Kinda pointless post but was bored at work so thought I'd share my views for anyone else who's on the fence about getting it:
I was waiting for CES announcements to see what was coming out in the future but changed my mind and decided to jump in and get a Nexus S. I was coming from an old WinMo phone that I've had for ages (having been a poor student), which probably isn't the best base to be commenting on this but I'm used to android as I've been deving on my housemates HTC Desire HD.
I'm so glad I did, I won't lie and say the phone is perfect as no phone is. It is, however, a true pleasure to use and looks gorgeous (especially compared to WinMo).
I mostly just wanted to put a nice positive post on the forums because there's allot of people moaning about one thing or another to-do with the phone and as with anything people only tend to post when they have a problem or issue. Especially regarding the specs being current gen and not next gen; and therefore a lack of longevity. It's easy to forget that being a "Google" phone means that regardless of hardware it will be around for a while, and will still be enjoyable and exciting to use during that time thanks to the ongoing updates.
The device feels solid and premium, even the plastic backing, and I prefer it in the hand and visually to my house mates Desire HD (which is also a great phone). Battery life is better than most equivalent devices. Sound is crisp and clear. Reception on the same network has been better that the HD. Everything has worked perfectly. The screen is beautiful, especially if you like darker backgrounds.
My only disappointment is the lack of gorilla-glass, but that's not a biggy for me.
The phone wasn't meant to be bleeding edge. It was meant to work, and work well. It does, and to quote Mr. D's "I'm loving it".
Thumbs up Google and Samsung.
Even though people are going crazy over the dual-core phone announcements at CES, but none of those phones won't be available in months and they still will launch with Froyo.
The Nexus S still uses the most powerful harware available at the moment but the feature that it's really marketed for is the fact that it will be running vanilla Anroid and will get update priority.
I have this phone and I can easily say it's one of the best android phone the market. Here in the UK there is no 4G so all this no HSPA+ stuff doesnt really affect me.
agree
Hear hear! I totally agree. This is my first smartphone and I am loving the Nexus S. Pure Google experience all the way.

IMHO the NS is still a sexier device then the ones shown at CES. Just saying

I understand and agree with wanting the Nexus S for the timely and clean updates, but I've always called people out when they play the "I don't need it" card when specs are compared. There are many things on phones we don't "need," but that doesn't abate people's disappointments. Granted, it goes both ways; people will find anything to complain about (like if it had 720p recording, some would say it should have 1080).
Everyone is different, everyone has opinions, and everyone can voice them at an open forum.
I love the clean black look of the Nexus S. No emblems, no harware, and no icons.

Amen. The SAMSUNG on my i9000 and the T-Mobile & Samsung on the Vibrant are just butt ugly compared next to the totally unmarked NS.
Still, that ugly Verizon logo on the new Samsung LTE phone won't keep me from buying it!

Agreed! My first 'real' smartphone too (my Nokia E63 could be classed as a smartphone, albeit not a very good one, suited me at the time though) and I absolutely love it! I have finally jumped on the Android wagon (lack of money prevented me before ) and I am not looking back!

Same with Australia. We have WiMAX but only in Perth and a couple of other places (not in my area though) but it doesn't support phones. So everything is perfect for me! Sure there are other features that would have been nice to have, but I would never had really used them, so overall it doesn't detract from the experience.

You think that's a difference? Try coming from a Blackberry .
Seriously, I love this thing.
I think I'm one of the few when I say that I like the build. It looks very good, all black. Plastic makes it lighter, and it's firmer. Only con is that plastic is slippery, and of course fingerprints. The Contour Display, although subtile, makes it very appealing, as does the chin on the back.
Especially with Super AMOLED and it's deep blacks, the phone is awesome. I really like the notification bar fading into the phone itself, and that the buttons are not visible when the phone is turned off. We will get the Nexus S with Super Clear LCD here, which will be nice for lighter interfaces and for browsing the web, but I am a little bit jealous on the Americans and the Britons. With Super AMOLED a dark background looks much better, and in combination with the black finish of the phone, it's beautiful.
The Nexus S is my 4th android phone & I love it. I started with a T-Mobile Pulse (I really liked that phone, coming from a Nokia n97!), then the HTC Hero, HTC Desire & finally the Nexus S.
I thought the screen was good on my Desire (when I'm not outside lol), but the 4 inch NS screen is just amazing. I had to get used to a few things though...
1) No notification light (noled app is a good solution, but obviously uses a little bit of battery as the screen is on).
2) lack of trackball (this is just personal as I used the trackball a lot for moving the curser when typing).
3) the phone is really light & a bit slippery (i love the handsets design, but I'll get a case once I find one I like).
4) no sense ui (not for the Widgets, I jus prefer the dialler, gallery & SMS apps over the stock android ones).
Overall, the points I mentioned have not stopped me loving this phone. They are just things I became accustomed to from my previous android phones. I also miss the excellent Facebook integration from sense ui (birthdays in my calendar for example).
Having said all that, I still wouldn't swap my Nexus S for any other phone on the market today. I'm a big fan of complete customisation & I haven't even mentioned the ease of getting full root (anyone tried to get 'S-OFF' on a Desire lol) or the fact I have gingerbread out of the box! Finally, any phone with a screen bigger than 4 inches is just too uncomfortable for me.
There's my 2p worth

I came to the Nexus S from the Evo, and I have to say that I like it more in almost every way. I do, however, have one legitimate complaint, and that is that the wifi connections are very weak.
I just switched over to the NS4G from the Epic 4G today and after playing with this for a solid 8hrs now.
NO REGRETS.. It's fast right out of the box.. I almost didn't even bother rooting it I was so impressed.. Then I did root, flashed mikeyinid's v.5 ROM and WOW. It just got faster...
Amazing phone.. I will never.. Ever.. Go back to a non-Google phone again.. Yeah, it's plastic on the back, but it feels solid.. Not wobbly and cheap like my Epic felt. Swore Tyco made that thing.
I love my Nexus S too, its my first Droid phone, although my girlfriend had the mytouch. I learned how awesome droids are from rooting and installing a custom ROM on. I had jailbroken iPhones and iPod for my self and friends in the past but the freedom of the Droid was what made me want one. I was going to get the mytouch 4g but after I saw the nexus s at best buy, I knew I had to get it, the screen is by far the best looking, and its just sexy. I have had for two months and I love it. James Bond Sabi Dee UV kernal is so smooth, running cm7.

Its more aswsome if u flash a cm7 into it. Totally worth to downgrade back to 2.3.3 and flash a cm 7.0.3

I may as well plugin my thoughts too. I just passed down my Nexus One to my girlfriend and got the Nexus S. I'm quite happy with it!
Things I like about it versus the N1...
- 4" is my new favorite size
- The haptic feedback feels better
- Light weight
- SCLCD makes texts easier on the eyes
- It feels faster overall... smooth scrolling in stock launcher!
- Camera mic picks up much better audio when recording
- Battery feels like it lasts longer after heavy use!
Things I don't like about it versus the N1...
- It's plastic and I'm very hesitant when putting it in my pocket - need to find a case soon
- Display colors don't seem as vibrant, but definitely clear and great color reproduction... just not excellent (again, I'm using the SCLCD version not AMOLED)
Summary: No regrets switching my N1 for NS! The size, speed and battery life made me one very happy owner!

How would you rate the battery on the Nexus S compared to the Desire?
Ahh while we are praising our NS's, I want to say something about how I felt when I first got my phone. Ordered it beginning of April from negri-electronics and was a bit skeptical at first, but after being brainwashed by the ads online and playing with the NS that was on display at Best Buy, I couldn't wait any further.
The day came and I had been creeping on the tracking status every 2 minutes to check the location of the package. I had gotten it expedited so I'd get it as fast as possible, yet the shipping day felt like the longest day ever when I was sitting and waiting outside my house with 3 cups of coffee, my laptop, and season 6 of The Office. After waiting for about 283828833 hours (in reality 3 hours) my package came! Felt like christmas when I opened that box, popped in my sim, and watched that sexy Nexus Bootscreen in awe much like my first time last year.
My cellphone journey was weird.
I started out with a small nokia phone that lasted me quite a long time. Then I 2 christmases ago I got a blackberry. My mother had picked up the N1 at that time and I loved it so much I traded her my blackberry (after countless times of persauding the blackberry was faster and such.. ) From then on my love for the Google Phone spread like wildfire.
And now I'm with SNS. Not Samsung Nexus S, my Sexy Nexus S.

Ok guys ive been reading mixed comments about the Atrix that its good and that its not. I was in 2 minds whether to get the Atrix or the LG Optimus 2X. Originally I was gonne get which ever I could get my hands on 1st. Both have their pros and cons i.e. camera, ram, locked bootloader, screen quality, internal memory etc
Well I decided to get the LG and this comment made in the o2x forum sealed it
Ive been using my atrix couple weeks an am falling out of love with it fast, after yesterday it ramdomly shut off 2x an today once sofar. The screen is beging to bother me the screendoor washed out look. Allready returned lapdock, that cant even compare to a real laptop in my opion. So im looking hard at the Lg 2x for an upgrade of camera, gyroscope, performance, faster upgrade to gingerbread, real mirroring, 1080p recording an play back, 7.1 sound, totaly unlocked phone. Yes 512mb memory is trade off, but operating system will handly that, an the battery is non issue, I'll have a spare battery or a charging source anyway. Not to mention not paying 20/month to not tether, an having my data speeds throttled down to 1.5mb down an 310kb up lat of 350-800. An Atrix doesnt do LTE

But now im stiill thinking what to do as Im so impatient and want a dual core phone asap. So I made this poll to see everyones view
Coming from a N1, there's not that much improvement. I'm satisfied, but not amazed by this phone. Still debating if I should return it and wait it out.
My impressions:
-Definitely faster, everything is much snappier, but browsing-wise there's not much of a difference.
-Screen is bright and sharp (as long as you don't put your face within inches of the screen you won't really notice the pentile display. But it's still an annoyance when you notice it)
-Camera is marginally better. Pretty disappointing for a flagship device. Plus the media gallery lags like this is a 2 year old phone when zooming in and out.
-GPS is amazing
-Pretty much Motorblur slows this phone's speed and potential. If this device was stock or able to flash truly custom ROMs, it'd be screaming in speed and blow every competitor out of the water.

Custom ROMS would make it a whole lot better.
19 voters.. 2 responses.. lol
I think it lives up to the hype.. couple quirks I miss from my captivate but.. besides that the phone is solid.
Now I just got to wait for Tango to support our phones :T
Came from the LG Expo. A much better improvement than the last generation phones. The phone just beats about everything out of the expo. Only thing getting to me is that the expo's fingerprint scanner doubled as a trackpad (would've been nice to have for editing text's)

This pretty much summed it up
I think this is a situation that there is not enough tangible usage of a dual core for majority of people. Most of people wont notice any improvements in UI speed. We need evolution of software just like in iOS that despite this same architecture people could understand what the new software is bring them.
It feels a bit like a premature technology and we are all living dreaming of tomorrow while we are beta testing for Motorola/Samsung/HTC.
Just 2 cents.
Believe what you want but I love the Atrix. Had a captivate and it doesn't compare. My phone has never rebooted or lagged- I don't know what others do to theirs but my phone is rock solid.

I'm lovin mine all around. For people who return it because of locked bootloader, I'd say that you knew that when you bought it if it's a dealbreaker.
The webtop dock alone has made this phone exceed the hype. All thanks to the devs
You guys rock

i have a nexus one and now and atrix and have had it for about a week and i love it. It works great, no random reboots or anything ... just smooth sailing.
I know i can not customize it like I could my N1 but I think that day will come in time. I'll wait ...
Yes, it lived up to the hype in my opinion.
Came from Nexus One. Love the Atrix. It fast and solidly built. Im not sure why everyone said motorblur slow the phone down. I use ADW launcher and it scream.
The Atrix doesn't live up to the Best of CES 2011 hype. The locked bootloader, 1080p "coming soon" recording, overpriced lapdock, overpriced multimedia dock, and good-but-not-great screen keep it from living up to the incredible hype it garnered when it was announced.
Your poll is worded slightly differently: Was the Atrix worth it?
I just came from an ancient Iphone 3g, so the Atrix is absolutely amazing in pretty much every way compared to it and finally getting to use my upgrade was absolutely worth it!
I originally tried out a Captivate for about a week back when I first came up for an upgrade last november. It kept turning itself off (not sleep, total shutdown so I wouldn't receive calls, txt, email ect.) which was a deal breaker. The useless GPS didn't help it's case either. Screen was gorgeous, speed was decent, build quality was ok, battery life was ok. Anyways, I sent the Captivate back after a week, I couldn't have a phone that didn't take phone calls.
First and foremost I love the speed. This thing is lightning fast and seems to have horsepower to burn under the hood. Second is the battery life, I get home from work most of the time with over 40% battery power remaining which is absolutely astounding, my iphone couldn't make it through a full day without getting some juice at my desk and while the captivate did, it was usually at 10-15%. I'm also using the Atrix more than either of the others because I don't feel like I have to conserve battery power to make it through the day.
After those two big features, there are a bunch of less important things that I like:
Finger print scanner is great, I can unlock the phone without even looking at it. I know this doesn't sound important, but it's surprisingly useful when I'm just trying to pull information off my phone quickly and can have it already unlocked as I'm pulling it out of my pocket.
GPS is the best I've experienced on a phone, and better than some dedicated GPS units I've had the displeasure to work with.
Build quality (contrary to some reports I've read) is quite good imo. The phone itself is very sturdy feeling when held by the sides. The back cover is a bit flimsy, but it is also what convinced me to skip getting a case for the Atrix, if it gets scratched I'll just get a new back.
Gorilla Glass is not glued to LCD. Should keep repair costs down.
HDMI out is great, webtop with working firefox extensions is awesome.
Some good, some bad:
Screen resolution is good (colors not so much). The auto-brightness seems to be set a little low imho. I only notice a pentile effect on particularly small+thin fonts.
Camera is surprisingly good in low-light and indoor conditions. Not especially great overall though, tint seems a little off. May just need to set up a custom photoshop filter to correct it.
Call quality is good in quiet conditions, very clear reception and a detailed microphone. Not so good in noisy or windy conditions, the mic picks up a lot of extraneous noise, people are often asking me what's going on or where I am now based on background noise.
I haven't had much reason to use the front facing camera...frankly with AT&T's network I think video chat is a gimmick more than anything else.
I wonder about the finger print scanner/button longevity.
I wouldn't necessarily say the Atrix is the best phone around, but it was the best phone that fit my requirements (ATT, asap, batt life, fast) and so far I like it a lot.
Running ADW Launcher and really like the Advanced Clock widget.
I took mine back and have the Nexus 1 now; I liked the speed but for the most part, my 2.3.3 phone is about as fast; the main thing slowing these phones down now is the network speeds anyway.
If I'm on a wifi network, they're all pretty much the same speed.
Living up to the hype? Definitely not. There are a lot of small problems with this phone that a lot of people don't like; to me, it feels slightly rushed.
I came from an iPhone 4 and I haven't missed the iPhone experience yet. I started with the HTC Inspire which is a nice phone but the battery is rotten and the volume from the phone was pathetic. The Atrix has been an awesome phone for me. It has pretty good battery life so far and yes there are no truly custom ROMs but Adeo (REDUX) has made the UI lag go away on my end and I know others have said the same thing. I am loving the experience of this phone.
Just know that anytime you get a phone shortly after a better one will come out. It's all user preference and what you want and what you think is important. I'm happy but guy x may not be happy. So use one and if you don't like it don't keep it.
I went from a HTC Fuze directly to the Atrix. I love it. (almost) Everything about it. I have played with the Inspire and a couple other 2.1/2.2 devices (girlfriends captivate) and this thing stomps the crap out of them. The colors are just a little off, but that's probably just me going for an extreme upgrade from the phone I had before.
The *ONLY* gripe I have about it is the locked HSUPA. But with all good things come some bad, I think I'm gonna stick it out with the Atrix. Not only that but Spectral Souls looks amazing on it
Guys, please, help me to make a right decision.
Is it possible to buy AT&T version of Motorola Atrix and use it outside US? Is it simple to unlock it? Or where do you recommend to purchase unlocked phone.
P.$.: does motorola have any plans to upgrade it 2.3/3.1 in the future? As I know it's not the trivial to customize firmware for motorola phones (my old G1 can be customized without any problems).
Thanks a lot.
The phone is great nuff said.... We are all a bit too picky but for what its worth this is really the only phone out right now that can take down the iphone 4. My iphone 4 has just been sitting on my night table since I got the Atrix. Atrix has so much more potential and the Android os is so much more pleasing than iIS. Once the bootloader gets cracked its game over!

I typically do not post raves, but this time I have to rave about the Transformer. This is what everyone that try's to do an android tablet should be making. I got the Gtab last fall and did all the moding to get a usable tablet. Worked pretty good I had to say. Until now. The TF is outstanding. I had the pleasure of quieting a couple friends with iPads on Friday. The TF tore through internet pages, video on Youtube and anything else they could challenge me with.
I have been a fan of Asus for awhile and will continue to praise their product.
FYI, buy from a reputable vendor and you wont have the headaches.
Yeah this thing is amazing. I remember watching a reviews before I ordered it, saying the back felt cheap because it had a strange pattern but it feels so nice, and of course, doesn't scratch!
+1 had to go show it to my old boss the ultimate apple product fanboy, he looked for a bit, then quickly found a reason not to talk to me anymore normally he would argue with me about how apple is far superior, there is no argument that really holds water in the ipad vs eeepad shootout
I completely agree. After I messed around with most tablets out there. (Xoom, Iconia, iPad 1 and 2, etc...) I finally settled on the TF and I do not regret a thing. I absolutely love the little guy. The transformer is easily my favorite tablet and product that I've purchased from ASUS.
Almost a year ago Asus was showing off that 12 inch win7 tablet/laptop/transformer, and I wanted it so bad back then...
Januari this year I bought the Toshiba Folio 100, and after modding it, it does work very well imo... But when I walked through a MediaMarkt XL store (just to look aroudn and play around with some stuff), I saw this transformer, and I knew I was going to buy it, but I wanted to make sure it really was what it looked like... so I read and watched a lot of reviews, and bought it the next day!
It's so nice that I even leave my 15" HP ProBook at home most of the time!
(The wallpaper is a live video wallpaper)
I have to agree on that.
The Transformer is a very well done and smartly design product.
Kudo's to asus !
The keyboard integration is so good that i'm using the tablet almost exclusivly with the dock.
It's light, easy to use, the trackpad is awesome, the connectivity is top notch and the battery life is....well it's basicly the longest battery life there is in any device. Want to use it all day long in your garden downloading movie, watching them and browsing internet while chatting with friend ? You can ! This thing just can't run out of juice !
Gratz Asus! Waiting for you to roll out Ice cream as soon as you can.
Same here, Kudos to Asus! I'm moving on close to 2 months since the release and couldn't be happier...no problems. And, oh so, glad I got the dock/keyboard that really makes it unique and above the rest.
And please with all the card slots, etc. it offers that others don't. Also, pretty impressed that they rolled out the new update in a timely fashion for 3.1, while it looks like other tablets were waiting.
Guess that's why it's reported Asus Transformer is best selling android tablet!
I'm a happy customer and use it every day, all day long most time with a great battery life between it and my keyboard.
I must say that I'm also very pleased with the TF101. There have been lots of other posts/threads which slam them for the light bleed, non-working issues, etc., but really, I think ASUS has done a great job considering that it's their first foray into Android, AND they come with a product that no one else offers (dock functionality). It takes a hell of a lot of QA to make sure that it's ready for production, and despite myself having to return a faulty dock, I also give Kudos to them.
In fact, as I was reporting on my faulty dock issue a while ago, I received a PM from ASUS themselves! They offered to exchange my complete setup for a brand new one (dock, tablet, cables, etc.), however I declined because everything is working great for me once exchanging my faulty dock at the store I purchased it from.
Getting that message and noting that ASUS themselves are watching these boards, as they know we have a great passion for 'pimping out' devices gives me another great feeling.
Has anyone else been in contact by ASUS on XDA?
Regardless, yes. Kudos to you ASUS!
I, too, love my Transformer plus dock. Mine has no light bleed, no creaking, no problems at all. And I'm a total n00b when it comes to Android, but by reading the manual and the helpful advice here and another forum, I've gotten most or all of my questions answered. If even a beginner like me can feel comfortable, Asus has hit it out of the park.

Review units are usually from pre-production or 1st production runs, and almost always have disclaimers that they are pre-prodution run review units. It also explains some of the early units that appear on the market having some QA issues.
I have a B05 UK model, and have none of the problems mentioned, it's got fantastic build quality, and my Apple loving boss has last week sold his ipad2 and bought one too after seeing mine+dock.
The days of Apple ruling the roost are long gone, you can get better and cheaper buy buying non-Apple these days. My phone is a HTC that's WAY better than anything Apple make, my tablet is an Asus and ditto....
My tab definitely feels solid too. I don't get all the "cheap" complaints because mine has been just fine and dandy. I do have a little bit of light bleed but it's really only visible when the entire screen is black, and honestly, it's something I can overlook. Just a minor annoyance, and I'll take dealing with it given the price
<3 the TF!
Have to agree pretty much with all the previous posts here. Have read most all the other posts of complaints and honestly while some were bonafide issues I rather felt some were suffering from too high expectations. My TF is quite probably from the initial release go-round and pretty much has been fine. A few annoyances? Sure. The dock battery drain is troublesome as is the charger (email to Asus was NEVER even acknowledged sad to say) but hoping future software fixes will be forthcoming.
Overall, I'm pleased and impressed.

well I can't tell if I have any light bleeding... I've ran several dead pixel and light bleeding test programs and all of the colors of 100 percent solid. My settings screen and my browser bookmark page look like they have light bleed but several people have told me that is by design.

I am very satisfied as well. I also have the keyboard version and it's not only usefull when writing longer texts (e.g. emails) but it gives the extra boost in battery life which is very welcomed!
I'm definitely not selling mine!
I'm thrilled with almost everything about it.
I also own an iPad and can comment without bias. The TF is better in nearly every way (especially the OS). The one area I think the iPad wins is the structural strength. It just feels tougher. I do like the really simple design but unfortunately apple let that spill over into every facet of the device.
TF for the win (especially with prime! 1.5)

My cousin, a huge apple fan boy, talked trash about my tablet for a while. Then he came over the shoot pool with me yesterday, and he saw my tablet with the keyboard dock, and he was like on nice you got a new netbook? I guess your tablet was not enough.
I told him this is my tablet and then showed him how it works, he was like Sh!t, why cant apple do cool stuff like that!!
"Android" steals the best stuff, and improves on it" I had to laugh at him.

Rational arguments favoring the iPad 2 would include build quality, form factor (half as thick and also lighter), resale value, screen quality (brighter at max, dimmer at min, less reflective), performance (iPad's PowerVR crushes Tegra 2, no problems with 720p h.264 and iOS 5 has no problems even with 1080p h.264 whereas my TF cannot currently decode 720p acceptably, negating for me the advantage of the 16:10 screen). Also consider O/S maturity and reliability (most obviously the default Honeycomb launcher+browser are junk although ADW+Opera are much better, if buggy), the development tools (the Android emulator in particular is laughable - the iPad emulator in XCode is literally ~100x faster), app selection (Netflix an obvious example, there are thousands more), app quality (same app on both platforms is almost always inferior on TF) - in fact I don't see Android app performance ever approaching iOS here on similar hardware due to the overhead imposed by the Dalvik VM. Also, iTunes movies, TV shows, audiobooks etc. are one click away (although you have to pay for them vs torrents/Handbrake etc). Maybe if I had I non-rooted non-wifi-only Xoom I could try Google movies - I wouldn't known since I have an Asus TF and it has not been white-listed yet (BTW this kind of will-it-install/run/work roulette would not fly on the iTunes store). AirPlay, AirPrint and Home Sharing also 'Just Works.'.
I guess none of these arguments 'hold water' to you but if Google, OEMs like Asus and users rationalize away these things I think you can pretty much kiss this platform goodbye.
... which would be unfortunate because the Transformer's advantages are not insignificant - for $100 less (32GB vs 32GB) I get the MicroSD slot (plus SD with the dock) which gives me 64gb swappable storage in addition to the 32gb onboard (vs 64gb total on iPad), Apple's 'walled garden' is breached so I can install 3rd party keyboards, cloud-based music players, launchers, widgets etc. I also don't have to worry about Apple yanking the Kindle app etc for not paying the tithe etc.
Considering getting the Skyrocket on AT&T ... looking for experts opinions on the best Android device currently available or soon to be available for AT&T.
I had my choice of all of them, and the Skyrocket was by far the best.
The LG Nitro is an LG, plain and simple. Gorgeous but unresponsive screen, laggy, no dev support, gets blisteringly hot.
The Vivid's dev was stunted due to an originally locked bootloader (they couldnt even get root permanently), and in my opinion it has a really heavy, clunky frame.
The Skyrocket has some screen issues so make sure you get a good one, but it's the easy choice (to me). The Nokia Ace (WP7.5) is coming soon, as is the Sony Xperia super-phone. I'm looking to the Xperia in February, but if you don't want to wait that long...
Thanks going to go with the White Skyrocket and see what comes next.
Someone said that there was a way to get CM9 to work with the Skyrocket.
Wait a week and see what comes out of CES

Unresponsive screen? You're crazy, I have NEVER experienced whatever it is you call an unresponsive screen.
Lag? The "lag" on my nitro is so minimal I only notice it in extreme circumstances. Once we get hardware acceleration from ICS, I expect that to dissapear for the most part.
No dev support? The ball is rolling, my guess is that we are days away from CWM. We had perma-root on day 1.
Blistering hot? This phone gets no hotter than any other high-spec smartphone I've seen as of late, mine has never gotten too hot to handle. The hottest I've ever noticed is when playing Homerun Battle 3d while plugged in with setcpu set to always stay at full speed.
The biggest drawback is battery life. But it seems that all 720p phone(including the GN) are having this issue. With tweaks I get from 8am to 10pm EASILY with medium usage. I also carry a spare battery in my wallet.
The thing is, you don't see me or any other Nitro user bashing on other AT&T phones just to satisfy some urge to feel I am superior. Head on over to the Nitro HD forum and have a look.
Yeah no need to bash on other Android phones. Now bashing on Apple phones, well....
Ha, true that...
Sorry for the rant, I just reread that post and it does have some unnecessary 'tude. I will say that I really have no opinion or allegiance to LG, Samsung or whatever, a corp is a corp.
After all, it wasn't so long ago that people said about Samsung Android phones ", The Samsung is a Samsung, plain and simple."
I'm gonna edit out the first line.

OK, so... the complaints of unresponsive screens and lag that are all over the Nitro forums are what, exactly? If you go to a store and demo the phone, you experience it as well, and I'm NOT talking about the phones on the wall that are running the demo software. The same issues were there with the Thrill, though the Nitro improves on it a bit. As for getting hot, I've held a few while charging/in use, and it got HOT. Hotter than comfortable, and far hotter than other phones.
As for dev support: You've had root since day one, great. There's pretty much nothing else, after a month of release. It's not selling well in stores, and there are no major devs even giving this a try. At least when the Thrill came out, you had one of the CM team and gtg465x plugging away at some form of progress. Seems like this is going even slower than the Vivid, and that had a locked Bootloader hindering its progress.
I'm not sure why you're getting so upset, to be honest. It's a phone, with major flaws, made by a company RENOWNED for putting out phones with major flaws. It's also a company RENOWNED for nonexistant software updates, so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for ICS. Just ask the Thrill people who were promised GB a month after release, and I'm pretty sure they're STILL waiting for the update. So yeah, still not sure why you're getting so upset.
Touchwiz sucks. Go for the vivid, sense is silky smooth with the increased RAM and has a lot more polish and features than touchwiz. Plus, the skyrocket has tons of screen issues.

Honestly, I dont like any of the current LTE selection ATM mainly because I hate Qualcomm Snapdragon CPUs on android (most underperforming of any dual core in real world use)
But the least crappy of the three would be the Skyrocket imo
My advice dont get any att phone specially lg you wont have any dev support and you wont get any updates att the worst provider ever

I'm actually waiting for the Sony Ion since I do not like any of At & t's offering for their LTE phones as of current moment.
i'll go for the Samsung NOTES LTE if i were crazy enough to use AT&T
.

Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
If you want 720p, get the LG Nitro HD. Using a different launcher removes lag. I use SPB Shell 3D and I haven't really had any lag since I downloaded it. Only lag comes from zooming on the internet but it isn't horrible. It does get kind of hot, but I use a case, and it's not burning or anything. Just noticeable. The battery life starts out awful but strangely over a month or so ends up going all the way up to above average. I get 6AM to 11PM easy, with a good amount left over. The only problems are lack of dev support, temperature, messed up compass, and the stock launcher.
If you don't care about resolution I'd get the HTC Vivid, but the Skyrocket is fine too. Sense is great, the phone looks and feels better, and the resolution is higher.
The Galaxy Note comes out this week so you go just wait for that. Skyrocket is an awesome phone too though. Got to compare the too along with the Galaxy Nexus at CES this year and you really couldn't go wrong with either of the three. Although, I like the Galaxy Note the most because of it's size. Looks like you are holding a tablet up to your face when you are on the phone.

Well for half the price of the Skyrocket II, the Vivid still is a great competitor. It isn't as fast but like one of the guys said above me, Sense is silky smooth. It's pretty thin but still huge to carry around. Personally, since I have big hands this bodes well for me. The display is really clear and, no pun intended, vivid. The battery seems to last me through the day, and that is with quite a bit of browsing, texting, and using a somewhat bright setting. That's with the stock battery. I have had no problems with the touchscreen so for me this is a fantastic phone. Comes with Gingerbread 2.3.4
Speed: 8/10
Display: 10/10
Battery: 8/10
Durability: 9/10
Camera: 9/10
Overall: 9/10
Every time I ran speed test on Skyrocket and Vivid, side by side at local at&t stores here in Austin, the Vivid was significantly faster.
I have the previous model of the Nexus 7.
I'm reluctant to upgrade because I read that the back grip isn't as nice and it has more of a plasticy feel.
Additionally I'd like to see if they're going to release a 64GB model.
What do you think of the new model? What are your impressions compared to the previous model?
Please only answer if you upgraded from the previous model.

Well I did and the upgrade is worth it if you use your 1st gen a lot and love it . It is a great deal just for the bump in screen quality and speed. Plus old models still sell at a good price on ebay. Although the first gen was by no means slow, I feel this little thing is the fastest android device I have experienced.
I think I will trade this one to get a LTE model. And that takes me to my main gripe. The second gen feels more on the side of a Galaxy Note phone than in competition with an ipad mini so I am confused because I also want a Note 3!
BTW, dont worry about how it feels , IMHO the 2nd gen feels A LOT more high quality than the first gen, it feels PREMIUM not a premium wanna be like the 2012 model.

hmm, well that's good to know!!
only thing, what do you mean by "feels more on the side of"? As is physical touch? Or what?
Thanks for your input.
Only thing, I wish there was 64GB model, and I might also wait for the LTE..
Got $120 for my 1st gen on eBay and paid $199 at staples with $30 off coupon. And it's a beautiful little tablet, waaaaaaayy better than the 1st gen.

Honestly after 4.3 on 2012 nexus 7 I think its kind of a toss up. There are nice improvements but really only incremental from the 2012. If I didn't want to upgrade from 16gb to 32gb I would probably still have my 2012. Yes the screen is awesome and it does feel nicer in the hand but otherwise its not a big change imo.
i upgraded as well.
i dont think there will be a 64gb version.
I am impressed with the improvements. The screen is way better. Its smoother (the old one was smooth also, but lagged sometimes), i get no lag in chrome. i have had no reboots or freezes. The rear camera is decent. I only use it for scanning. The thinness is great as well. Much easier to hold in one hand. And the led is a good improvement as well.
Things that i think can make it a perfect device, but was not a deciding factor for me:
flash for the rear camera
make the led multi color
These two things would give it a solid 10. So for now, i give it a 9.8
I have owned a xoom, infinite and the previous nexus 7, and this is by far the best and smoothest tablet i have owned.
I rooted it, but kept it stock. I dont think there is a need for a custom rom.
Upgraded from the 2012 32gb model to the current 2013 32gb model.
The difference is huge. The most noticeable difference is the screen, it's just a thousand times better in every way than the original N7. Overall the machine is way faster, has wireless charging built-in, way better 3D graphics, is lighter, is thinner, is narrower so it's now easy to hold with one hand, has a passable camera, actually has stereo speakers you can hear and just feels better in the hands generally.
I upgraded, with the 20% off web coupon at Office Depot I only paid $195 after tax, sold my old one for 140. Kind of a no-brainer, eh? It feels at least better and often much better in every category. I never find myself thinking the old one was as good or better at anything. Period. So it's a big upgrade across the board. And if you can get as decent amount of cash for your old one, I'd say jump the hell in! But after using it, I decided that even had a simply given my old one to Mom, it STILL would have felt worth it to me paying full price. But this last bit is subjective and YRMV.

+1 :good:
Yea love it. Great upgrade on everything across the board.
I had 2 N7 I sold for $150 a piece. One was free and acquired through a job I did that went unused. Easy decision.

Concerning the back grip, I would have to admit that I personally prefer the grip of the 2012 model. Even now, if I hold both in my hands, the old grip feels better to me. At first, I did think the new tablet felt cheaper when I took it out of the box. But after having used it for a couple weeks, I don't think that anymore. The lighter weight is actually helpful, making the new tablet just a little easier to hold in one hand, and overall it does feel like a high quality tablet. The experience of using the tablet really is vastly improved, even though the updates seem to be mostly incremental.
I really liked the 1st generation nexus. The development community has made that little device a useful little machine. I didn't like the minor upgrades to the processor. They should have put in a snapdragon 600 or 800. Why go with the s4 pro ; o ;. If they did that, this would truly be a next generation device.

That's kind of a paper complaint. The new version smokes the crap out of the old one, and practically every other Android device on the market. So it's fast way fast. Just because the processor's name is the wrong one for you means very little.

It's brighter, prettier, smoother, and IMO the best 7" tablet on the market
That said, it's even more fragile than its predecessor. I found mine to have a minor hairline fracture down the center of the screen and as a result The entire device is now worthless
ASUS of course is doing nothing except offering a repair for the price of fracking $208 USD!!!
As an early adopter, I was still waiting on my case- it should be in tomorrow.
I may just save up and replace it with a Samsung Galaxy Tab. I'm so angry I could scream; if I had dropped it that would be one thing but I did nothing of the sort. It was fine one moment and I pull it out of my pocket and set it on the curb when I notice the screen wasn't working properly. I hold it up to the light and see this tiny hairline fracture and a few similarly sized cracks by the notification LED.
I am willing to sell it to someone that wants to use it with OTG/USB-Host, it is rooted and running TWRP and ElementalX 0.8 kernel if anyone is interested. I also have an original Nexus 7 that has that support through PA 3.15 and franco,Kernel.
Bottom line: A $230 tablet costs far more than $230 even if you are extremely careful. These things are more fragile than any device I have ever owned (and I used to have an HTC First!).
