Restore Samsung Sans font after trying Font Installer app - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Downloaded Font Installer app and it works fine, just that not all applications update with the selected font which I find very annoying. I stupidly made no backup within that app itself, and nandroid doesn't work for me since I'm on MK2 4.3 (locked bootloader), so have no way of restoring a backup.
Is there anything else I can do to get Font Installer uninstalled and then have my stock fonts back available to me (specifically Samsung Sans)? I did a google and found one link where someone replaced files in the system/fonts folder, but the directions were very unclear and I'm not sure what the repercussions would be if that failed to work. Please let me know if you can help me in any way. Currently I selected Roboto in the Font Installer app and default in System settings, so now at least everything is on Roboto, but ideally I'd like to have the app uninstalled completely and get back to Samsung Sans (which is not in the Font Installer list). Thanks for the help.

Anybody? Surely I'm not the first person to ever do this?

looks like restoring from an odin image will do the trick, but that may be way too general for your situation.

I can't use mediafire at work, let me know if the link on this thread works....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2218216

Link worked, thanks. Have you tried this yet? Did you use Odin or just copy and paste/replace the files in the system/fonts folder using es file Explorer or something? Not sure what to do next, and if it even works.

Bump. Still would like someone to confirm they've done this, or offer an easier way if known. Thanks.

SystemUI.apk problem

So, as posted on the lenovo community forums, now that we have obtained root we can change the system bar icons (ie back, home, apps) back to stock by swapping out some png files.
I've successfully pulled the file and changed the files using winrar on my pc but the problem I have is putting the SystemUI.apk back into the /system/app folder where it belongs... it gives an error saying not enough free space for the move.
I'm not knowledgeable with adb to know how to use the commands to push and mount the system folder, so I've tried Root Explorer and ES File Manager both with the same problem.
In both File Managers I've had root access and mounted the folder as read/write. I also deleted a bunch of lenovo apps out of there that were much larger than the SystemUI.apk that I've been trying to replace so I don't know what else to do.
Any suggestions?
I've had similar strange problem and I only made some space by deleting so you can try to push Lenovo apps on data partitions that's several times bigger that system one.
We had managed to replace the stock status bar with the default honeycomb one on the K1:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-al...-120109-build/page__view__findpost__p__333904
**just realized that the link to the statusbar uses megaupload, will try to reupload later.
I just did this mod my tablet, no issue with the size at all.
Hey,
just messed up with my systemui.apk and now my taskbar is completely gone. I tried to backup with titanium but nothing changed -> always a forceclose message appears.
I also tried to copy and paste the file from the titanium folder manually into system/apps but still the same.
does anyone know what to do? looking forward to some answers.

ok, before blindly deleting and modifying systemfiles and consequently messing up my system again...
...is there any way to get rid of the launcher wheel in the taskbar. i just hate that wheel, hit it so often while writing with the stylus.
some suggest to hide the taskbar (e.g. honeyhide etc) but i would rather like to get rid of the wheel only.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ICS would be significantly harder to implement at this point due to no drivers etc and you'd have to port everything essentially, right?

[MOD] Windows 8 Store RTM URL trick?

Hi guys,
As Paul Thurrott has said, he used an URL trick to access the RTM Windows 8 store.
And with a bit of URL trickery, we were able to gain access to the RTM version of Windows Store

Does anyone has any idea on how to accomplish this? I tried looking in the Store folder (C:\Windows\WinStore) but couldn't find any files with URL's which can be changed.
Would be nice if we could play with the RTM store

Non-Google Emoji in Hangouts on 4.4.2 Leak?

Hello, all...
I've asked this question in the leak thread, but it moves so fast that I don't think a lot of attention is being paid to it.
So, I'll try to make it quick. When I installed Beans's pre-rooted 4.4.2 leak ROM, I realized that the emoji being displayed in Hangouts were different - not the typical Google emoji, but more similar to the emoji that you find in Go!Messenger, Handcent, and other SMS apps that support emoji.
I suspect that Samsung has included their own emoji, and had them baked into Hangouts, but I can't seem to fix it. Even by removing hangouts and installing it from the Play Store, or restoring from Titanium Backup.
When I choose to add a smiley in a Hangout... I can see them in the list... but when I pick one, it switches to some other (samsung's?) version of it in the text box, as well as the conversation. My friends see the normal one on their end... and likewise when they send me one, it shows up as the alternative.
Is anyone else seeing this issue? I'd think that I would have seen it mentioned.
I found a thread on an HTC device that advised a user with a similar issue to rename a stock font, and I tried a similar approach, with no results.
With my DPI changed to 320, I can't even tell what emoji are being used, as this new brand is much smaller than the standard ones.
This bugs me. I want the google emoji back.
Any help? Thanks!

I would love to know how to fix this as well
bump.
I've succeeded in breaking it even worse. Through some hellish combination of renaming some fonts with "emoji" in the name in /system/fonts... and using the font installer in ROM Toolbox Pro to hack things up even worse... I now just have standard non-color (black lines on background) emoji in hangouts. ugh!
Can't someone smarter than me tell me how to fix this?

Put the two .ttf files in your /system/fonts folder (backup originals if you want) and change permission to -rw-r--r--
Put the .xml file in your /system/etc folder (again, backup original if you want) and change permission to -rw-r--r--
Reboot phone, and hopefully everything works fine

I didn't like the stock emoji on the Note 3 so I decided to change it to the stock Android one. After searching online, I found that those files were the ones you need to change. I got them from a GPE system dump. The .ttf files are the stock emoji. The .xml file basically is how the fonts are prioritized (as far as I can tell) which makes the stock emoji default before the Samsung one.
Anyway, that's how I got it to work on my phone. I'm not exactly sure how/why it worked but it did for me.
has anyone else tried this, the samsun emoji are god awful??
I just used the method outlined by LoneAsp and it worked for me.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
I attempted the method described by LoneAsp and it didn't work for me. Not sure if it matters, but I'm using a Galaxy Note II on the DN3 ROM.
I downloaded Emoji Switcher (root) from the Play store and it seems to have done the trick. There are some missing icons, however, and I'm not sure if the author will be updating this app to use the updated font files anytime soon.

I should have updated my OP... but I used Emoji Switcher to fix this problem, as well. I used the Samsung ones for a while... and I'm currently on the default Google ones. (The samsung ones include a few awkward-looking ones. Kind of creepy. lol) I haven't noticed any missing icons. Which ones are missing?
With my modified DPI (changed to 320 from 480)... the icons were so small that they weren't fun to use or receive... so I used an xposed module, App Settings, to change the font scale to 200%. This makes longer messages kind of a chore, but overall I'm glad the text is so much bigger. The emoji are much better, that's for sure.
Speaking of Hangouts and xposed modules... I also recommend "Stickers for Hangouts" which enables "add sticker" and "add drawing" to your attachment options in Hangouts. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quinny898.app.stickersforhangouts
Until now... "stickers" were only an option in the iOS version of Hangouts. Does that make sense? (answer: no)
Thanks LoneAsp!!

installing older version of app over new one

hi. i am currently on nameless v7 5.1.1 rom. very happy so far. the only problem im having is i cant seem to install app downgrades without uninstalling the app itself. one example is instagram. im on 7.22 and want to go back to 7.20 but when i try to install it over current one it says app not installed. same thing with whats app. i previously was on kyuubi the last rom and was able to do this fine. so what can i do to make it work again as its a hassle because i end up loosing a lot of data if i have to uninstall an app then install another version ot it. the kernel im on is nameless too. if anyone can help id greatly appreciate it thanks.
bump?
install xposed and XInstaller Xposed module, it will let you install older version of apps without uninstalling them.
You first need to remove the app. If for some reason it was put into the rom as a system app you need to use one of the apps from the Play Store that can delete these (with root).
The part that they fail to mention is that you need to reboot the phone after deleting the app, otherwise the OS thinks the app is still installed. After reboot, you should be able to install the downgrade.
Alternatively if you have TWRP or similar recovery, you can go into the File Manager in the recovery and go to /data/app/ and delete the folder of the offending app and reboot.
---------- Post added at 09:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 PM ----------
You can also delete it from the rom's zip file so it doesn't install it at all - just go into the zip file and delete what you want from system/app in the zip file before you flash.

Restore deleted app (qualcomm/sprint) on rooted phone?

Hello there, hope everyone's alright
While uninstalling bloatware I mistakenly deleted my android's file manager (File 7.1.1 com.android.documentsui).
I can't reinstall it via adb because the versions I download don't match the signature of the allegedly deleted file.
Is there a way in which I can absolutely remove every trace in order to have it accept the new apk, or that being impossible, to restore the former file?
Alternatively, could anyone that has the same model/rom extract the app file and upload it for me, or would it clash as well with the signature?
Thanks in advance!
just install a root file browser like mixplorer and drop(copy) the .apk file back into /root/system/priv-apps folder and reboot
it will automatically be installed as system apk and work ....

You probably need the libs. Or the OAT folder. Or the permissions may be wrong.
Here you go. I'll attach screenshot of permissions as well.
It's not a flashable zip, just extract the files and place in system/privapp in a folder (name it DocumentsUI) and set permissions.
You cannot just install it like a regular app. You have to manually place the files

After that I tried opening the apk on the privapp folder from mixplorer, and it says it's corrupted.

ADB is trying to install it as a user app which I said you can't do. Just place the APK and the oat folder in there. Make sure the permissions of the APK and the odex all match the rest of the files in the privapp folder and reboot. Don't forget to reboot that's very important.
You need all folders. Folder named oat, and in that, a folder named arm. Put odex in there. Make sure all permissions match others in priv app (even the oat and arm folders). Reboot.

Did you delete anything other than document ui? Debloating doesn't mean randomly delete system apps. Some things are needed for Android to function.

Made sure to have everything with the proper permissions, still, no luck.
The other apps that I deleted were either sprint and amazon crap, or google games/videos/music and youtube. This one I mistakenly got rid off because it was labeled as "Downloads" and looked kinda like one of those other unnecessary google apps. In hindsight I should have backed up everything; got too cocky for my own good.
Is there some system-wide checkup that can be performed to make sure nothing else of importance is missing, or at this point is it better to give up and reinstall the rom/factory reset?

Sorry for taking so long, I was out of the house.
While the app appears as Downloads in the app browser, on the properties it's listed as Files 7.1.1 aka documentsUI, the same you uploaded for me.
The main gripe with all of these, is that I can't install or update apps via playstore. They start the download process and get stuck in a loop there, never actually beginning the download in itself, in case it helps as a clue.

Try clearing app data for download manager. Also clear cache for playstore. Sometimes you have to clear data for playstore as well. Pretty common problem. Clearing data for those usually works. Some ppl have had to clear data for play services as well.

I just checked, and I am indeed missing as well the downloadprovider apk+odex. It's probably the missing piece. I'm honestly ashamed of asking further help from you at this point because of how patient you've been, but if you can upload that one for me, it's probably all it'll take to finally close this up. I tried with other versions from the net but they didn't work.
