me it definietly made it, and as I see it became smoother...
(I am using ART with stock rooted ROM)

But the ghost touch bug is still present. I think this is hardware issue but cannot find any service manual to investigate
Good as gold as with all releases since 4.4
nothing changes
I've seen a little bit of improvement, but I also only had problems under some app-specific conditions. Though, I've noticed the N7 is unusually sensitive to hand/finger temperature. If my hands are even remotely cool, I can't get anything to work. Meanwhile, my S4 in a condom Otterbox Defender reads touches just fine even with freezing hands.
:\
Its not good! i have problem with multitouch and battery life is down!! and i see a bit lack in this new version!(4.4.2 - Nexus 7 LTE ) .... pls Help me .... how to fix it?
touch screen has been issued in 4.4

4.2.2 almost fixes my DEB model
Hi,
My tablet is one of the unlucky ones which were not fixed by sfhub's patches.
Fortunately, the 4.2.2 OTA makes my tablet smoother. Except for 1 inch strip of non-responsive space (little below the top vertical position), things work fine. I see no ghost touches and multi-touch works fine as long as I dont touch that 1 inch part.
Hmm, it takes 3 OTAs and lot of belief in customers like me to get to this state!
Perfect so far since 4.4. Also, tested ungrounded with one and two fingers with Google Maps and no issues.
I haven't tested 4.4.2, but I WAS using SfHubs ts20 on 4.3.
I flashed the TouchScreen Unlock and then back to 100% stock 4.3 and updated to 4.4 naturally using the OTA procedure. Then updated to 4.4.1.
I tested all along the way and it seems to have helped some. Typing isn't as big as a problem but there are still missed touches and generally sucks trying to play action games. 4.4.1 seemed to help a bit again.
I'm going to try this again with 4.4.2 since I've heard good things. If this doesn't fix it, I'm sending it off to Asus. I've heard they are now replacing the touchscreen driver boards with different ones which basically means it is a hardware problem and they know it.
I haven't tried the "stock" drivers yet, still using TS09 but I will revert back tomorrow.
I got a old Nexus 7 from my mobile operator the other day.. damn, what a dream touch wize.. Why cant Nexus 7 FHD work like this? :/ I can actually TYPE on the old Nexus.
Mine seems to be mostly resolved since 4.4.

[Q] Slow Nexus 7

My 2012 16 GB Nexus 7 gets vey slow over time and then I have to wipe it and do a factory restore. It has stock 4.4.2. I understand that the TRIM command was implemented in 4.3, which what was supposed to be causing the slowness. Are others still experience slow Nexus 7's even after Google supposedly fixed this? I would rather not install other ROM's
Thanks.
I have the exact same issue on my 2012 N7. It's slow, very slow, for instance if I'm listening music on it, I can't do anything else or the music becomes choppy. Mine is rooted with stock rom.

Same here. But mine is non rooted stock. Was rooted before but after a few factory resets and reflash stock firmware im now not rooted. There is some problem with trim what I have understand from my little reading on the net.
Thinking of flashing cyanogenmod and see if they have made a solution to this.
If anyone have a tip your welcome to share.

Yeah, but that TRIM problem was addressed with Android 4.3 I guess, but the issue still exists on my N7. I simply cannot multitask on mine or it will freeze everything, it's frustrating.

It was supposed to be addressed in 4.3 but to my experience it wasn't...
Mine freeze aswell and are really sluggish. Checking the "best ROM" thread ATM to see if I get a good tip on ROM with kernel.

Same issue here. I read once that it had something to do with how it wrote to SD card. That a brand new grouper wouldn't have the same issues because it would be running this from the the starr. Someone suggested formatting the card and re flashing from adb, but I was never clear about how they would do that, nor were they clear about whether it truly fixed the problem.
I find that switching to Nova launcher helps, but then it starts bogging down too... Very frustrating ? .

I was just posting about this issue. I have 6Gbs free.. Any solution? Mine is 16Gb wifi Thanks!
Both my wife's and my 2012 16GB N7 suffer from this on occasion. I was running rooted stock, but decided to give Rastakat a go. It's AOSP with a couple of extras, but it has made an improvement with the slowdowns. I also gave SD Maid from the app store a go. That freed up a considerable amount of space for me and helped as well. Since I just converted my N5 to F2FS, I'm considering doing the same with my grouper to see if it makes a difference.

I have the same issue. Mine seems to be more responsive when less than half of the total storage is used. Ridiculous, I know, but that's the only thing that seems to work for me.

Well, to be honest, I cannot even update apps from Google Play due to slowness. I'm trying with SD Maid... it doesn't seem to work either!

The auto TRIM command seems to be broken for the Nexus 7 (2012) in Kit Kat. I've experienced the same slowdown on 3 different 4.4.2 ROMs so today after loading SlimKat I decided to download the Lag Free Fix we used to have to run with 4.2 and sure enough it took a few minutes to run which indicates the TRIM was needed. Even with a fresh install the speed difference and less laggy interface was quite noticable
Try the Lag Free Fix on Google Play, it won't hurt anything and I bet you'll see a difference
BTW this is not a problem with my Galaxy SIII and Nexus 10 running Kit Kat, just the N7 2012
