Hi everyone, long time reader, first time threader. I've been reading alot about the Nexus One and without going into a ****load of detail, as you all know, the forums do attract alot of negative reviews, only because, obviously, the masses of people out there who are happy with their shiny new handset are sitting back, playing with their gadget, probably laughing at the world.
My phone arrives tomorrow, so I thought it would be interesting to start a thread that everyone can post their positive, satisfied testimonials in. If this thread fails I will take that as a fail over all.
Nothing negative here, if you're happy with your new Nexus let everyone know here. Over 9,000 pages.
I think that is a very good initiative !
In a couple of hours my phone should arrive.. i'll post my first-hand thoughts !
Mine is awesome. I have none of the issues everyone is talking about. In particular, I like the battery life compared to my last htc, and how easy it was to pair to my 3 cars.
Very happy
As a mover from WinMo to the N1 I am very happy. I still have plenty of learning to do about Android and will root when I think the community has enough tools to make it really worth it, but my first impressions are that this is a good quality handset that feels good in the hand and is very responsive.
I have been using it for 10 days and wouldn't consider any of the small challenges I've had anything more than an ignorance of what Android is possible of.
I hope you have as good an experience as I have
I've been a long time iPhone (jailbroken) user and have just got into the Android scene with my Nexus One.
I must say,...I'm absolutely loving the device,..my 3GS feels dated in comparison! I'd still say the iPhone OS has more polish then the current iteration of Android 2.1, but know that won't be for too much longer.
Loving the Android community too!
Time to sell that 3GS on ebay
Very Very Happy
I would like to say that I am very happy with the phone having played about with it for the last 3 days. It is everything I expected it to be and the more apps/widgets I add the more impressed I am with it.
Being a smart/internet phone it heavily relies on a good connection. On 3g/WIFI it is easily the best phone I have used and in terms of ease of use and speed it matches the iphone.
I had to set up the APN settings after I got the phone and ever since then the connection has been fine. Please note that on GPRS the speed is not that great - which is not a fault of the phone.
It surpasses the iphone in terms of customizability and the fact that you can have a number of apps running at the same time without ANY slowing down! ON a Jail broken iphone everything bugged down due to multiple apps being used.
I only need a decent case now as it has slipped out of my hand several times due to its slick design!
Overall - very impressed, very happy, absolutely no regrets about not getting the iphone which was the only other alternative I was considering.
Great phone
I went from having a G1 since February last year over to getting the nexus last monday (ordered it a couple of hours after the press conference). All i can say is... wow!!!
Well, actually i can say some more things ;-) This piece of aluminium and glass is lightning quick. It's slim, it has the best phone-screen that i have ever seen, Android 2.1 looks extremely nice (like what they replaced the drawer with). Not having physical buttons is no problem since it have tactile feedback (takes a couple of minutes to get used to but after that you don't really reflect over it).
My friend has the IXXXXX 3gs and we have compared web loading speed. Let me just say that the NE is always faster when it comes to loading the entire page. Sometimes it is twice as fast (we tried several urls of which neither of us had visited before - they were not cached). When you flipped the G1 over to the side, it sometimes took several seconds for the image to flip with it. On the NE it is instantanious.
As for the problems you guys have had with 3g->2g and back, i can't really say i've had these issues. Where i live (Sweden) it have worked rock solid since the beginning.
There exists one issue with the screen on the NE right now, but since is the praise-thread where we are all positive, i will save that for another thread
Kind regards
Daniel
I've been a long time WinMo and Blackberry user here, and the N1 is my first Android device.
I'd have to say, I'm definitely impressed. The hardware is slick and fast, I've had absolutely no issues with the phone other people have had (except no 3g coverage when I'm at work, but life goes on). Pictures are good for a phone, everything is just nice.
Once an N1 with a hardware keyboard comes out, I'll give the current N1 to the boyfriend as he's smitten with it and -hates- hardware keyboard, whereas I have to have a device with a hardware keyboard (work-related, I send emails like a fiend).
It plays Pokemon Ruby perfectly. And...it just works.
On a positive note as well, yesterday in my office with had a Blackberry (Tour), WinMo (Imagio), WebOS (Pre), iPhone (3gs) and of course my Nexus One. iPhone, WinMo and Blackberry users were aaall jealous (especially the iPhone user). The Pre guy likes it a lot as well, but not quite smitten.

This is my and the n1'a one week anniversary and we will be celebrating tonite over wine and and a movie. Everyone make sure to tell your nexus how much you love it.
I have had nothing but good experiences with this phone, I don't even have to use the Keyboard!

Just thought I would share!
Lovin' it
Again - I have absolutely no complains about the nexus at all. It is the device that I have been waiting for so long, and it does not disappoint in any way. Had it for 2 weeks now and still can't stop playing with it. Can't think of any other bit of tech where the novelty hasn't worn off after a couple of days
So I received the phone 10 hours ago, and only let it out of my hand because I had to go to the toilet and eat.
Its fantastic.
Ditto, Ditto, Ditto to all the comments.
1 week old for me, moved from a Symbian. This is much better. Sorted out the sync process for my emails and calender (from Outlook - I love the fact I don't need to connect the phone to my PC to sync, I know it may well be days before I need to turn the PC on with this phone). No manufacture issues. Lots of looks from iphone droids (incl my gf!). Loads of Apps.
Can't wait for flash, because when that arrive, there will be no beating this sweet bit of kit - oh yes, and the price, for a SIM free, £360 delivered (subject to possible VAT) is an awesome price!
I can't praise this enough! I simply see it as a HTC with a google ad/logo on it!! Nothing wrong with that in my eyes.
My Nexus One is really fun to just poke at the background of.
Well I mean it just does everything my myTouch 3G did except better, and that's really what I wanted
I use mine on the toilet! (I know; that is grody.) It is that hard to part from the phone. I'm coming from a rooted G1 that I spent a lot of time playing around with.
In comparison to the iPhone, Android + Nexus One hardware makes it far superior. Not saying the iPhone isn't a great piece of hardware in its own respect, I just think the marketing that went behind it has implanted the idea that it is the most superior phone out there. To me, the Nexus One has disproved that. I can actually have a phone with a background (live wallpapers, FTW) and not populated with a bunch of squares (widgets, FTW). I can actually view all my notifications and have quick access to them via simple swipe of the notification bar.
I use text-to-speech on this phone as I did on my G1. SayMyName is quite useful (despite some bugs on the N1, it reads the contact number not the name). On my G1, SayMyName would slow my calls down and it would ring 4-5 times before actually giving me a chance to pick up. Not so much on the N1. It is instant.
Camera takes nice pictures. Navigation works great (used it on the G1, but should be same on the N1, just faster). The screen is pretty, very pretty. Simply put, this phone is awesome!
I apologize for my ramblings; I've been getting a lot of flak from iPhone users. I hope everyone enjoys their Nexus One as much as I do.
I've used WinMo devices for the past five years or so (Since O2 XDA). Latest one was a HTC Touch Diamond.
I've been using my Nexus One now for a week and it never stops to amaze me. I thought my Touch Diamond was pretty neat, but compared to the speed and ease-of-use of Android on this blazingly fast N1... it's just awesome. And (unlike my Touch Diamond) it doesn't need soft resets three times a day....
Mine is really awesome. I have none of the issues some are talking about. In particular, I like the Speed, UI, Design, Flexability, Customizing, etc...Did I mention Fast
Got mine ~4 hours ago. After reading through these forums the past day to see what problems I might expect, the only issue I saw, but was prepared for, was one edge of the screen wasn't sealed. Turned the hairdryer on it for ~30 seconds, pressed down and the screen stuck. No dust was under the screen straight out of the plastic protector. No 3G swapping issues (T-Mobile).
Impressive piece of kit, especially coming from a Dash where some keys weren't working and sound quality had gone to crap.
Compared to my wife's MyTouch 3G, the Android keyboard is waaaay easier to get keys on the outer edge to register. It usually takes me a few tries on the wife's, but the N1 keys register on the first try.
Very happy ~4 hours in.
Had it around a week and a half now. Absolutely love it! After spending so many years with WinMo I can't describe the difference. Such a great piece of hardware too.
Just really getting tired of all these silly threads coming up on how someone has the most minute problem with this Zeus of a phone and needs to bash bash bash. I wanted to create a thread where users can post on the things that make them love their sgs2.
For me its the 1080p video recording. Just installed the modded camera apk from the Dev section and took a video. WOW am I impressed.

I agree. Really impressed by the device. Using it for 3 weeks now and it never failed. Coming from Milestone, this is heaven.
I was thinking of starting a similar thread. With every person with an issue posting a crisis thread assuming everyone else is having the same problem the front page looks a horror story. Then the same three people with the issue post a dozen posts, basically to each other, and you have three pages worth of the exact same thing repeated over and over. Then, god forbid you post anything that doesn't support the latest conspiracy theory and you're flamed.
My phone's part of my life - not my life. I don't think that's so for some of my fellow owners. I mean seriously, I know the phone's not cheap, and it's not perfect, but compared to everything out there it's fantastic. Using a car analogy, if the dash lighting on your BMW's not to your liking you suck it up. You don't try to get a gaggle of those that also don't like the dash lighting and attack BMW. Either live with it, trade the car in, and/or never buy another BMW again. The same thing applies to the SGS2. If Samsung does lurk this board we're undoubtedly providing them with tons of laughs as a small percentage of users are ballistic having had the realization the phone wasn't designed specifically for them.
Anyway, I just got back from an extended trip and here's some of the things I really like about the phone:
1) The software's tight. It responds quickly and consistently each and every time. I've had no funkiness turning the various data functions on and off and all the integrated apps work well together just like they're supposed to.
2) As a media device the phone's the best out there. I downloads a bunch of MKV files before the trip and the phone isn't even phased. Web browsing is fast and fluid and I personally like the Media and Reader Hubs.
3) As an audio device the phone's great. I have about 2,000 tracks on it that are DRM protected Rhapsody files and they play flawlessly. The audio output's great for the way I use the phone - through headphones, via Bluetooth, and through the onboard speaker.
4) The phone aspect works well for me. I can hear people clearly and they can hear me both through the handset and Bluetooth. So many new high-end phones suck at being just a phone.
5) I love the screen. The vividness of the colors and blackness of the blacks are unmatched. That especially shines through with videos, pictures, and web browsing.
Well, those are the things that stand out for me. Anything not mentioned doesn't mean I don't like it, they're either not important or functioning as designed. The latter being a good thing.
So to all potential purchasers, take time to read through this forum beyond the crisis posts. The mute majority is actually quite happy with the SGS2.
Everything nothing is bad some can be improved is my view battery display GPS good .
My phone's part of my life - not my life
Agree but you must understand many posters love the phone as they cannot get a girlfriend .
Others are not technically minded enough to use the phone the ones who double post dont use search or read faqs must fall in to that category .
Then their are the sad ex Iphone users who need hand holding or HTC who buy a phone without sense ..

Agreed. People take this stuff way too close to the heart.

Well, I love my SGS2. I can post here It may not be 100% perfect, but no phone is. This device is the best on the Market right now imo, I recommend it to my friends. They really like the screen, the colours and ultra blacks
I seriously couldnt think of anything I dont like. Only thing I hope is developers start optimizing their apps for the Galaxy S II!
i luv luv luv my sgs2

LMFAO! that's pretty funny! I actually think they COULD get a girlfriend, but it's easier to invest 600+ euro in a phone, rather than investing 600+ euro in a make over, getting into shape and dating. Lol. I love my phones, a lot. But that has NEVER stopped me from dating hehe.
EDIT: You can always find a way to get both in your life! Like, taking public transport to dates, and then while in the tube / bus / train, you could tinker with your phone ^^
I've bought Samsung Galaxy S 2 few days ago and it's incredible!
Granted, I used to have Touch HD so I don't really have anythin good to compare it to, but anyway, I'm in love with it.
P.S. This is like my second post or something
Have fun
I agree. In fact reading so many threads about issues here and there, I started getting cold feet and became concerned the device would be sub-par. However, its an amazing device.
I love the HD recording. I love that Samsung took issues with the previous Galaxy S series and added new functions. For example, there are now settings to change the touch-key light settings to 1.5s to 6s to always off/on or only in the dark. Nice feature. My battery life is better than I had hoped for and haven't even used the power mode feature which is also a nice feature.
My previous phone was a Captivate with serious GPS issues. The GPS in the SGS2 can get up to 4m-10m accuracy. I take the train everyday and while the Cappy used to show me a few km away on a highway, the SGS2 will actually show me as being on the train tracks with dead on accuracy.
It doesn't overheat, doesn't have any yellow streaks and I love my SGS2
I love being able to do anything within 3 seconds with my SGS2
Me: *click *click "Bring me pizza! Now!"
SGS2: Your wish is my command, sir. Meanwhile, could you please rephrase your voice command?
Me: ArrrRRRrr!

Now this is comforting to hear. Like the man said I was getting cold feet, first the camera issue, now the OELD burnin/yellow issues, people whining about wifi range and battery life.
You'd think this device was a disaster. Yet all the reviews praise the **** out of it. So I was starting to have some doubts about buying it but, it's really nice to see some positive community feedback that goes to show once again that a very loud minority can indeed make you doubt your choices...
Most of these forums are plagued with issues posting because
1. These forums are the easiest location to find solutions for issues. Great gateway to compare experiences (it would be great if people searched and posted in the same topic thread instead of making a new one)
2. It represents a very tiny part of the whole population of owners hence amplifying the issues no matter how many folks are affected by it
3. Most folks won't post unless they run into an issue
As for me. Device has been nothing but stellar
- Great battery life (much better than any other smartphone that i've had and i've had many since the winmo slide out qwerty keyboard device days)
- Improved SAMOLED screen over the last gen and it's noticeably sharper
- Form factor. There is nothing else like it and it's comfortable in my hand and my pocket
- Quickness. There is nothing really slowing down the device at all.
- WIFI - Reception is better than my galaxy s and gets better throughput than any other wifi device that i own except my computer
- Cell reception - My apartment is located next to the water and i don't get great reception in certain parts of my apartment and i get much better reception - four to three bars of hspa+!!! (I get dropped calls with my verizon bb sometimes and none for the gsii yet)
- Comes with gingerbread from the factory and updated constantly
My honeymoon period is over and there are certainly few things that they could have improved on but i'm glad i got the gs2 on the launch day.

Ah ah, best answer ever
Good thread. I also would like some issues to be resolved, but we all should understand one thing - with increasing complexity of devices, there will be some issues. It is bound to have certain compatibility issues with zillions of different types of formats used. There will always be some compromise made by OEM on what to put in the device - cost vs features vs weight vs thickness Etcetera...
For those who see everything in negative light, I have a solution.
deeply in love with sgs2
Its good to see some love instead of all the usual gripes and moans...
I came from an HD2 and wasnt expecting this phone to completely replace it, but it has. The HD2 is in a drawer and I dont see it coming out for a while. Feel kinda bad for it.. lol
Im loving the readers hub, saves me getting off my lazy ass to go to the newsagents that and the mind blowing speed, gorgeous screen etc etc....
Very happy with my SGS2
Hi guys,
Recently sold my Xperia Z as personally I thought it was a huge dissapointment IMO. So now I have the cash again to splash on a phone but need some real user experiences and reviews from people who have received their devices today.
If possible I am looking for any information about the things you like or don't like. Any suprises or dissapointments. Camera/Video samples. Screen comparisons with existing devices.
I understand it is early days but hopefully over the next couple of days, or until at least HTC sort the stock problems out, I will have an idea if I should go ahead with buying this device. I also know therer are many reviews posted across this forum, but I am looking for real user experiences which will hopefully help people like myself decide on if this is the phone for us.
Thanks all!
Some first impressions
- It looks and feels like a piece of advanced alien technology - it makes my brothers iPhone 5 look cheap
- Screen is amazing. Tried the Xperia Z in store, this screen is miles ahead. Viewing angles and saturation is top notch.
- This is the first time I've liked sense, and haven't felt compelled to stick CM on it as soon as possible
- It gets a tad warm if you use it for ages, but it's not too bad
Just had the brother in law bring over a Nexus7 from BestBuy US over to the UK.
Bloody brilliant. Had the first N7 and stopped using it towards the end of the year. It was getting slow and the screen felt bad after using the HTC One as my daily driver.
This new model has tipped it all around again. Super fast, great screen, "better" speakers - Not as good as the HTC One, buttery smooth and really like the feel of the slimed down sides. Much comfier to hold.
No issues at all.
Thought it was worth a post, everyone moans but not many people share the good bits!
I agree. I am very happy with my tablet. The low price combined with the top-notch hardware is a combination that cannot be surpassed.
Sad to say, but I'm leaving these wonderful community full of wonderful people for a different platform. Nope not I-thingy or Windows phones. I've chosen a non-hostile OS to Android which is Blackberry10 OS(whutt!?). I got myself a Z10 so it's not really a rundown model like the previous ones. Why Blackberry? I just can't stand the 6 months shelf life thing that's going on these days(spec-wars). 'Want to again enjoy my gadget til the buttons fell off(just like my Nexus).. Just wanna say I've learned a lot from these group, about Android apps(which BB 10 can also run), it's customization prowess and how to optimize my then Nexus S. Naturally age caught up with it. Didn't even matter if I replaced the battery with a new one just to keep it going.. It just can't go toe to toe with new models right now, and size-wise. Which lead me to migrate. So again I would like to thank the community for accepting me, and giving me your overwhelming support. I still have an Android tablet, so i won't be too far off. Again cheers to you guys, my utmost respect remains with you til the very end. Please don't stop. Keep flashing(not the weird kind) and no Farewells!
Have fun with your new toy.. I know that leaving the NS is hard, but now using the NS is really hard.. I have my dpi set higher now since I have a bigger screen, it is so nice to read without holding the phone to your face, that when I use the NS everything just feels tiny.. My daughter is playing with the NS currently, but I have to help her as she's only 2..
Yup, although my Z10 would be mainly used for calls, sms and some e-mailing. Since I always have my android tablet around for entertainment purposes.. the Blackberry would be just fine. The NS is with my girlfriend, her phone kinda bricked recently. At least her thumb would fit the keyboard nicely. Good for her! =)
you could have just posted it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2865013
anyways goodluck and enjoy with your new toy man. ??
