Android.KK4.4.2 RAM Usage & Power - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
one of the bad things so far about Galaxy devices is RAM usage and ability to free memory.
But stock Android 4.4.2 comes with RAM management feature;
Project Svelte
and also with power management for sensors that is so necessary for galaxy device;
Low Power Sensors
Now its important that how Samsung Galaxy Developers used these 2 project to boost up their product & of course Galaxy Note3
please write about your galaxy kitkat experiences...

Does Android 4.4.2 of* Galaxy Boost-up your phone performance?

Any experience?
Do you like performance of galaxy KitKat?
Did you test AnTuTu on 4.4.2 ??

I got a 36 + 38K score from Antutu when I freshly flashed. Yesterday I got 29K.
Phone feels smoother, it's the little things, noticeable differences? slight.

Antutu from kit kat got 36k ish. Previously using x note 7.0 with civz kernel get near 38k.
well no choice now since I'm on new bootloader
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I got Antutu 36512 fully stock 4.3, so it seems kitkat not much better and I'm sure I could push it much higher with tweaks not available yet for new 4.42.

So far initial tests and reports;
Boost Performance
better RAM management
more Stability
for SM-N900 and before it for N9005

Possible to install wakelock detector then charge full. After that let phone idle for 1 to 3 hrs. Then check what's waking it up.

I run trinity kernel on my Gnex and N7 and on my N7 I keep it stock speeds because I've seen no reason to realistically OC it. Most of the improvements I see are from the kernel software changes over stock. You can OC to 1.6 safely but I'm not sure of the power usage difference but I'm pretty sure the loss in power isn't worth the gain from OCing.

I have mine at 1.6 just for the hell of it, I get a good 4 or 5 hours of continuous usage out of it.

For the benefit of the community, can you tell us any major changes at 1.6 GHz?
Is there anything noticeably faster?
Hi, I have a related question but can't post since I'm new.
Using the glazed rom which i like but it apparently has gpu overclock. I would like to know how to adjust that back to stock setting or at least see what it currently is. I found the CPU section but there is no gpu I can see.
Is there a tool I can use?
Sorry for the hijack...at least its sort of on topic
IMO over clocking is a gimmick, its the kernel build

My thoughts exactly. I play some light games and web browse on my Nexus 7.
For those purposes, my Nexus 7 is already extremely fast, so I don't think I would be able to notice if it was over clocked.
But I guess it depends, maybe there's a big difference when running GPU heavy games.
I have OC mine upto 1640 MHz for bench marking alone for half and hour or probably more and it went fine although the tablet was getting warmer more than usual.

Hi,
I decided to flash trinity kernel.
I am currently OC to 1.5yghz, is that a safe level to keep it at full time? Or can that burn the cpu out?
Thanks again
Cheers
Corey
Edit,
I over clocked my galaxy s2 ages ago, and I noticed a huge difference in performance.
So that is why I want to over clock my n7 too lol

there is no such thing as a safe overclock. overclocking, by nature, carries some risk. that said, i havent seen anyone brick their device from overclocking.

Just wondering
Why do you feel the need to OC?
I go to 1.6 but use the Trinity App to go back to stock when OC not needed
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I have not over clocked the Nexus 7 yet but one way to test your devices max is to use setcpu. Make sure you do not have "set on boot" option selected. Then step up your cpu. If your cpu can not handle the over clock it will force restart. If you do not have the set at boot selected it will revert back to the last good state on restart.
Each device is different on what it can handle for over clock.

To be honest I doubt you'll notice much increase from oc the CPU since the CPU already is so powerful nothing pushes it to max really.
Only thing worth overclocking is GPU really. And at that, your not going to notice a difference unless your playing some intense games.

New malaysia 4.1.2 firmware having great battery performance.

Hi, im stay at malaysia, recently sammobile confirmed that the latest 4.1.2 firmware update having more faster battery drain than previous (4.1.1).
But im really wonder why i got opposite feedback from 2 malaysia user regarding the lastest 4.1.2 ugrade.
Both of my friends just a normal smartphone user. They dont know about rooting and custom rom. They completely using everthing stock as provided by samsung.
They both told me and showed me that their on screen time able to last 7 hours ++ with 3g data fulltime on. Whole circle of battery usage able to last longer about 26 hours.
But for your information they both not the type of heavy gamer. They both just will keep browsing, facebook and social chatting.
From their feedback, the lastest ugrade having better battery performance than 4.1.2.
Im not asking a question here, but just for sharing. Since myself never officially ugrade thru kies or ota.
Im wonder samsung has did some minor tweak on malaysia latest 4.1.2 firmware.
Maybe some of the n7100 developer might gonna use that build as a based to build custom rom.
Thank you.

I'm running a custom ROM based on XXDLL7 on my SGH-I317M (Canadian Note II) and the battery life is just as good, if not slightly better than it was before. I did a full wipe after flashing, so perhaps old data from 4.1.1 is what is causing some people to have issues.

You are right, im always suggest my friend perform factory reset after ugraded from ota or kies.
But this case a bit different. They never perform factory reset after ugraded. But still having experienced that battery performance much more better than 4.1.1.

This is True, most People getting 10hrs screen time with 3days on are not using 3g data and no sync and so on, everything is depending on how you use your Phone even when you don't use it.

Hmm...about the factory reset after ugraded, i think this is very subjective. Since samsung never advice their user need to perform this.
But for myself, i will perform and download again all the previous app to make sure everything running properly without any fc.

I totally agree with you. I f you are not using the functions of 'SMARTPHONE' what is the use of your phone? Is it just to show how much battery you conserved? Can anybody show 6 Hrs. of internet and 8 hours of videos in this so called battery life of 3 'days'?
I just cannot understand why people are running so much after battery life?
If you use you lose that is the law!
It can be understandable if without using anything one is losing the battery then it certainly is an issue.
IMHO those who conserve battery do not enjoy their phones at all!!!
That's true, that's why the new fw is such a pain in the ass with its poor battery!

Thanks for all posted comment. All solid opinion and experienced.
Actually im just wanna to sharing that, it was proof that ( from samobile.com) the latest 4.1.2 having poor battery performance if compare to 4.1.1. But in another way, my both friends also proof to me that they having significant improvement of battery performance from the latest 4.1.2 malaysia firmware. ( im personally checked their battery status and they are not lie to me).
We should put aside the battery performance for certain rom, kernel, personal setting and personal usage.
Since they having the same setting and same installed app as previous after ugraded to 4.1.2. And they also using the phone like usual or before upgraded.
So from my point of view, im just wanna find out isnt it the latest 4.1.2 malaysia firmware might having some different tweak from samsung than other 4.1.2 build such as LL7?

This is kinda a good news though.
For this time I can't upgrade my SGN2 firmware either via Kies or OTA.
I don't know what's wrong but I figure out something later.
I'm using my SGN2 on Stock Rom and for me SGN2 Stock Rom (4.1.1) is quite good.
Usage :
Full Charge - 0830
Mobile Data On - 1000
Activity - 1100 ~ 2200 - Viewing Facebook, texting a bit in Whatsapp, web browsing
On call - 2200 ~ 0000
Phone Standby - 0000 ~ 0730
And I still have another 6% of battery.
Can't wait to update the firmware.

Exactly. Everything is an anecdote unless the battery life was tested via an app like Battery Monitor Widget before and after the update for at least several days to register the consumption per hour in both standby and regular use.
Anything else, especially screen time, is purely subjective.
anyone facing after upgrade, phone will auto restart or shut down by itself?

Battery consumption is not my main concern. Most important for me is that I use and abused my note2 to my heart's content and enjoy using it. I'm happy that my battery can last for a day. I charge my N2 when I'm in the car, office and at home. This has been going on since I bought it last October'12. I have not notice any difference at all in battery consumption in all updates right from the stock 4.1.1 rom that came with it.

That is outstanding. But how in the world is it possible that you have a "screen on" state without being awake?
I have been fighting battery issues for so long now, I'd really like to get to something as good as what you get...
i get 5 hours on heavy use until i hit 10 % well my setup is in my signature on light use i am sure i can stretch it to 6 hours with brightness on auto and wifi is on most of the time
battery life is never going to be better for me unless i uv. the previous setup, i used cm 10.1.2 stable with matr1x kernel. i uv and set the max cpu to 1350. it was really really good. i can use the phone from 8am to 9pm.
now currently using aosp 4.3, the default setup battery life has improved a bit compared to 4.2.2 stock, but after semaphore kernel installed and uv a bit, even with max cpu at default which is 1.5ghz, battery life has been really great.

Just out of curiosity, are in you the US/North America?
I had the same issue of losing tons of battery to the OS overnight. I reflashed to an older version of the modem. Most of the people I have seen so far with these symptoms have been in France and India. Must be something about the cell services and how they interact with the phone.
@Calebz: I'm in Ireland.
I've restarted the phone since and the battery usage is back to normal, will see for how long.

Battery life N2 vs N3

I was the owner of Note2 before. And now Note3.
Is it just me or anyone of you agree that the batt drain faster than Note2.
I test it with stock unrooted, no additional program installed, same 4.3 stock Sammy.
The N2 is using 4.3 leak but the batt can last for 1.5day with moderate usage.
But N3 can barely sustain a half day for light usage.
Both WiFi on, both no apps installed, no root.
Anyone notice similar?
It has been reported that the gnote2 has better battery life. Still rocking mine.

Now rooted and also underclocking to 1.5Ghz max.... Still batt is crazy....
Also if BBM is active, its hogging up resource....
What's your model number?
