heya
i just got a new SD card, 32gb class 10 and i think it might be defective.
when i put it into the phone and start SD tools to test speed (mnt/extSdCard) which WORK Swith another SD
here at first it tried to scan and said "error" (again, this works with another SD) and sometimes it fails to mount and says "invalid path" (same path)
not sure waht to do
i put it in my laptop (which was also problematic at first) and format it to exFAT 32 unit size but still, no go..
what am i doing wrong?
EDIT:
i now ran format via the s4 itself, it ran the test once, got a 2.4 write speed and 8.9 read, isnt that super slow for class 10? also after first test it fails to run another

Hi all.
I have a 16gb micro sd card class 2 (sandisk).
Yesterday the message "damaged sd card" came on my notification bar.
I tried to format the card but i got no luck. With every i use i got errors (gparted, windows native tool, ubuntu disk manager).
So i bought a 8gb micro sd card class 4 (maxell) for replacement.
Sadly my htc legend doesn't accept this card neither...same message.
This time i'm sure the card is ok...because it works fine on any PC/Device i tried (including my girlfriend's samsung spica).
At first i though i might got an usb brick...so tried
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
with no luck...then i tried flashing another rom (aliba's Cyanogen 6.1, SuperBler V4)...same behaviour.
with dispair I took my girlfriend's 2gb microsd (sandisk) and tried this time with success!!
So 2 gb sdcard works.
8 gb not.
what do you suggest, crappy new sd card? or my phone got problems with sdhc?
What's brought all the old devs back?!
I've never seen that kind of behavior before... Hmm...

errors bring us here!
I can add one more to the solving puzzle:
in recovery (S-OFF) i can mount the card but while coping/reading it gives me I/O errors and than i have to reboot recovery to let it read some more (till a next I/O error...)
!!!
I'm Experiencing the same proplem. Yesterday I got the same error message "Damage SD card" I cant go into clockwork recovery mode to format SD card, I get the E:faliled to open/Sdcard/update.zip(no such file or directory). Its a 4GB Sd card and Im running CyanogenMod-7.0.0.-RC0-Legend-Kang....

I'm waiting to try a different SDHC card. I think it's related to bad quality sdhc.
I was able to format the SD card via PC recoverywindows.bat...so far no problems but who knows maybe in a near future I will probably get the DAmage SD card message again.
I had the exact same thing myself a while back. Although it probably won't help you, I took it out and cleaned the contacts (no doubt superfluous but you have to try everything, right?) and put it back in (twice), and it worked. It's been running fine for months now
I followed all the online instructions for getting CM7 on a little Class 2 4GB SD card, it works great but seems a bit slow.
I got a Class 4 8GB SD card, it shows up as a Ricoh branded in windows if that matters.
It takes the generic SD img and I can copy the CM7 zip file onto it just like I did the first time.
For some reason, on first boot, when the CM7 setup starts extracting and setting up partitions it starts a string of IO errors and they just stream past. It eventually finishes with numerous errors but even if I delete the partition and start over fresh it does it every time.
Is it possible that I just picked a bad brand or am I doing something wrong? I am doing everything exactly how Idid the first time so the only diff is this brand new card is supposed to be twice as fast and twice as big.
If you did the first time correctly, I then trust you on your 2nd time.
As for uSD itself, try Sandisk (i have Transcend and it ok)
Hi all. So I'm pretty new to this whole nook color thing. I have been trying to follow the instructions to install CM7 to a microsd card (Sandisk, class 4, 4gb) but I don't seem to be having much success, as I'm getting a strange error when the install process is being run.
Here's what I've done:
1. Put microsd card into adapter and insert into the card reader in my laptop. Write the generic SD image to the card with winimage32
2. Re-size the boot partition from ~100mb to 1.5gb using Easus partition master.
3. Paste over the update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip file.
4. Eject card, remove from computer
5. insert microsd card into NC. Start up. I get a "...loading" without the CM logo, and then it starts to run through the install. During the install, I frequently get this error:
I/O error, dev mmcb1k1, sector [x] where [x] represents a bunch of different sectors (seriously it scrolls through a huge list)
I also sometimes see:
mmcb1k1, error -110 transferring data
It does a lot of inflating of files, gives me more of those errors, does some more inflating, and eventually concludes the install and shuts down the NC.
When I start the NC again I get the cyanogen logo, with "...loading," the screen briefly flashes, and then nothing. The NC screen is on, but it doesn't display anything.
So what am I doing wrong?? I'm very confused at this point.
I believe this is not your fault. (You are certainly not alone)
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297738.
Try again using an old Class-2 uSDHC card. If it is not marked, it is class-2.
If that works please let us know.
I'm going to try installing one more time, then run out to Microcenter to pick up a replacement card. Any suggestion on how I identify a class-2 card that would work to pick up?
PNY 2GB with no class marking from Sears worked for me.
On the back of the packaging above the bar code P-SDU2GB-EF

Get a usb adapter for writing to your microsd. I was having all kinds of errors
with new sandisk cards using the same method you are, then after changing to the
usb adapter they all are working.

Sooo I went to Microcenter and bought an unmarked Sandisk 2gb card (I'm assuming its class 2, though I don't know for sure). Installed CM7 on the first try. I'm not sure what is going on with the Sandisk class 4 4gb card, but I think there's an issue with it...
Excellent news.
You might be interested to know that I have just managed to clone 7.1.0 Release onto a SanDisk 4GB - see the related thread mentioned above for details.
Thanks for the update
a. Completely reformat your 4GB uSD.
b. Redo step 1 above with Win32DiskImager, using old version.
c. You can ignore your step 2 above.
d. Follow your steps
hello, so after recently using WP7, I've found myself unable to use my SD Card
Windows doesn't recognize it (That sd card formatting tool that's in several stickies, DISKPART, device manager, etc.) (I've also used 2 MicroSD -> SD Card adapters in an attempt to fix)
my phone doesn't recognize it (WP7 will use it) (Magldr says it clears the MBR, and I've reinstalled WP7 in an attempt to use the sd formatting tool, but no avail, and CWM fails to recognize it)
I've also installed busy box on my phone and tried to fdisk it, I plugged a 1GB microsd card I have into the phone while in android, used 'mount' got the /dev/ location of the sdcard (/dev/block/void/179:1) and swapped cards, but it won't open the stock 16GB
any ideas XDA?

I had this Problem one time too. My Solution was to put the 16GB Mirco-SD Card inside the SD-Adapter. After that i plug this SD-Card inside my Digital-Camera ( Powershot G7 ) and make a "Deep Format". After that, everything works fine...
Maybe this helps!
Happy Christmas,
Michael
Thanks for the tip, I've tried it on one camera but it was a rather crappy one and it just froze the camera o.o
going to try with my nicer camera when I get home
--edit--
eek. tried it on a PowerShot Aesomething and it jsut said memory card error and greyed out the format button, might be time for a new card, oh well, I could go for a higher class on android since it lags my apps a bit
hello...here's my problem:
I just purchased a 64gb sandisk sd card and it doesn't not work...
more specifically:
1) whenever i re-insert the sd card, it shows "blank sd card, need format" (ONLY if i formatted the sd using my pc before i insert it back)
2) i tried to format to exFat and FAT32 through my pc, it works..but when i insert it back, it's gonna show either "blank" or not able to read any files that i copied to it.
3) when i connect it (inserted to the phone), i cant move a large number of files, it's either gonna disconnect or some errors.
4) i notice whenever i managed to copy all my files to sd, after reboot, it's gonna show "blank sd" again.
5) i also try copying the files to the phone first and then move them later using phone's application, but when i wanna use those files, it's not usable.
6) i think sometimes it deletes all the files that i moved from phone to sd card.
Please help! any suggestion will do...ihv been looking for answers in this forum for like 3 hours.
(English is not my first language so bear with me)
do not use sandisk 64g, mine got file not found at random, using 32g is fine
As mentioned sandisk has gone downhill...Ive had issues with them also. That said it sounds like your card is no good. Return It if you can
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using xda premium
If you can return it--recommend the Samsung 64gb Class 10 on Amazon
ZERO issues and pretty fast
Did you try to format it with your phone ? not PC.
Because i also have Sandisk 64GB micro sdcard i had it since Galaxy S3 and now use it with Galaxy S4 , and have zero problem with it , it works just fine. I keep it almoust always full and even encrypted it.
